Yahweh’s House Will Be Great

2 ^[a](A)Then Solomon ^[b]decided to build a house for the name of Yahweh and a ^[c]royal palace for himself. ^2 [d]So ^(B)Solomon numbered 70,000 men to carry loads and 80,000 men to hew stone in the mountains and 3,600 to direct them.

^3 (C)Then Solomon sent word to ^[e]Huram the king of Tyre, saying, “^(D)As you dealt with David my father and sent him cedars to build him a house to live in, so do for me. ⁴ Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God, setting it apart to Him as holy, ^(E)to burn fragrant incense before Him and to set out ^(F)the showbread continually, and to offer ^(G)burnt offerings morning and evening, ^(H)on sabbaths and on new moons and on the appointed feasts of Yahweh our God, this being required forever in Israel. ⁵ Now the house which I am about to build will be great, for ^(I)greater is our God than all the gods. ⁶ But ^(J)who is able to build a house for Him, for the heavens and the highest heavens cannot contain Him? So who am I, that I should build a house for Him, except to ^[f]burn incense before Him? ⁷ So now, ^(K)send me a wise man to work in gold, silver, brass, and iron, and in purple, crimson, and blue fabrics, and who knows how to make engravings, to work with the wise men ^[g](L)whom I have in Judah and Jerusalem, whom David my father prepared. ^8 (M)Send me also cedar, cypress and algum timber from Lebanon, for I know that your servants know how to cut timber of Lebanon; and behold, ^(N)my servants will work with your servants, ⁹ to prepare timber in abundance for me, for the house which I am about to build will be great and wonderful. ¹⁰ And behold, ^(O)I will give to your servants, the woodsmen who cut the timber, ^[h]20,000 kors of crushed wheat and 20,000 kors of barley, and ^[i]20,000 baths of wine and 20,000 baths of oil.”

Covenant with Huram King of Tyre

¹¹ Then Huram king of Tyre said in a letter ^[j]sent to Solomon: “^(P)Because Yahweh loves His people, He has given you to be king over them.” ¹² Then Huram said, “Blessed be ^(Q)Yahweh, the God of Israel, who has made heaven and earth, who has given King David a wise son, knowledgeable in insight and understanding, ^(R)who will build a house for Yahweh and a ^[k]royal palace for himself.

¹³ “So now, I am sending Huram-abi, a wise man, who is knowledgeable in understanding, ^14 (S)the son of a ^[l]Danite woman and ^[m]a Tyrian father, who knows how to work in gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone, and wood, and in purple, blue, linen, and crimson fabrics, and who knows how to make all kinds of engravings and to devise any design which may be given to him, to work with your wise men and with the wise men of my lord David your father. ¹⁵ So now, let my lord send to his servants wheat and barley, oil and wine, of ^(T)which he has spoken. ^16 (U)And we will cut whatever timber you need from Lebanon and bring it to you on rafts by sea to Joppa, so that you may carry it up to Jerusalem.”

¹⁷ Then Solomon numbered all the sojourners who were in the land of Israel, ^(V)following the ^[n]census which his father David had ^[o]taken; and 153,600 were found. ^18 (W)And he made 70,000 of them to carry loads and 80,000 as hewers of stone in the mountains and 3,600 directors to make the people work.

Jesus Christ Our Advocate

2 ^(A)My little children, I am ^(B)writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, ^(C)we have an ^[a](D)Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; ² and He Himself is ^(E)the ^[b]propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also ^(F)for those of the whole world.

^3 (G)And by this we know that we have come to ^(H)know Him, if we ^(I)keep His commandments. ⁴ The one who says, “^(J)I have come to ^(K)know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a ^(L)liar, and ^(M)the truth is not in him; ⁵ but whoever ^(N)keeps His word, truly in him the ^(O)love of God has been perfected. ^(P)By this we know that we are in Him: ⁶ the one who says he ^(Q)abides in Him ^(R)ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

^7 (S)Beloved, I am ^(T)not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had ^(U)from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. ^8 [c]On the other hand, I am writing ^(V)a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because ^(W)the darkness is passing away and ^(X)the true Light is already shining. ⁹ The one who says he is in the Light and yet ^(Y)hates his ^(Z)brother is in the darkness until now. ^10 (AA)The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. ¹¹ But the one who ^(AB)hates his brother is in the darkness and ^(AC)walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness ^(AD)blinded his eyes.

¹² I am writing to you, ^(AE)little children, because ^(AF)your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. ¹³ I am writing to you, fathers, because you have known Him ^(AG)who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because ^(AH)you have overcome ^(AI)the evil one. I have written to you, children, because ^[d](AJ)you have known the Father. ¹⁴ I have written to you, fathers, because you have known Him ^(AK)who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are ^(AL)strong, and the ^(AM)word of God abides in you, and ^(AN)you have overcome the evil one.

Do Not Love the World

¹⁵ Do not love ^(AO)the world nor the things in the world. ^(AP)If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, ^(AQ)the lust of the flesh and ^(AR)the lust of the eyes and ^(AS)the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. ^17 (AT)And the world is passing away, and also its lusts, but the one who ^(AU)does the will of God abides forever.

