Judges 4

And again, the children of Israel began to do wickedly in the sight of the LORD, after Ehud was dead.

And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin, king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor, whose chief captain was called Sisera, who dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.

Then the children of Israel cried to the LORD. For Jabin had nine hundred chariots of iron and had oppressed the children of Israel very severely for twenty years.

And at that time, Deborah, a Prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, judged Israel.

And this Deborah dwelt under a palm tree, between Ramah and Bethel, on Mount Ephraim. And the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

Then she sent and called Barak, the son of Abinoam, out of Kedesh of Naphtali, and said to him, “Has not the LORD God of Israel Commanded, saying, ‘Go and draw toward Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun;

and I will draw to you (to the river Kishon) Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude, and will deliver him into your hand’?”

And Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, I will go. But if you will not go with me, I will not go.”

Then she answered, “I will surely go with you; but this journey that you take shall not be for your honor. For the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.

10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh. And he went up with ten thousand men. And Deborah went up with him.

11 Now, Heber the Kenite, who was of the children of Hobab, the father-in-law of Moses, had departed from the Kenites and pitched his tent as far away as the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.

12 Then they showed Sisera that Barak, the son of Abinoam, had gone up to Mount Tabor.

13 And Sisera called for all his chariots, nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people who were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles to the river Kishon.

14 Then Deborah said to Barak, “Up! For this is the day that the LORD has delivered Sisera into your hand! Has not the LORD gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

15 And the LORD destroyed Sisera and all his chariots and all his army with the edge of the sword, before Barak, so that Sisera descended from his chariot, and fled away on foot.

16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the army, to Harosheth of the Gentiles. And all the army of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword. There was not a man left.

17 However, Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite (for there was peace between Jabin, the king of Hazor, and between the House of Heber the Kenite).

18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Turn in, my lord. Turn in to me. Do not fear!” And when he had turned in to her, into her tent, she covered him with a rug.

19 And he said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink; for I am thirsty.” And she opened a bottle of milk and gave him a drink and covered him.

20 Again, he said to her, “Stand in the door of the tent. And when any man comes and inquires of you, saying, ‘Is any man there?’ You shall say, ‘No.’”

21 Then Jael, Heber’s wife, took a nail from the tent, and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him, and drove the nail through his temples and into the ground (for he was fast asleep and weary). And he died.

22 And behold, as Barak pursued after Sisera, Jael came out to meet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek.” And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead; and the nail was in his temples.

23 So God brought down Jabin, the king of Canaan, that day, before the children of Israel.

24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered and prevailed against Jabin, the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin, king of Canaan.

Acts 8

And Saul consented to his death. And at that time, there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem. And they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the Apostles.

Then God-fearing men carried Stephen to be buried and made great lamentation for him.

But Saul defiled the Church, and entered into every house, and drew out both men and women, and put them into prison.

Therefore, those who were scattered throughout, went to and fro preaching the word.

Then Philip came into the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.

And the people paid attention to those things which Philip spoke, with one mind, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed. And many taken with palsies, and who were lame, were healed.

And there was great joy in that city.

And there had been in the city, a certain man called Simon, who used witchcraft, and bewitched the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was some great man;

10 to whom they paid attention, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the great power of God!”

11 And they paid attention to him because he had bewitched them with sorceries for a long time.

12 But as soon as they believed Philip (who preached things concerning the Kingdom of God and the Name of Jesus Christ), they were baptized, both men and women.

13 Then Simon himself also believed and was baptized. And he continued with Philip. And when he saw the signs and great miracles which were done, he wondered.

14 Now when the Apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the Word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.

15 Who, when they had come down, prayed for them to receive the Holy Ghost.

16 For as yet He had not fallen down on any of them. But they had been baptized only in the Name of the Lord Jesus.

17 Then they laid their hands on them. And they received the Holy Ghost.

18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the Apostles’ hands, the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19 saying, “Give me this power also! So that whomever I lay hands upon may receive the Holy Ghost!”

20 Then Peter said to him, “Your money dies with you because you think that the gift of God may be obtained with money.

21 “You have neither part nor fellowship in this Word. For your heart is not right in the sight of God.

22 “Therefore repent of this, your wickedness. And pray to God that if it be possible, the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

23 “For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.”

24 Then Simon answered, and said, “Pray to the Lord for me, that none of these things which you have spoken come upon me!”

25 So after they had testified and preached the Word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem and preached the Gospel in many Samaritan towns.

26 Then the Angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise, and go towards the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza, which is a wasteland.”

27 And he arose and went on. And behold, a certain eunuch of Ethiopia (Candace the Queen of the Ethiopians’ Chief Governor, who had the rule over all her treasure) who came to Jerusalem to worship,

28 was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he read Isaiah the Prophet.

29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and enjoin this chariot.”

30 And Philip ran there, and heard him read the Prophet Isaiah, and said, “But do you understand what you read?”

31 And he said, “How can I unless I have a guide?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.

32 Now the place of the Scripture which he read was this, “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. And like a lamb, mute before his shearer, so also did He not open His mouth.

33 “In His humility, His judgment has been exalted. But who shall declare His generation? For His life is taken from the Earth.”

34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, “I ask you, of Whom does the Prophet say this, of himself, or of some other Man?”

35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same Scripture, and preached Jesus to him.

36 And as they went on their way, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What must I do to be baptized?”

37 And Philip said to him, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” Then he answered, and said, “I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

38 Then he commanded the chariot to stop. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water. And he baptized him.

39 And as soon as they had come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more. So, he went on his way, rejoicing.

