M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
8 After, the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not fear or be dismayed. Take all the men of war with you and arise. Go up to Ai. Behold, I have given the king of Ai into your hand, and his people, and his city, and his land.
2 “And you shall do to Ai and to its king as you did to Jericho and to its king. Only, you shall take its spoils and its cattle to you as plunder. You shall lie in wait against the city, on its back side.”
3 Then Joshua and all the men of war arose to go up against Ai. And Joshua chose out thirty thousand strong and valiant men and sent them away by night.
4 And he commanded them, saying, “Behold, you shall lie in wait against the city, on the back side of the city. Do not go very far from the city, but everyone be ready.
5 “And I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. And when they shall come out against us, as they did the first time, then will we flee before them.
6 “For they will come out after us, till we have brought them out of the city. For they will say, ‘They flee before us, as the first time.’ So we will flee before them.
7 “Then you shall rise up from lying in wait and destroy the city. For the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
8 “And when you have taken the city, you shall set it on fire. According to the Commandment of the LORD you shall do so. Behold, I have charged you.”
9 Joshua then sent them forth. And they went to lie in wait, and stayed between Bethel and Ai, on the West side of Ai. But Joshua lodged that night among the people.
10 And Joshua rose up early in the morning and numbered the people. And he and the elders of Israel went up before the people against Ai.
11 Also all the men of war who were with him went up and drew near and came against the city, and pitched on the North side of Ai. And there was a valley between them and Ai.
12 And he took about five thousand men and set them to lie in wait between Bethel and Ai, on the West side of the city.
13 And the people set all the army that was on the north side against the city, and those who lay in wait on the west, opposite the city. Joshua went the same night into the midst of the valley.
14 And when the king of Ai saw it, then the men of the city hurried and rose up early and went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, in front of the plain. For he did not know that anyone lay in wait against him on the back side of the city.
15 Then Joshua and all Israel, as if beaten before them, fled by the way of the wilderness.
16 And all the people of the city were called together to pursue after them. And they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away out of the city,
17 so that there was not a man left in Ai or in Bethel who did not go out after Israel. And they left the city open and pursued after Israel.
18 Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Stretch out the spear that is in your hand toward Ai. For I will give it into your hand.” And Joshua stretched out the spear that he had in his hand toward the city.
19 And those who lay in wait arose quickly out of their place and ran, as soon as he had stretched out his hand. And they entered into the city and took it and hurried and set the city on fire.
20 And the men of Ai looked behind them and saw it. For lo, the smoke of the city ascended up to Heaven. And they had no power to flee this way or that way. For the people who fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.
21 When Joshua and all Israel saw that those who lay in wait had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city mounted up, then they turned back and killed the men of Ai.
22 Also, the others came out of the city against them. So, they were in the midst of Israel, some on one side and the rest on the other side. And they killed them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
23 And they took the king of Ai alive and brought him to Joshua.
24 And when Israel had finished killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the field (in the wilderness where they chased them), and when they had all fallen on the edge of the sword until they were consumed, all the Israelites returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword.
25 And all who fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, including all the men of Ai.
26 For Joshua did not draw his hand which he had stretched out with the spear back again until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27 Only the cattle and the spoils of this city did Israel take as plunder for themselves, according to the Word of the LORD which He Commanded Joshua.
28 And Joshua burnt Ai, and made it a heap forever, a wilderness to this day.
29 And he hanged the king of Ai on a tree, until the evening. And as soon as the Sun was down, Joshua commanded that they take his carcass down from the tree and cast it at the entering of the gate of the city, and lay a great heap of stones upon it, which remains to this day.
30 Then Joshua built an altar to the LORD God of Israel on Mount Ebal—
31 as Moses, the servant of the LORD had commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses—an Altar of whole stone, over which no man had lifted an iron. And they offered Burnt Offerings unto the LORD on it and sacrificed Peace Offerings.
32 Also, he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the Law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
33 And all Israel (and their elders and officers and their judges) stood on this side of the Ark and on that side, before the Priests of the Levites (who bore the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD), the stranger as well as he who is born in the country, half of them opposite Mount Gerizim and half of them opposite Mount Ebal, as Moses, the servant of the LORD, had commanded before, so that they should bless the children of Israel.
