M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
9 There was now a man of Benjamin, mighty in power, named Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a man of Benjamin.
2 And he had a son called Saul, a fine young man and handsome, so that among the children of Israel there was none better than he. From the shoulders upward, he was higher than any of the people.
3 Now, the donkeys of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. Therefore, Kish said to Saul, his son, “Take now one of the servants with you and arise, go and seek the donkeys.
4 So, he passed through Mount Ephraim, and went through the land of Shalisha, but they did not find them. Then they went through the land of Shaalim; and they were not there. He also went through the land of Benjamin, but they did not find them.
5 When they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, “Come and let us return, lest my father leaves the donkeys and becomes worried about us.”
6 And he said to him, “Behold, now, in this city is a man of God. And he is an honorable man. All that he says comes to pass. Let us now go there, if so be that he can show us what way we may go.”
7 Then Saul said to his servant, “Well then, let us go! But what shall we bring to the man? For the bread in our vessels is gone, and there is no present to bring to the man of God. What do we have?”
8 And the servant answered Saul again, and said, “Behold, I have found a fourth of a shekel of silver lying around. I will give that to the man of God, to tell us our way.”
9 (In the old time in Israel, when a man went to seek an answer from God, he said, “Come and let us go to the Seer.” For he who is now called a Prophet was in the old time called a Seer.)
10 Then Saul said to his servant, “Well said! Come, let us go.” So they went into the city where the man of God was.
11 And as they were going up the highway to the city, they found maids who came out to draw water, and said to them, “Is there a Seer here?”
12 And they answered them, and said, “Yea, lo, he is before you. Hurry now, for he came this day to the city. For there is an Offering of the people this day in the high place.
13 “When you shall come into the city, you shall find him immediately, before he comes up to the high place to eat. For the people will not eat until he comes, because he will bless the Sacrifice. And then those who are invited to the feast may eat. Now, therefore, go up. For you shall find him now.”
14 Then they went up into the city. And when they had come into the midst of the city, Samuel came out opposite them, to go up to the high place.
15 But the LORD had revealed to Samuel secretly (a day before Saul came) saying,
16 “Tomorrow, about this time, I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin. You shall anoint him to be Governor over My people, Israel, so that he may save My people out of the hands of the Philistines. For I have looked upon My people and their cry has come to Me.”
17 Therefore, when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD answered him, “See, this is the man of whom I spoke to you. He shall rule My people.”
18 Then Saul went to Samuel in the midst of the gate, and said, “Tell me, please, where the Seer’s house is.”
19 And Samuel answered Saul, and said, “I am the Seer. Go up before me to the high place; for you shall eat with me today and tomorrow I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart.
20 “And as for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not worry about them, for they have been found. And on whom is set all the desire of Israel? Is it not upon you, and on all your father’s House?”
21 But Saul answered, and said, “Am I not the son of Benjamin, of the smallest tribe of Israel, and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why, then, do you speak so to me?”
22 And Samuel took Saul and his servant and brought them into the chamber, and made them sit in the chief place among those who were invited (which was about thirty people).
23 And Samuel said to the cook, “Bring forth the portion which I gave you, of which I said to you, “Keep it with you.”
24 And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, “Behold that which remains, set apart for you! Eat! For up to now it has been kept for you, since I said, “I have called the people!” So, Saul ate with Samuel that day.
25 And when they had come down from the high place into the city, he spoke with Saul upon the top of the house.
26 And when they arose early, about the dawn of the day, Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, “Up, so that I may send you away!” And Saul arose. And they went out, both he and Samuel.
27 And when they had come down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, “Bid the servant go before us,” (and he went) “But you stand still now, so that I may show you the Word of God.”
7 Do you not know, brothers, (for I speak to those who know the Law) that the Law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives?
2 For the woman who is in subjection to a man, is bound by the Law to the man, while he lives. But if the man is dead, she is released from the Law of the man.
3 So then, if while the man lives, she takes another man, she shall be called an adulteress. But, if the man is dead, she is free from the Law; so that she is not an adulteress, even though she takes another man.
