2 Samuel 4-5

And when Saul’s son heard that Abner had died in Hebron, his hands were idle. And all Israel was afraid,

And Saul’s son had two men who were captains of bands: one called Baanah and the other called Rechab (the sons of Rimmon, a Beerothite of the children of Benjamin, for Beeroth was reckoned to Benjamin,

because the Beerothites fled to Gittaim and sojourned there to this day).

And Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son who was lame on his feet. He was five years old when the news of Saul and Jonathan came out of Israel. Then his nurse took him and fled away. And as she hurried to flee, the child fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went and came in the heat of the day to the House of Ishbosheth (who slept on a bed at noon).

And behold, Rechab and Baanah, his brother, came into the midst of the house, as though requesting wheat. And they struck him under the fifth rib and fled.

For when they came into the house, he slept on his bed in his bed chamber. And they struck him, and killed him, and beheaded him, and took his head and got away through the plain, all night.

And they brought the head of Ishbosheth to David, to Hebron, and said to the king, “Behold the head of Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, your enemy, who sought after your life. And the LORD has avenged my Lord the king of Saul and of his seed this day.”

Then David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, “As the LORD lives, Who has delivered my soul out of all adversity,

10 “when someone told me and said that Saul was dead (thinking to have brought good tidings), I took him and killed him in Ziklag, even while he thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings.

11 “How much more then, when wicked men have killed a righteous person in his own house, upon his bed, shall I not now therefore require his blood at your hand and take you from the Earth?”

12 Then David commanded his young men, and they killed them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth and buried it in the sepulcher of Abner, in Hebron.

Then all the tribes of Israel came to David, to Hebron, and said this: “Behold, we are your bones and your flesh.

“And in time past, when Saul was our king, you led Israel in and out. And the LORD has said to you, ‘You shall feed my people, Israel, and you shall be a captain over Israel.’”

So, all the elders of Israel came to the king, to Hebron. And King David made a covenant with them in Hebron, before the LORD. And they anointed David king over Israel.

David was thirty years old when he began to reign. He reigned for forty years.

He reigned over Judah for seven years and six months in Hebron. And he reigned over all Israel and Judah for thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

Also, the king and his men went to Jerusalem, to the Jebusites (the inhabitants of the land), who spoke to David, saying, “Unless you turn aside the blind and the lame, you shall not come in here,” thinking that David could not come there.

But David took the fort of Zion. This is the City of David.

Now David had said the same day, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites, go up to the gutters!” (and the lame and blind, whom David’s soul hates). Therefore, they said, “The blind and the lame shall not come into that house!”

So David dwelt in that fort and called it the City of David. And David built all around it, from Millo, inward. LORD God of Hosts was with him.

11 Also Hiram, king of Tyre, sent messengers to David and cedar trees and carpenters and masons for walls. And they built David a house.

12 Then David knew that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that He had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.

13 And after he had come from Hebron, David took more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem for himself. And more sons and daughters were born to David.

14 And these are the names of the sons who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,

16 Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet.

17 But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David. And when David heard, he went down to a fort.

18 But the Philistines came and spread themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.

19 Then David asked counsel of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go up to the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hands?” And the LORD answered David, “Go up! For I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hands.”

20 Then David came to Baal Perazim and struck them there, and said, “The LORD has divided my enemies before me, as waters are divided.” Therefore, he called the name of that place, “Baal Perazim”.

21 And they left their images there; and David and his men burnt them.

22 Again, the Philistines came up and spread themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.

23 And when David asked counsel of the LORD, He answered, “You shall not go up. Circle around behind them and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.

24 “And when you hear the noise of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then move. For then shall the LORD go out before you, to strike the army of the Philistines.”

25 Then David did so, as the LORD had Commanded him, and struck the Philistines from Geba, until you come to Gezer.

1 Corinthians 15

15 Moreover brothers, I declare to you the Gospel which I preached to you, which you have also received, and wherein you continue,

And whereby you are saved, if you keep in memory the Word which I preached to you, unless you have believed in vain.

For first of all, I delivered to you that which I received, how that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures.

And that He was buried, and that He arose the third day, according to the Scriptures.

And that He was seen by Cephas, then by the Twelve.

