2 And Hannah prayed, and said, “My heart rejoices in the LORD. My horn is exalted in the LORD. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies because I rejoice in Your salvation.
2 “There is none as Holy as the LORD. Yea, there is none besides You; and there is no god like our God.
3 “No longer speak so exceedingly proudly. Do let not arrogancy come out of your mouth. For the LORD is a God of knowledge; and by Him enterprises are established.
4 “The bow and the mighty men are broken; and the weak have girded themselves with strength.
5 “Those who were full are now hired for bread, yet the hungry are no more. Even the barren has borne seven; and she who had many children is now feeble.
6 “The LORD kills and makes alive, brings down to the grave and raises up.
7 “The LORD makes poor and makes rich, brings low and exalts.
8 “He raises up the poor from the dust and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill, to set among princes and to make them inherit the seat of glory. For the pillars of the Earth are the LORD’s, and he has set the world upon them.
9 “He will keep the feet of His saints; and the wicked shall keep silence in darkness. For in might shall no man be strong.
10 “The LORD’s adversaries shall be destroyed, and out of Heaven shall He thunder upon them. The LORD shall judge the ends of the world, and shall give power to His King, and exalt the horn of His Anointed.”
11 And Elkanah went to Ramah, to his house, and the child ministered to the LORD before Eli the Priest.
12 Now the sons of Eli were wicked men and did not know the LORD.
13 For the Priests’ custom toward the people was this: when any man offered sacrifice, the Priest’s boy came with a three-toothed fleshhook in his hand while the flesh was boiling,
14 and thrust it into the kettle or into the caldron or into the pan, or into the pot. All that the fleshhook would bring up the Priest took for himself. Thus they did to all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.
15 Yea, before they burnt the fat, the Priest’s boy came and said to the man who offered, “Give me flesh to roast for the Priest. For he will not have boiled flesh from you, but raw.”
16 And if any man said to him, “Let them burn the fat according to the custom, then take as much as your heart desires,” then he would answer, “No, but you shall give it now. And if you will not, I will take it by force.”
17 Therefore, the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD; for men abhorred the Offering of the LORD.
18 Now Samuel, being a young child, ministered before the LORD girded with a linen ephod.
19 And his mother made him a little coat and brought it to him from year to year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, “The LORD give you seed of this woman for the petition that she asked of the LORD.” And they departed to their place.
21 And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. And the child, Samuel, grew before the LORD.
22 So, Eli was very old and heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who assembled at the Door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.
23 And he said to them, “Why do you do such things? For I hear evil reports of you from all the people.
24 “Do no more, my sons. For it is not a good report that I hear, that you make the LORD’s people trespass.
25 “If one man sins against another, the Judge shall judge it. But if a man sins against the LORD, who will plead for him?” Nevertheless they did not obey the voice of their father; because the LORD wanted to kill them.
26 Now the child, Samuel, profited and grew and was in favor, both with the LORD and also with men.
27 And there came a man of God to Eli, and said to him, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Did not I plainly appear to the House of your [v]father when they were in Egypt, in Pharaoh’s house?
28 ‘And I chose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be My Priest, to offer upon My Altar, and to burn incense, and to wear an ephod before Me? And I gave to the House of your father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel.
29 ‘Why have you kicked against My Sacrifice and My Offering which I Commanded in My Tabernacle, and honor your children above Me, to make yourselves fat from the firstfruits of all the Offerings of Israel My people?’
30 “Therefore the LORD God of Israel says: ‘I said that your House, and the House of your father, should walk before Me, forever.’ But now, the LORD says: ‘It shall not be so. For those who honor Me, I will honor. And those who despise Me, shall be despised.
31 ‘Behold, the days come that I will cut off your arm, and the arm of your father’s House, so that there shall not be an old man in your House.
32 ‘And you shall see your enemy in the habitation of the LORD, in all things with which God shall bless Israel. And there shall not be an old man in your House, forever.
33 ‘Nevertheless, I will not destroy every one of yours from My Altar, to make your eyes fail and to make your heart sorrowful. And all the multitude of your House shall die men.
34 ‘And this shall be a sign to you, that shall come upon your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas. In one day, they shall both die.
35 ‘And I will stir up a faithful Priest, who shall do according to My Heart, and according to My Mind. And I will build him a sure House. And he shall walk before My anointed, forever.
36 ‘And all who are left in your House, shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, “Please appoint me to one of the priest’s offices, so that I may eat a morsel of bread.”’”
2 Therefore, you are without excuse, O man. Whoever you are who judges! For in whatever you judge another, you judge yourself. For you who judge do the same things.
2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth, against those who commit such things.
3 And do you think, O man - who judges those who do such things and yet does the same - that you shall escape the judgment of God?
4 Or do you think so little of the riches of His bountifulness and patience and long suffering, not knowing that the bountifulness of God leads you to repentance?
5 But you, because of your hardness and unrepentant heart, are laying up a treasure of wrath for yourself on the Day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God,
6 Who will reward everyone according to his works
7 (indeed, everlasting life to those who, through patience in well-doing, seek glory and honor and immortality,
8 but to those who are contentious and disobey the truth and obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath).
