M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
22 Afterward, the children of Israel departed and pitched on the plain of Moab, on the other side of Jordan from Jericho.
2 Now Balak, the son of Zippor, saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
3 And the Moabites were very afraid of the people, because they were many. And Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.
4 Therefore, Moab said to the elders of Midian, “Now shall this multitude lick up all who are around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.” And Balak, the son of Zippor, was King of the Moabites at that time.
5 Therefore, he sent messengers to Balaam, the son of Beor, to Pethor (which is by the river of the land of the children of his folk), to call him, saying, “Behold, a people have come out of Egypt, which covers the face of the Earth and lies next to me.
6 “Please come now, therefore, and curse this people for me (for they are stronger than me) so it may be that I shall be able to strike them and to drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom You bless is blessed; and he whom You curse shall be cursed.”
7 And the elders of Moab, and the elders of Midian departed, having the rewards of the soothsaying in their hand. And they came to Balaam and told him the words of Balak,
8 who answered them, “Stay here tonight, and I will give you an answer as the LORD shall say to me.” So, the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam.
9 Then God came to Balaam, and said, “What men are these with you?”
10 And Baalam said to God, “Balak, the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent word to me, saying,
11 “‘Behold, a people comes out of Egypt and covers the face of the Earth. Come now, curse them for my sake, so it may be that I shall be able to overcome them in battle and to drive them out.’”
12 And God said to Balaam, “Do not go with them or curse the people, for they are blessed.”
13 And Balaam rose up in the morning and said to the princes of Balak, “Return to your land. For the LORD has refused to allow me to go with you.”
14 So the princes of Moab rose up and went to Balak, and said, “Balaam has refused to come with us.”
15 Still, Balak sent more Princes, even more honorable than they,
16 who came to Balaam and said to him, “Thus says Balak, the son of Zippor, ‘Please do not be deterred from coming to me.
17 “‘For I will promote you to great honor and will do whatever you say to me. Please come, therefore, and curse this people for me.’”
18 And Balaam answered, and said to the servants of Balak, “Even if Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the Word of the LORD my God to do less or more.
19 “But now, please stay here tonight, so that I may know what more the LORD will say to me.”
20 And God came to Balaam by night, and said to him, “If the men come to call you, rise up. Go with them. But you shall only do that thing which I shall say to you.”
21 So Balaam rose up early and saddled his donkey and went with the Princes of Moab.
22 And the wrath of God was kindled, because he went and the Angel of the LORD stood against him in the way as he rode upon his donkey. And his two servants were with him.
23 And when the donkey saw the Angel of the LORD stand in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand, the donkey turned off the road and went into the field. But Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back on the road.
24 Again, the Angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall on one side and a wall on the other.
25 And when the donkey saw the Angel of the LORD, she thrust herself into the wall and hit Balaam’s foot against the wall. Therefore, he struck her again.
26 Then the Angel of the LORD went further and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn, to the right or the left.
27 And when the donkey saw the Angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam. Therefore, Balaam was very angry and struck the donkey with a staff.
28 Then the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have struck me now three times?”
29 And Balaam said to the donkey, “Because you have mocked me! I wish there were a sword in my hand, for would I kill you now!”
30 And the donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey which you have ridden upon since your first time to this day? Have I ever done this to you?” Who said, “No.”
31 And the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam. And he saw the Angel of the LORD standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand. Then he bowed himself and fell flat on his face.
32 And the Angel of the LORD said to him, “Why have you now struck your donkey three times? Behold, I came out to oppose you because your way is not straight before me.
33 “But the donkey saw me and has turned from me now three times. Otherwise, if she had not turned from me, I would surely have killed you already and saved her life.”
34 Then Balaam said to the Angel of the LORD, “I have sinned. For I wish that you did not stand in the way against me. Now, therefore, if it displeases you, I will turn home again.”
35 But the Angel said to Balaam, “Go with the men. But what I say to you, that shall you speak.” So, Balaam went with the Princes of Balak.
36 And when Balak heard that Balaam came, he went out to meet him, to a city of Moab which is on the border of Arnon, on the outermost coast.
37 Then Balak said to Balaam, “Did I not send for you to call you? Why didn’t you come to me? Am I not indeed able to promote you to honor?”
38 And Balaam answered Balak, “Lo, I have come to you. And can I now say anything? The Word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.”
39 So Balaam went with Balak. And they came to the city of Huzoth.
40 Then Balak offered bullocks and sheep and sent some of them to Balaam and to the Princes who were with him.
41 And the next day, Balak took Balaam and brought him up into the high places of Baal, so that from there he might see the furthermost part of the people.
62 Yet my soul keeps silence to God. From Him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my strength and my salvation, my defense. I shall not be greatly moved.
3 How long will you imagine mischief against a man? You shall all be slain. You shall be as a bowed wall, as a wall shaken.
4 Yet, they consult to cast him down from his high position. Their delight is in lies. They bless with their mouths but curse with their hearts. Selah.
5 My soul, keep silent to God only (for my hope is from Him).
6 He alone is my strength and my salvation, my defense. I shall not be moved.
7 In God is my salvation and my glory, the rock of my strength. In God is my trust.
8 Trust in Him always, you people. Pour out your hearts before Him, God our Hope. Selah.
9 Surely, men of low degree are a vapor, and the chief men liars. To lay them upon a scale, they are altogether lighter than a breath.
