8 And after twenty years, once Solomon had built the House of the LORD and his own house,
2 then Solomon built the cities that Huram gave to Solomon and had the children of Israel live there.
3 And Solomon went to Hamath Zobah and overcame it.
4 And he built Tadmor in the wilderness, and repaired all the storage cities which he built in Hamath.
5 And he built Beth Horon the upper, and Beth Horon the lower, cities defensed with walls, gates and bars,
6 also Baalath and all the storage cities that Solomon had, and all the chariot cities, and the cities of the horsemen, and every pleasant place that Solomon had a mind to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and throughout all the land of his dominion.
7 All the people who were left to the Hittites and the Amorites and Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites—who were not of Israel
8 but of their children who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel had not consumed—those Solomon made tributaries until this day.
9 But Solomon made no children of Israel servants for his work. For they were men of war, and his chief princes, and the captains of his chariots and of his horsemen.
10 So, these were the chief of the officers whom Solomon had, two hundred fifty who bore rule over the people.
11 Then, Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David, into the house that he had built for her. For he said, “My wife shall not dwell in the house of David, king of Israel. For it is holy, because the Ark of the LORD came to it.”
12 Then Solomon offered Burnt Offerings to the LORD on the Altar of the LORD which he had built in front of the porch,
13 to offer according to the commandment of Moses every day, on the Sabbaths, and at the new moons, and at the solemn Feasts, three times in the year: at the Feast of the Unleavened Bread, and at the Feast of the Weeks, and at the Feast of the Tabernacles.
14 And he set the divisions of the priests to their offices, according to the order of David his father and the Levites in their watches, to praise and minister before the priests every day and the gatekeepers by their divisions, at every gate. For so was the commandment of David, the man of God.
15 And they did not decline from the commandment of the king concerning the priests and the Levites, touching all things and touching the treasures.
16 Now, Solomon had made provision for all the work, from the day of the foundation of the House of the LORD until it was finished. The House of the LORD was perfect.
17 Then Solomon went to Ezion Geber and to Eloth by the Seaside, in the land of Edom.
18 And by the hands of his servants, Huram sent him ships and servants who had knowledge of the sea. And they went with the servants of Solomon to Ophir and brought four hundred fifty talents of gold from there, and brought them to King Solomon.
1 The elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth:
2 Beloved, I wish chiefly that you prosper and fare well as your soul prospers.
3 For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified of the truth that is in you; how you walk in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than these: to hear that my sons walk in truth.
5 Beloved, you faithfully do whatever you do for the brother and for strangers;
6 who bore witness of your love before the churches. If you bring them on their journey in a manner worthy of God, you shall do well.
7 Because, they went forth for His Name’s sake and took nothing from the Gentiles.
8 Therefore, we ought to receive such, so that we might be helpers to the Truth.
9 I wrote to the church. But Diotrephes (who loves to have the pre-eminence among them) will not receive us.
10 Therefore, if I come, I will remind you of his deeds which he does - prattling against us with malicious words - and not content with this, he not only does not receive the brothers himself, but forbids those who would and thrusts them out of the church.
11 Beloved, do not follow that which is evil, but that which is good. The one who does well is of God. But the one who does evil has not seen God.
12 Demetrius has good report of all, and of the truth itself. Indeed, and we ourselves bear witness. And you know that our witness is true.
13 I have many things to write. But I will not write to you with ink and pen.
14 For I trust I shall shortly see you. And we shall speak mouth to mouth. Peace be with you. The friends salute you. Greet your friends by name.
3 A prayer of Habakkuk the Prophet, for Shiggaion:
2 O LORD, I have heard Your voice, and was afraid! O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the people! In the midst of the years make it known! In wrath remember mercy!
3 God comes from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His Glory covers the heavens. And the Earth is full of His praise.
4 And His brightness was as the light. He had horns coming out of His Hands. His power was hidden there.
5 Before Him went the pestilence. And burning coals went forth before His feet.
6 He stood and measured the Earth. He beheld and dissolved the nations. And the everlasting mountains were broken, the ancient hills bowed. His ways are everlasting!
7 I saw the tents of Cushan in iniquity. The curtains of the land of Midian trembled!
8 Was the LORD displeased with the rivers? Or was Your anger against the rivers? Or was Your wrath against the sea, so that You rode upon Your horses? Your chariots brought salvation.
9 Your bow was manifestly revealed. The oaths of the tribes were a sure Word. Selah. You split the earth with rivers.
10 The mountains saw You, and they trembled! The stream of water passed. The deep made a noise and lifted up its hand on high.
11 The Sun and Moon stood still in their habitation. At the light of Your arrows they went, at the bright shining of Your spears.
12 You tread down the land in anger, threshed the heathen in displeasure.
13 You went forth for the salvation of Your people, for salvation with Your Anointed. You have wounded the head of the House of the wicked, and uncovered it, foundation to neck. Selah.
14 You struck through the heads of its villages with its own staffs: They came out as a whirlwind to scatter me. Their rejoicing was like devouring the poor secretly.
15 You walked in the sea with Your horses, upon the heap of great waters.
16 When I heard, my belly trembled. My lips shook at the voice. Rottenness entered into my bones. And I trembled in myself, so that I might rest in the time of trouble. When He comes up to the people, He shall destroy them.
17 For the fig tree shall not flourish, nor fruit in the vines. The labor of the olive shall fail. And the fields shall yield no food. The sheep shall be cut off from the fold. And there shall be no herd in the stalls.
