Judges 16

16 Then Samson went to Gaza, and saw a harlot there, and went in to her.

And it was told to the Gazites, “Samson has come here.” And they went around and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all night, saying, “Wait until the early morning and we shall kill him.”

And Samson slept until midnight and arose at midnight and took the doors of the gates of the city and the two posts and lifted them away, with the bars, and put them upon his shoulders and carried them up to the top of the mountain that is before Hebron.

And after this, he loved a woman by the river of Sorek, whose name was Delilah,

to whom came the princes of the Philistines. And they said to her, “Entice him and see wherein his great strength lies, and by what means we may overcome him, so that we may bind him and punish him. And every one of us shall give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.”

And Delilah said to Samson, “Tell me, please, wherein your great strength lies, and with what you might be bound, to do you harm.”

Then Samson answered her, “If they bind me with seven green cords that were never dried, then I shall be weak and be as another man.”

And the princes of the Philistines brought her seven green cords that were not dry, and she bound him with them.

And she had men lying in wait with her in the chamber. Then she said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he broke the cords, as a thread of yarn is broken when it feels fire. So, his strength was not known.

10 Afterward, Delilah said to Samson, “See, you have mocked me and told me lies. I ask you now, please tell me with what you might be bound.

11 Then he answered her, “If they bind me with new ropes that never were used, then shall I be weak and be as another man.”

12 Delilah, therefore, took new ropes and bound him with them, and said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And men lay in wait in the chamber, and he broke them from his arms, as a thread.

13 Afterward Delilah said to Samson, “Up to now you have beguiled me, and told me lies. Tell me how you might be bound.” And he said to her, “If you weave the seven locks of my head with the threads of the woof.

14 And she fastened it with a pin and said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke out of his sleep and went away with the pin of the web and the woof.

15 Again, she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times and have not told me wherein your great strength lies.”

16 And because she pressed him with her words continually, and pestered him, his soul was pained to the death.

17 Therefore, he told her all his heart and said to her, “There has never come a razor upon my head; for I am a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. Therefore, if I am shaved, my strength will go from me and I shall be weak and be like all men.”

18 And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent, and called for the princes of the Philistines, saying, “Come up once again; for he has shown me all his heart.” Then the princes of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hands.

19 And she made him sleep upon her knees. And she called a man and made him shave off the seven locks of his head. And she began to subdue him; for his strength had gone from him.

20 Then she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke out of his sleep, and thought, “I will go out now, as at other times, and shake myself.” But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him.

21 Therefore, the Philistines took him and put out his eyes and brought him down to Gaza and bound him with chains. And he was a grinder in the prison house.

22 And the hair of his head began to grow again after it was shaved.

23 Then, the princes of the Philistines gathered themselves together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon, their god, and to rejoice. For they said, “Our god has delivered Samson, our enemy, into our hands!”

24 Also when the people saw him, they praised their god. For they said, “Our god has delivered our enemy and the destroyer of our country, who has killed many of us, into our hands!”

25 And when their hearts were merry, they said, “Call Samson, so that he may perform for us!” So, they called Samson out of the prison house. And he was a laughingstock to them. And they set him between the pillars.

26 Then, Samson said to the servant who led him by the hand, “Lead me, so that I may touch the pillars that the house stands upon, and so that I may lean on them.”

27 Now, the house was full of men and women. And all the princes of the Philistines were there. Also, there were about three thousand men and women on the roof who watched while Samson performed.

28 Then, Samson called to the LORD, and said, “O Lord GOD! Think upon me, I pray! O God, I beg You, strengthen me just this one time, so that I may, at once, be avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes!”

29 And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood and upon which it was held up, one on his right and the other on his left.

30 Then Samson said, “Let me lose my life with the Philistines!” And he flexed with all his might; and the house fell upon the princes and upon all the people who were inside. So, the dead which he killed at his death, were more than those whom he had killed in his life.

31 Then, his brethren and all the House of his father came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol, in the sepulcher of Manoah, his father. Now, he had judged Israel for twenty years.

Acts 20

20 Now after the disturbance abated, Paul called the disciples to him, and embraced them, and left for Macedonia.

And when he had gone through those parts, and had encouraged them with many words, he came into Greece.

And after staying there for three months, he was about to sail for Syria. But he decided to return through Macedonia because the Jews had set a trap for him.

And Sopater of Berea accompanied him into Asia, as well as Aristarchus and Secundus of Thessalonica, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy, and the Asians, Tychicus and Trophimus.

These went ahead and awaited us at Troas.

And after the days of Unleavened Bread, we sailed from Philippi. And five days later we joined them at Troas, where we stayed for seven days.

And the first day of the week (the disciples having come together to break bread), Paul, ready to leave the next day, preached to them, and continued preaching until midnight.

And there were many lights in the upper room where they were gathered together.

And a certain young man named Eutychus had fallen into a dead sleep while sitting in a window. And as Paul preached at length, he was overcome with sleep and fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.

