Numbers 17-18

17 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“Speak to the children of Israel and take a branch from every one of them, after the House of their fathers, from all their princes, according to the family of their fathers (twelve branches). You shall write every man’s name upon his branch.

“And write Aaron’s name upon the branch of Levi. For every branch shall be for the head of the House of their fathers.

“And you shall put them in the Tabernacle of the Congregation, before the Ark of the Testimony, where I will declare Myself to you.

“And the man’s branch whom I choose shall blossom. And I will make the complaints of the children of Israel cease from Me, which they bring against you.”

Then Moses spoke to the children of Israel. And all their Princes gave him a branch, one branch for every Prince, according to the Houses of their fathers, twelve branches. And the branch of Aaron was among their branches.

And Moses laid the branches before the LORD in the Tabernacle of the Testimony.

And when Moses went into the Tabernacle of the Testimony the next day, behold, the branch of Aaron (for the House of Levi) had budded and brought forth buds, and brought forth blossoms and bare ripe almonds.

Then Moses brought out all the branches from before the LORD to all the children of Israel. And they looked at them. And every man took his branch.

10 Afterward, the LORD said to Moses, “Bring Aaron’s branch before the Testimony again, to be kept as a token to the rebellious children. And you shall cause their murmurings to cease from Me, so that they do not die.”

11 So Moses did as the LORD had commanded him. So did he.

12 And the children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying, “Behold, we are dead. We perish. We are all lost!

13 “Whoever comes near or approaches the Tabernacle of the LORD, shall die. Shall we be consumed with death?”

18 And the LORD said to Aaron, “You and your sons, and your father’s House with you, shall bear the iniquity of the Sanctuary. Both you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity of your Priest’s office.

“And also bring with you your brothers from the tribe of Levi, of the family of your father, who shall be joined with you and minister to you. But you and your sons with you shall minister before the Tabernacle of the Testimony.

“And they shall keep My charge, even the charge of all the Tabernacle. But they shall not come near the instruments of the Sanctuary, nor to the Altar, lest they die, both they and you.

“And they shall be joined with you and keep the charge of the Tabernacle of the Congregation for all the service of the Tabernacle. And no stranger shall come near to you.

“Therefore, you shall keep the charge of the Sanctuary, and the charge of the Altar, so no more wrath

“For lo, I have taken your brothers, the Levites, from among the children of Israel (who, as a gift of yours, are given to the LORD, to do the service of the Tabernacle of the Congregation).

“But you, and your sons with you, shall keep your Priest’s office for all things of the Altar, and within the Veil. Therefore, you shall serve. I have made your Priest’s office an office of service. Therefore, the stranger who comes near shall be killed.”

Again the LORD spoke to Aaron, “Behold, I have given you the keeping of My Offerings, of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel. I have given them to you for the anointing’s sake, and to your sons, for a perpetual Ordinance.

“This shall be yours of the Most Holy things, reserved from the fire. All their offering of all their Meat Offering and of all their Sin Offering and of all their Trespass Offering, which they bring to Me, that shall be Most Holy to you, and to your sons.

10 “You shall eat it in the Most Holy Place. Every male shall eat from it. It is Holy to you.

11 “This also shall be yours: the Heave Offering of their gift, with all the Shake Offerings of the children of Israel. I have given them to you, and to your sons and to your daughters with you, to be a duty forever. All the clean in your house shall eat from it.

12 “All the fat of the oil and all the fat of the wine, and of the wheat, which they shall offer to the LORD for their firstfruits, I have given them to you.

13 “And the first ripe of all that is in their land which they shall bring to LORD shall be yours. All the clean in your house shall eat from it.

14 “Everything separate from the common use in Israel shall be yours.

15 “All that first opens the womb of any flesh which they shall offer to the LORD, of man or beast, shall be yours. But the firstborn of man you shall redeem, and the firstborn of the unclean beast you shall redeem.

16 “And those who are to be redeemed you shall redeem from the age of a month (according to your estimation) for the sum of five shekels, after the shekel of the Sanctuary, which is twenty gerahs.

17 “But the firstborn of a cow, or the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a goat you shall not redeem. They are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood at the Altar. And you shall burn their fat. It is a sacrifice made by fire for a sweet savor to the LORD.

