M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
18 After many days, the Word of the LORD came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, “Go, show yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain upon the Earth.”
2 And Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. and a great famine was in Samaria.
3 And Ahab called Obadiah, the governor of his House. And Obadiah feared God greatly.
4 For when Jezebel destroyed the Prophets of the LORD, Obadiah took a hundred Prophets and hid them in a cave, by fifties. And he fed them with bread and water.
5 And Ahab said to Obadiah, “Go into the land, to all the fountains of water, and to all the rivers, if so be that we may find grass to save the horses and the mules alive, lest we deprive the land of the beasts.”
6 And so, they divided the land between them, to walk through it. Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
7 And as Obadiah was on the road, behold, Elijah met him. And he knew him and fell on his face, and said, “Are not you my lord, Elijah?”
8 And he answered him, “Yes. Go tell your lord, ‘Behold, Elijah.’”
9 And he said, “What have I sinned, that you would deliver your servant into the hand of Ahab, to kill me?
10 “As the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you. And when they said, ‘He is not here,’ he took an oath of the kingdom or nation that they had not found you.
11 “And now you say, ‘Go, tell your lord, “Behold, Elijah.”’
12 “And when I have gone from you, the Spirit of the LORD shall carry you into some place that I do not know. So, when I come and tell Ahab, if he cannot find you, then he will kill me! But I, your servant, fear the LORD from my youth.
13 “Was it not told to my lord what I did when Jezebel killed the Prophets of the LORD? How I hid a hundred men of the LORD’s Prophets by fifties in a cave and fed them with bread and water?
14 “And now you say, ‘Go, tell your lord, “Behold, Elijah,”’ so that he may kill me.’
15 And Elijah said, “As the LORD of Hosts lives, before Whom I stand, I will surely show myself to him this day.”
16 So, Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him. And Ahab went to meet Elijah.
17 And when Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, “Are you he who troubles Israel?”
18 And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but rather you and your father’s House, in that you have forsaken the Commandments of the LORD, and you have followed Baal.
19 “Now, therefore, send and gather to me all Israel to Mount Carmel, and the four hundred fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of the groves who eat at Jezebel’s table.”
20 So, Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together to Mount Carmel.
21 And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him. But if Baal is, then go after him.” And the people did not answer him a word.
22 Then Elijah said to the people, “I only remain as a Prophet of the LORD! But Baal’s prophets are four hundred fifty men!
23 “Let them, therefore, give us two bulls! And let them choose one, and cut him in pieces, and lay him on the wood! But put no fire! And I will prepare the other bull, and lay him on the wood, and will put no fire!
24 “Then you call on the name of your god! And I will call on the Name of the LORD! And then the God Who answers by fire, let him be God!” And all the people answered, and said, “It is well spoken!”
25 And Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose a bull for yourselves, and prepare him first (for you are many) and call on the name of your gods. But put no fire.”
26 So, they took the one bull that was given to them. And they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning to noon, saying, “O Baal! Hear us!” But there was no voice, nor anyone to answer. And they leapt upon the altar that was made.
27 And at noon, Elijah mocked them, and said, “Cry aloud. For he is a god. Either he talks or pursues or is on a journey. Or it may be that he sleeps, and must be awakened?”
28 And they cried loudly and cut themselves (as their manner was) with knives and lancers, until the blood gushed out upon them.
29 And when midday had passed, and they had prophesied until the offering of the sacrifice, there was neither voice nor one to answer nor any who paid attention.
30 And Elijah said to all the people, “Come to me!” And all the people came to him. And he repaired the Altar of the LORD that had broken down.
31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob (to whom the Word of the LORD came, saying, “Israel shall be your name”).
32 And with the stones he built an Altar in the Name of the LORD. And he made a ditch all around the Altar, as great as could contain two seahs of seed.
33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bull in pieces, and laid him on the wood,
34 and said, “Fill four barrels with water and pour it upon the Burnt Offering and on the wood.” Again, he said, “Do so again.” And they did so a second time. And he said, “Do it a third time.” And they did it a third time.
35 And the water ran all around the Altar. And he filled the ditch with water also.
36 And when they were to offer the sacrifice, Elijah the Prophet came and said, “LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel! Let it be known this day, that You are the God of Israel, and that I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your Commandment!
37 “Hear me, O LORD, hear me! And let this people know that You are the LORD God! And that You have turned their hearts back again!”
38 Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the Burnt Offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the ditch.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces, and said, “The LORD is God! The LORD is God!”