10 Do not trust in oppression or in robbery. Do not be vain. If riches increase, do not set your heart thereon.
11 God has spoken once, twice I have heard it, that power belongs to God;
12 and to You, O LORD, mercy. For You reward everyone according to his work. A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah
63 O God, You are my God. I will seek You early. My soul thirsts for You. My flesh longs greatly after You in a barren and dry land, without water.
2 Thus, when I behold Your power and Your Glory, I behold You as in the Sanctuary.
3 For Your lovingkindness is better than life. My lips shall praise You.
4 Thus will I magnify You all my life and lift up my hands in Your Name.
5 My soul shall be satisfied, as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips,
6 When I remember You on my bed, I think upon You in the night watches.
7 Therefore, because You have been my helper, I will rejoice under the shadow of Your wings.
8 My soul clings to You. Your right hand upholds me.
9 Therefore, those who seek my soul to destroy it, they shall go into the lowest parts of the Earth.
10 They shall cast him down with the edge of the sword. They shall be a portion for foxes.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God. All who swear by Him shall rejoice. For the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped. To him who excels: A Psalm of David
11 But there shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse. And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
2 And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him—the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the LORD—
3 and shall make Him prudent in the fear of the LORD. For He shall not judge after the sight of His eyes, nor rebuke by the hearing of His ears.
4 But with righteousness, He shall judge the lowly. And with equality, He shall rebuke for the poor of the Earth. And He shall strike the Earth with the rod of His Mouth. And with the Breath of His Lips shall He slay the wicked.
5 And justice shall be the belt of His loins, and faithfulness the belt of His reins.
6 The wolf, also, shall dwell with the lamb. And the leopard shall lie with the kid and the calf and the lion and the fat beast, together. And a little child shall lead them.
7 And the cow and the bear shall feed. Their young ones shall lie together. And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8 And the sucking child shall play upon the hole of the asp. And the weaned child shall put his hand upon the viper’s hole.
9 Then shall no one hurt or destroy in all the mountain of My Holiness. For the Earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters that cover the sea.
10 And on that day the Root of Jesse which shall stand up for a sign to the people, the nations shall seek It. And His rest shall be glorious.
11 And on the same day the LORD shall stretch out His Hand again a second time, to possess the remnant of His people who shall be left: of Assyria and of Egypt and of Pathros and of Ethiopia and of Elam and of Shinar and of Hamath and of the isles of the sea.
12 And He shall set up a sign to the Nations, and assemble the dispersed of Israel, and gather the scattered of Judah from the four corners of the world.
13 The hatred, also, of Ephraim shall depart. And the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off. Ephraim shall not envy Judah, nor shall Judah trouble Ephraim.
14 But they shall flee upon the shoulders of the Philistines, toward the West. They shall spoil those of the East together. They shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab and hear the children of Ammon.
15 The LORD, also, shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian’s sea. And with His mighty wind He shall lift up His Hand over the river, and shall strike him in seven streams, and cause men to walk with shoes.
16 And there shall be a path to the remnant of His people who are left in Assyria, like it was to Israel on the day that He came up out of the land of Egypt.
12 And you shall say on that day, “O Lord, I will praise You! Though You were angry with me, Your wrath has turned away, and You comfort me!
2 “Behold, God, my salvation! I will trust and will not fear! For the LORD God is my strength and song. He has also become my salvation!”
3 Therefore, with joy shall you draw waters out of the wells of salvation.
4 And you shall say on that day, “Praise the LORD! Call upon His Name! Declare His works among the people! Make mention of them, for His Name is exalted!
5 “Sing to the LORD! For He has done excellent things! This is known in all the world!
6 “Cry out, and shout, O inhabitant of Zion! For great is the Holy One of Israel, in the midst of you.”
5 Come now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupt, and your garments are moth-eaten.
3 Your gold and silver are corroded. And the rust of them shall be a witness against you and shall eat your flesh as if it were fire. You have heaped up treasure for the last days.
4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who have reaped your fields cry out (those which are fraudulently withheld by you). And the cries of those reapers are entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts.
5 You have lived in pleasure on the Earth and been riotous. You have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
6 You have condemned and have killed the just. And he has not resisted you.
7 Therefore brothers, be patient until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth (and has long patience for it) until he receives the early and the late rain.
8 Therefore, you also be patient, and settle your hearts. For the coming of the Lord draws near.
9 Do not groan against one another, brothers, lest you be condemned. Behold, the judge stands before the door.
10 My brothers, take the Prophets as an example of suffering adversity and of long patience, who have spoken in the Name of the Lord.
11 Behold, we count those blessed who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job and have known what end the Lord made. For the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.
12 But before all things, my brothers, do not swear - not by Heaven, nor by Earth, nor by any other oath. But let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’ and your ‘no’, ‘no’, lest you fall into condemnation.
13 Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing.
14 Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church. And let them pray for him and anoint him with oil in the Name of the Lord.
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick. And the Lord shall raise him up. And if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven.
16 Acknowledge your faults one to another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. For the fervent prayers of the righteous avail much.
17 Elijah was a man subject to similar passions as we are. And he prayed earnestly that it might not rain. And it did not rain on the Earth for three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again. And the heaven gave rain, and the Earth brought forth her fruit.
19 Brothers, if any of you have erred from the truth, and someone has converted him,
20 let him know that the one who has returned a sinner from wandering shall save a soul from death and shall hide a multitude of sins.
