Exodus 21

21 “Now, these are the laws which you shall set before them:

“If you buy a Hebrew servant, he shall serve six years; and in the seventh, he shall go out free, for nothing.

“If he came by himself, he shall go out by himself. If he is married, then his wife shall go out with him.

“If his master has given him a wife, and she has borne him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s. But he shall go out by himself.

“But, if the servant says this: ‘I love my master, my wife and my children, I will not go out free,’

“then his master shall bring him to the judges and bring him to the door (or to the post) and his master shall pierce his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him forever.

“Likewise, if a man sells his daughter to be a servant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.

“If she does not please her master, who has betrothed her to himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no power to sell her to a strange people, seeing he has deceived her.

“But, if he has betrothed her to his son, he shall deal with her according to the custom of the daughters.

10 “If he takes another wife, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, or her conjugal rights.

11 “And if he does not do these three things for her, then she shall go out free, paying no money.

12 “He who strikes a man, and he dies, shall die the death.

13 “But, if a man did not lie in wait, but God offered him into his hand, then I will appoint a place where he shall flee.

14 “But, if a man comes presumptuously upon his neighbor, to kill him with craftiness, you shalt take him from My altar, so that he may die.

15 “Also, he who strikes his father or his mother, shall die the death.

16 “And, he who steals a man and sells him, or if he is found with him, shall die the death.

17 “And, he who curses his father or his mother, shall die the death.

18 “Also, when men strive together and one strikes another with a stone, or with the fist, and he does not die, but is bedridden,

19 “if he rises again and walks outside with his staff, then he who struck him shall be acquitted. He shall only pay his charges for his idle time and shall pay for his healing.

20 “And if a man strikes his servant (or his maid) with a rod, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished.

21 “But, if he endures for a day, or two days, he shall not be punished. For he is his money.

22 “Also, if men strive and hurt a woman with child, so that her child departs from her, but death does not follow, he shall surely be punished according to the woman’s husband’s demands, or he shall pay as the judges determine.

23 “But, if death does follow, then you shall pay life for life,

24 “eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

25 “burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

26 “And if a man strikes his servant in the eye, or his maid in the eye, and has destroyed it, he shall let him go free because of his eye.

27 “Also, if he knocks out his servant’s tooth, or his maid’s tooth, he shall let him go out free because of his tooth.

28 “If an ox gores a man or a woman so that he dies, the ox shall be stoned to death and his flesh shall not be eaten. But the owner of the ox shall be acquitted.

29 If the ox was known to push in times past and it has been told to his master and he has not controlled him. And if afterward, he kills a man or a woman, the ox shall be stoned; and his owner shall die also.

30 “If a sum of money is imposed upon him, then he shall pay the ransom for his life, whatever shall be laid upon him.

31 “Whether it has gored a son or gored a daughter, it shall be judged in the same manner.

32 “If the ox gores a servant or a maid, he shall give their master thirty shekels of silver; and the ox shall be stoned.

33 “And when a man opens a well (or when he digs a pit) and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls therein,

34 “the owner of the pit shall make it good, giving money to the owner thereof. And the dead beast shall become his.

35 “And if a man’s ox hurts his neighbor’s ox, so that he dies, then they shall sell the live ox and divide the money thereof; and they shall also divide the dead ox.

36 “Or if it is known that the ox tended to push in times past, and his master has not controlled him, he shall pay ox for ox; but the dead shall become his own.”

Luke 24

24 Now, early in the morning on the first day of the week, they (and some women with them) came to the sepulcher and brought the spices which they had prepared.

And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher.

And they went in but did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

And it happened that (as they were perplexed by this) behold, two men suddenly stood by them in shining garments.

And being afraid, they bowed their faces down to the Earth. They said to them, “Why do you seek Him who lives among the dead?

“He is not here but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,

saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful man, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

And they remembered his words,

and returned from the sepulcher, and told all these things to the eleven, and to all the remnant.

10 Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women with them who told these things to the Apostles.

11 But their words seemed like nonsense to them, and they did not believe them.

12 Then Peter arose and ran to the sepulcher and looked in and saw the linen clothes laid by themselves. And he departed, wondering to himself what had happened.

13 And behold, that same day two of them went to a town called Emmaus, which was about sixty furlongs from Jerusalem.

14 And they talked together of all these things that had happened.

15 And it happened that as they talked together, and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them.

16 But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him.

17 And He said to them, “What kind of conversations are these that you are having as you walk and are sad?”

18 And the one named Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You only a stranger in Jerusalem, and have not known the things which have happened there in these days?”

19 And He said to them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “Of Jesus of Nazareth, Who was a Prophet, mighty in deed and in word before God and all people.

20 “And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death and have crucified Him.

21 “But we had hoped that it was He Who would deliver Israel. And today is the third day since all these things happened.

22 “Indeed, and some women among us (who came early to the sepulcher) astonished us.

23 “And when they did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels. Who said that He was alive.

24 “Therefore, some of them who were with us went to the sepulcher and found it just as the women had said. But they did not see Him.”

25 Then He said to them, “O fools! And slow of heart to believe all that the Prophets have spoken!

26 “Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His Glory?”

27 And He began at Moses, and at all the Prophets, and interpreted for them the things which were written of Him in all the Scriptures.

28 And they drew near to the town where they were going. And He pretended like He was going further.

29 But they urged Him, saying, “Stay with us! For it is towards evening, and the day is far spent!” So, He went in to stay with them.

30 And it happened that as He sat at table with them, He took the bread, and blessed it and broke it, and gave it to them.

31 Then their eyes were opened. And they knew Him. And He vanished.

32 And they said among themselves, “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked with us along the way and when He opened the Scriptures to us?”

