Judges 1

After Joshua was dead, the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, “Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, to fight first against them?”

And the LORD said, “Judah shall go up. Behold, I have given the land into his hand.”

And Judah said to Simeon, his brother, “Come up with me into my lot, so that we may fight against the Canaanites. And I likewise will go with you into your lot.” So, Simeon went with him.

Then Judah went up. And the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hands. And in Bezek, they killed ten thousand of them.

And they found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him and killed the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

But Adoni-Bezek fled. And they pursued after him and caught him and cut off the thumbs of his hands and of his feet.

And Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings, having the thumbs of their hands and their feet cut off, gathered crumbs under my table. As I have done, so God has rewarded me.” So, they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

Now, the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it and struck it with the edge of the sword and had set the city on fire.

Afterward, the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who dwelt in the mountain and toward the South and in the low country.

10 And Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron (the Hebron which beforetime was called Kirjath Arba) and they killed Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

11 And from there he went to the inhabitants of Debir (the name of Debir in old time was Kirjath Sepher).

12 And Caleb said, “He who strikes Kirjath Sepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah, my daughter, for a wife.”

13 And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it, to whom he gave Achsah, his daughter, for a wife.

14 And when she came, she moved him to ask her father for a field. And she dismounted her donkey; and Caleb said to her, “What are you doing?”

15 And she answered him, “Give me a blessing. For you have given me a southern country, give me also springs of water.” And Caleb gave her the springs above and the springs beneath.

16 And the children of Keni, Moses’ father-in-law, went up out of the city of the palm trees, with the children of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah that lies in the southern region of Arad, and went and dwelt among the people.

17 But Judah went with Simeon, his brother, and they killed the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it, and called the name of the city Hormah.

18 Also, Judah took Gaza, with its territories, and Ashkelon, with its territories, and Ekron, with its territories.

19 And the LORD was with Judah; and he possessed the mountains. For he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valleys because they had chariots of iron.

20 And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said; and he expelled from there the three sons of Anak.

21 But, the children of Benjamin did not cast out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem. Therefore, the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

22 They, also, who were of the House of Joseph, went up to Bethel. And the LORD was with them.

23 And the House of Joseph spied out Bethel (the name of the city beforetime was Luz.)

24 And the spies saw a man come out of the city; and they said to him, “Show us, please, the way into the city; and we will show you mercy.”

25 And when he had shown them the way into the city, they struck the city with the edge of the sword. But they let the man and all his household depart.

26 Then the man went into the land of the Hittites and built a city and called its name ‘Luz’, which is its name to this day.

27 Nor did Manasseh destroy Beth Shean, with her towns, or Taanach with her towns, or the inhabitants of Dor with her towns, or the inhabitants of Ibleam with her towns, or the inhabitants of Megiddo with her towns. But the Canaanites still dwelt in that land.

28 And it came to pass at that time, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not expel them completely.

29 Likewise, Ephraim did not expel the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer, but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

30 Nor did Zebulun expel the inhabitants of Kitron, or the inhabitants of Nahalol, but the Canaanites dwelt among them and became tributaries.

31 Nor did Asher cast out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon, or of Ahlab, or of Achzib, or of Helbah, or of Aphik, or of Rehob,

32 but the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land. For they did not drive them out.

33 Nor did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, or the inhabitants of Beth Anath, but dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land. Nevertheless, the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became tributaries to them.

34 And the Amorites drove the children of Dan into the mountain, so that they did not allow them to come down to the valley.

35 And the Amorites still dwelt on Mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim. And when the hand of Joseph’s family prevailed, they became tributaries.

36 And the territory of the Amorites was from Maaleh-Akrabbim, from Sela and upward.

Acts 5

But a certain man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a possession,

and embezzled part of the price (his wife also being aware of it) and brought a certain part and laid it down at the Apostles’ feet.

Then Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart, that you should lie to the Holy Ghost, and embezzle part of the price of this possession?

“While it remained, was it not yours? And after it was sold, was it not under your authority? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to man, but to God.”