10 But Paul went down, and laid himself on him, and embraced him, saying, “Do not trouble yourselves. For his life is in him.”

11 Then, after having come up again and broken bread and eaten, he talked a long while (till daybreak) and left.

12 And they brought the boy (alive). And they were not a little comforted.

13 But we went ahead to the ship and sailed to Assos, so that we might receive Paul there. For so had he arranged and would himself go on foot.

14 Now when he had met us in Assos, and we had received him, we went to Mitylene.

15 And we sailed from there the next day and came opposite Chios. And the next day we arrived at Samos and stayed in Trogyllium. The next day we came to Miletus.

16 For Paul had determined to sail past Ephesus, because he did not want to spend time in Asia. For he hurried to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on the day of Pentecost.

17 Therefore he sent word to Ephesus from Miletus and called the elders of the church.

18 When they had come, he said to them, “You know how I have lived with you at all times, from the first day that I came into Asia;

19 “serving the Lord with all modesty, and with many tears and temptations (which came to me by the plotting of the Jews).

20 “And how I kept back nothing that was profitable, but have showed you, and taught you openly, and throughout every house;

21 “witnessing the repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ to both the Jews and the Greeks.

22 “And now behold I go, bound in the Spirit, to Jerusalem. And I do not know what things shall come to me there,

23 “except that the Holy Ghost witnesses in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me.

24 “But these things do not move me. Nor is my life dear to me. So that I may fulfill my course, and the ministry which I have received from the Lord Jesus (to testify the Gospel of the grace of God) with joy.

25 “And now behold, I know that hereafter all of you among whom I have gone preaching the Kingdom of God shall no longer see my face.

26 “Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all.

27 “For I have kept nothing back but have declared to you the whole counsel of God.

28 “Therefore, attend to yourselves, and to all the flock, among which the Holy Ghost has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God, which He has purchased with His own blood.

29 “For I know this: that after my departing, grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

30 “Moreover, men shall arise from your own selves, speaking perverse things to draw disciples away with them.

31 “Therefore watch. And remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone, both night and day, with tears.

32 “And now brothers, I commend you to God, and to the Word of His grace, which is able to build further, and to give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

33 “I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel.

34 “Yes, you know that these hands have ministered to my needs, and to those who were with me.

35 “I have shown you all things; how that in so doing you ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

36 And when he had spoken this, he kneeled down and prayed with them all.

37 Then they all wept abundantly, and fell on Paul’s neck, and kissed him,

38 being most tormented by the words he spoke of seeing his face no more. And they accompanied him to the ship.

Jeremiah 29

29 Now these are the words of the Book that Jeremiah the Prophet, sent from Jerusalem to the rest of the elders who were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the Prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babel

(after Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and of Jerusalem, and the workmen, and cunning men had departed from Jerusalem)

by the hand of Elasah, the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah, the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah, king of Judah, sent to Babel to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babel) saying,

“Thus has the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, spoken to all who are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away captives from Jerusalem to Babel:

‘Build yourselves houses to dwell in. And plant yourselves gardens and eat the fruits of them.

‘Take wives for yourselves and beget sons and daughters, and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters, so that you may be increased there and not diminished.

‘And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captives. And pray to the LORD for it. For in its peace shall you have peace.’

“For thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Do not let your prophets and your soothsayers who are among you, deceive you or listen to your dreams which you dream.

‘For they prophesy a lie to you in My Name. I have not sent them,” says the LORD.

10 ‘But thus says the LORD: that after seventy years are completed at Babel, I will attend to you, and perform My good promise toward you, and cause you to return to this place.

11 ‘For I know the thoughts that I have thought towards you,’ says the LORD, ‘the thoughts of peace and not of trouble, to give you a future and hope.

12 ‘Then you shall cry to Me. And you shall go and pray to Me. And I will hear you.

13 ‘And you shall seek Me, and find, because you shall seek Me with all your heart.

14 ‘And I will be found by you,’ says the LORD, ‘and I will turn away your captivity. And I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have cast you,’ says the LORD, ‘and will bring you back to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive

15 ‘because you have said, “The LORD has raised up Prophets for us in Babel.”’

16 “Therefore thus says the LORD of the king who sits upon the throne of David, and of all the people who dwell in this city, your brethren, who have not gone forth with you into captivity,

17 “thus says the LORD of Hosts: ‘Behold, I will send the sword upon them, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like rotten figs that cannot be eaten, they are so bad.

18 ‘And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence. And I will make them a terror to all kingdoms of the Earth, a curse and astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have cast them,

19 ‘because they have not heard My Words’ says the LORD, ‘which I sent to them by My servants, the Prophets, rising up early and sending. But you would not hear,’ says the LORD.

20 “Therefore, hear the Word of the LORD, all you of the captivity whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babel.

21 “Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, about Ahab, the son of Kolaiah, and about Zedekiah, the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy lies to you in My Name: ‘Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babel. And he shall kill them before your eyes.

