M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
3 Afterward, Naomi, her mother-in-law, said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek rest for you; so that you may prosper?
2 “Now, is Boaz (with whose maids you were) not also our kinsman? Behold, he winnows barley tonight in the floor.
3 “Therefore, wash yourself and anoint yourself and put your clothes on and get down to the floor. Do not let the man know of you until he has finished eating and drinking.
4 “And when he falls asleep, mark the place where he lays down; and go and uncover the place of his feet and lay down there. And he shall tell you what you shall do.”
5 And she answered her, “All that you ask of me, I will do.”
6 So she went down to the floor and did according to all that her mother-in-law asked of her.
7 And when Boaz had finished eating and drinking, and cheered his heart, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn. And she came, softly, and uncovered the place of his feet and lay down.
8 And at midnight, the man was afraid and woke up. And lo, a woman lay at his feet.
9 Then he said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your handmaid. Spread the wing of your garment over your handmaid. For you are the kinsman.”
10 Then he said, “May you be blessed by the LORD, my daughter. For you have shown more goodness in the end than at the beginning. Inasmuch as you did not follow young men, were they poor or rich.”
11 “And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do to you all that you require. For all the city of my people knows that you are a virtuous woman.
12 “And now, it is true that I am your kinsman. Although, there is a kinsman nearer than me.
13 “Stay here tonight. And when morning has come, if he will do the duty of a kinsman to you, well, let him do the kinsman’s duty. But if he will not do the kinsman’s part, then will I do the duty of a kinsman, as the LORD lives. Sleep until the morning.”
14 And she lay at his feet until the morning. And she arose before dawn. For he said, “Let no man know that a woman came into the floor.”
15 Also, he said, “Bring the cloak that you have on and hold it.” And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley and laid them on her. And she went into the city.
16 And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “What happened, my daughter?” And she told her all that the man had done to her, and said, “He gave me these six measures of barley. For he said to me, ‘You shall not come empty to your mother-in-law.’”
17 Then she said, “My daughter, sit still until you know how things will go; for the man will not rest until he has finished the matter this same day.”
4 Then Boaz went up to the gate and sat there. And behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz had spoken came by. And he said, “Ho, such one! Come, sit down here.” And he turned and sat down.
2 Then he took ten men from the elders of the city, and said, “Sit down here.” And they sat down.
3 And he said to the kinsman, “Naomi, who has returned from the country of Moab, wishes to sell a parcel of land which was our brother Elimelech’s.
4 “And I thought to tell you, saying, ‘Buy it’, before the inhabitants and before the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it. But if you will not redeem it, tell me. For I know that there is no one besides you to redeem it. And I am after you.” Then he answered, “I will redeem it.”
5 Then Boaz said, “Whatever day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also buy the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.”
6 And the kinsman answered, “I cannot redeem it; lest I destroy my own inheritance. I give my right to you, for I cannot redeem it.”
7 Now this was the custom in ancient Israel concerning redeeming, changing and establishing all things: a man took off his shoe and gave it to his neighbor. And this was a sure witness in Israel.
8 Therefore, the kinsman said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” And he took off his shoe.
9 And Boaz said to the elders and to all the people, “You are witnesses today, that I have bought from Naomi all that was Elimelech’s and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s.
10 “And moreover, I have bought Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, to be my wife, to stir up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, so that the name of the dead is not forgotten from among his brothers and from the gate of his place. You are witnesses today.”
11 And all the people who were in the gate, and the elders, said, “We are witnesses. The LORD make the wife who comes into your house like Rachel and like Leah, who between them built the house of Israel. So that you may do worthily in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem,
12 “and that your house be like the house of Perez (whom Tamar bore to Judah from the seed which the LORD shall give you from this young woman).”
13 So Boaz took Ruth; and she was his wife. And when he went into her, the LORD gave, so that she conceived and bore a son.
14 And the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the LORD, Who has not left you without a kinsman today. And His name shall be continued in Israel.
15 And this shall restore your life and nourish your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you, has borne him. And she is better to you than seven sons.”
16 And Naomi took the child and laid it in her lap and became nurse to it.
17 And the women, her neighbors, gave it a name, saying, “There is a child born to Naomi.” And they called his name “Obed”. The same was the father of Jesse, the father of David.