18 “And the flesh of them shall be yours, as the shake breast and as the right shoulder shall be yours.

19 “All the Heave Offerings of the holy things which the children of Israel shall offer to the LORD I have given you, and your sons, and your daughters with you, to be a duty forever. It is a perpetual Covenant of Salt before the LORD, to you and to your seed with you.”

20 And the LORD said to Aaron, “You shall have no inheritance in their land. Nor shall you have any portion among them. I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel.

21 “For behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tithes in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve in the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

22 “Nor shall the children of Israel come near the Tabernacle of the Congregation anymore, lest they sustain sin and die.

23 “But the Levites shall do the service in the Tabernacle of the Congregation; and they shall bear their sin. It is a Law, forever, in your generations, that among the children of Israel they possess no inheritance.

24 “For the tithes of the children of Israel, which they shall offer as an offering to the LORD, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance. Therefore, I have said to them, ‘You shall possess no inheritance among the children of Israel.’”

25 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

26 “Also speak to the Levites, and say to them, “When you shall take the tithes from the children of Israel, which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall take a Heave Offering of it for the LORD (one tenth of the tithe).

27 “And your Heave Offering shall be reckoned to you as the corn of the barn or as the abundance of the winepress.

28 “So you shall also offer a Heave Offering to the LORD from all your tithes which you shall receive from the children of Israel. And you shall give the LORD’s Heave Offering from it to Aaron the Priest.

29 “You shall offer all the LORD’s Heave Offerings from all your gifts. From all the fat of them you shall offer the holy things.

30 “Therefore, you shall say to them, ‘When you have offered the fat of them, then it shall be counted to the Levites as the increase of the corn floor or as the increase of the winepress.

31 ‘And you shall eat it in all places, you and your households, for it is your wages for your service in the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

32 ‘And you shall bear no sin by reason of it, when you have offered the fat of it. Nor shall you pollute the holy things of the children of Israel, lest you die.’”

Psalm 55

55 Hear my prayer, O God, and do not hide Yourself from my supplication.

Hear me and answer me. I mourn in my prayer and make a noise

for the voice of the enemy, for the troubling of the wicked; because they have brought iniquity upon me and furiously hate me.

My heart trembles within me; and the terrors of death have fallen upon me.

Fear and trembling have come upon me; and a horrible fear has covered me.

And I said, “Oh that I had wings like a dove! Then I would fly away and rest!

“Behold, I would wander far off and lodge in the wilderness. Selah.

“He would hurry for my deliverance from the stormy wind and tempest.”

Destroy, O LORD, and divide their tongues; for I have seen cruelty and strife in the city.

10 Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof. Both iniquity and mischief are in the midst of it.

11 Wickedness is in the midst thereof. Deceit and guile do not depart from her streets.

12 Surely my enemy did not defame me (for I could have borne it); nor did my adversary exalt himself against me (for I would have hidden myself from him).

13 But it was you, O man, even my companion, my guide, and my intimate.

14 We delighted in consulting together; and went into the House of God as companions.

15 Let death seize them. Let them go down quick into the grave; for wickedness is in their dwellings, even in the midst of them.

16 I will call to God and the LORD will save me.

17 Evening and morning, and at noon, I will pray and make a noise; and He will hear my voice.

18 He has delivered my soul in peace from the battle against me, for many were with me.

19 God shall hear and afflict them, even He Who reigns of old. Selah. Because they do not change, therefore they do not fear God.

20 He laid his hand upon such who are at peace with Him. He broke His Covenant.

21 The words of his mouth were softer than butter; yet war was in his heart. His words were more gentle than oil; yet they were swords.

22 Cast your burden upon the LORD, and He shall nourish you. He will not allow the righteous to fall forever.

23 And You, O God, shall bring them down into the pit of corruption. The bloody and deceitful men shall not live half their days. But I will trust in You. To him who excels: A Psalm of David on Michtam, concerning the dumb dove in a far country, when the Philistines took him in Gath

Isaiah 7

And in the days of Ahaz, the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah (king of Judah), Rezin, the king of Aram, came up—and Pekah, the son of Remaliah, king of Israel—to Jerusalem, to fight against it. But he could not overcome it.

