M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
3 1 Solomon taketh Pharaoh’s daughter to wife. 5 The Lord appeareth to him, and giveth him wisdom. 17 The pleading of the two harlots, and Solomon’s sentence therein.
1 Solomon (A)then made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the [a]city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
2 Only the people sacrificed in the [b]high places, because there was no house built unto the Name of the Lord, until those days.
3 And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the ordinances of David his [c]father: only he sacrificed and offered incense in the high places.
4 And the King went to [d]Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the chief high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
5 In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
6 And Solomon said, Thou hast showed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, [e]when he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee: and thou hast [f]kept for him this great mercy, and hast given him a son, to sit on his throne, as appeareth this day.
7 And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a young child, and know not how to [g]go out and in.
8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people, which thou hast chosen, even a great people, which cannot be told nor numbered for multitude.
9 (B)Give therefore unto thy servant an [h]understanding heart, to judge thy people: that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy [i]mighty people?
10 And this pleased the Lord well, that Solomon had desired this thing.
11 And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life, neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine [j]enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment,
12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart, so that there hath been none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall arise the like unto thee.
13 And I have also (C)given thee that, which thou hast not asked, both riches and honor, so that among the Kings there [k]shall be none like unto thee all thy days.
14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep mine ordinances and my commandments, (D)as thy father David did walk, I will prolong thy days.
15 And when Solomon awoke, behold it was [l]a dream, and he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the Ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered burnt offerings, and made peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
16 ¶ Then came two [m]harlots unto the king, and [n]stood before him.
17 And the one woman said, Oh my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house, and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
18 And the third day after that I was delivered, this woman was delivered also, and we were in the house together: no stranger was with us in the house save we twain.
19 And this woman’s son died in the night: for she overlay him.
20 And she rose at midnight, and [o]took my son from my side, while thine handmaid slept, and laid him in her bosom, and laid her dead son in my bosom.
21 And when I arose in the morning to give my son suck, behold, he was dead: and when I had well considered him in the morning, behold, it was not my son, whom I had borne.
22 Then the other woman said, Nay, but my son liveth, and thy son is dead. Again she said, No, but thy son is dead, and mine alive: thus they spake before the king.
23 Then said the king, She saith, This that liveth is my son, and the dead is thy son: and the other saith, Nay, but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son.
24 Then the King said, [p]Bring me a sword: and they brought out a sword before the king.
25 And the king said, Divide ye the living child in twain, and give the one half to the one, and the other half to the other.
26 Then spake the woman, whose the living child was, unto the king, for her compassion was kindled toward her son, and she said, Oh my lord, give her the living child and [q]slay him not: but the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
27 Then the king answered, and said, Give her the living child, and slay him not: this is his mother.
28 And all Israel heard the judgment which the king had judged, and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
The Epistle of Paul to the Ephesians
1 1 After the salutation, 4 he entreateth of the free election of God, 5 and adoption. 7, 13 from whence man’s salvation floweth, as from the true and natural fountain: and because so high a mystery cannot be understood, 16 he prayeth that the full, 20 knowledge of Christ, may by God be reavealed unto the Ephesians.
1 Paul [a]an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the (A)Saints, which are at Ephesus, and to the [b]faithful in Christ Jesus:
2 Grace be with you, and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 (B)[c]Blessed be God, [d]and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, [e]which hath blessed us, with [f]all spiritual blessing in [g]heavenly things in [h]Christ,
4 [i]As he hath chosen us in [j]him, before the foundation of the world, [k]that we [l]should [m]be holy, and without blame [n]before him in love:
5 [o]Who hath predestinated us, to be adopted through Jesus Christ [p]in himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.
6 [q]To the [r]praise of the glory of his grace, [s]wherewith he hath made us freely accepted in his beloved.
