M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
10 After this, the king of the children of Ammon died. And Hanun, his son, reigned in his place.
2 Then David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun, the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” And David sent his servants to comfort him for his father. So, David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
3 And the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, their lord, “Do you think that David honors your father because he has sent comforters to you? Has not David sent his servants to you to search the city and to spy it out and to overthrow it?”
4 Therefore, Hanun took David’s servants and shaved off half of their beard and cut off their garments in the middle, down to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 When it was told to David, he sent to meet them (for the men were exceedingly ashamed) and the king said, “Stay in Jericho until your beards have grown, then return.”
6 And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank in the sight of David, the children of Ammon sent and hired twenty thousand Aramite footmen from the House of Rehob, and the Aramites from Zoba, and a thousand men from King Maacah, and twelve thousand men from Ish-Tob.
7 And when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the strong men.
8 And the children of Ammon came out and put their army in formation at the entrance of the gate. And the Aramites from Zoba and from Rehob and from Ish-Tob and from Maacah were by themselves in the field.
9 When Joab saw that the fronts of the battle were against him both in front and in the rear, he chose from all the choice of Israel and put them in formation against the Aramites.
10 And he delivered the rest of the people into the hand of Abishai, his brother, so that he might put them in formation against the children of Ammon.
11 And he said, “If the Aramites are stronger than me, you shall help me. And if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, I will come and help you.
12 “Be strong! And let us be valiant for our people and for the cities of our God! And let the LORD do that which is good in His Eyes.”
13 Then Joab and the people who were with him joined in battle with the Aramites, who fled before him.
14 And when the children of Ammon saw that the Aramites fled, they also fled before Abishai and entered into the city. So, Joab returned from the children of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.
15 And when the Aramites saw that they were stricken before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
16 And Hadarezer sent and brought out the Aramites who were beyond the river. And they came to Helam. And Shobach, the captain of the army of Hadadezer, went before them.
17 When it was told to David, they gathered all Israel together and passed over Jordan and came to Helam. And the Aramites set themselves in formation against David and fought with him.
18 And the Aramites fled before Israel. And David destroyed seven hundred chariots of the Aramites, and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach, the captain of his army, who died there.
19 And when all the kings serving Hadadezer saw that they fell before Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. And the Aramites were afraid to help the children of Ammon anymore.
3 Do we begin to praise ourselves again? Or do we need, as some others, letters of recommendation to you, or of recommendation from you?
2 You are our letter, written in our hearts, which is understood and read by all mankind;
3 in that you appear to be the letter of Christ, ministered by us, and written, not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not on tablets of stone, but on fleshly tablets of the heart.
4 And such trust we have through Christ toward God.
5 Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to think anything of ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,
6 Who has also made us able ministers of the New Testament - not of the letter, but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
7 If then, the ministry of death (written with letters and engraved in stones) was glorious; so that the children of Israel could not behold the face of Moses because of the Glory of his countenance (a Glory which has gone away),
8 how shall not the ministry of the Spirit be more glorious?
9 For if the ministry of condemnation was glorious, the ministry of righteousness much more exceeds it in glory.
10 For even that which was glorified was not glorified in this point: that is, regarding the exceeding glory.
11 For if that which is abolished was glorious, much more so shall that which remains be glorious.
12 Seeing then that we have such trust, we use great boldness of speech.
13 And we are not as Moses, who put a veil upon his face so that the children of Israel would not look intently into the end of that which would be abolished.
14 But their minds were hardened. For until this day remains the same covering in the reading of the old Testament, which veil is put away in Christ.
15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, the veil is laid over their hearts.
16 Nevertheless, when their heart shall be turned to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.
17 Now, the Lord is the Spirit. And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with unveiled face, behold as in a mirror the Glory of the Lord; and are changed into the same image, from glory to Glory, as by the Spirit of the Lord.
17 And the Word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2 “Son of man, put forth a parable and speak a proverb to the House of Israel,
3 “and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “The great eagle, with great wings, long wings, full of feathers, which had diverse colors, came to Lebanon and took the highest branch of the cedar,
4 “and broke off the top of his twig and carried it into the land of trade and set it in a city of merchants.
5 “He also took from the seed of the land and planted it in fruitful ground. He placed it by great waters and set it as a willow tree.
6 “And it budded up and was like a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward it, and its roots were under it. So it became a vine, and it brought forth branches and shot forth buds.
