1 Samuel 24

24 And David went from there and dwelt in strongholds at En Gedi.

When Saul had turned from the Philistines, they told him, saying, “Behold, David is in the wilderness of En Gedi.”

Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks among the wild goats.

And he came to the sheepfolds along the way, where there was a cave. And Saul went in to relieve himself. And David and his men sat in the inner parts of the cave.

And the men of David said to him, “Behold, the day has come of which the LORD said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’” Then David arose and stealthily cut off the lap of Saul’s garment.

And afterward, David was touched in his heart, because he had cut off the lap which was on Saul’s garment.

And he said to his men, “The LORD keep me from doing that thing to my master, the LORD’s anointed, to lay my hand upon him. For he is the anointed of the LORD.”

So David overcame his servants with these words and did not allow them to rise up against Saul. For Saul got up from the cave and went away.

Afterward, David also arose and went out of the cave and cried after Saul, saying, “O my lord the king!” And when Saul looked behind him, David turned his face to the ground and bowed himself.

10 And David said to Saul, “Why do you listen to men’s words who say, ‘Behold, David seeks evil against you’?

11 “Behold, your eyes have just seen that the LORD had delivered you this day into my hand in the cave. And some asked me to kill you. But I had compassion on you, and said, ‘I will not lay my hand on my master. For he is the LORD’s anointed.’

12 “Moreover, my father, behold. Behold, I say, the lap of your garment in my hand! For when I cut off the lap of your garment, I did not kill you. Understand and see that there is neither evil nor wickedness in me. Nor have I sinned against you. Yet you hunt after my soul to take it.

13 “The LORD be judge between you and me. And the LORD avenge me of you. But let not my hand be upon you.

14 “Just as the old proverb says, ‘Wickedness proceeds from the wicked, but my hand be not upon you.’

15 “After whom has the king of Israel come out? After whom do you pursue, after a dead dog, after a flea?

16 “The LORD, therefore, be judge, and judge between you and me, and see and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.”

17 When David had finished speaking these words to Saul, Saul said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” And Saul lifted up his voice and wept,

18 and said to David, “You are more righteous than I. For you have rendered me good and I have rendered you evil.

19 “And you have shown this day that you have dealt well with me. For when the LORD had closed me in your hands, you did not kill me.

20 “For who shall find his enemy and let him depart free? Therefore, may the LORD render you good for what you have done to me this day.

21 “For now, behold, I know that you shall be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand.

22 “Swear now, therefore, to me by the LORD that you will not destroy my seed after me, and that you will not abolish my name out of my father’s House.”

23 So David swore to Saul. And Saul went home. But David and his men went up to the stronghold.

1 Corinthians 5

It is heard certainly that there is sexual immorality among you - and such immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles - that one should have his father’s wife.

And you are puffed up, and moreover have not mourned, that the one who has done this deed might be taken from among you.

For indeed, I, as being absent in body, but present in spirit, have determined already, as though I were present, that the one who has thus done this thing,

when you are gathered together - and my spirit, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ - that such one, by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

be delivered to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord Jesus.

Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?

Therefore, purge the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover, is sacrificed for us.

Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor in the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

I wrote to you in the epistle that you should not associate with the sexually immoral,

10 (that is not to say with the sexually immoral of this world, or with the covetous, or with swindlers, or with idolaters. For then you must go out of the world).

11 But now I have written to you that you do not associate if anyone who is called a “brother” is a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a verbal abuser, or a drunkard, or a swindler. With such a one do not even eat.

12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside?

13 But God judges those who are outside. Therefore, cast out the wicked from among yourselves.

Ezekiel 3

Moreover, He said to me: “Son of man, eat what you find. Eat this scroll. And go, speak to the House of Israel.”

So I opened my mouth, and He gave me this scroll to eat.

And He said to me: “Son of man, cause your belly to eat, and fill your core with this scroll that I give you.” Then I ate. And it was as sweet as honey in my mouth.

And He said to me: “Son of man, go, enter into the House of Israel, and declare to them My Words.

