5 Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (for he was the firstborn; but forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.
2 For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and from him came the chief ruler, but the birthright was Joseph’s) —
3 the sons, I say, of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
4 The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,
5 Micah his son, Reaiah his son, Baal his son,
6 Beerah his son, whom Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria carried away captive; he was prince of the Reubenites.
7 And his brethren by their families, when the genealogy of their generations was reckoned, were the chief Jeiel, and Zechariah,
8 and Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel,who dwelt in Aroer, even unto Nebo and Baalmeon;
9 and eastward he inhabited unto the entrance of the wilderness from the River Euphrates, because their cattle had multiplied in the land of Gilead.
10 And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagrites, who fell by their hand; and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.
11 And the children of Gad dwelt opposite them in the land of Bashan to Salcah:
12 Joel the chief, and Shapham the next, and Jaanai, and Shaphat in Bashan.
13 And their brethren of the house of their fathers were Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Jorai, and Jachan, and Zia, and Heber, seven.
14 These are the children of Abihail the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz;
15 Ahi the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, chief of the house of their fathers.
16 And they dwelt in Gilead in Bashan, and in her towns, and in all the suburbs of Sharon upon their borders.
17 All these were reckoned by genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.
18 The sons of Reuben and the Gadites and half the tribe of Manasseh, valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow and skillful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore who went out to the war.
19 And they made war with the Hagrites, with Jetur, and Naphish, and Nodab.
20 And they were helped against them, and the Hagrites were delivered into their hand, and all who were with them; for they cried to God in the battle, and He was entreated by them, because they put their trust in Him.
21 And they took away their cattle, of their camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men a hundred thousand.
22 For there fell down many slain, because the war was of God. And they dwelt in their lands until the captivity.
23 And the children of the halftribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land; they increased from Bashan to Baalhermon and Senir, and to Mount Hermon.
24 And these were the heads of the house of their fathers: even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valor, famous men, and heads of the house of their fathers.
25 And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.
26 And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the halftribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the River Gozan unto this day.

31 And these are they whom David set over the service of song in the house of the Lord after the ark came to rest.
32 And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem; and then they served in their office according to their order.
33 And these are those who served with their children. Of the sons of the Kohathites: Heman a singer, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel,

48 Their brethren also, the Levites, were appointed unto all manner of service of the tabernacle of the house of God.
49 But Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of the burnt offering and on the altar of incense, and were appointed for all the work of the place most holy, and to make an atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.

54 Now these are their dwelling places throughout their camps in their borders, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites, for theirs was the lot:
55 and they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, and the suburbs thereof round about it.
56 But the fields of the city and the villages thereof, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
57 And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of Judah, namely: Hebron, the city of refuge, and Libnah with her suburbs, and Jattir and Eshtemoa with their suburbs,

59 and Ashan with her suburbs, and Bethshemesh with her suburbs.
60 And out of the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with her suburbs, and Alemeth with her suburbs, and Anathoth with her suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.
61 And unto the sons of Kohath who were left of the family of that tribe, were cities given out of the halftribe, namely, out of the halftribe of Manasseh, by lot, ten cities.
62 And to the sons of Gershom, throughout their families out of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.

65 And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin these cities, which are called by their names.
66 And the residue of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their borders out of the tribe of Ephraim.