22 ‘And all those from Judah among the captivity, who are in Babel, shall take up this curse against them, and say, “The LORD make you like Zedekiah, and like Ahab, whom the king of Babel burnt in the fire,”

23 ‘Because they have committed villainy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbor’s wives, and have spoken lying words in My Name, which I have not Commanded them. I know it, and testify it,’ says the LORD.

24 ‘You shall also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

25 “Thus speaks the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, saying: ‘Because you have sent letters in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah the Priest, and to all the priests, saying,

26 “The LORD has made you Priest instead of Jehoiada the Priest, so that there should be an officer in the House of the LORD for every man who raves and makes himself a prophet, to put him in prison and in the stocks.”

27 ‘Now, therefore, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who prophesies to you?

28 ‘Because, for this reason he sent to us in Babel, saying, “This captivity is long. Build houses to dwell in, and plant gardens, and eat the fruits of them.”’”

29 And Zephaniah the Priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the Prophet.

30 Then the Word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,

31 “Send to all them of the captivity, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD of Shemaiah the Nehelamite: “Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I did not send him, and he caused you to trust in a lie,

32 “therefore thus says the LORD: Behold, I will reckon with Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his seed. He shall not have a man to dwell among this people, nor shall he behold the good that I will do for My people,” says the LORD, “because he has spoken rebelliously against the LORD.”’”

Mark 15

15 And before dawn, the chief priests held a council with the elders, and the scribes, and the whole Council; and bound Jesus and led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate.

Then Pilate asked Him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And He answered, and said to him, “You have said so.”

And the chief priests accused Him of many things.

So Pilate asked Him again, saying, “Do you answer nothing? Behold how many things they witness against You.”

But Jesus answered no more at all, so that Pilate marveled.

Now at the feast, Pilate would deliver a prisoner to them, whoever they desired.

And there was one named Barabbas (who was bound with his fellows) who had made insurrection, during which he had committed murder.

And the people cried aloud and began to desire that Pilate would do as he had always done for them.

Then Pilate answered them, and said, “Should I release to you the King of the Jews?”

10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered Him out of envy.

11 But the chief priests had incited the people to desire Barabbas.

12 And Pilate answered, and said to them again, “What then shall I do with Him Whom you call the King of the Jews?”

13 And they cried again, “Crucify Him!”

14 Then Pilate said to them, “But, what evil has He done?” And they cried even more fervently, “Crucify Him!”

15 So Pilate, willing to content the people, gave them Barabbas, and delivered Jesus - once he had scourged Him - to be crucified.

16 Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall (which is the common hall) and called together the whole band,

17 and clothed Him with purple, and put a crown of thorns on His head,

18 and began to salute Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

19 And they struck Him on the head with a reed, and spit on Him, and bowed their knees, and did Him reverence.

20 And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, and put His own clothes back on, and led Him out to crucify Him.

21 And they compelled one who passed by called Simon of Cyrene (who came out of the country and was father of Alexander and Rufus) to bear His cross.

22 And they brought Him to a place named Golgotha (which is by interpretation, ‘Place of Dead Mens’ Skulls’).

23 And they gave Him wine to drink, mingled with myrrh. But He did not receive it.

24 And when they had crucified Him, they parted His garments, casting lots for what every man should have.

25 And it was the third hour when they crucified Him.

26 And the title of His cause was written above, ‘THE KING OF THE JEWS.’

27 They also crucified two thieves with Him, one on the right and the other on His left.

28 Thus the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was counted among the wicked.”

29 And those who passed by railed on Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Hey, You who would destroy the Temple, and build it in three days,

30 save Yourself! And come down from the cross!”

31 Likewise even the chief priests, also mocking, said among themselves with the scribes, “He saved other men! Himself He cannot save!

32 “Let Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with Him also reviled Him.

33 Now, when the sixth hour had come, darkness arose over all the land until the ninth hour.

34 And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama-sabachthani?” Which is by interpretation, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

35 And some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, “Behold, He calls Elijah!”

36 And one ran and filled a sponge full of vinegar and put it on a reed and gave it to Him, saying, “Let Him alone! Let us see if Elijah will come and take Him down!”

37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice and gave up the ghost.

38 And the veil of the Temple was torn in two, from the top to the bottom.

39 Now when the centurion who stood near Him saw that He, thus crying, gave up the ghost, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God.”

40 There were also women who watched from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome,

41 who also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee, and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

42 And now when the night had come (because it was the Day of the Preparation that is before the Sabbath)

43 Joseph of Arimathea, an honorable councilman, who also looked for the Kingdom of God, went in boldly to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

44 And Pilate was surprised that He was already dead. So, he called the centurion and asked him whether He were indeed dead.

45 And when he knew the truth from the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph;

46 who bought a linen cloth, and took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb that was hewn out of a rock; and rolled a stone over the door of the sepulcher.

47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary Joses’ mother beheld where He was laid.