7 “There was also another great eagle, with great wings and many feathers. And behold, this vine turned her roots toward it and spread forth her branches toward it, so that she might water it near the trenches of her planting.
8 “It was planted in a good soil by great waters, so that it would bring forth branches, and bear fruit, and be an excellent vine.”’
9 “Say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Shall it prosper? Shall he not pull up its roots and destroy its fruit and cause them to dry up? All the leaves of her bud shall wither without great power or many people to pluck it up by its roots.
10 “Behold, it was planted, but shall it prosper? Shall it not dry up and wither? When the East wind shall touch it, it shall wither in the trenches where it grew.”’”
11 Moreover, the Word of the LORD came to me, saying:
12 “Now say to this rebellious House, ‘Do you not know what these things mean?’ Tell them, ‘Behold, the king of Babel has come to Jerusalem, and has taken its king and its princes and led them with him to Babel,
13 ‘and has taken the king’s seed and made a covenant with him and has taken an oath from him. He has also taken the princes of the land,
14 ‘so that the kingdom might be in subjection, and not lift itself up, keeping their covenant so that it might stand.
15 ‘But he rebelled against him and sent his ambassadors into Egypt, so that they might give him horses and many people. Shall he prosper? Shall he escape who does such things? Or shall he break the covenant and still be delivered?
16 ‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘in the place of the king who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, with him he shall die in the midst of Babel.
17 ‘Nor shall Pharaoh, with his mighty army and great multitude of people, maintain him in the war when they have cast up siege mounds and built ramparts to destroy many people.
18 ‘For he has despised the oath and broken the covenant (yet, lo, he had given his hand). Because he has done all these things, he shall not escape.’”
19 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: “As I live, I will surely bring My oath that he has despised, and My Covenant that he has broken, upon his own head.
20 “And I will spread My net upon him, and he shall be taken in My net. And I will bring him to Babel and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he has committed against Me.
21 “And all who flee from him, with all his army, shall fall by the sword. And those who remain shall be scattered toward all the winds. And you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken it.”
22 Thus says the Lord GOD: “I will also take off the top of this high cedar, and will set it out. And I will cut off the top of its tender plant; and I will plant it upon a high and great mountain.
23 “On the high mountain of Israel I will plant it. And it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be an excellent cedar. And all birds shall remain under it. Every bird shall dwell in the shadow of its branches.
24 “And all the trees of the field shall know that I, the LORD, have brought down the high tree and exalted the low tree, that I have dried up the green tree and made the dry tree flourish. I, the LORD, have spoken it and have done it.”
60 O God, You have cast us out. You have scattered us. You have been angry. Turn again to us.
2 You have made the land tremble and have made it gape. Heal the breaches thereof, for it is shaken.
3 You have shown Your people heavy things. You have made us drink the wine of giddiness.
4 You have given a banner to those who fear You, so that it may be displayed, because of Your truth. Selah.
5 So that Your beloved may be delivered, help with Your right hand and hear me.
6 God has spoken in His holiness, “I will rejoice. I shall divide Shechem and measure the valley of Succoth.
7 “Gilead shall be Mine, and Manasseh shall be Mine. Ephraim also shall be the strength of My head. Judah is My lawgiver.
8 “Moab shall be My washpot. I will cast out My shoe over Edom. Philistia show yourself joyful for Me.”
9 Who will lead me into the strong city? Who will bring me to Edom?
10 Will not you, O God, Who has cast us off; Who did not go forth, O God, with our armies?
11 Give us help against trouble. For vain is the help of man.
12 Through God we shall do valiantly; for He shall tread down our enemies. To him who excels on Neginoth: A Psalm of David
61 Hear my cry, O God! Give ear to my prayer!
2 From the ends of the Earth I will cry to You. When my heart is oppressed, bring me upon the Rock that is higher than I.
3 For You have been my hope, a strong tower against the enemy.
4 I will dwell in Your Tabernacle forever. My trust shall be under the covering of Your wings. Selah.
5 For You, O God, have heard my desires. You have given a heritage to those who fear Your Name.
6 You shall give the king a long life. His years shall be as many ages.
7 He shall dwell before God forever. Prepare mercy and faithfulness, that they may preserve him.
8 So I will always sing praise to Your Name in performing, daily, my vows. To the excellent musician, Jeduthun: A Psalm of David
