M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
18 And when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David. And Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2 And Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father’s house.
3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant; for he loved him as his own soul.
4 And Jonathan took off the robe that was upon him and gave it to David, and his garments, including his sword and his bow and his belt.
5 And David went out wherever Saul sent him, conducting himself wisely, so that Saul set him over the men of war. And he was accepted in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
6 When they came back, and David returned from the slaughter of the Philistines, the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing to meet King Saul with tambourines, with joy, and with musical instruments.
7 And the women sang as they played, and said, “Saul has killed his thousand, and David his ten thousand!”
8 Therefore, Saul was exceedingly angry; and the saying displeased him. And he said, “They have ascribed ten thousand to David. And they have ascribed a thousand to me. And what more can he have except the kingdom?”
9 Therefore, Saul had an eye on David from that day forward.
10 And the next day, the spirit of misery from God came upon Saul. And he prophesied in the midst of the house. And David played with his hand, just as at other times. And there was a spear in Saul’s hand.
11 And Saul took the spear, and said, “I will strike David through, to the wall.” But David escaped from his presence twice.
12 And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him and had departed from Saul.
13 Therefore, Saul removed him from his presence and made him a captain over a thousand. And he went out and in before the people.
14 And David conducted himself wisely in all his ways, for the LORD was with him.
15 Therefore, when Saul saw that he was very wise, he was afraid of him.
16 For all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and in before them.
17 Then Saul said to David, “Behold, my eldest daughter, Merab, I will give her to you as a wife. Only, be a valiant son to me and fight the LORD’s battles.” For Saul thought, “My hand shall not be upon him, but the hand of the Philistines shall be upon him.”
18 And David answered Saul, “Who am I? And what is my life, or the family of my father in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?”
19 But it happened at that time, when Merab, Saul’s daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel, a Meholathite, as a wife.
20 Then Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved David. And they told Saul; and the thing pleased him.
21 Therefore, Saul said, “I will give her to him, so that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” Therefore, Saul said to David, “You shall, this day, be my son-in-law for a second time.”
22 And Saul commanded his servants, “Speak with David secretly, and say, ‘Behold, the king favors you; and all his servants love you. Be now, therefore, the king’s son-in-law.’”
23 And Saul’s servants spoke these words in the ears of David. And David said, “Does it seem a light thing to you to be a king’s son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man and of small reputation?”
24 And then Saul’s servants brought him word back, saying, “David spoke such words.”
25 And Saul said, “Thus you shall say to David: ‘The king desires no dowry, but a hundred foreskins of the Philistines to be avenged of the king’s enemies.’” For Saul thought to make David fall into the hands of the Philistines.
26 And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son-in-law. And before the days had expired,
27 David arose with his men and went and killed two hundred men of the Philistines. And David brought their foreskins; and they gave them wholly to the king, so that he might be the king’s son-in-law. Therefore, Saul gave him Michal, his daughter, as a wife.
28 Then Saul saw and understood that the LORD was with David, and that Michal, the daughter of Saul, loved him.
29 Then Saul was more and more afraid of David. And Saul became David’s continual enemy.
30 And when the princes of the Philistines went forth, at their going forth David conducted himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul, so that his name was highly esteemed.
16 I commend to you Phoebe, our sister, who is a servant of the Church of Cenchrea;
2 that you receive her in the Lord (as it becomes Saints) and that you assist her in whatever matter she has need of you. For she has given hospitality to many, and to me also.
3 Greet Priscilla, and Aquila, my fellow helpers in Christ Jesus.
4 (who have laid down their own neck for my life; unto whom not I only give thanks, but also all the Churches of the Gentiles.)
5 Likewise, greet the Church that is in their house. Salute my beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia in Christ.
6 Greet Mary, who has worked hard for us.
7 Salute Andronicus and Junia, my cousins and fellow prisoners, who are notable among the Apostles, and were in Christ before me.
8 Greet Amplias, my beloved in the Lord.
9 Salute Urbanus, our fellow helper in Christ; and Stachys, my beloved.
10 Salute Apelles, approved in Christ. Salute those who are Aristobulus’ friends.
11 Salute Herodion, my kinsman. Greet those friends of Narcissus who are in the Lord.
12 Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, women who labor in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis, a woman who works hard in the Lord.
13 Salute Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother. And mine.
14 Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Mercurius, and the brothers who are with them.
15 Salute Philologus and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the Saints who are with them.
16 Salute one another with a holy kiss. The Churches of Christ salute you.
17 Now I urge you, brothers, mark carefully those who cause division and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned and avoid them.
18 For such as they do not serve the Lord Jesus Christ, but their own bellies; and deceive the hearts of the simple with fair speech and flattering.
19 For your obedience has spread among all. Therefore, I am glad for you. But yet, I wish you to be wise to that which is good, and simple concerning evil.
20 The God of peace shall tread Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
21 Timothy, my helper, and Lucius and Jason, and Sosipater, my kinsmen, salute you.
22 I Tertius, who wrote out this Epistle, salute you in the Lord.
23 Gaius, my host, and of the whole Church, salutes you. Erastus, the steward of the city, salutes you; and Quartus, a brother.
24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all, Amen.
25 Now, to Him Who is able to establish you according to my Gospel (and to the preaching of Jesus Christ) by the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret since the world began
26 (but now, at the Commandment of the everlasting God, is made visible and known among all nations by the Scriptures of the Prophets, for the obedience of faith);
27 to God, only wise, be praise, through Jesus Christ, forever. Amen.
