Version
Joshua 4

And when all the people had fully gone over the Jordan (after the LORD had spoken to Joshua, saying,

“Take with you twelve men out of the people, a man out of every tribe,

“and command them, saying, ‘Take from the midst of the Jordan — out of the place where the priests stood firmly — twelve stones, which you shall take away with you. And leave them in the lodging where you shall lodge this night.’”),

then Joshua called the twelve men whom he had prepared from the children of Israel, a man out of every tribe.

And Joshua said to them, “Go over before the Ark of the LORD your God, through the midst of the Jordan. And every man take up for himself a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel.

“So that this may be a sign among you. So that when your children shall ask their fathers in times to come, saying, ‘What did you mean by these stones?’,

“then you may answer them, ‘So that the waters of the Jordan would be cut off before the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD. When it passed through the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. Therefore, these stones are a memorial to the children of Israel, forever.’”

Then the children of Israel did as Joshua had commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan — as the LORD had said to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel — and carried them away with them to the lodging and laid them down there.

And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the Ark of the Covenant stood. And there they have remained to this day.

10 So the priests who bore the Ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the LORD had commanded Joshua to say to the people, according to all that Moses charged Joshua. Then the people hurried and went over.

11 When all the people had completely passed over, the Ark of the LORD also went over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

12 And the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh went over before the children of Israel, armed, as Moses had charged them.

13 Forty thousand, prepared for war, went before the LORD to battle, into the plain of Jericho.

14 That day, the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel. And they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

15 And the LORD spoke to Joshua, saying,

16 “Command the priests who bear the Ark of the Testimony to come up out of the Jordan.”

17 Joshua, therefore, commanded the priests, saying, “Come up out of the Jordan.”

18 And when the priests who bore the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD had come up out of the midst of the Jordan, and as soon as the soles of the priests’ feet were set on the dry land, the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and flowed over all its banks, as they did before.

19 So the people came up out of the Jordan, on the tenth of the first month, and pitched in Gilgal, on the East side of Jericho.

20 Also, the twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan Joshua pitched in Gilgal.

21 And he spoke to the children of Israel, saying, “When your children shall ask their fathers in times to come, and say, ‘What do these stones mean?’,

22 “then you shall make it known to your children, and say, ‘Israel came over the Jordan on dry land.

23 ‘For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you, until you had gone over, as the LORD your God did the Red Sea (which He dried up before us until we had gone over),

24 ‘so that all the people of the world may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, so that you might fear the LORD your God continually.’”

Psalm 129-131

129 “They have oftentimes afflicted me from my youth.” (may Israel now say)

“They have oftentimes afflicted me from my youth. But they could not prevail against me.

“The plowers plowed upon my back and made long furrows.

“The righteous LORD has cut the cords of the wicked.

“Those who hate Zion shall be all ashamed and turned backward.

“They shall be as the grass on the housetops which withers before it comes forth.

“Of which the mower does not fill his hand, nor the gleaner his lap.

“Nor do those who pass by say, ‘The blessing of the LORD be upon you!’ or, ‘We bless you in the Name of the LORD!’” A song of degrees

130 Out of the deep places have I called to You, O LORD.

LORD, hear my voice. Let Your ears attend to the voice of my prayers.

If You, O LORD, straightly mark iniquities, O LORD, who shall stand?

But mercy is with You, so that You may be feared.

I have waited on the LORD. My soul has waited; and I have trusted in His word.

My soul waits on the LORD more than the morning watch watches for the morning.

Let Israel wait on the LORD, for with the LORD is mercy and with Him is great redemption.

And He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities. A song of degrees, or Psalm, of Solomon

131 LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor are my eyes lofty, nor have I proceeded in great matters and things hidden from me.

Surely, I have behaved like one weaned from his mother and kept silent. In myself, I am as one who is weaned.

Let Israel wait on the LORD from henceforth and forever. A song of degrees

Isaiah 64

64 Oh, that You would break the heavens and come down, that the mountains might melt at Your presence!

As the melting fire burned, the fire caused the waters to boil, (so that You might declare Your Name to Your adversaries) the people trembled at Your presence.

When You did terrible things, which we did not look for, You came down and the mountains melted at Your presence.

For since the beginning of the world, they have neither heard nor understood with the ear. Nor has the eye seen another God beside You Who does so to him who waits for Him.

You met him who rejoiced and did justly. They remembered You in Your ways. Behold, You are angry, for we have sinned, continually. Yet, we shall be saved.

For we have all been as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness as filthy cloths. And we all fade like a leaf. And our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

And there is no one who calls upon Your Name, or who stirs himself up to take hold of You. For You have hidden Your Face from us, and have consumed us because of our iniquities.