“For you are not sent to a people of an unknown tongue, or of a hard language, but to the House of Israel,

“not to many people of an unknown tongue, or of a hard language, whose words you cannot understand. Yet, if I would send you to them, they would obey you.

“But, the House of Israel will not obey you. For they will not obey Me. Yea, all the House of Israel are impudent and stiff-hearted.

“Behold, I have made your face strong against their faces, and your forehead hard against their foreheads.

“I have made your forehead as a sharp stone, harder than the flint. Therefore, do not fear them or be afraid of their look. For they are a rebellious House.”

10 Moreover, He said to me: “Son of man, receive in your heart all My Words that I speak to you, and hear them with your ears.

11 “And go, get to those who are led away captives, to the children of your people. And speak to them and tell them, ‘Thus says the LORD God:’ Surely, they will not hear. Indeed, nor will they cease.”

12 Then the Spirit took me up, and I heard a noise of a great rushing behind me, saying, “Blessed be the Glory of the LORD out of His place.

13 I also heard the noise of the wings of the beasts that touched one another, and the rattling of the wheels that were beside them, a noise of a great rushing.

14 So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away. And I went in bitterness and indignation of my spirit. But the Hand of the LORD was strong upon me.

15 Then I came to those who were led away captives to Tel Abib, who dwelt by the river Chebar. And I sat where they sat, and remained there, astonished among them for seven days.

16 And at the end of seven days, the Word of the LORD came again to me, saying:

17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the House of Israel. Therefore, hear the Word in My Mouth, and give them warning from Me.

18 “When I shall say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you do not give him warning or speak to admonish the wicked of his wicked way, so that he may live, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.

19 “Yet, if you warn the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

20 “Likewise, if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, I will lay a stumbling block before him and he shall die. And because you have not given him warning, he shall die in his sin and his righteous deeds which he has done shall not be remembered. But his blood will I require at your hand.

21 “However, if you admonish the righteous man that the righteous does not sin (so that he does not sin), he shall live because he is admonished; and you have also delivered your soul.”

22 And the Hand of the LORD was there upon me. And He said to me: “Arise. Go into the field, and I will talk with you there.”

23 So when I had risen up and gone forth into the field, behold, the Glory of the LORD stood there, as the Glory which I saw by the river Chebar. And I fell down upon my face.

24 Then the Spirit entered into me and set me up upon my feet and spoke to me and said to me: “Come. Shut yourself inside your house.

25 “And you, O son of man, behold, they shall put ropes upon you and shall bind you with them. And you shall not go out among them.

26 “And I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be dumb, and shall not be to them as a man who rebukes. For they are a rebellious House.

27 “But when I have spoken to you, I will open your mouth. And you shall say to them: ‘Thus says the LORD God.’ He who hears, let him hear. And he who refuses, let him refuse. For they are a rebellious House.”

Psalm 39

39 I thought, “I will guard my ways, so that I do not sin with my tongue. I will keep my mouth bridled while the wicked are in my sight.

I was dumb and spoke nothing. I kept silent, even from good; and my sorrow was more stirred.

My heart was hot within me. While I was musing, the fire kindled and I spoke with my tongue:

“LORD, let me know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is. Let me know how long I have to live.”

Behold, You have made my days as a handbreadth and my age as nothing in Your sight. Surely, every man is altogether vanity in his best state. Selah.

Doubtless, man walks in a shadow, and disquiets himself pointlessly. He heaps up riches and cannot tell who shall gather them.

And now LORD, for what do I wait? My hope is even in You.

Deliver me from all my transgressions, and do not make me a rebuke to the foolish.

I should have been dumb, and not have opened my mouth, because You did it.

10 Take Your plague away from me; for I am consumed by the stroke of Your hand.

11 When, with rebukes, You chastise man for iniquity, You make his beauty melt away as a moth. Surely, every man is vanity. Selah.

12 Hear my prayer, O LORD; and hear my cry. Do not keep silent at my tears; for I am a stranger with You and a sojourner, as all my fathers.

13 Keep Your anger from me, so that I may recover my strength before I go away and am no more. To him who excels: A Psalm of David.
