Numbers 27

27 Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the family of Manasseh, the son of Joseph (and the names of his daughters were these: Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah)

and stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the Priest, and before the Princes, and all the assembly at the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, saying,

“Our father died in the wilderness. And he was not among the assembly of those who were assembled against the LORD in the company of Korah, but died in his sin and had no sons.

“Why should the name of our father be taken away from among his family because he has no son? Give us a possession among the brothers of our father.”

Then Moses brought their cause before the LORD.

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“The daughters of Zelophehad speak rightly. You shall give them a possession to inherit among their father’s brothers and shall turn the inheritance of their father to them.

“Also, you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall turn his inheritance to his daughter.

‘And if he has no daughter, you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.

10 ‘And if he has no brothers, you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.

11 ‘And if his father has no brothers, you shall give his inheritance to his next kinsman in his family. And he shall possess it. And this shall be to the children of Israel a Law of Judgment, as the LORD has commanded Moses.’”

12 Again, the LORD said to Moses, “Go up into the Mount of Abarim, and behold the land which I have given to the children of Israel.

13 “And when you have seen it, you shall be gathered to your people also, as Aaron your brother was gathered.

14 “For you were disobedient to My Word in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the assembly to sanctify Me in the waters before their eyes. That is the water of Meribah in Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin.”

15 Then Moses spoke to the LORD, saying,

16 “Let the LORD, God of the spirits, of all flesh, appoint a man over the Congregation,

17 “who may go out and in before them and lead them out and in, so that the Congregation of the LORD are not as sheep who have no shepherd.”

18 And the LORD said to Moses, “Take with you Joshua, the son of Nun, in whom is the Spirit. And put your hands upon him.

19 “And set him before Eleazar the Priest, and before all the Congregation. And give him a commission in their sight.

20 “And give him some of your glory, so that all the Congregation of the children of Israel may obey.

21 “And he shall stand before Eleazar the Priest, who shall ask counsel for him by the judgment of Urim, before the LORD. At his word they shall go out. And at his word they shall come in, he and all the children of Israel with him, and all the Congregation.”

22 So Moses did as the LORD had commanded him. And he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the Priest, and before all the Congregation.

23 Then he put his hands upon him and gave him a commission, as the LORD had spoken by the hand of Moses.

Psalm 70-71

70 O, God, hasten to deliver me! Hasten to help me, O LORD!

Let those who seek my soul be confounded and put to shame. Let those who desire my hurt be turned backward and put to rebuke.

Let those who say, “Aha! Aha!” be turned back for a reward of their shame.

Let all those who seek You be joyful and glad in You; and let all who love Your salvation, say always, “God be praised!”

Now I am poor and needy. O, God, hasten to me. You are my Helper and my Deliverer: O LORD, do not delay.

71 In You, O LORD, I trust. Let me never be ashamed.

Rescue me and deliver me in Your righteousness. Incline Your ear to me and save me.

Be my Strong Rock, whereto I may always resort. You have given Commandment to save me; for You are my Rock, and my Fortress.

Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the evil and cruel man.

For You are my Hope, O LORD God; my Trust from my youth.

I have been upheld by You from the womb. You are He Who took me out of my mother’s core. My praise shall be of You always.

I have become, as it were, a monster to many; but You are my sure Trust.

Let my mouth be filled with Your praise, with Your Glory, every day.

Do not cast me off in the time of old age. Do not forsake me when my strength fails.

10 For my enemies speak of me; and those who lay in wait for my soul take their counsel together,

11 saying, “God has forsaken him. Pursue and take him, for there is no one to deliver him.”

12 Do not go far from me, O God. My God, hasten to help me!

13 Let those who are against my soul be confounded and consumed. Let those who seek my hurt be covered with reproach and confusion.

14 But I will wait continually and will praise You more and more.

15 My mouth shall daily rehearse Your righteousness and Your salvation; for I do not know the number.

16 I will go forward in the strength of the LORD God. I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only.

17 O God, You have taught me from my youth even until now. I will tell of Your wondrous works;

18 Indeed, even to my old age and gray head, O God, do not forsake me until I have declared Your arm to this generation, and Your power to all those who shall come.

19 And Your righteousness, O God, I will exalt on High; for You have done great things. O God, who is like You!

20 You have shown me great troubles and adversities, but You will return and revive me; and will come again and take me up from the depth of the Earth.