33 And they rose up that same hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together,

34 who said, “The Lord has indeed risen and has appeared to Simon!”

35 Then they told them what had happened along the way, and how He was known by them in the breaking of bread.

36 And as they spoke these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them and said to them, “Peace to you.”

37 But they were terrified and full of fear, thinking that they had seen a spirit.

38 Then He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?

39 “Look at My hands and My feet. For it is I, Myself. Touch Me and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

40 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and feet.

41 And while they still did not believe for joy, and wondered, He said to them, “Do you have any food here?”

42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb.

43 And He took it and ate before them.

44 And He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you - that all which is written of Me in the Law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms, must be fulfilled.

45 Then He opened their minds, so that they might understand the Scriptures.

46 And said to them, “Thus is it written. And thus it was necessary for Christ to suffer and to rise again from the dead the third day,

47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His Name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 “Now, you are witnesses of these things.

49 And behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are filled with power from on high.”

50 Afterward, He led them out into Bethany, and lifted up His hands and blessed them.

51 And it happened that, as He blessed them, He departed from them and was carried up into Heaven.

52 And they worshipped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,

53 and were continually in the Temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

Job 39

39 “Will you hunt the prey for the lion? Or fill the appetite of the lion’s whelps

“when they crouch in their places, and remain in the lair to lie in wait?

“Who provides game for the raven when its offspring cry to God, and wander for lack of food?

“Do you know the time when the wild goats bring forth young? Do you mark when the hinds calve?

“Can you number the months that they fulfill? Or do you know the time when they bring forth?

“They bow themselves. They bruise their young and cast out their sorrows.

“Their young grow fat and grow up with grain. They go forth and do not return to them.

“Who has set the wild donkey at liberty? Or who has loosed the bonds of the wild donkey,

“who has made the wilderness his house, and the salt places his dwellings?

10 He derides the multitude of the city. He does not hear the cry of the driver.

11 “He seeks out the mountain for his pasture, and searches after every green thing.

12 “Will the wild ox serve you? Or will he wait by your crib?

13 “Can you bind the wild ox with his band in the furrow? Or will he plow the valleys after you?

14 “Will you trust in him, because his strength is great, and cast off your labor to him?

15 “Will you believe in him, that he will bring home your seed and gather it into your barn?

16 “Did you give the pleasant wings to the peacocks, or wings and feathers to the ostrich,

17 “which leaves its eggs in the earth, and makes them warm in the dust,

18 “and forgets that the foot might scatter them, or that the wild beast might break them?

19 “She shows herself cruel to her young ones, as if they were not hers. Yet, she is without concern, though she travailed in vain.

20 “For God has deprived her of wisdom and has given her no part of understanding.

21 “When time, she mounts on high. She mocks the horse and its rider.

22 “Have you given the horse strength, covered its neck with a mane?

23 “Have you made him afraid, as the grasshopper? His strong snorting is fearful.

24 “He digs in the valley and rejoices in strength. He goes forth to meet the armoured.

25 “He mocks at fear, and is not afraid, and does not turn back from the sword.

26 “The quiver rattles against him and the glittering spear and the shield.

27 “He swallows the ground from fierceness and rage, and he does not believe that it is the noise of the trumpet.

28 “He says among the trumpets, ‘Ha, ha!’ He smells the battle far off, and the noise of the captains, and the shouting.

29 “Shall the hawk fly by your wisdom, his wings toward the South?

30 “Does the eagle mount up at your commandment, or make his nest on high?

31 “She abides and remains in the rock, upon the top of the rock, and the tower.

32 “From there she spies for food. Her eyes look far away.

33 “Her young ones also suck up blood. And where the slain are, there she is.”

34 Moreover the LORD spoke to Job, and said,

35 “Shall he who strives with the Almighty instruct? He who reproves God, let him answer for it.”

36 Then Job answered the LORD, saying,

37 “Behold, I am vile. What shall I answer You? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.

38 “I have spoken once, but I will answer no more. Indeed, twice, but I will proceed no further.”

2 Corinthians 9

Now, as far as the ministry to the Saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you.

For I know your readiness of mind, of which I boast to the Macedonians myself, saying that Achaia was prepared a year ago. And your zeal has incited many.

Now, I have sent the brothers (lest our boasting over you should be in vain in this matter), that you (as I have said) be ready.

Or else perhaps the Macedonians might come with me and find you unprepared, so that we (and not you) should be ashamed by my constant boasting.

Therefore, I thought it necessary to exhort the brothers to come to you beforehand, and to finish your previously-promised blessing, that it might be ready and be received as a blessing (not with greed).

But remember this: whoever sows sparingly, shall also reap sparingly. And whoever sows liberally, shall also reap liberally.

As everyone purposes in his heart, so let him give (not grudgingly or of necessity). For God loves a cheerful giver.

And God is able to make all grace to abound toward you. So that you always - having all sufficiency in all things - may abound in every good work,

As it is written, “He has scattered abroad and has given to the poor. His benevolence remains forever.”

10 Also, He Who supplies seed to the sower will likewise provide bread for food and multiply your seed and increase the fruits of your righteousness,

11 that you may be enriched in every way unto all simplicity, which causes thanksgiving to God through us.

12 For the ministry of this service not only supplies the necessities of the Saints, but also abundantly causes many to give thanks to God,

13 who, by the trials of this ministry, praise God for your voluntary submission to the Gospel of Christ and for your liberal sharing with them and to all.

14 And in their prayer for you, they long after you greatly, for the abundant grace of God in you.

15 Therefore, thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift.