18 These now are the generations of Perez: Perez begat Hezron,
19 and Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,
20 and Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,
21 and Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,
22 and Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
28 And when they had escaped, they learned that the isle was called Malta.
2 And the people of the country showed us no little kindness. For they kindled a fire and welcomed all of us, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3 And when Paul had gathered a number of sticks, and laid them on the fire, a viper came out of the heat and fastened on his hand.
4 Now when the locals saw the wild beast hanging on his hand, they said among themselves, “This man is surely a murderer. For though he has escaped the sea, vengeance has still not allowed to live.”
5 But he shook off the beast (into the fire) and felt no harm.
6 Even so, they waited for him to become swollen, or to suddenly fall down dead. But after they had looked for a long while and seen no harm come to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.
7 In the same region, the chief man of the isle (whose name was Publius) had an estate. He kindly received and lodged us for three days.
8 And so it was that the father of Publius lay sick from a fever and dysentery. Paul entered in to him. And when he prayed, he laid hands on him, and healed him.
9 Then, when this was done, others on the isle who had diseases also came to him and were healed.
10 They also honored us greatly. And when we departed, they gave us necessary supplies.
11 Now after three months, we departed in a ship of Alexandria, (which had wintered on the isle) whose figurehead was Castor and Pollux.
12 And when we arrived at Syracuse, we stayed three days.
13 And we cast off from there and came to Rhegium. And after one day, a south wind blew. And the next day we came to Puteoli,
14 where we found brothers and were invited to stay with them for seven days. And so, we went toward Rome.
15 And from there (when the brothers heard about us) they came to meet us at the Market of Appius and the three taverns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God, and took courage.
16 So when we came to Rome, the Centurion delivered the prisoners to the general captain. But Paul was allowed to dwell by himself with a soldier who guarded him.
17 And three days later, Paul called the chief of the Jews together. And when they had come, he said to them, “Men! Brothers! Though I have committed nothing against the people or Laws of the Fathers, I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
18 “After they examined me, they wanted to let me go because there was no reason to put me to death.
19 “But when the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar (not because I had anything of which to accuse my people).
20 “For this reason, therefore, I have called for you (to see you and to speak with you): for the hope of Israel’s sake, I am bound with this chain.”
21 Then they said to him, “We neither received letters out of Judea concerning you, nor have any of the brothers who came showed or spoken any evil of you.
22 “But we will hear what you think. For as concerning this sect, we know that it is contradicted everywhere.”
23 And when they had arranged a day, many came to him at his lodging. And he explained to them, testifying of the Kingdom of God and persuading them of those things that concern Jesus (both out of the Law of Moses and out of the Prophets) from morning to night.
24 And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken. And some did not believe.
25 Therefore, not being in agreement among themselves, they left after Paul had spoken one word: “The Holy Ghost spoke well to our Fathers by Isaiah the Prophet,
26 “saying, ‘Go to this people, and say, “By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand, and seeing you shall see, and not perceive.
27 “For the heart of this people has grown fat. And their ears are dull of hearing. And their eyes they have closed, or else they would see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and would return so that I might heal them.”’
28 “Therefore, be it known to you that this salvation by God is sent to the Gentiles. And they shall hear it.”
29 And when he had said these things, the Jews departed, and had great disputes among themselves.
30 And Paul remained a full two years in a house he rented for himself. And he welcomed all who came in to him,
31 boldly preaching the Kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, without hindrance.
38 Then Shephatiah, the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah, the son of Pashhur, and Jucal, the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur, the son of Malchiah, heard the Words that Jeremiah had spoken to all the people, saying,
2 “Thus says the LORD: ‘He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine and by the pestilence. But he who goes forth to the Chaldeans shall live. For his life shall be as a prize, and he shall live.’
3 “Thus says the LORD: ‘This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babel’s army, which shall take it.’”
4 Therefore the princes said to the king, “We implore you, let this man be put to death. For thus he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them. For this man does not seek the wealth of this people, but the hurt.”