But now, O LORD, You are our Father. We are the clay and You are our Potter. And we all are the work of Your Hands.

Do not be angry above measure, O LORD, or remember iniquity forever. Lo, we beg You. Behold, we are all Your people.

10 Your holy cities lie desolate. Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desert.

11 The House of our Sanctuary, and of our glory, where our fathers praised You, is burnt up with fire. And all our pleasant things are wasted.

12 Will You hold Yourself still at these things, O LORD? Will You hold Your peace and afflict us above measure?

Matthew 12

12 At that time, Jesus went through the corn on a Sabbath day. And His disciples were hungry and began to pluck the ears of corn and eat.

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Behold, Your disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath!”

But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry?

“How he went into the house of God, and ate the showbread (which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests)?

“Or have you not read in the Law how that, on the Sabbath days, the priests in the Temple break the Sabbath and are blameless?

“But I say to you that here is One greater than the Temple.

“Therefore, if you knew what this meant, ‘I will have mercy and not sacrifice’, you would not have condemned the innocents.

“For the Son of Man is Lord, even of the Sabbath.”

And he departed from there and went into their synagogue.

10 And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal upon a Sabbath day?” (so that they might accuse Him)

11 And He said to them, “What man is there among you who has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath day, does not take it and lift it out?

12 “How much better, then, is a man than a sheep? Therefore, it is lawful to do well on a Sabbath day.”

13 “Then He said to the man, “Stretch forth your hand.” And he stretched it forth. And it was made whole as the other.

14 Then the Pharisees went out and conspired against Him, how they might destroy Him.

15 But Jesus, knowing of it, departed from there. And great multitudes followed Him. And He healed them all,

16 and warned them that they should not make Him known.

17 So that which was spoken by Isaiah the Prophet might be fulfilled, which says,

18 “Behold My Servant, Whom I have chosen; My Beloved in Whom My soul delights. I will put My Spirit on Him. And He shall show judgment to the Gentiles.

19 “He shall not strive, nor cry, nor shall anyone hear His voice in the streets.

20 “A bruised reed shall He not break. And a smoldering wick shall He not quench, till He brings forth judgment unto victory.

21 “And in His Name shall the Gentiles trust.”

22 Then one possessed with a demon was brought to Him, who was both blind and mute. And He healed him, so that he who was blind and mute both spoke and saw.

23 And all the people were amazed, and said, “Is not this that Son of David?”

24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This Man does not cast out demons but by Beelzebub the Prince of Demons.

25 But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to naught. And every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.

26 “So, if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then shall his kingdom endure?

27 “Also, if I cast out demons through Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? They shall therefore be your judges.

28 “But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come to you.

29 “Or else how can anyone enter into a strong man’s house and spoil his goods, unless he first binds the strong man, and then spoil his house?

30 “The one who is not with Me, is against Me. And the one who does not gather with Me, scatters.

31 “Therefore I say to you, “Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven man. But the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven man.

32 And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him. But whoever shall speak against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in the world to come.

33 “Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or else make the tree evil, and its fruit evil. For the tree is known by the fruit.

34 “O generations of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

35 “A good man brings forth good things out of the good treasure of his heart. And an evil man, out of an evil treasure, brings forth evil things.

36 “But I say to you, that of every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof on the Day of Judgment.

37 “For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.”

38 Then answered some of the scribes and Pharisees, saying, “Master, we wish to see a sign from You.”

39 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign. But no sign shall be given to it, except the sign of the Prophet Jonah.

40 “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the Earth.

41 “The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation and condemn it. For they repented at the preaching of Jonah. And behold, a Greater than Jonah is here.

42 “The Queen of the South shall rise in judgment with this generation and shall condemn it. For she came from the utmost parts of the Earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon. And behold, a Greater than Solomon is here.

43 “Now when the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, it walks throughout dry places, seeking rest, and finds none.

44 “Then it says, ‘I will return to my house, from where I came.’ And when he has come, he finds it empty, swept and garnished.

45 “Then it goes, and takes with it seven other spirits, worse than itself. And they enter in, and dwell there. And the end of that man is worse than the beginning. Even so shall it be with this wicked generation.”

46 While he was still speaking to the multitude, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, desiring to speak with him.

47 Then one said to him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to speak with you.”

48 But He answered and said to him who told Him, “Who is My mother. And who are My brothers?”

49 And He stretched forth His hand toward His disciples and said, “Behold My mother and My brothers.

50 “For whoever shall do My Father’s will (Who is in Heaven), the same is My brother and sister and mother.”