(Written to the Romans from Corinth, and sent by Phoebe, servant of the church which is at Cenchrea.)
3 I am the man who has seen affliction in the rod of His indignation.
2 He has led me, and brought me into darkness, but not to light.
3 Surely, He has turned against me; His Hand overturns me all day long.
4 He has caused my flesh and my skin to grow old. He has broken my bones.
5 He has built against me and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship.
6 He has set me in dark places, as those who are dead forever.
7 He has put a hedge around me, so that I cannot get out. He has made my chains heavy.
8 Also, when I cry and shout, He shuts out my prayer.
9 He has blocked my way with hewn stone, turned away my paths.
10 He was, to me, like a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.
11 He has blocked my way and torn me in pieces. He has made me desolate.
12 He has bent His bow and made me a mark for the arrow.
13 He caused the arrows of His quiver to enter into my core.
14 I was a laughingstock to all my people, their song all day long.
15 He has filled me with bitterness, made me drunk with wormwood.
16 He has also broken my teeth with gravel and covered me with ashes.
17 Thus, my soul was far away from peace. I forgot what is good.
18 And I said, “My strength and my hope have perished from the LORD.”
19 Remember my affliction and my mourning, the wormwood and the bitterness.
20 My soul has remembered them and is humbled in me.
21 I consider this in my heart; therefore, I have hope.
22 It is because of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed. His compassions do not fail.
23 They are renewed every morning. Great is Your faithfulness!
24 “The LORD is my portion;” says my soul, “therefore, I will hope in Him!”
25 The LORD is good to those who trust in Him, to the soul that seeks Him.
26 It is good to wait, watchfully yet silently, for the salvation of the LORD.
27 It is good for a man that he bears the yoke in his youth.
28 He sits alone and keeps silent because he has borne it upon him.
29 Let him put his mouth in the dust. Perhaps there may be hope.
30 He gives his cheek to him who strikes him. He is fully filled with reproach.
31 For the LORD will not forsake forever.
32 But though He sends affliction, He will still have compassion, according to the multitude of His mercies.
33 For He does not afflict willingly or grieve the children of men.
34 To stamp under His feet all the prisoners of the Earth,
35 to divert the rights of a man before the Face of the Most High,
36 to subvert a man in his cause, the LORD does not approve.
37 Who is he, then, who speaks and it happens, if the LORD has not Commanded it?
38 Does not both misery and prosperity proceed out of the Mouth of the Most High?
39 Why, then, does a man, living and mighty, complain about the penalty for his sins?
40 Let us search and test our ways and turn back to the LORD.
41 Let us lift up our hearts with our hands to God in the heavens.
42 We have sinned and have rebelled. You have not spared.
43 You have covered us with wrath, and persecuted us. You have killed, not spared.
44 You have covered Yourself with a cloud, so that prayer would not pass through.
45 You have made us offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.
46 All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.
47 Fear and a snare have come upon us, desolation and destruction.
48 My eyes run down with rivers of water for the destruction of the Daughter of my people.
49 My eyes run down without pause, and will not cease
50 until the LORD looks down and beholds from Heaven.
51 My eyes break my heart, because of all the daughters of my city.
52 My enemies hunted me like a bird, without cause.
53 They have shut up my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me.
54 Waters flowed over my head. I thought, “I am destroyed.”
55 I called upon Your Name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.
56 You have heard my voice. Do not hide Your Ear from my sigh, from my cry.
57 You drew near on the day that I called upon You. You said: “Do not fear.”
58 O LORD, You have maintained the cause of my soul, have redeemed my life.
59 O LORD, You have seen my wrong. Judge my cause.
60 You have seen all their vengeance, all their devices against me:
61 You have heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me,
62 the lips of those who rose against me, and their continual whispering against me.
63 Behold their sitting down and their rising up. I am their song.
64 Give them recompense, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.
65 Give them sorrow of heart. Your curse be upon them!
66 Persecute with wrath and destroy them from under the heavens, O LORD.
34 I will always give thanks to the LORD. His praise shall be in my mouth continually.
2 My soul shall glory in the LORD. The humble shall hear it and be glad.
3 Praise the LORD with me; and let us magnify His Name together.
4 I sought the LORD, and He heard me. Indeed, He delivered me out of all my fear.
5 They shall look to Him and run; and their faces shall not be ashamed.
6 This poor man cried; and the LORD heard and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The Angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them.
8 Taste and see how gracious the LORD is. Blessed is the man who trusts in Him.
9 Fear the LORD, you, His saints. For those who fear Him lack nothing.
10 The lions lack and suffer hunger. But those who seek the LORD shall lack nothing that is good.
11 Come children, hear me. I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 What man is he who desires life and loves long days to see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips, so that they speak no deceit.
14 Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and follow after it.
15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous; and His ears are open to their cry.
16 The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off their remembrance from the Earth.
17 The righteous cry and the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.
18 The LORD is near to those who are of a contrite heart; and will save such as are afflicted in spirit.
19 Great are the troubles of the righteous. But the LORD delivers him out of them all.
20 He keeps all His bones. Not one of them is broken.
21 Malice shall slay the wicked; and those who hate the righteous shall perish.
22 The LORD redeems the souls of His servants; and no one who trusts in Him shall perish. A Psalm of David.