21 You will increase my honor; and return and comfort me.

22 Therefore, I will praise You for Your faithfulness, O God, upon instrument and viol. To You I will sing upon the harp, O Holy One of Israel.

23 My lips will rejoice when I sing to You; and my soul, which You have delivered.

24 Also, my tongue shall daily talk of Your righteousness; for those who seek my hurt are confounded and brought to shame. A Psalm of Solomon

Isaiah 17-18

17 The burden of Damascus. “Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, for it shall be a ruinous heap.

“The cities of Aroer shall be forsaken. They shall be for the flocks. For they shall lie there, and no one shall make them afraid.

“The fortification also shall cease from Ephraim and the kingdom from Damascus. And the remnant of Aram shall be as the glory of the children of Israel,” says the LORD of Hosts.

“And on that day the glory of Jacob shall be made clean.

“And it shall be as when the harvester gathers the corn, and reaps the ears with his arm. And he shall be as him who gathers the ears in the Valley of Rephaim.

“Still, a gathering of grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the upmost boughs, four or five in the high branches of its fruit,” says the LORD God of Israel.

At that day, a man shall look to his Maker. And his eyes shall look to the Holy One of Israel.

And he shall not look to the altars, the works of his own hands. Nor shall he look to those things which his own fingers have made, as groves and images.

On that day shall the cities of their strength be as forsaken boughs and branches, which were forsaken because of the children of Israel. And there shall be desolation.

10 Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and have not remembered the God of your strength, therefore you shall plant pleasant plants and shall graft strange vine branches.

11 In the day, you shall make your plant grow. And in the morning, you shall make your seed flourish. But the harvest shall be gone on the day of sickness, with desperate sorrow.

12 Ah, the multitude of many people! They shall make a sound like the noise of the sea. For the noise of the people shall make a sound like the noise of mighty waters.

13 The people shall make a sound like the noise of many waters. But God shall rebuke them. And they shall flee far away and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and as a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

14 And lo, in the evening, there is trouble. But before morning, it is gone. This is the portion of those who plunder us, and the lot of those who rob us.

18 Oh, the land, shadowed with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia,

sending ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of reeds upon the waters, saying, “Go, you swift messengers, to a nation that is scattered abroad and plundered, to a revered people from their beginning onward, a subjugator nation whose land the rivers have spoiled!”

All you inhabitants of the world and dwellers in the Earth shall see when He sets up a sign in the mountains. And when He blows the trumpet, you shall hear.

For so the LORD said to me, “I will rest and behold in My Tabernacle, as the heat drying up the rain, as a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”

For before the harvest, when the sprout is finished and the grape is ripening in the bud, then he shall cut down the branches with hooks, and shall take away and cut off the branches.

They shall be left together for the birds of the mountains, and to the beasts of the Earth. For the bird shall summer upon it and every beast of the Earth shall winter upon it.

At that time, a present shall be brought to the LORD of Hosts (a people who is scattered abroad and plundered, and from a revered people, from their beginning onward, a subjugator nation whose land the rivers have spoiled) to the place of the Name of the LORD of Hosts: Mount Zion.

1 Peter 5

I encourage the elders among you. I am also an elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ and also a partaker of the Glory that shall be revealed.

Feed the flock of God which depends on you. Care for it - not by compulsion, but voluntarily; not greedily, but eagerly;

not as though you were Lords over God’s estate, but that you may be examples to the flock.

And when that chief Shepherd shall appear, you shall receive an incorruptible crown of Glory.

Likewise, you younger people, submit yourselves to the elders. And everyone submit yourselves one to another. Clothe yourselves inwardly in humility. For “God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.”

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time.

Cast all your cares on Him. For He cares for you.

Be sober, and watch. For your adversary, the devil, walks about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Steadfastly resist him in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brothers who are in the world.

10 And the God of all grace - Who has called us to His eternal Glory by Christ Jesus - will, after you have suffered a little, make you perfect; will confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

11 To Him be glory and dominion, forever and ever. Amen.

12 By Silvanus (a faithful brother to you, I reckon) I have written briefly, exhorting and testifying how that this in which you stand is the true grace of God.

13 She who is at Babylon, elected together with you, salutes you; and Mark, my son.

14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