4 So you, my brothers, are also dead to the Law, by the body of Christ; so that you should belong to Another (that is, to Him Who was raised up from the dead) so that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the sufferings of sins (which were by the Law) were at work in our limbs, bringing forth fruit unto death.
6 But now, we are delivered from the Law (that being dead in which we were held), so that we should serve in newness of Spirit, and not in the oldness of letter.
7 What shall we then say? Is the Law sin? Absolutely not! No, I did not know sin, except through the Law. For I had not known lust until the Law had said, “You shall not lust”.
8 But sin, taking opportunity through the Commandment, wrought in me all manner of lusts. For without the Law, sin is dead.
9 For I was once alive apart from the Law. But when the Commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
10 And this Commandment, which was life to me, was found to be death.
11 For sin, taking opportunity through the Commandment, deceived me; and thereby killed me.
12 Therefore, the Law is holy. And the Commandment is holy, and just, and good.
13 Was, then, that which is good made death to me? Absolutely not! But sin, so that it might appear sin, wrought death in me by that which is good, so that sin (through the Commandment) might be excessively sinful.
14 For we know that the Law is spiritual. But I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For I do not understand that which I do. For what I will to do, that do I not do. But what I hate, that I do.
16 If, then, I do that which I do not want to do, I consent to the Law, that it is good.
17 So, then, it is no more me who does it, but sin which dwells in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) no good thing dwells. For to will is present with me. But I find no means to perform that which is good.
19 For I do not do the good thing which I want to do. But the evil, which I do not want to do, that I do.
20 Now, if I do that which I do not want, it is no more I who do it, but the sin which dwells in me.
21 I find, therefore, a law that when I would like to do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the Law of God, concerning the inner man.
23 But I see another law in my limbs, rebelling against the law of my mind, and leading me captive to the law of sin, which is in my limbs.
24 O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I, myself, serve the Law of God in my mind, but the law of sin in my flesh.
46 The Words of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the Prophet against the Gentiles,
2 against Egypt, and against the army of Pharaoh Necho, king of Egypt, (which was by the river Perath in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babel struck in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah),
3 “Make ready buckler and shield and go forth to battle!
4 “Make ready the horses, and let the horsemen get up. And stand up with helmets, furbish the spears, and put on the armor!
5 “Why have I seen them afraid and driven back? For their mighty men are stricken and have fled away and do not look back, fear all around,” says the LORD.
6 “The swift shall not flee away, nor the strong man escape. They shall stumble and fall toward the north, by the river Perath.
7 “Who is this who comes up as the Nile, whose waters are moved like the rivers?
8 “Egypt rises up like the Nile. And its waters are moved like the rivers. And it says, ‘I will go up, and will cover the Earth! I will destroy the city and those who dwell in it!’
9 “Come up, you horses. And rage, you chariots. And let the valiant men come forth: the Ethiopians, and the Libyans who bear the shield, and the Lydians who handle and bend the bow.
10 “For this is the day of the LORD God of Hosts, a day of vengeance, so that He may avenge Himself of His enemies. For the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiated and made drunk with their blood. For the LORD God of Hosts has a sacrifice in the north country, by the river Perath.
11 “Go up to Gilead and fetch balm. O Virgin, the daughter of Egypt, in vain you shall use many medicines. You shall not have health.
12 “The nations have heard of your shame, and your cry has filled the land. For the strong have stumbled against the strong. They have both fallen together.”
13 The Word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the Prophet of how Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babel, would come and strike the land of Egypt:
14 “Proclaim in Egypt, and declare in Migdol, and proclaim in Noph, and in Tahpanhes, and say, ‘Stand still and prepare yourselves! For the sword shall devour all around you!’
15 “Why are your valiant men beaten down? They could not stand because the LORD thrust them away.
16 “He made many fall. And one fell upon another, and they said, ‘Arise, let us turn back from the sword of the violent, to our own people and to the land of our birth.’