34 Then, afterward, he read all the Words of the Law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law.
35 There was not a Word of all that Moses had commanded which Joshua did not read before all the Congregation of Israel, the women as well as the children, and the stranger who was conversant among them.
139 O LORD, You have searched me and known.
2 You know my sitting and my rising. You understand my thoughts afar off.
3 You winnow my paths, and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word on my tongue but that You know it wholly, O LORD.
5 You fortify me behind and before and lay Your hand upon me.
6 Your knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is so high that I cannot attain to it.
7 Where shall I go from Your Spirit; or where shall I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend into Heaven, You are there. If I lie down in Hell, You are there.
9 Let me take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea.
10 Even there shall Your hand lead me, and Your right hand hold me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall hide me,” even the night shall be light around me.
12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day. The darkness and light are both alike.
13 For You have possessed my core. You have covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wondrously made. Marvelous are Your works; and my soul knows it well!
15 My bones are not hidden from You; though I was made in secret, fashioned beneath, in the Earth.
16 Your eyes saw me when I was without form; for in Your Book were all things written, days fashioned at a time when there were still none of them.
17 How dear, therefore, are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more than the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.
19 Oh that You would slay, O God, the wicked and bloody men. Depart from me
20 those who speak wickedly of You! Your enemies are lifted up in vain.
21 Do I not hate those who hate You, O LORD? And do I not earnestly contend with those who rise up against You?
22 I hate them with an unfeigned hatred, as if they were my enemies.
23 Try me, O God, and know my heart. Test me and know my thoughts
24 and consider if there is any way of wickedness in me. And lead me in the Way, forever. To him who excels: A Psalm of David
2 Moreover, the Word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2 “Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD: “I remember you—the kindness of your youth, the love of your marriage, when you went after Me in the wilderness in a land that was not sown—
3 “Israel, a thing hallowed to the LORD, His firstfruits. All those who eat it shall be guilty. Evil shall come upon them,” says the LORD.’”
4 Hear the Word of the LORD, O House of Jacob, and all the families of the House of Israel.
5 Thus says the LORD: “What iniquity have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me, and have walked after vanity, and have become vain?
6 “For they did not say, ‘Where is the LORD Who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, Who led us through the wilderness, through a desert and waste land, through a dry land, and by the shadow of death, by a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?’
7 “And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat its fruit, and the commodities of the same. But when you entered, you defiled My land, and made My heritage an abomination.
8 “The priests did not say, ‘Where is the LORD?’ And those who should minister the Law did not know Me. The pastors also sinned against Me, and the prophets prophesied in Baal, and went after things that did not profit.
9 “Therefore, I will still plead with you,” says the LORD, “and I will plead with your children’s children.
10 “For go to the isles of Chittim and behold, and send to Kedar and take diligent heed, and see whether there are such things.
11 “Has any nation changed their gods, which yet are not gods? But My people have exchanged their glory for that which does not profit.
12 “O, you heavens, be astonished at this! Be afraid and utterly confounded,” says the LORD.
13 “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the Fountain of Living Waters, to dig themselves pits, broken pits that can hold no water.
14 “Is Israel a servant, or is he born in the house? Why is he spoiled?
15 “The lions roared upon him, yelled, and they have made his land waste. His cities are burnt, without an inhabitant.
16 “Also, the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken your head.
17 “Have you not brought this on yourself, because you have forsaken the LORD your God, when He led you by the way?
18 “And what are you now doing on the way of Egypt, to drink the water of Nilus? Or why do you take the way of Assyria, to drink the water of the River?
19 “Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you. Know, therefore, and behold that it is an evil thing, and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that My fear is not in you,” says the LORD God of Hosts.
20 “For since ancient times I have broken your yoke, burst your bonds, and you said, ‘I will transgress no more.’ But, like a harlot, you run around upon all high hills, and under all green trees.
21 “Yet, I had planted you as a noble vine, whose plants were whole. How, then, have you turned before Me into the plants of a strange vine?
