Genesis 14

14 ¶ And it came to pass in those days that Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of the Gentiles

made war against Bera king of Sodom and against Birsha king of Gomorrah and against Shinab king of Admah and against Shemeber king of Zeboiim and against the king of Bela, which is Zoar.

All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.

Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

And in the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him came and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim and the Zuzims in Ham and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim

and the Horites in their Mount Seir unto the plain of Paran, which is by the wilderness.

And they returned and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the works of the Amalekites and also the Amorites that dwelt in Hazezontamar.

And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah and the king of Admah and the king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar) went out, and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim,

that is, against Chedorlaomer the king of Elam and Tidal king of the Gentiles and Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar: four kings against five.

10 And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits, and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and fell there; and those that remained fled to the mountain.

11 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their provisions and went away.

12 And they also took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods and departed.

13 ¶ And one came that had escaped and told Abram the Hebrew, who dwelt among the terebinth trees of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner; and these were confederate with Abram.

14 And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his tried and experienced servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.

15 And he and his slaves poured themselves out against them by night and smote them and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

16 And he recovered all the goods and also brought again his brother Lot and his goods and the women also and the people.

17 ¶ And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the valley of the king.

18 Then Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought forth bread and wine, for he was the priest of the most high God.

19 And he blessed him and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of the heavens and of the earth;

20 and blessed be the most high God, who has delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And Abram gave him tithes of all.

21 ¶ Then the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons and take the goods to thyself.

22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of the heavens and of the earth,

23 that I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet; I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou should say, I have made Abram rich,

24 except only that which the young men have eaten and the portion of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre, who shall take their portion.

Matthew 13

13 ¶ The same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea side.

And a great multitude was gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship and sat, and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

And he spoke many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow;

and when he sowed, some of the seed fell beside the way, and the fowls came and devoured them up.

Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth; and forthwith they sprang up because they had no deepness of earth;

and when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up and choked them.

But some fell into good ground and brought forth fruit: one a hundredfold and another sixtyfold and another thirtyfold.

He

who has ears to hear, let him hear.

10 Then the disciples came and said unto him, Why dost thou speak unto them in parables?

11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given.

12 For whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have in abundance; but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that which he has.

13 Therefore, I speak to them in parables because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says, By hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see and shall not perceive;

15 for this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heart and should be converted, and I should heal them.

16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.

17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see and have not seen them and to hear those things which ye hear and have not heard them.

18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who was planted beside the way.

20 But he that was planted in stony places, the same is he that hears the word and receives it immediately with joy;

21 yet he has no root in himself but is temporal, for when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended.

22 And he that was planted among the thorns is he that hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

23 But he that was planted in good ground is he that hears the word and understands it and who also bears the fruit and brings forth: one a hundredfold and another sixty and another thirty.

24 ¶ He put forth another parable unto them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is likened unto a man who sows good seed in his field

25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away.

26 But when the blade was sprung up and brought forth fruit, then the tares appeared also.

27 So the slaves of the husband of the house came and said unto him, Lord, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? From where then does it have tares?

28 He said unto them, The enemy, a man, has done this. The slaves said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 But he said, No, lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.

31 He put forth another parable unto them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field;

32 which indeed is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and make their nests in its branches.

33 He spoke another parable unto them: The kingdom of the heavens is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until the whole was leavened.

34 Jesus spoke all these things unto the multitude in parables and said nothing unto them without parables

35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house, and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

37 He answered and said unto them, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man;

38 the field is the world; the good seed are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked;

39 and the enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.

40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so shall it be in the end of this age.

41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend and those who do iniquity

42 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

44 ¶ Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto treasure hid in the field, which when found, a man hides it and, for the joy thereof, goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

45 Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls,

46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

47 Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a net that was cast into the sea and gathered of every kind of fish,

48 which, when it was full, they drew to shore and sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

49 So shall it be at the end of the age; the angels shall come forth and separate the wicked from among the just

50 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

51 Jesus said unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They answered unto him, Yes, Lord.

52 And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed in the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a man, a husband of a house, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.

53 ¶ And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.

54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished and said, From where does this man have this wisdom and these mighty works?

55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?

56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? From where then does this man have all these things?

57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour except in his own country and in his own house.

58 And he did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

14 And Malchiah, the son of Rechab, prince of the province of Bethhaccerem, restored the dung gate; he built it and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars.

15 Shallun, the son of Colhozeh, the prince of the region of Mizpah, restored the gate of the fountain; he built it, covered it, and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars, and the wall of the pool of Siloah of the king’s garden, unto the stairs that go down from the city of David.

32 And between the going up of the corner unto the sheep gate, the refiners and the merchants restored.

Acts 13

13 ¶ Now there were in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} that was at Antioch prophets and teachers: Barnabas and Simeon that was called Niger and Lucius of Cyrene and Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work unto which I have called them.

And when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they released them.

¶ So they, being sent forth by the Holy Spirit, departed unto Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

And when they arrived at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews, and they also had John as an attendant.

And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain wise man, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus,

who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man, who called for Barnabas and Saul and desired to hear the word of God.

But Elymas the wise man (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith.

Then Saul (who also is Paul), filled with the Holy Spirit, set his eyes on him

10 and said, O full of all deception and all licentiousness, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is against thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness, and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

12 Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

13 Now when Paul and his company sailed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia; then John, departing from them, returned to Jerusalem.

14 ¶ But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day and sat down.

15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the princes of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.

16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel and ye that fear God hearken.

17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with a high arm he brought them out of it.

18 And for the time of about forty years, he suffered their manners in the wilderness.

19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he divided their land to them by lot.

20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.

21 And afterward they asked for a king, and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king, to whom also he gave testimony, saying, I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who shall fulfil all my will.

23 Of this man’s seed has God according to his promise raised up Jesus as Saviour unto Israel:

24 John, having first proclaimed before his coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there comes one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

26 Men and brethren, sons of the lineage of Abraham, and whosoever among you fears God, unto you is this word of saving health sent.

27 For those that dwell at Jerusalem and their princes, because they knew him not nor yet the voices of the prophets who are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.

28 And without finding cause of death in him, yet they asked Pilate that he should be slain.

29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a sepulchre.

30 But God raised him from the dead,

31 and he was seen many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who until now are his witnesses unto the people.

32 And we declare unto you the gospel of the promise which was made unto the fathers,

33 which God has fulfilled unto us their children, in that he has raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said this, I will give you the sure mercies promised to David.

35 Therefore he also says in another place, Thou shalt not suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.

36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep and was gathered unto his fathers and saw corruption;

37 but he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

38 Be it known unto you, therefore, men and brethren, that through this one is preached unto you the remission of sins;

39 and in him all that believe are justified from all the things from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

40 Beware, therefore, lest what is spoken of in the prophets come upon you:

41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder and perish, for I do a work in your days, a work which ye would in no wise believe, if one should declare it unto you.

42 ¶ And when they were gone out of the synagogue of the Jews, the Gentiles besought that these words might be spoken to them the next sabbath.

43 Now when the synagogue was dismissed, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to remain in the grace of God.

44 And the next sabbath day almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.

45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy and spoke against that which Paul said, contradicting and blaspheming.

46 Then Paul and Barnabas speaking with freedom, said, It was necessary indeed that the word of God should first have been spoken to you; but seeing ye put it from you and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

47 For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles that thou should be for saving health unto the ends of the earth.

48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord, and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women and the principals of the city and raised up persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expelled them out of their borders.

51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them and came unto Iconium.

52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