40 But Philip was found at Azotus. And he walked to and fro, preaching in all the cities, until he came to Caesarea.

Jeremiah 17

17 “The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, with the point of a diamond, engraved upon the tablet of their heart and upon the horns of your altars.

“They remember their altars as their children, with their groves by the green trees, upon the high hills.

“O, My mountain in the field! I will give your substance, all your treasures, to be plundered, for the sin of your high places, throughout all your borders.

“And you, even you, shall release your heritage that I gave you. And I will cause you to serve your enemies in the land, which you do not know. For you have kindled a fire in My anger, which shall burn forever.”

Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and withdraws his heart from the LORD.

“For he shall be like the heath in the wilderness, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

“For he shall be as a tree that is planted by the water, which spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not feel when the heat comes. But her leaf shall be green and shall not care for the year of drought. Nor shall it cease from yielding fruit.

“The heart is deceitful and wicked above all things, who can know it?

10 “I, the LORD, search the heart, test the inner core, to give to every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his works.

11 “As the partridge gathers those which she has not brought forth, he who gets riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days. And at his end, he shall be a fool.”

12 As a glorious throne, exalted from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary!

13 O LORD! The hope of Israel, whoever forsakes You shall be confounded! Those who depart from you shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the Fountain of Living Waters.

14 Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be whole! Save me, and I shall be saved! For You are my praise!

15 Behold, they say to me, “Where is the Word of the LORD? Let it come now.”

16 But I, myself, have not run away from being a shepherd after You. Nor have I desired the day of misery. You know. That which came out of my lips was before You.

17 Do not be terrible to me. You are my hope in the day of adversity.

18 Let those who persecute me be confounded. But do not let me be confounded. Let them be afraid, but do not let me be afraid. Bring upon them the day of adversity and destroy them with double destruction.

19 Thus has the LORD said to me: “Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem,

20 “and say to them, ‘Hear the Word of the LORD, you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem who enter in by these gates!

21 ‘Thus says the LORD: “Take heed to your souls, and bear no burden on the Sabbath day, or bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem

22 “or carry forth burdens out of your houses on the Sabbath day, or do any work. But sanctify the Sabbath, as I Commanded your Fathers.”

23 ‘But they did not obey, nor did they incline their ears, but made their necks stiff and would not hear or receive correction.

24 “Nevertheless, if you will hear Me,” says the LORD, “and bear no burden through the gates of the city on the Sabbath day, but sanctify the Sabbath day, so that you do no work on it,

25 “then shall the kings and the princes enter in at the gates of this city, and shall sit upon the throne of David, and shall ride upon chariots and upon horses, they and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And this city shall remain forever.

26 “And they shall come — from the cities of Judah, and from around Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the South — who shall bring Burnt Offerings and Sacrifices and Meat Offerings and incense, shall bring sacrifices of praise into the House of the LORD.

27 “But if you will not hear Me, to sanctify the Sabbath day and not bear a burden or go through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in its gates. And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem. And it shall not be quenched.”’”

Mark 3

And again He entered into the synagogue. And there was a man who had a withered hand.

And they watched Him, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath day, that they might accuse Him.

Then He said to the man who had the withered hand, “Arise. Stand in front of the crowd.”

And He said to them, “Is it lawful to do a good deed on the Sabbath day, or to do evil; to save the life, or to kill!?” But they did not answer.

Then He looked at them angrily, mourning also for the hardness of their hearts, and said to the man, “Stretch forth your hand.” And he stretched it out. And his hand was restored, as whole as the other.

And the Pharisees departed, and immediately gathered a council with the Herodians against Him, so that they might destroy Him.

But Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea. And a great multitude followed Him from Galilee, and from Judea,

and from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and beyond Jordan. And those who dwelt around Tyre and Sidon - when they had heard what great things He did - came to Him in great number.

And He commanded His disciples that a little ship should wait for Him because of the multitude, lest they should overwhelm Him.

10 For He had healed many; so much so that they pressed upon Him to touch Him, as many as had plagues.

11 And when the unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him, and cried, saying, “You are the Son of God!”

12 And He sharply rebuked them, that they should not tell Who He was.

13 Then He went up into a mountain and called to Him whom He would. And they came to Him.

14 And He appointed twelve, that they should be with Him. And that He might send them to preach.

15 And that they might have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out demons.

16 And the first was Simon. And He named Simon, ‘Peter’;

17 then James, the son of Zebedee, and John, James’ brother (and surnamed them ‘Boanerges’, which is, ‘The Sons of Thunder’),

18 and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James (the son of Alphaeus), and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,

19 and Judas Iscariot (who also betrayed Him). And they came home.

20 And the multitude assembled again, so that they could not even eat bread.

21 And when His family heard of it, they went out to get Him. For they said that He was beside Himself.

22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem, said, “He has Beelzebub. And through the prince of the demons He casts out demons.”

23 But He called them to Him, and said to them in parables, “How can Satan drive out Satan?

24 “For if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

25 “Or if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot continue.

26 “So if Satan opposes himself, and is divided, he cannot endure, but is at an end.

27 “No one can enter into a strong man’s house, and take away his goods, except that he first bind that strong man, and then rob his house.

28 “Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the children of man, and blasphemies with which they blaspheme.

29 “But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Ghost, shall never have forgiveness; but is culpable of eternal damnation.”

30 He said this because they said, ‘He has an unclean spirit.’

31 Then His brothers and mother came and stood outside and sent word to Him and called Him.

32 And the people who sat around Him said to Him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers seek you outside.”

33 But He answered them, saying, “Who is my mother and my brothers?”

34 And He looked at those who sat around Him, and said, “Behold My mother and My brothers.

35 “For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother, My sister, and My mother.”