22 “Though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap, your iniquity is marked before Me,” says the LORD God.
23 “How can you say, ‘I am not polluted, nor have I followed Baal?’ Behold your ways in the valley and know what you have done. You are like a swift dromedary traversing her ways,
24 “a wild donkey used to the wilderness that sniffs at the wind in her passion. Who can turn her back when in heat? All those who seek her will not weary themselves but will find her in her month.
25 “Keep your feet from bareness, and your throat from thirst. But you said desperately, ‘No, for I have loved strangers, and them will I follow.’
26 “As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the House of Israel ashamed, they, their kings, their princes and their priests, and their prophets,
27 “saying to a tree, ‘You are my father,’ and to a stone, ‘You have begotten me.’ For they have turned their back to Me, and not their face. But in the time of their trouble, they will say, ‘Arise, and help us!’
28 “But where are your gods that you have made yourself? Let them arise, if they can help you in the time of your trouble. For according to the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah.
29 “Why will you plead with Me? You all have rebelled against Me,” says the LORD.
30 “I have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your Prophets like a destroying lion.
31 “O generation, take heed to the Word of the LORD! Have I been a wilderness to Israel, or a land of darkness? Why, then, do My people say, ‘We are lords. We will come no more to You?’
32 “Can a maid forget her ornament, or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me, days without number.
33 “Why do you beautify your ways, to seek love? Therefore, you will also teach the wicked your ways.
34 “Also in your wings is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents. I have not found it in holes, but upon all these.
35 “Yet you say, ‘Because I am guiltless, surely His wrath shall turn from me.’ Behold, I will enter into judgment with you because you say, ‘I have not sinned.’
36 “Why do you run around so much to change your ways? For you shall be confounded by Egypt as you are confounded by Assyria.
37 “For you shall go forth from there, and your hands upon your head, because the LORD has rejected your confidence, and you shall not prosper thereby.”
16 Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came and tempted Him, desiring Him to show them a sign from Heaven.
2 But He answered, and said to them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘Fair weather, for the sky is red.’
3 And in the morning, ‘Storm today. For the sky is red and overcast.’ O, hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky. And can you not discern the signs of the times?
4 “The wicked and adulterous generation seeks a sign. But there shall be no sign given it, except that sign of the Prophet Jonah.” So, He left them and departed.
5 And when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
6 Then Jesus said to them, “Watch, and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have brought no bread.”
8 But Jesus, knowing it, said to them, “O, you of little faith. Why are you thinking among yourselves, ‘because you have brought no bread’?”
9 Do you still not perceive or remember the five loaves - when there were five thousand - and how many baskets did you take up;
10 “or the seven loaves - when there were four thousand - and how many baskets did you take up?
11 “How do you not understand that what I said to you was not concerning bread, but that you should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?”
12 Then they understood that He had not said that they should beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
13 Now when Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Whom do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 And they said, “Some say John Baptist; and some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the Prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But, whom do you say that I am?”
16 Then Simon Peter answered, and said, “You are the Christ; the Son of the living God.”
17 And Jesus answered, and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon, the son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but my Father Who is in Heaven.
18 “And I also say to you that you are Peter. And upon this rock I will build My Church. And the gates of Hell shall not overcome it.
19 “And I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And whatever you shall bind upon Earth, shall be bound in Heaven. And whatever you shall loose on Earth, shall be loosed in Heaven.”
20 Then He charged His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus, the Christ.
21 From that time forth, Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and the chief priests, and scribes, and be slain, and be raised again the third day.
22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Master! This shall not happen to You!”
23 Then He turned back and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me because you do not understand the things of God, but the things of men!”
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone will follow Me, let him forsake himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
25 “For whoever would save his life, shall lose it. And whoever shall lose his life, for My sake, shall find it.
26 “For what shall it profit a man if he should win the whole world, yet he loses his own soul? Or what shall a man give for recompense of his soul?
27 “For the Son of Man shall come in the Glory of his Father, with His angels. And then He shall give to everyone according to his deeds.
28 “Truly I say to you, some of those who stand here shall not taste death before they have seen the Son of Man come in His Kingdom.”