17 “They cried there, ‘Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is but a noise! He has passed the appointed time!’
18 “As I live,” says the King Whose Name is the LORD of Hosts, “surely as Tabor in the mountains, and as Carmel in the sea, it shall come.
19 “O you daughter dwelling in Egypt, make yourself gear to go into captivity! For Noph shall be waste and desolate, without an inhabitant.
20 “Egypt is like a fair calf, but destruction comes. Out of the North it comes.
21 “Also, her hired men, in the midst of her like fat calves, they are also turned back and have fled away together. They could not stand, because the day of their destruction had come upon them, the time of their reckoning.
22 “Its voice shall go forth like a serpent. For they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as woodcutters.
23 “They shall cut down her forest,” says the LORD, “for they cannot be counted, because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.
24 “The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded. She shall be delivered into the hands of the people of the North.”
25 Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: “Behold, I will visit your common people of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods and their kings, even Pharaoh, and all those who trust in him.
26 “And I will deliver them into the hands of those who seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babel, and into the hands of his servants. And afterward, she shall dwell as in the old time,” says the LORD.
27 “But do not fear, O my servant Jacob. And do not be afraid, O Israel. For behold, I will deliver you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity. And Jacob shall return and be in rest and prosperity. And no one shall make him afraid.
28 “Do not fear, O Jacob, My servant,” says the LORD, “for I am with you. And I will utterly destroy all the nations to which I have driven you. Yet I will not utterly destroy you, but correct you by judgment, and not utterly cut you off.”
22 My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me; are so far from My health and from the words of My roaring?
2 O, My God, I cry by day, but You do not hear; and by night but have no audience.
3 But You are Holy and inhabit the praises of Israel.
4 Our fathers trusted in You. They trusted, and You delivered them.
5 They called upon You and were delivered. They trusted in You and were not confounded.
6 But I am a worm, and not a man, a shame of men and the contempt of the people.
7 All those who see Me, hold Me in derision. They shoot out the lip and nod the head, saying,
8 “He trusted in the LORD. Let Him deliver Him. Let Him save Him, seeing He loves Him.”
9 But You drew Me out of the womb. You gave Me hope, even at My mother’s breasts.
10 I was cast upon You, even from the womb. You are My God, from My mother’s belly.
11 Be not far from Me, because trouble is near. For there is no one to help.
12 Many young bulls have surrounded Me. Mighty bulls of Bashan have encircled Me.
13 They gape upon Me with their mouths, a ramping and roaring lion.
14 I am like water poured out; and all My bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax. It is molten in the midst of My core.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and My tongue clings to My jaws; and You have brought Me into the dust of death.
16 For dogs have surrounded Me; the assembly of the wicked have encircled Me. They pierced My hands and My feet.
17 I count all My bones. They behold and look upon Me.
18 They part My garments among them and cast lots upon My clothing.
19 But be not afar off, O LORD, My strength. Hasten to help Me.
20 Deliver My soul from the sword, my desolate soul from the power of the dog.
21 Save Me from the lion’s mouth; and answer Me in saving Me from the horns of the unicorns.
22 I will declare Your Name to My brothers. In the midst of the Congregation will I praise You.
23 Praise the LORD, you who fear Him! Magnify Him, all the seed of Jacob; and fear Him, all the seed of Israel!
24 For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the poor. Nor has He hidden His face from Him, but when He called to Him, He heard.
25 My praise shall be of You in the great Congregation. I will perform My vows before those who fear Him.
26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied. Those who seek after the LORD shall praise Him. Your heart shall live forever.
27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the LORD; and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before You.
28 For the Kingdom is the LORD’s; and He rules among the nations.
29 All those who are fat on the Earth shall eat and worship. All those who go down into the dust shall bow before Him, even him who cannot quicken his own soul.
30 Their seed shall serve Him. It shall be counted to the LORD for a generation.
31 They shall come and shall declare His righteousness to a people who shall be born, because He has done it. A Psalm of David.