40 And Elijah said to them, “Take the prophets of Baal! Do not let a man of them escape!” And they took them. And Elijah brought them to the brook Kishon and killed them there.
41 And Elijah said to Ahab, “Get up. Eat and drink. For there is a sound of much rain.”
42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel. And he crouched to the earth, and put his face between his knees,
43 and said to his servant, “Go up, now, and look toward the way of the sea.” And he went up and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” Again, he said, “Go back seven times.”
44 And on the seventh time, he said, “Behold, there arises a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand.” Then he said, “Up! And say to Ahab, ‘Make ready. And get yourself down, so that the rain does not stop you.’”
45 And in the meantime, the sky was black with clouds and wind. And there was a heavy rain. Then Ahab went up and came to Jezreel.
46 And the Hand of the LORD was on Elijah. And he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab until he came to Jezreel.
1 Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, To the Church of the Thessalonians, which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be with you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 We always give God thanks for you all, making mention of you in our prayers,
3 unceasingly remembering your work of faith and diligent love and the patience of your hope in our Lord Jesus Christ (in the sight of God our Father),
4 knowing - beloved brothers - that you are the Elect of God.
5 For our Gospel did not come to you in word only, but in power also and in the Holy Ghost and much certainty (as you know how we behaved among you for your sakes).
6 And you became followers of us and of the Lord and received the Word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost,
7 so that you were examples to all believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.
8 For the Word of the Lord has resounded from you - not only in Macedonia and in Achaia - but in all quarters. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we need not say anything.
9 For they themselves tell of how we approached you and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
10 and to look for His Son from Heaven - Whom He raised from the dead – Who is Jesus; Who delivers us from the wrath to come.
48 “Now these are the names of the tribes: From the North Side to the coast, toward Hethlon, as one goes to Hamath, Hazar, Enan, and the border of Damascus northward to the coast of Hamath, from the east side to the west shall be a portion for Dan.
2 “And by the border of Dan, from the East Side to the West Side, shall be a portion for Asher,
3 “And by the border of Asher, from the east part to the west part, shall be a portion for Naphtali,
4 “And by the border of Naphtali, from the East Quarter to the West Side, shall be a portion for Manasseh.
5 “And by the border of Manasseh, from the East Side to the West Side, shall be a portion for Ephraim.
6 “And by the border of Ephraim, from the east part to the west part, shall be a portion for Reuben.
7 “And by the border of Reuben, from the East Quarter to the West Quarter, shall be a portion for Judah.
8 “And by the border of Judah, from the east part to the west part, shall be the offering which they shall offer, of twenty-five thousand reeds wide, and of the same length as one of the parts, from the East Side to the West Side. And the Sanctuary shall be in the midst of it.
9 “The oblation that you shall offer to the LORD shall be twenty-five thousand long and ten thousand wide.
10 “And this holy oblation for them, for the priests, shall be twenty-five thousand long toward the North and ten thousand wide toward the West and ten thousand wide toward the East and twenty-five thousand long toward the South. And the Sanctuary of the LORD shall be in its midst,
11 for the Priests of the sons of Zadok who are sanctified, who have kept My charge, who did not go astray as the Levites went astray when the children of Israel went astray.
12 “Therefore, this oblation of the land that is offered shall be theirs, as a thing Most Holy, by the border of the Levites.
13 “And alongside the border of the Priests, the Levites shall have twenty-five thousand long and ten thousand wide. The whole length shall be twenty-five thousand, and the width ten thousand.
14 “And they shall not sell any of it, or change it, or alienate the firstfruits of the land; for it is holy to the LORD.
15 “And the five thousand that is left in the width, opposite the twenty-five thousand, shall be a profane place for the city, for housing, and for suburbs. And the city shall be in its midst.
16 “And these shall be its measures: the north part five hundred four thousand and the south part five hundred four thousand and the east part five hundred four thousand and the west part five hundred four thousand.
17 “And the suburbs of the city shall be two hundred fifty toward the North and two hundred fifty toward the South and two hundred fifty toward the East and two hundred fifty toward the West.
18 “And the rest in length opposite the oblation of the holy portion shall be ten thousand eastward and ten thousand westward. And it shall be opposite the oblation of the holy portion. And its increase shall be for food to those who serve in the city.
19 “And those who serve in the city shall be from all the tribes of Israel who shall serve it.
20 “The whole oblation shall be twenty-five thousand and twenty-five thousand. You shall offer this oblation foursquare for the Sanctuary and for the possession of the city.