Now when Ananias heard these words, he fell down, and gave up the ghost. Then great fear came on all those who heard these things.

And the young men rose up, and picked him up, and carried him out and buried him.

And it happened that about the space of three hours after, that his wife came in, ignorant of that which was done.

And Peter said to her, “Tell me, did you sell the land for this much?” And she said, “Yes, for that much.”

Then Peter said to her, “Why have you agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door and shall carry you out.”

10 Then she immediately fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carried her out, and buried her by her husband.

11 And great fear came over all the church, and on all who heard these things.

12 Thus, many signs and wonders were shown among the people by the hands of the Apostles. And they were all of one mind in Solomon’s porch.

13 And of the rest, no one dared join them. Nevertheless, the people extolled them.

14 Also, the number of those who believed in the Lord, both of men and women, grew more and more;

15 insomuch that they brought the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, so that at least the shadow of Peter might envelop some of them when he came by.

16 Also, a multitude came into Jerusalem out of the surrounding cities (bringing sick folks and those who were possessed with unclean spirits) who were all healed.

17 Then the High Priest, and all who were with him (which was the sect of the Sadducees), rose up and were full of indignation;

18 and laid hands on the Apostles and put them in the common prison.

19 But the Angel of the Lord opened the prison doors by night, and brought them forth, and said,

20 “Go your way and stand in the Temple. And speak all the words of this life to the people.”

21 So when they heard it, they entered into the Temple early in the morning, and taught. And the High Priest came (and those who were with him), and called the Council together, and all the elders of the children of Israel, and sent word to the prison to have them brought.

22 But when the officers came, and did not find them in the prison, they returned and told it,

23 saying, “Indeed we found the prison locked as securely as was possible, and the guards standing outside, in front of the doors. But when we had opened it, we found no one inside.”

24 Then, when the High Priest and the Captain of the Temple and the chief priests heard these things, they were in doubt of what would become of this.

25 Then one came and reported to them, saying, “Behold, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the Temple, and teach the people.”

26 Then the captain went, with the officers, and brought them, without violence (for they feared that the people might stone them).

27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the Council. And the High Priest asked them,

28 saying, “Did we not directly command you not to teach in this Name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine! And you intend to bring this Man’s blood upon us!”

29 Then Peter and the Apostles answered, and said, “We need to obey God rather than man.

30 “The God of our fathers has raised up Jesus, Whom you killed and hanged on a tree.

31 “God has exalted Him, with His right hand, to be a Prince and a Savior; to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

32 “And we are his witnesses concerning these things which we say, and the Holy Ghost Whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

33 Now when they heard it, they were cut to the quick, and planned to kill them.

34 Then a certain Pharisee named Gamaliel (a doctor of the Law, honored by all the people) stood up in the Council, and commanded to put the Apostles outside for a little while.

35 And he said to them, “Men of Israel! Be careful what you intend to do regarding these men.

36 For before these times, Theudas rose up, boasting himself to be somebody. Who was followed by a number of men (about four hundred) and who was killed. And all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing.

37 “After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up, in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him. He also perished and all who obeyed him were scattered.

38 “And now I say to you keep away from these men and let them alone. For if this counsel (or this work) is of man, it will come to nothing.

39 “But if it be of God, you cannot destroy it. For you would be found fighting against God as well.”

40 And they agreed with him and called the Apostles. And after they had beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the Name of Jesus. And they let them go.

41 So they departed from the Council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer rebuke for His Name.

42 And they did not cease to teach and preach Jesus Christ daily in the Temple, and from house to house.

Jeremiah 14

14 The Word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.

“Judah has mourned, and its gates are desolate. They have been brought to heaviness, to the ground, and the cry of Jerusalem goes up.

“And their nobles have sent their inferiors to the water, who came to the wells and found no water. They returned with their vessels empty. They were ashamed and confounded and covered their heads.

“For the ground was destroyed because there was no rain on the Earth. The plowmen were ashamed, covering their heads.