5 Then Zedekiah the king said, “Behold, he is in your hands. For the king can deny you nothing.”
6 Then they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah, the son of Hammelech, which was in the court of the prison. And they let down Jeremiah with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
7 Now when Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, one of the Eunuchs who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon and that the king sat in the gate of Benjamin,
8 Ebed-Melech went out of the king’s house and spoke to the king, saying,
9 “My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the Prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon. And he dies of hunger in the place where he is. For there is no more bread in the city.”
10 Then the king commanded Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, saying, “Take from here thirty men with you, and take Jeremiah the Prophet out of the dungeon before he dies.”
11 So, Ebed-Melech took the men with him and went to the house of the king, under the treasury, and took old rotten rags there, and old worn clothes, and let them down by ropes into the dungeon, to Jeremiah.
12 And Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, “Put these old rags and worn clothes under your arm pits, in the place of the ropes.” And Jeremiah did so.
13 So they drew up Jeremiah with ropes and took him up out of the dungeon. And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
14 Then Zedekiah the king sent and brought Jeremiah the Prophet to him, into the third entry of the House of the LORD. And the king said to Jeremiah, “I will ask you something. Hide nothing from me.”
15 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “If I declare it to you, will you not kill me? And if I give you counsel, you will not hear me.”
16 So the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, “As the LORD lives, Who made us these souls, I will not kill you or give you into the hands of those men who seek your life.”
17 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “Thus says the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel: ‘If you will go forth to the king of Babel’s princes, then your soul shall live. And this city shall not be burnt up with fire. And you and your House shall live.
18 ‘But if you will not go forth to the king of Babel’s princes, then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans. And they shall burn it with fire. And you shall not escape out of their hands.’”
19 And Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, “I am afraid of the Jews who have fallen before the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hands, and they mock me.”
20 But Jeremiah said, “They shall not deliver you. Please listen to the Voice of the LORD which I speak to you. So shall it go well with you, and your soul shall live.
21 “But if you will refuse to go forth, this is the Word that the LORD has shown me:
22 ‘And behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah’s house shall be brought forth to the king of Babel’s princes. And those women shall say, “Your friends have misled you and have overcome you. Your feet were sunken in the mire. They have turned back.”
23 ‘So they shall bring out all your wives, and your children, to the Chaldeans. And you shall not escape from their hands, but shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babel. And you shall cause this city to be burnt with fire.’”
24 Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “Let no man know of these words, and you shall not die.
25 “But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you and say to you, ‘Declare to us, now, what you have said to the king and also what the king said to you. Do not hide it from us, and we will not kill you,’
26 “then you shall say to them, ‘I humbly petitioned the king not to make me return to Jonathan’s house, to die there.’”
27 Then all the princes came to Jeremiah and asked him. And he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So, they stopped speaking with him. For the matter was not heard.
28 So Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken. And he was there when Jerusalem was taken.
11 In the LORD I put my trust. How, then, can you say to my soul, “Flee to your mountain as a bird”?
2 For lo, the wicked bend their bow and make ready their arrows upon the string, so that they may secretly shoot at those who are upright in heart.
3 For if the foundations are cast down, what can the righteous do?
4 The LORD is in His Holy palace. The LORD’s throne is in the sky. His eyes behold. His eyelids try the children of men.
5 The LORD will try the righteous. But the wicked, and he who loves iniquity, His soul hates.
6 Upon the wicked He shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and stormy tempest. This is the portion of their cup.
7 For the righteous LORD loves righteousness. His face beholds the just. To him who excels upon the eight tune: A Psalm of David.
12 Help, LORD! For there is not a godly man left. For the faithful have failed from among the children of men.
2 They speak deceitfully, everyone with his neighbor; flattering with their lips, speaking with a double heart.
3 The LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things,
4 which have said, “With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?”
5 “Now, for the oppression of the needy, for the sighs of the poor, I will arise;” says the LORD, “and will speak their deliverance.”
6 The Words of the LORD are pure Words, as silver, tried in a furnace of earth; refined sevenfold.
7 You will keep them, O LORD. You will preserve him from this generation, forever.
8 The wicked walk on every side. When they are exalted, it is a shame for the sons of men. To him who excels: A Psalm of David.