And it was told to the House of David, saying, “Aram has joined with Ephraim.” Therefore, his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest are moved by the wind.

Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go forth now to meet Ahaz (you and Shear-Jashub, your son), at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, in the path of the fuller’s field,

“and say to him, ‘Take heed, and be still. Do not fear or be fainthearted because of the two tails of these smoking firebrands, because of the furious wrath of Rezin and of Aram and of Remaliah’s son.’

“Because Aram has taken wicked counsel against you, Ephraim and Remaliah’s son, saying,

‘Let us go up against Judah. And let us wake them up and make a breach therein for ourselves and set a king in the midst thereof: the son of Tabel.’”

Thus says the LORD God: “It shall not stand, nor shall it be.

“For the head of Aram is Damascus. And the head of Damascus is Rezin. And within sixty-five years, Ephraim shall be destroyed from being a people.

“And the head of Ephraim is Samaria. And the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If you do not believe, surely you shall not be established.”

10 And the LORD spoke again to Ahaz, saying,

11 “Ask for a sign for yourself from the LORD your God. Ask it in the depth beneath or in the height above.”

12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I tempt the LORD.”

13 Then he said, “Hear now, O House of David. It is a small thing for you to grieve men. But will you also grieve my God?”

14 “Therefore the LORD Himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son. And she shall call His Name, ‘Immanuel’.

15 “Butter and honey shall He eat, until He has knowledge to refuse evil and to choose good.

16 “For before the Child shall have knowledge to eschew evil, and to choose good, the land that you abhor shall be forsaken by both her kings.

17 “The LORD shall bring the king of Assyria upon you, and upon your people, and your Father’s House (days that have not come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah).”

18 And on that day shall the LORD whistle for the fly that is at the uttermost parts of the streams of Egypt, and for the bee which is in the land of Assyria.

19 And they shall come and shall all light in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorny places, and upon all bushy places.

20 On that day shall the LORD shave with a hired razor, by those beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head and the hair of the feet. And it shall consume the beard.

21 And on the same day shall a man nourish a young cow and two sheep.

22 And because of the abundance of milk that they shall give, he shall eat butter. For everyone shall eat butter and honey which is left within the land.

23 And on the same day that every place which once had a thousand vines sold for a thousand pieces of silver, shall be briers and thorns.

24 With arrows and with bow shall one come there, because all the land shall be briers and thorns.

25 But on all the mountains which shall be dug with the mattock, the fear of briers and thorns shall not come. But they shall be for the sending out of bullocks, and for the treading of sheep.

James 1

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings.

My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into diverse trials,

knowing that the trying of your faith brings forth patience.

And let patience have her perfect work, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, Who gives liberally to all and reproaches no one. And it shall be given him.

But let him ask in faith, and do not waver. For the one who wavers is like a wave of the sea, tossed by the wind and carried away.

Do not let that man think he shall receive anything from the Lord.

A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Let the brother of low degree rejoice, in that he is exalted;

10 likewise the one who is rich, in that he is made low. For as the flower of the grass, he shall vanish away.

11 For when the Sun rises with heat, the grass withers, its flower falls away and its good shape perishes. So, also, shall the rich man wither away in all his ways.

12 Blessed is the man who endures trials. For when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God.” For God cannot be tempted with evil, nor does He tempt anyone.

14 But everyone is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and is enticed.

15 Then, when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin. And sin, when it is completed, brings forth death.

16 Make no mistake, my dear brothers.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with Whom there is no change or turning shadow.

18 Of His own will He begat us with the Word of Truth, so that we would be as the firstfruits of His creatures.

19 Therefore my dear brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.

20 For the wrath of man does not accomplish the righteousness of God.

21 Therefore, put aside all filthiness and abundance of wickedness. In humility, receive the Word implanted in you which is able to save your souls.

22 And be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

23 For if any hear the Word, and does not do it, he is like a man who beholds his natural face in a mirror.

24 For after he has looked at himself, he goes his way and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

25 But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues therein (not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work), he shall be blessed in his deed.

26 If anyone among you seems religious but does not refrain his tongue and deceives his own heart, their religion is vain.

27 Religion, pure and undefiled before God (even the Father) is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their adversity, and to keep oneself undefiled by the world.