“Yea, the deer also calved in the field, and left it, because there was no grass.

“And the wild donkeys stood in the high places and drew in their wind like dragons. Their eyes failed because there was no grass.”

O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, deal with us according to Your Name. For our rebellions are many. We sinned against You.

O, You Hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble! Why are You as a stranger in the land, as one who passes through, to tarry for a night?

Why are You as a man astonished, and as a strong man who cannot help? Yet You, O LORD, are in the midst of us. And Your Name has called upon us. Do not forsake us.

10 Thus says the LORD to this people: “Thus have they delighted in wandering. They have not refrained their feet.” Therefore, the LORD has no delight in them. He will now remember their iniquity and visit their sins.

11 Then said the LORD to me, “You shall not pray to do this people good.

12 “When they fast, I will not hear their cry. And when they offer Burnt Offering, and an oblation, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.”

13 Then I answered, “Ah, LORD God, behold, the prophets say to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall famine come upon you. But I will give you assured peace in this place.’”

14 Then the LORD said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in My Name. I have not sent them, nor did I Command them, nor did I speak to them. They prophesy to you a false vision, and divination, and vanity, and deceitfulness of their own heart.”

15 Therefore thus says the LORD: “Concerning the prophets that prophesy in My Name whom I have not sent, yet they say, ‘Sword and famine shall not be in this land,’ by sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

16 “And the people to whom these prophets prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem, because of the famine and the sword, and there shall be no one to bury them and their wives and their sons and their daughters. For I will pour their wickedness upon them.

17 “Therefore, you shall say this Word to them, ‘Let my eyes drop down tears night and day without ceasing. For the virgin daughter of my people is destroyed with a great destruction, with a very grievous plague.

18 ‘For if I go into the field, behold the slain with the sword. And if I enter into the city, also behold those who are sick from hunger. Moreover, the Prophet and the priest go wandering into a land that they do not know.’”

19 Have You utterly rejected Judah? Or has Your Soul abhorred Zion? Why have You stricken us, so that we cannot be healed? We looked for peace and there is no good, and for the time of health and behold trouble.

20 We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness and the iniquity of our fathers. For we have sinned against You.

21 Do not abhor. For Your Name’s sake, do not cast down the throne of Your Glory. Remember. Do not break Your Covenant with us.

22 Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can give rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Is it not You, O LORD our God? Therefore, we will wait upon You. For You have made all these things.

Matthew 28

28 Now at the end of the Sabbath, when the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the sepulcher.

And behold, there was a great earthquake. For the Angel of the Lord descended from Heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat upon it.

And his face was like lightning. And his clothing white as snow.

And for fear of him, the keepers were astonished, and became as dead men.

But the angel answered, and said to the women, “Do not fear. For I know that you seek Jesus, Who was crucified.

“He is not here. For He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord was laid.

“And go, quickly, and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead. And behold, He goes before you into Galilee. There you shall see Him. Lo, I have told you.”

So they quickly departed from the sepulcher, with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.

And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus also met them, saying, “Rejoice!” And they came, and took Him by the feet, and worshipped Him.

10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid! Go, and tell My brothers, so that they would go into Galilee. And there they shall see Me.”

11 Now when they had gone, behold, some of the guards came into the city, and reported to the chief priests all the things that had been done.

12 And they gathered together with the elders, and took counsel, and gave considerable money to the soldiers,

13 saying, “Say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we slept.’

14 “And if this matter comes before the governor to be heard, we will persuade him, so that you need not worry.”

15 So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story is told among the Jews to this day.

16 Then the eleven disciples went into Galilee, and to a mountain where Jesus had directed them.

17 And when they saw Him, they worshipped Him. But some doubted.

18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All power is given to Me, in Heaven and on Earth.

19 “Go, therefore, and disciple all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost,

20 “teaching them to observe all things, whatever I have Commanded you. And lo, I am with you always, until the end of the age. Amen.”