18 But I will rejoice in the LORD! I will joy in the God of my salvation!
19 The LORD God is my strength. He will make my feet like a deer’s feet. And He will make me walk upon my high places. To the chief singer on Neginoth.
22 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near (which is called the Passover).
2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill Him. For they feared the people.
3 Then Satan entered into Judas (who was called Iscariot and was among the number of the twelve).
4 And he went his way and discussed with the chief priests and captains how he might betray Him to them.
5 So they were glad and agreed to give him money.
6 And he consented and sought opportunity to betray Him to them when the people were away.
7 Then the Day of Unleavened Bread came (when the Passover must be sacrificed).
8 And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.”
9 And they said to Him, “Where would You have us prepare it?”
10 Then He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered into the city, a man bearing a pitcher of water shall meet you. Follow him into the house where he enters.
11 “And say to the good man of the house, ‘The Master says to you, “Where is the lodging where I shall eat My Passover with My disciples?”’
12 “Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room. Make it ready there.”
13 So they went and found as He had said to them. And they made ready the Passover.
14 And when the hour had come, He sat down (and the twelve Apostles with Him).
15 Then He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
16 “For I say to you that I will not eat of it again until it is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.”
17 And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this, and divide it among you.”
18 For I say to you that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the Kingdom of God comes.”
19 And He took bread. And when He had given thanks, He broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in the remembrance of Me.”
20 Likewise, after supper, He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the New Testament in My blood, which is shed for you.
21 “Still, the hand of him who betrays Me is with Me at the table.
22 “And truly the Son of Man goes as it is appointed. But woe to that man by whom He is betrayed.”
23 Then they began to inquire among themselves about which one it could be who would do that.
24 And there also arose among them a dispute about which one was thought to be the greatest.
25 But He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles reign over them. And those who bear rule over them are called benefactors.
26 “But you shall not be so. But let the greatest among you be as the least; and the chief as he who serves.
27 “For who is greater, the one who sits at table, or the one who serves? Is not the one who sits at table? And I am among you as one who serves.
28 “And you are those who have continued with Me in My trials.
29 “Therefore, I appoint to you a Kingdom, as my Father has appointed to Me,
30 “So that you may eat and drink at My table, in My Kingdom; and sit on seats and judge the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 And the Lord said, “Simon. Simon, behold! Satan has asked for you, to sift you as wheat.
32 “But I have prayed for you, that your faith does not fail. Therefore, when you have repented, strengthen your brothers.”
33 And he said to Him. “Lord, I am ready to go with You into prison, and to death!”
34 But He said, “I tell you, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before you have thrice denied that you knew Me.”
35 And He said to them, “When I sent you without bag and purse and shoes, did you lack anything?” And they said, “Nothing.”
36 Then He said to them, “But now he who has a bag, let him take it, and likewise a purse. And he who has none, let him sell his coat, and buy a sword.
37 “For I say to you that the same which is written must still be performed in Me: ‘He was numbered with the wicked.’ For doubtless those things which are written of Me have an end.”
38 And they said, “Lord, behold, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”
39 And He came out and went to the mount of Olives (as was His custom). And His disciples also followed Him.
40 And when He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray, lest you enter into trial.”
41 And He was drawn aside from them (about a stone’s cast) and kneeled down and prayed,
42 saying, “Father. If You will, take away this cup from Me. Nevertheless, not My will. But Yours be done.”
43 And an angel from Heaven appeared to Him, to comfort Him.
44 But being in an agony, He prayed more earnestly. And His sweat was like drops of blood, trickling down to the ground.
45 And He rose up from prayer, and came to His disciples, and found them asleep from sorrow.
46 And He said to them, “Why do you sleep?! Rise and pray, lest you enter into trial.”
47 And while He was still speaking, a crowd appeared. And he who was called Judas (one of the twelve) went before them and came near to Jesus to kiss Him.
48 And Jesus said to him, “Judas, you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 Now, when those who were around Him saw what would follow, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”
50 And one of them struck a servant of the High Priest; and struck off his right ear.
51 Then Jesus answered, and said, “Enough!” And He touched his ear and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, and captains of the Temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out as for a thief, with swords and clubs?
53 “When I was with you daily in the Temple, you did not stretch forth hands against Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness!”
54 Then they took Him, and led Him, and brought Him to the High Priest’s house. And Peter followed at a distance.
55 And when they had kindled a fire in the courtyard, and had sat down together, Peter also sat down among them.
56 And a certain maid saw him as he sat by the fire and, having looked at him intently, said, “This man was also with Him!”
57 But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him!”
58 And after a little while, another saw him, and said, “You are also one of them!” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”
59 And about an hour after that, another affirmed, saying, “Truly, this man was also with Him! For he is also a Galilean!”
60 And Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about!” And immediately while he was still speaking, the cock crew.
61 Then the Lord turned back and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the Word of the Lord; how He had said to him, “Before the cock crows, you shall deny Me three times.”
62 And Peter went out and wept bitterly.
63 And the men who held Jesus mocked Him and struck Him.
64 And when they had blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face, and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy who it is that struck You!”
65 And they blasphemously spoke many other things against Him.
66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led Him into their council,
67 saying, “Are You the Christ? Tell us!” And He said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe it.
68 “And also, if I ask you, you will not answer Me, nor let Me go.
69 “From now on, the Son of Man shall sit at the right hand of the power of God.
70 Then they all said, “Are You, then, the Son of God?!” And He said to them, “You say that I am.”
71 Then they said, “What need do we have of any further witness? For we ourselves have heard it from His own mouth!”