10 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come and not the very image of those things, can never, with those sacrifices which they offered continually year by year, make those who come unto it perfect.
2 For then would not sacrifices have ceased to be offered? For worshipers once purged should have had no more consciousness of sins.
3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year,
4 for it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
5 Therefore when He cometh into the world, He saith, “Sacrifice and offering Thou wouldest not have, but a body hast Thou prepared for Me.
6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin Thou hast had no pleasure.
7 Then said I, ‘Lo, I come (in the volume of the Book it is written of Me) to do Thy will, O God.’”
8 Above when He said, “Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings, and offering for sin Thou wouldest not have, neither hadst pleasure therein” (which are offered in accordance with the law),
9 then said He, “Lo, I come to do Thy will, O God,” He taketh away the first, that He may establish the second.
10 By this will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering time and again the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down at the right hand of God,
13 from henceforth to wait until His enemies be made His footstool.
14 For by one offering He hath perfected for ever those who are sanctified.
15 Of this the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us; for after He had said before,
16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
17 and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.”
18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
19 Having therefore boldness, brethren, to enter into the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 by a new and living Way, which He hath consecrated for us through the veil (that is to say, His flesh),
21 and having a High Priest over the house of God,
22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast to the profession of our faith without wavering (for He is faithful who promised),
24 and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works,
25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as ye see the Day approaching.
26 For if we sin willfully after having received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath accounted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath despised the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know Him that hath said, “Vengeance belongeth unto Me; I will recompense,” saith the Lord. And again, “The Lord shall judge His people.”
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
32 But call to remembrance the former days in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions,
33 partly while ye were being made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions, and partly while ye became companions of those who were so used.
34 For ye had compassion on me in my bonds and took joyfully the despoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in Heaven a better and an enduring substance.
35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.
36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
37 “For yet a little while, and He that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith; but if any man draw back, My soul shall have no pleasure in him.”
39 But we are not of those who draw back unto perdition, but of those who believe, to the saving of the soul.
4 Hear this word, ye cows of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their masters, “Bring, and let us drink.”
2 The Lord God hath sworn by His holiness that: “Lo, the days shall come upon you, that He will take you away with hooks and your posterity with fishhooks.
3 And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her, and ye shall cast them into the palace,” saith the Lord.
4 “Come to Bethel and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning and your tithes after three years.
5 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings; for so ye love, O ye children of Israel,” saith the Lord God.
6 “And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places; yet have ye not returned unto Me,” saith the Lord.
7 “And also I have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city. One piece was rained upon, and the piece upon which it rained not withered.
8 So two or three cities wandered unto one city to drink water, but they were not satisfied; yet have ye not returned unto Me,” saith the Lord.
9 “I have smitten you with blight and mildew; when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmer worm devoured them; yet have ye not returned unto Me,” saith the Lord.
10 “I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt; your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils; yet have ye not returned unto Me,” saith the Lord.
11 “I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning; yet have ye not returned unto Me,” saith the Lord.
12 “Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel; and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel!”
13 For lo, He that formeth the mountains and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is His thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth—the Lord, the God of Hosts, is His name.
148 Praise ye the Lord! Praise ye the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the heights!
2 Praise ye Him, all His angels; praise ye Him, all His hosts!
3 Praise ye Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all ye stars of light!
4 Praise Him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens!
5 Let them praise the name of the Lord, for He commanded and they were created.
6 He hath also established them for ever and ever; He hath made a decree which shall not pass.
7 Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons and all deeps,
8 fire and hail, snow and vapors, stormy wind fulfilling His word,
9 mountains and all hills, fruitful trees and all cedars,
10 beasts and all cattle, creeping things and flying fowl,
11 kings of the earth and all people, princes and all judges of the earth,
12 both young men and maidens, old men and children.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heaven.
14 He also exalteth the horn of His people, the praise of all His saints, even of the children of Israel, a people near unto Him. Praise ye the Lord!
149 Praise ye the Lord! Sing unto the Lord a new song, and His praise in the congregation of saints!
2 Let Israel rejoice in Him that made him; let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
3 Let them praise His name in the dance; let them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp.
4 For the Lord taketh pleasure in His people; He will beautify the meek with salvation.
5 Let the saints be joyful in glory; let them sing aloud upon their beds.
6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand
7 to execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
8 to bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
9 to execute upon them the judgment written: this honor have all His saints. Praise ye the Lord!
150 Praise ye the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in the firmament of His power!
2 Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the psaltery and harp!
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and organs!
5 Praise Him upon the loud cymbals; praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals!
6 Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord! Praise ye the Lord!
