M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
1 Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.
2 And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick. And he sent messengers and aid unto them, “Go, inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover from this disease.”
3 But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and say unto them, ‘Is it not because there is not a God in Israel that ye go to inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?’
4 Now therefore thus saith the Lord: ‘Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou hast gone up, but shalt surely die!’” And Elijah departed.
5 And when the messengers returned unto the king, he said unto them, “Why have ye now turned back?”
6 And they said unto him, “There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, ‘Go, return unto the king who sent you and say unto him, “Thus saith the Lord: Is it not because there is not a God in Israel that thou sendest to inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? Therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou hast gone up, but shalt surely die!”’”
7 And he said unto them, “What manner of man was he that came up to meet you and told you these words?”
8 And they answered him, “He was a hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins.” And he said, “It is Elijah he Tishbite.”
9 Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him; and behold, he sat on the top of a ill. And he spoke unto him, “Thou man of God, the king hath said, ‘Come down.’”
10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, “If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume hee and thy fifty.” And there came down fire from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.
11 Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, “O man of God, thus hath the king said, ‘Come down quickly.’”
12 And Elijah answered and said unto them, “If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume thee and thy fifty.” And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.
13 And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him and said unto him, “O man of God, I pray thee, let my life and the life of these fifty, thy servants, be precious in thy sight.
14 Behold, there came fire down from heaven and burned up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties. Therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight!”
15 And the angel of the Lord said unto Elijah, “Go down with him; be not afraid of him.” And he arose and went down with him unto the king.
16 And he said unto him, “Thus saith the Lord: ‘Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? Therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou hast gone up, but shalt surely die!’”
17 So he died according to the word of the Lord which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, because he had no son.
18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy, Unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
2 Grace unto you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth,
4 so that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all persecutions and tribulations that ye endure,
5 which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the Kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer.
6 For it is a righteous thing with God to recompense with tribulation those who trouble you;
7 and to you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from Heaven with His mighty angels,
8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who know not God, and who obey not the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
10 when He shall come on that Day to be glorified in His saints and to be admired in all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.
11 Therefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power,
12 that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
5 Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
2 Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, that the king and his princes, his wives, and his concubines might drink therein.
3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his princes, his wives, and his concubines drank from them.
4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote opposite the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
6 Then the king’s countenance was changed and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed and his knees smote one against another.
7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, “Whosoever shall read this writing and show me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.”
8 Then came in all the king’s wise men; but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.
9 Then was King Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were dismayed.
10 Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house. And the queen spoke and said, “O king, live for ever! Let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed.
11 There is a man in thy kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. And in the days of thy father, light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him whom King Nebuchadnezzar thy father — the king, I say, thy father — made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers.
12 Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and interpreting of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts were found in the same Daniel whom the king named Belteshazzar, now let Daniel be called and he will show the interpretation.”
13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spoke and said unto Daniel, “Art thou that Daniel who art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?
14 I have even heard of thee that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in thee.
15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing and make known unto me the interpretation thereof; but they could not show the interpretation of the thing.
16 And I have heard of thee that thou canst make interpretations and dissolve doubts. Now if thou canst read the writing and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.”
17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, “Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
18 O thou king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty and glory and honor.
19 And for the majesty that He gave him, all people, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whomever he would he slew; and whomever he would he kept alive; and whomever he would he set up; and whomever he would he put down.
20 But when his heart was lifted up and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.
21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that He appointeth over it whomsoever He will.
22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart though thou knewest all this,
23 but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of His house before thee, and thou and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines have drunk wine from them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not nor hear nor know. And the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified.
24 “Then was the part of the hand sent from Him, and this writing was written.
25 And this is the writing that was written: Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin.
26 This is the interpretation of the thing. Mene: God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
27 Tekel: Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
28 Peres: Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.”
29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
31 And Darius the Mede took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.
110 The Lord said unto my Lord, “Sit Thou at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool.”
2 The Lord shall send the rod of Thy strength out of Zion. Rule Thou in the midst of Thine enemies!
3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of Thy power; in the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, Thou hast the dew of Thy youth.
4 The Lord hath sworn and will not repent: “Thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord at Thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of His wrath.
6 He shall judge among the heathen, He shall fill the places with dead bodies, He shall wound the heads over many countries.
7 He shall drink of the brook on the way; therefore shall He lift up the head.
111 Praise ye the Lord! I will praise the Lord with my whole heart in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.
2 The works of the Lord are great, sought out by all them that have pleasure therein.
3 His work is honorable and glorious, and His righteousness endureth for ever.
4 He hath made His wonderful works to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.
5 He hath given meat unto them that fear Him; He will ever be mindful of His covenant.
6 He hath shown His people the power of His works, that He may give them the heritage of the heathen.
7 The works of His hands are verity and judgment; all His commandments are sure.
8 They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption unto His people; He hath commanded His covenant for ever; holy and reverend is His name.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all they that do His commandments. His praise endureth for ever!