7 [t]By whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins, according to his rich grace:
8 [u][v]Whereby he hath been abundant toward us in [w]all wisdom and understanding,
9 And hath opened unto us the [x]mystery of his will [y]according to his good pleasure, which he hath purposed in him,
10 [z]That in the dispensation of the fullness of the times, he might [aa]gather together in one all things, both which are in heaven, and which are in earth, even in Christ:
11 [ab]In whom also we are chosen when we were predestinated according to the purpose of him, which worketh [ac]all things after the counsel of his own will,
12 That we, which [ad]first trusted in Christ, should be unto the praise of his glory:
13 [ae]In whom also ye have trusted, after that ye heard the [af]word of truth, even the Gospel of your salvation, wherein also after that ye believed, ye were [ag]sealed with the holy [ah]Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance, for the [ai]redemption of that liberty purchased unto the praise of his glory.
15 [aj]Therefore also after that I heard of the faith, which ye have in the Lord Jesus, and love toward all the Saints,
16 I cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers,
17 [ak]That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, that Father of [al]glory, might give unto you the Spirit of wisdom, and revelation through the [am]knowledge of him,
18 That the eyes of your understanding may be lightened, that ye may know what the [an]hope is of his calling, and what the riches of his glorious inheritance is in the Saints,
19 [ao]And what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us, which believe, (C)according to the working of his mighty power,
20 [ap]Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his [aq]right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and domination, and every [ar]Name, that is named, not in this world only, but also in that that is to come,
22 [as]And hath made all things subject under his feet, and hath given him over all things to be the [at]head to the Church,
23 Which is his body, even the [au]fullness of him that filleth all in all things.
34 2 Against the shepherds that despised the flock of Christ, and seek their own reign. 7 The Lord saith that he will visit his dispersed flock, and gather them together. 23 He promiseth the true shepherd Christ, and with him peace.
1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God unto the shepherds, (A)Woe be unto the [a]shepherds of Israel, that feed themselves: should not the shepherds feed the flocks?
3 Ye eat the [b]fat, and ye clothe you with the wool: ye kill them that are fed, but ye feed not the sheep.
4 The [c]weak have ye not strengthened: the sick have ye not healed, neither have ye bound up the broken, nor brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost, but with cruelty, and with rigor have ye ruled them.
5 And they were scattered without a shepherd: and when they were dispersed, they were [d]devoured of all the beasts of the field.
6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered through all the earth, and none did seek or search after them.
7 Therefore ye shepherds, hear the word of the Lord.
8 As I live, saith the Lord God, surely because my flock was spoiled, and my sheep were devoured of all the beasts of the field, having no shepherd, neither did my shepherds seek my sheep, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my sheep,
9 Therefore, hear ye the word of the Lord, O ye shepherds.
10 Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I come against the shepherds, and will require my sheep at their hands, and cause them to cease from feeding the sheep: neither shall the shepherds feed themselves anymore: for I will deliver thy sheep from [e]their mouths, and they shall no more devour them.
11 For thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will search my sheep, and seek them out.
12 As a shepherd searcheth out his flock, when he hath been among his sheep that are scattered, so will I seek out my sheep and will deliver them out of all places, where they have been scattered in [f]the cloudy and dark day,
13 And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel, by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country.
14 I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel.
15 I will feed my sheep, and bring them to their rest, saith the Lord God.
16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen the weak, but I will destroy the fat and the [g]strong, and I will feed them with [h]judgment.
17 Also you my sheep, thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I judge between sheep and sheep, between the rams and the goats.
18 Seemeth it a small thing unto you to have eaten up the good [i]pasture, but ye must tread down with your feet, the residue of your pasture? and to have drunk of the deep waters, but ye must trouble the residue with your feet.
19 And my sheep eat that which ye have trodden with your feet, and drink that which ye have troubled with your feet.
20 Therefore thus saith the Lord God unto them, Behold, I, even I will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.