¹⁸ Children, ^(AV)it is the last hour; and just as you heard that ^(AW)antichrist is coming, ^(AX)even now many antichrists have appeared. From this we know that it is the last hour. ^19 (AY)They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they were of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, ^(AZ)so that ^[e]it would be manifested that they all are not of us. ^20 [f]But you have an ^(BA)anointing from ^(BB)the Holy One, and ^(BC)you all know. ²¹ I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but ^(BD)because you do know it, and ^[g]because no lie is ^(BE)of the truth. ²² Who is the liar but ^(BF)the one who denies that Jesus is the ^[h]Christ? This is ^(BG)the ^[i]antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. ^23 (BH)Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. ²⁴ As for you, let that which you heard ^(BI)from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also ^(BJ)will abide in the Son and in the Father. ^25 (BK)And this is the promise which He Himself ^[j]made to us: eternal life.

²⁶ These things I have written to you about those who are trying to ^(BL)deceive you. ²⁷ And as for you, the ^(BM)anointing whom you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as His anointing ^(BN)teaches you about all things, and is ^(BO)true and is not a lie, and just as He has taught you, ^[k]abide in Him.

²⁸ And now, ^(BP)little children, abide in Him, so that when He ^(BQ)is manifested, we may have ^(BR)confidence and ^(BS)not ^[l]shrink away from Him in shame ^[m]at His ^(BT)coming. ²⁹ If you know that ^(BU)He is righteous, you know that everyone also who does righteousness ^(BV)has been ^[n]born of Him.

¹² Thus says Yahweh,

Do All Which Jesus Commands

17 Now He said to His disciples, “^(A)It is ^[a]inevitable that ^[b]stumbling blocks come, but woe to him through whom they come! ^2 (B)It ^[c]would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea, than that he would cause one of these little ones to stumble. ^3 [d]Be on your guard! ^(C)If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. ⁴ And if he sins against you ^(D)seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ ^[e]forgive him.”

^5 (E)And the apostles said to ^(F)the Lord, “Increase our faith!” ⁶ And ^(G)the Lord said, “If you have faith like ^(H)a mustard seed, you would say to this ^(I)mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea’; and it would ^[f]obey you.

⁷ “But which of you, having a slave plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come immediately and ^[g]sit down to eat’? ⁸ But will he not say to him, ‘^(J)Prepare something for me to eat, and, ^[h]clothing yourself properly, serve me while I eat and drink; and ^[i]afterward you ^[j]may eat and drink’? ⁹ Is he grateful to the slave because he did the things which were commanded? ¹⁰ In this way, you also, when you do all the things which are commanded of you, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.’”

Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers

¹¹ And it happened that while He was ^(K)on the way to Jerusalem, ^(L)He was passing through Samaria and Galilee. ¹² And as He entered a village, ten leprous men who ^(M)stood at a distance met Him. ¹³ And they raised their voices, saying, “Jesus, ^(N)Master, have mercy on us!” ¹⁴ When He saw them, He said to them, “^(O)Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And it happened that as they were going, they were cleansed. ¹⁵ Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, ^(P)glorifying God with a loud voice, ¹⁶ and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a ^(Q)Samaritan. ¹⁷ Then Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine—where are they? ^18 [k]Was there no one found who turned back to ^(R)give glory to God, except this foreigner?” ¹⁹ And He said to him, “Stand up and go; ^(S)your faith has ^[l]saved you.”

²⁰ Now having been questioned by the Pharisees ^(T)as to when the kingdom of God was coming, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God is not coming with ^[m](U)signs to be observed, ²¹ nor will ^(V)they say, ‘Look, here!’ or, ‘There!’ For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

The Coming of the Son of Man

²² And He said to the disciples, “^(W)The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. ^23 (X)And they will say to you, ‘Look there! Look here!’ Do not go away, and do not run after them. ^24 (Y)For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part ^[n]of the sky, shines to the other part ^[o]of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day. ^25 (Z)But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. ^26 (AA)And just as it was ^(AB)in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: ²⁷ they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. ^28 [p]It was the same as in ^(AC)the days of Lot—they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building; ²⁹ but on the day that Lot went out from Sodom it rained fire and ^[q]brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. ³⁰ It will be ^[r]just the same on the day that the Son of Man ^(AD)is revealed. ³¹ On that day, the one who is ^(AE)on the housetop and whose goods are in the house must not go down to take them out, and likewise the one who is in the field must not turn back. ^32 (AF)Remember Lot’s wife. ^33 (AG)Whoever seeks to keep his ^[s]life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. ³⁴ I tell you, on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left. ^35 (AH)There will be two women grinding grain at the same place; one will be taken and the other will be left. ^36 [t][^(AI)Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other will be left.”] ³⁷ And answering they *said to Him, “Where, Lord?” And He said to them, “^(AJ)Where the body is, there also the ^[u]vultures will be gathered.”