21 “And the rest shall be for the princes on one side and on the other of the oblation of the Sanctuary and of the possession of the city, next to the twenty-five thousand of the oblation toward the east border. And westward, next to the twenty-five thousand toward the west border, next to the portion of the prince, shall be the holy oblation. And the House of the Sanctuary shall be in its midst.
22 “Moreover, from the possession of the Levites and from the possession of the city, that which is in the midst shall be the prince’s. Between the border of Judah and between the border of Benjamin shall be the prince’s.
23 “And the rest of the tribes shall be thus: from the east part to the west part, Benjamin shall be a portion.
24 “And by the border of Benjamin, from the East Side to the West Side, Simeon shall be a portion.
25 “And by the border of Simeon, from the east part to the west part, Issachar shall be a portion.
26 “And by the border of Issachar, from the East Side to the West, Zebulun shall be a portion
27 And by the border of Zebulun, from the east part to the west part, Gad shall be a portion.
28 “And by the border of Gad, on the South Side, toward Temath, the border shall be from Tamar to the waters of Meribah in Kadesh and to the river that runs into the main sea.
29 “This is the land which you shall distribute to the tribes of Israel for an inheritance. And these are their portions,” says the Lord GOD.
30 “And these are the boundaries of the city: five hundred four thousand measures on the North Side.
31 “And the gates of the city shall be named after the names of the tribes of Israel: The North Gates — one gate of Reuben, one gate of Judah, one gate of Levi.
32 “And at the East Side shall be five hundred four thousand, with three gates — one gate of Joseph, one gate of Benjamin, one gate of Dan.
33 “And at the South Side shall be five hundred four thousand measures, and three ports — one gate of Simeon, one gate of Issachar, one gate of Zebulun.
34 “On the West Side shall be five hundred four thousand, with their three gates — one gate of Gad, one gate of Asher, one gate of Naphtali.
35 “All around shall be eighteen thousand. And the name of the city from that day shall be: THE LORD IS THERE.”
104 Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD, my God, You are exceedingly great. You are clothed with Glory and honor.
2 The One Who covers Himself with light, as with a garment, and spread the heavens like a curtain.
3 The One Who lays the beams of His chambers in the waters, and makes the clouds His chariot, and walks upon the wings of the wind.
4 The One Who makes the spirits His messengers, and a flaming fire His ministers.
5 The One Who sets the Earth upon her foundations, so that it shall never move.
6 You cover it with the deep, as with a garment. The waters stood above the mountains.
7 At Your rebuke they flee; at the voice of Your thunder they hurry away.
8 The mountains ascend. The valleys descend to the place which You have established for them.
9 You have set them a boundary which they shall not pass. They shall not return to cover the Earth.
10 He sends the springs into the valleys, which run between the mountains.
11 They shall give drink to all the beasts of the field, and the wild asses shall quench their thirst.
12 By these springs shall the birds of the heaven dwell and sing among the branches.
13 He waters the mountains from His chambers. The Earth is filled with the fruit of Your works.
14 He causes grass to grow for the cattle and herbs for the use of man; so that he may bring forth bread out of the Earth
15 and wine that makes the heart of man glad and oil to make his face shine and bread that strengthens man’s heart.
16 The high trees are satisfied, the cedars of Lebanon which He has planted,
17 so that the birds may make their nests there. The stork dwells in the fir trees.
18 The high mountains are for the goats. The rocks are a refuge for the rock badgers.
19 He appointed the Moon for certain seasons; the Sun knows its going down.
20 You make darkness, and it is night, wherein all the beasts of the forest creep forth.
21 The lions roar after their prey and seek their food from God.
22 When the Sun rises, they retire and lie down in their dens.
23 Then man goes forth to his work, and to his labor, until the evening.
24 O LORD, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom, You have made them all. The Earth is full of Your riches!
25 So great and wide is the sea; in which are innumerable creeping things, both small beasts and great.
26 Thereupon go the ships, and therein plays that Leviathan, whom You have made.
27 All these wait upon You, so that You may give them food in due season.
28 You give it to them, and they gather it. You open Your hand, and they are filled with good things.
29 If You hide Your face, they are troubled. If You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.
30 You send forth Your spirit, and they are created; You renew the face of the Earth.
31 Glory be to the LORD forever. Let the LORD rejoice in His works!
32 He looks on the Earth and it trembles. He touches the mountains and they smoke.
33 I will sing to the LORD all my life. I will praise my God while I live.
34 Let my words be acceptable to Him. I will rejoice in the LORD.
35 Let the sinners be consumed out of the Earth, and the wicked, until there are no more. Bless the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD!