21 Because ye have thrust with side and with shoulder, and pushed all the weak with your horns, till ye have scattered them abroad,
22 Therefore will I help my sheep, and they shall no more be spoiled, and I will judge between sheep and sheep.
23 And I will set up a shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant [j]David, he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.
24 And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David shall be the Prince among them, I the Lord have spoken it.
25 And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land, and they shall [k]dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.
26 And I will set them, as a blessing, even round about my mountains, and I will cause rain to come down in due season: and there shall be rain of blessing.
27 And the [l]tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall give her fruit, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the Lord, when I have broken the cords of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hands of those that served themselves of them.
28 And they shall no more be spoiled of the heathen, neither shall the beasts of the land devour them, but they shall dwell safely, and none shall make them afraid.
29 And I will raise up for them a [m]plant of renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the reproach of the heathen anymore.
30 Thus shall they understand, that I the Lord their God am with them, and that they, even the house of Israel are my people, saith the Lord God.
31 And ye my sheep, the sheep of my pasture are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord God.
83 1 The people of Israel pray unto the Lord to deliver them from their enemies both at home and far off, which imagined nothing but their destruction. 9 And they desire that all such wicked people may according as God was accustomed, be stricken with the stormy tempest of God’s wrath, 18 That they may know that the Lord is most high upon the earth.
A song or Psalm committed to Asaph.
1 Keep [a]not thou silence, O God: be not still, and cease not, O God.
2 For lo, thine [b]enemies make a tumult, and they that hate thee, have lifted up the head.
3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and have consulted against thy [c]secret ones.
4 They have said, Come and let us [d]cut them off from being a nation: and let the name of Israel be no more in remembrance.
5 For they have consulted together in [e]heart, and have made a league [f]against thee:
6 The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagarites:
7 Gebal and Ammon, and Amalek, the Philistines, with the inhabitants of [g]Tyre.
8 Assyria also is joined with them: they have been an arm to the children [h]of Lot. Selah.
9 Do thou to them as unto the [i]Midianites: as to Sisera and as to Jabin at the river of Kishon.
10 They perished at En Dor, and were [j]dung for the earth.
11 Make them, even their princes, like (A)Oreb and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes like Zebah and like Zalmunna,
12 Which have said, Let us take for our possession the [k]habitations of God.
13 O my God, make them like unto a [l]wheel, and as the stubble before the wind.
14 As the fire burneth the forest, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire:
15 So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.
16 Fill their faces with shame, that they may [m]seek thy Name, O Lord.
17 Let them be confounded and troubled forever: yea, let them be put to shame, and perish,
18 That they may [n]know that thou, which art calleth Jehovah, art alone, even the most High over all the earth.
84 1 David driven forth of his country, 2 Desireth most ardently to come again to the tabernacle of the Lord and the assembly of the Saints to praise God, 4 pronouncing them blessed that may so do. 6 Then he praiseth the courage of the people, that pass through the wilderness to assemble themselves in Zion. 10 Finally, with praise of this matter and confidence of God’s goodness, he endeth the Psalm.
To him that excelleth upon Gittith. A Psalm committed to the sons of Korah.
1 O [o]Lord of hosts, how amiable are thy Tabernacles?
2 My soul longeth, yea, and fainted for the [p]courts of the Lord: for my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God.
3 Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house, and the swallow a nest for her, where she may lay her young: even by thine [q]altars, O Lord of hosts, my king and my God.
4 Blessed are they that dwell in thine house, they will ever praise thee. Selah.
5 Blessed is the man whose [r]strength is in thee, and in whose heart are thy ways.
6 They going through the valley of [s]Baca, make wells therein: the rain also covereth the pools.
7 They go from [t]strength to strength, till every one appear before God in Zion.
8 O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer, hearken, O God of Jacob. Selah.
9 Behold, O God, our shield, and look upon the face of thine [u]Anointed.
10 For [v]a day in thy courts is better than a thousand other where: I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tabernacles of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is the sun and shield unto us: the Lord will give grace and glory, and no [w]good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