9 Tribulation and anguish shall be upon the soul of every man who does evil –the Jew first and also the Greek.
10 But glory and honor and peace shall be to everyone who does good - to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
11 For there is no partiality with God.
12 For as many as have sinned without the Law, shall also perish without the Law. And as many as have sinned in the Law, shall be judged by the Law,
13 (For the hearers of the Law are not righteous before God. But the doers of the Law shall be justified.
14 For when the Gentiles, who do not have the Law, instinctively do the things contained in the Law, then they - not having the Law - are a Law unto themselves,
15 who show the effect of the Law written on their hearts; their conscience also bearing witness and their thoughts accusing one another, or excusing)
16 on the day when God shall judge the secrets of man by Jesus Christ, according to my Gospel.
17 Behold, you are called a Jew, and rest in the Law, and glory in God.
18 And you know His will, and test the things which dissent from it, being instructed by the Law.
19 And you persuade yourself that you are a guide of the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,
20 an instructor of those who lack discretion; a teacher of the unlearned, who has the semblance of knowledge and truth in the Law.
21 You therefore, who teaches another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
22 You who say a man should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you commit sacrilege?
23 You who glory in the Law, through breaking the Law, do you dishonor God?
24 For “the Name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you”, as it is written.
25 For circumcision is indeed profitable if you keep the Law. But if you are a transgressor of the Law, your circumcision is made uncircumcision.
26 Therefore, if the uncircumcised keep the ordinances of the Law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision?
27 And shall not the naturally uncircumcised (if he keeps the Law) condemn those who, being under the letter and circumcision, are transgressors of the Law?
28 For no one is a Jew outwardly. Nor is circumcision outward, in the flesh.
29 But he is a Jew who is one within. And circumcision is of the heart, in the spirit (not in the letter) whose praise is not from man, but from God.
40 The Word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD after Nebuzaradan, the chief steward, had let him go from Ramah when he had taken him, bound in chains, among all who were carried away captive from Jerusalem and Judah, and were carried away captive to Babel.
2 And the chief steward took Jeremiah and said to him, “The LORD your God has pronounced this plague upon this place.
3 “Now the LORD has brought it and done as He has said. Because you have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed His Voice, therefore this thing has come upon you.
4 “And now, behold, I free you this day from the chains which were on your hands. If it pleases you to come with me to Babel, come. And I will look after you well. But if it pleases you not to come with me to Babel, stay here. Behold, all the land is before you. Wherever it seems good and convenient for you to go, go there.”
5 Still, Jeremiah did not return. Therefore, the chief steward said, “Return to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babel has made governor over all the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people. Or go wherever it pleases you to go.” So, the chief steward gave him rations and a reward and let him go.
6 Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, to Mizpah and dwelt there with him among the people who were left in the land.
7 Now when all the captains of the army who were in the fields, both they and their men, heard that the king of Babel had made Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, governor in the land, and that he had committed to him men and women and children and of the poor of the land who were not carried away captive to Babel,
8 then they came to Gedaliah, to Mizpah—Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, Johanan, Jonathan, the sons of Kareah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of Maachathi—both they and their men.
9 And Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, swore to them and to their men, saying, “Do not fear to serve the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land and serve the king of Babel, and it shall be well with you.
10 “As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to serve the Chaldeans who will come to us. But you, gather wine and summer fruits and oil and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.”
11 Likewise, when all the Jews who were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babel had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,
12 then all the Jews returned from all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered much wine and summer fruits.
13 Moreover, Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the army who were in the fields, came to Gedaliah, to Mizpah,
14 and said to him, “Do you not know that Baalis, the king of the Ammonites, has sent Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, to kill you?” But Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, did not believe them.
15 Then Johanan, the son of Kareah, spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, “Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah. And no one shall know it. Why should he kill you, so that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?”
16 But Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, said to Johanan, the son of Kareah, “You shall not do this thing. For you speak falsely about Ishmael.”
15 LORD, who shall dwell in Your Tabernacle? Who shall rest on Your Holy Mountain?
2 He who walks uprightly and works righteousness and speaks the truth in his heart;
3 he who does not slander with his tongue, nor do evil to his neighbor, nor receive a false report against his neighbor;
4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised; but honors those who fear the LORD. He who swears to his own injury yet does not change.
5 He who does not give his money to usury, nor takes reward against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved. Michtam of David.
16 Preserve me, O God. For in You do I trust.
2 O my soul, you have said to the LORD, “You are my LORD. My goodness is not, but for You.”
3 To the saints who are on the Earth, and to the excellent, all my delight is in them.
4 The sorrows of those who offer to another god shall be multiplied. Their offerings of blood I will not offer; nor make mention of their names with my lips.
5 The LORD is the portion of my inheritance, and of my cup. You shall maintain my lot.
6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Indeed, I have a fair heritage.
7 I will praise the LORD Who has given me counsel. My core also teaches me in the nights.
8 I have set the LORD always before me. For He is at my right hand. Therefore, I shall not slide.
9 Therefore, my heart is glad. And my tongue rejoices. My flesh, also, rests in hope.
10 For You will not leave my soul in the grave. Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
11 You will show me the path of life. In Your presence is the fullness of joy. And at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore. The prayer of David.