After that, He was seen by more than five hundred brothers at once, of whom many remain to this time, and some also are asleep.

After that, He was seen by James, then by all the Apostles.

And last of all he was seen also by me, as by one born at the wrong time.

For I am the least of the Apostles, who is not fit to be called an Apostle, because I persecuted the Church of God.

10 But by the grace of God I am that I am. And His grace which is in me, was not in vain. But I labored more abundantly than they all; yet not I, but the grace of God which is with me.

11 Therefore, whether it was me or them, so we preach and so have you believed.

12 Now if it is preached that Christ is risen from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13 For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen.

14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is vain, and your faith is also vain.

15 And we are found also false witnesses of God. For we have testified of God, that He has raised up Christ, Whom He has not raised up, if it be so that the dead are not raised.

16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ is not raised.

17 And if Christ is not raised, your faith is vain. You are still in your sins.

18 And so those who are asleep in Christ, have perished.

19 If it is only in this life that we have hope in Christ, we are of all mankind the most miserable.

20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead and made the firstfruits of those who slept.

21 For since by man came death, by man also came the resurrection of the dead.

22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

23 Yet, each in his own order: the Firstfruits, Christ; afterward, those who are of Christ, at His coming.

24 Then, the end, when He has delivered up the Kingdom to God, even the Father; when He has abolished all rule, and all authority and power.

25 For He must reign till He has put all His enemies under His feet.

26 The last enemy that shall be ended, is death.

27 For He has subjected all things under His feet. (And when He says that all things are subjected, it is obvious that He is excepted, Who subjected all things under Himself.)

28 And when all things shall be subjected to Him, then shall the Son also, Himself, be subject to Him, Who subjected all things under Him, so that God may be all in all.

29 Or else what shall they do who are baptized for dead? If the dead do not rise at all, why then are they baptized for dead?

30 Why are we also in danger every hour?

31 By your rejoicing, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

32 If, after the habit of man, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me, if the dead are not raised up? Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die.

33 Do not be deceived. Bad company corrupts good morals.

34 Awake to righteousness, and do not sin. For some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.

35 But someone will say, “How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come forth?”

36 O fool. That which you sow does not come alive unless it dies.

37 And that which you sow, you do not sow the body that shall be, but bare corn as it falls, of wheat, or of some other.

38 But God gives it a body at His pleasure, even to every seed his own body.

39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of man, and another flesh of beasts, and another of fish, and another of birds.

40 There are also heavenly bodies, and earthly bodies. But the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another.

41 There is another glory of the Sun, and another glory of the Moon, and another glory of the stars. For one star differs from another star in glory.

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption and is raised in incorruption.

43 It is sown in dishonor and is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness and is raised in power.

44 It is sown a natural body and is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

45 As it is also written, “The first man, Adam, was made a living soul.” And the last Adam was made a life-giving Spirit.

46 But that which is spiritual was not first; but that which is natural, and afterward that which is spiritual.

47 The first man is of the Earth, earthly. The second Man is the Lord from Heaven.

48 As is the earthly, such are those who are earthly. And as is the heavenly, such are those also who are heavenly.

49 And as we have borne the image of the earthly, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly.

50 This I say, brothers: that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.

51 Behold, I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet. For the trumpet shall blow, and the dead shall be raised up incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption: and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up into victory.”

55 O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory?

56 The sting of death is sin. And the strength of sin is the Law.

57 But thanks be to God, Who has given us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, unmovable, abundant always in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Ezekiel 13

13 And the Word of the LORD came to me, saying:

“Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy. And say to those who prophesy out of their own hearts, ‘Hear the Word of the LORD!’”

Thus says the Lord GOD: “Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing.

“O Israel, your prophets are like the foxes in the waste places.

“You have not risen up in the gaps or made up the hedge for the House of Israel, to stand in the battle on the day of the LORD.

“They have seen vanity, and lying divination, saying, ‘The LORD says it!’ and the LORD has not sent them. And they hoped that their words would be confirmed.

“Have you not seen an empty vision? And have you not spoken a lying divination? You say, ‘The LORD says it!’ even though I have not spoken.”

Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: “Because you have spoken vanity and have seen lies, therefore behold, I am against you,” says the Lord GOD.

“And My Hand shall be upon the prophets who see vanity, and divine lies. They shall not be in the assembly of My people, nor shall they be written in the record of the House of Israel, nor shall they enter into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

10 “And therefore, because they have deceived My people, saying, ‘Peace!’ and there was no peace—and one builds up a wall and behold, the others daub it with untempered mortar—

11 “say to those who daub it with untempered mortar that it shall fall. There shall come a great shower; and I will send hailstones which shall cause it to fall. And a stormy wind shall break it.

12 “Lo, after the wall has fallen, shall it not be said to you, ‘Where is the daubing with which you have daubed it?’”

13 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “I will cause a stormy wind to break forth in My wrath, and a great shower shall be in My anger and hailstones in indignation, to consume it.

14 “So I will destroy the wall that you have daubed with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation shall be uncovered. And it shall fall; and you shall be consumed in its midst. And you shall know that I am the LORD.

15 “Thus I will accomplish My wrath upon the wall, and upon those who have daubed it with untempered mortar, and will say to you, ‘The wall is no more, nor its daubers

16 ‘(to wit, the prophets of Israel, who prophesy upon Jerusalem and see visions of peace for it, and there is no peace),’ says the Lord GOD.

17 “Likewise, you son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy out of their own heart. And Prophesy against them, and say,

18 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Woe to the women who sew pillows into joints and make veils for the heads of people of every stature, to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of My people? And will you give life to the souls who come to you?

19 “And will you defame Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread—to slay the souls of those who should not die, and to give life to the souls who should not live—by lying to My people who hear your lies?”’”

20 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against your pillows with which you hunt the souls, to make them flee. And I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, the souls that you hunt to make them flee.

21 “Also, I will tear your veils and deliver My people out of your hand. And they shall no longer be in your hands, to be hunted. And you shall know that I am the LORD.

22 “Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad (whom I have not made sad) and strengthened the hands of the wicked by promising him life, so that he would not return from his wicked way.

23 “Therefore, you shall see no more vanity or divine divinations. For I will deliver My people out of your hand. And you shall know that I am the LORD.”

Psalm 52-54

52 Why do you boast of your wickedness, O man of power? The lovingkindness of God endures daily.

Your tongue imagines mischief, like a sharp razor that cuts deceitfully.

You love evil more than good, lies more than to speak the truth. Selah.

You love all words that may destroy. O deceitful tongue!

So shall God destroy you forever. He shall take you and pluck you out of your tabernacle, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

Also, the righteous shall see it, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,

“Behold the man who did not take God for His strength but trusted in the multitude of his riches and put his strength in his malice.”

But I shall be like a green olive tree in the House of God. I trusted in the mercy of God forever and ever.

I will always praise You because You have done this. And I will hope in Your Name because it is good before Your saints. To him who excels on Mahalath: A Psalm of David to give instruction

53 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They have corrupted and done abominable wickedness. There is no one that does good.

God looked down from Heaven upon the children of men to see if there were any who would understand and seek God.

Everyone has gone back. They are altogether corrupt. There is no one who does good; no, not one.

Do not the workers of iniquity know that they eat up my people as they eat bread? They do not call upon God.

There they were in fear where no fear was. For God has scattered the bones of him who besieged you. You have put them to confusion because God has cast them off.

Oh, give salvation to Israel out of Zion! When God turns the captivity of His people, Jacob shall rejoice; and Israel shall be glad. To him who excels on Neginoth: A Psalm of David, to give instruction, when the Ziphims came and said to Saul, “Is not David hidden among us?”

54 Save me, O God, by Your Name; and by Your power, judge me.

O God, hear my prayer; hear the words of my mouth.

For strangers have risen up against me, and tyrants seek my soul. They have not set God before them. Selah.

Behold, God is my helper. The LORD is with those who uphold my soul.

He shall reward evil to my enemies. Oh, cut them off in Your truth!

I will sacrifice freely to You. I will praise Your Name, O LORD, because it is good.

For He has delivered me out of all trouble; and my eye has seen my desire upon my enemies. To him who excels on Neginoth: A Psalm of David, to give instruction
