1 Kings 9

When Solomon had finished building the House of the LORD, and the king’s palace, and all of Solomon desires which it pleased him to do,

then the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, as He appeared to him at Gibeon.

And the LORD said to him: “I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you have made before Me. I have sanctified this House which you have built to put My Name there forever. And My Eyes and My Heart shall be there perpetually.

“And if you will walk before Me, as David your father walked in pureness of heart and in righteousness, to do according to all that I have Commanded you, and keep My Statutes and My Judgments,

“then will I establish the throne of your kingdom upon Israel forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man upon the throne of Israel.’

“If you and your children turn away from Me, and will not keep My Commandments, My Statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,

“then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them. And I will cast the House which I have sanctified for My Name out of My sight. And Israel shall be a proverb and a common talk among all people.

“Even this high House shall be so. Everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss, and they shall say, ‘Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this House?’

“And they shall answer, ‘Because they forsook the LORD their God, Who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them. Therefore, the LORD has brought all this misery upon them.’”

10 And at the end of twenty years, after Solomon had built the two houses (the House of the LORD and the king’s palace,

11 for which Hiram the king of Tyre had brought timber from cedar and fir trees to Solomon, and gold, and whatever he desired), then King Solomon gave twenty cities in the land of Galilee to Hiram.

12 And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him. And they did not please him.

13 Therefore he said, “What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?” And he called them the land of Cabul to this day.

14 And Hiram had sent the king one hundred twenty talents of gold.

15 And this is the reason for the tribute (why King Solomon raised tribute): to build the House of the LORD, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

16 Pharaoh, king of Egypt, had come up and taken Gezer and burnt it with fire and killed the Canaanites who dwelt in the city and gave it for a present to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

17 Therefore, Solomon built Gezer and Beth Horon the lower,

18 and Baalath and Tadmor, in the wilderness of the land,

19 and all the cities of store that Solomon had (cities for chariots and cities for horsemen and all that Solomon desired and would build in Jerusalem and in Lebanon and in all the land of his dominion).

20 All the people who were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel

21 (their children who were left after them in the land whom the children of Israel were not able to destroy), those Solomon made tributaries to this day.

22 But of the children of Israel Solomon made no bondmen. But they were men of war and his servants and his princes and his captains and rulers of his chariots and his horsemen.

23 These were the princes of the officers who were over Solomon’s work: five hundred fifty. And they ruled the people who labored in the work.

24 And Pharaoh’s daughter came up from the City of David to the house which Solomon had built for her. Then he built Millo.

25 And three times a year Solomon offered Burnt Offerings and Peace Offerings upon the Altar which he built to the LORD. And he burnt incense upon the Altar that was before the LORD, when he had finished the House.

26 Also, King Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion Geber, which is beside Elath and the edge of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

27 And Hiram sent his servants (who were mariners and had knowledge of the sea) with the navy, with the servants of Solomon.

28 And they came to Ophir and fetched four hundred twenty talents of gold from there and brought it to King Solomon.

Ephesians 6

Children, obey your parents in the Lord. For this is right.

Honor your father and mother (which is the first Commandment with a promise),

so that it may be well with you and that you may live long on Earth.

And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger. But bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

Servants, be obedient to your masters, according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in simplicity of heart, as unto Christ;

not with service to the eye (as man-pleasers) but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart

with good will, serving the Lord and not man.

And know that whatever good thing anyone does, that same shall he receive from the Lord, whether slave or free.

And masters, do the same things to them, giving up threatening and knowing that your master also is in Heaven. And there is no partiality with Him.

10 Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceit of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the kings, against the authorities, and against the rulers of the darkness of this world; against the spiritual forces of iniquity which are in the high place.

13 For this reason take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on the evil day. And having finished all things, stand fast.

14 Stand therefore, having wrapped your waist with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

15 and your feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace.

16 Above all, take the shield of Faith, with which you may quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

18 And pray always, with all manner of prayer and supplication, in the Spirit. And watch for this very thing - with all perseverance and supplication - for all Saints

19 and for me; that a Word may be given to me, so that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the secret of the Gospel,

20 for which I am an ambassador in a chain. So that therein I may speak boldly as I ought to speak.

21 And so that you may also know my affairs (and what I do) Tychicus, my dear brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things.

22 I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you might know my affairs and that he might comfort your hearts.

23 Peace to the brothers and love with faith, from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ incorruptibly. Amen.

(written from Rome to the Ephesians and sent by Tychicus.)

Ezekiel 39

39 “Therefore, you son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I come against you, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.

“And I will destroy you and leave but a sixth of you and will cause you to come up from the northern parts and will bring you upon the mountains of Israel.

“And I will strike your bow from out of your left hand; and I will cause your arrows to fall out of your right hand.

“You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, and all your bands, and the people who are with you. I will give you to the birds, to every feathered fowl and beast of the field to be devoured.

“You shall fall upon the open field; for I have spoken it,” says the Lord GOD.

“And I will send a fire on Magog and among those who dwell safely in the isles. And they shall know that I am the LORD.

“So will I make My Holy Name known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not allow them to pollute My Holy Name anymore. And the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.

“Behold, it has come, and it is done,” says the Lord GOD, “and this is the day of which I have spoken.

“And those who dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth and shall burn and set fire to the weapons and on the shields and bucklers, upon the bows and upon the arrows and upon the rods in their hands and upon the spears. And they shall burn them with fire for seven years,

10 “so that they shall bring no wood out of the field or cut down any out of the forests. For they shall burn the weapons with fire; and they shall rob those who robbed them and plunder those who plundered them,” says the Lord GOD.

11 “And at the same time, I will give Gog a place there in Israel for burial: the valley by which men go toward the eastern part of the sea; and it shall cause those who pass by to hold their noses. And they shall bury Gog there with all his multitude. And they shall call it the Valley of Hamon Gog.

12 “And for seven months shall the House of Israel bury them, so that they may cleanse the land.

13 “Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them. And they shall have a name when I shall be glorified,” says the Lord GOD.

14 “And they shall choose men to go continually through the land with those who work to bury those who remain upon the ground, to cleanse it. They shall search until the end of seven months.

15 “And the travelers who pass through the land, if anyone sees a man’s bone, he shall then set up a sign by it until the buriers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon Gog.

16 “And, also, the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.

17 “And you, son of man,” thus says the Lord GOD: “speak to every feathered fowl, and to all the beasts of the field. Assemble yourselves and come. Gather yourselves on every side to My sacrifice. For I do sacrifice a great sacrifice for you upon the mountains of Israel, so that you may eat flesh and drink blood.

18 “You shall eat the flesh of the valiant and drink the blood of the princes of the Earth, of the weathers, of the lambs, of the goats, of bullocks, and of all fat beasts of Bashan.

19 “And you shall eat fat until you are full, and drink blood until you are drunk at My sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.

20 “Thus you shall be filled with horses and chariots at My table, with valiant men and with all men of war,” says the Lord GOD.

21 “And I will set My Glory among the heathen. And all the heathen shall see My judgment that I have executed, and My Hand which I have laid upon them.

22 “So the House of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day forward.

23 “And the heathen shall know that the House of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity, because they trespassed against Me. Therefore, I hid My Face from them and gave them into the hand of their enemies. So, they all fell by the sword.

24 “According to their uncleanness, and according to their transgressions, I have done to them, and hidden My Face from them.”’

25 “Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Now will I bring back the captives of Jacob, and have compassion upon the whole House of Israel, and will be jealous for My Holy Name,

26 ‘after they have borne their shame and all their transgression by which they have transgressed against Me, when they dwelt safely in their land and without fear of anyone.

27 ‘When I have brought them back from the people and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands and am sanctified in them, in the sight of many nations,

28 ‘then they shall know that I am the LORD their God, Who caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen. But I have gathered them to their own land and have left none of them there anymore.

29 ‘Nor will I hide My Face from them anymore. For I have poured out My Spirit upon the House of Israel,’ says the Lord GOD.”

Psalm 90

90 LORD, You have been our habitation from generation to generation.

Before the mountains were made (and You had formed the Earth and the world), even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

You turn man to contrition. Again, You say, “Return, you sons of Adam.”

For a thousand years in Your sight are as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

You have overflowed them. They are asleep. In the morning, they grow like the grass.

In the morning it flourishes and grows. In the evening, it is cut down and withers.

For we are consumed by Your anger; and by Your wrath are we troubled.

You have set our iniquities before You, and our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.

For all our days have passed away in Your anger. We have spent our years as a thought.

10 The time of our life is threescore years and ten (and if they be of strength, fourscore years). Yet, their strength is but labor and sorrow; for it is cut off quickly and we flee away.

11 Who knows the power of Your wrath? For according to Your fear is Your anger.

12 Teach us to number our days, so that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.

13 Return (O LORD, how long?) and be pacified toward Your servants.

14 Fill us with Your mercy in the morning. So shall we rejoice and be glad all our days!

15 Comfort us according to the days that You have afflicted us, according to the years that we have seen evil.

16 Let Your work be seen toward Your servants, and Your Glory upon their children.

17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us and direct the work of our hands upon us, even direct the work of our hands.
