M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
44 Afterward, he commanded his steward, saying, “Fill the men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry; and put every man’s money in his sack’s mouth.
2 “And put my cup (I mean, the silver cup) in the sack’s mouth of the youngest, and his corn money.” And he did according to the commandment that Joseph gave.
3 And in the morning, the men were sent away (they and their donkeys).
4 And when they had not gone far out of the city, Joseph said to his steward, “Up! Follow after the men. And when you catch up to them, say, “Why have you rewarded evil for good?
5 “Is not that the cup wherein my lord drinks and in which he divines and prophesies? You have done evil by doing this!”
6 And when he caught up to them, he said these words to them.
7 And they answered him, “Why does my lord say such words? God forbid that your servants should do such a thing.
8 “Behold, we brought back to you (from the land of Canaan) the money which we found in our sacks’ mouths. Why, then, would we steal silver or gold out of your lord’s house?
9 “With whomever of your servants it is found, let him die; and we, also, will be my lord’s slaves.”
10 And he said, “Now then let it be as you say. He with whom it is found shall be my servant; and you shall be blameless.”
11 Then, at once, every man took down his sack to the ground; and everyone opened his sack.
12 And he searched and began at the eldest and finished at the youngest. And the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.
13 Then they tore their clothes; and every man loaded his donkey and went again into the city.
14 So, Judah and his brothers came to Joseph’s house (for he was still there); and they fell on the ground before him.
15 Then Joseph said to them, “What act is this which you have done? Do you not know that such a man as I can divine and prophesy?”
16 Then Judah said, “What shall we say to my lord? What shall we speak? And how can we justify ourselves? God has revealed the wickedness of your servants. Behold, we are servants to my lord, both we and he with whom the cup is found.”
17 But he answered, “May it never be that I should do so. The man with whom the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and you shall go in peace to your father.”
18 Then Judah drew near to him, and said, “Oh my lord, let your servant now speak a word in my lord’s ears; and do not let your wrath be kindled against your servant. For you are just as Pharaoh.
19 “My lord asked his servants, saying, ‘Do you have a father or a brother?’
20 “And we answered my lord, ‘We have a father who is old, and a young child whom he begat in his old age. And his brother is dead; and he is the only surviving son of his mother. And his father loves him.’
21 “Now you said to your servants, ‘Bring him to me, so that I may set my eye upon him.’
22 “And we answered my lord, ‘The child cannot leave his father. For if he leaves him, his father will die.’
23 “Then you said to your servants, ‘Unless your younger brother comes down with you, you will look in my face no more.’
24 “So, when we came to your servant, our father, we showed him what my lord had said.
25 “And our father said to us, ‘Go back. Buy us a little food.’
26 “Then we answered, ‘We cannot go down. But, if our youngest brother goes with us, then will we go down. For we may not see the man’s face unless our youngest brother is with us.’
27 “Then your servant, my father, said to us, ‘You know that my wife bore me two sons.
28 ‘And one went out from me, and I said, “Surely he is torn in pieces.” And I have not seen him since.
29 ‘Now you also take this away from me. If death takes him, then you shall bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow.’
30 “Now, therefore, when I shall come to your servant, my father, and the child is not with us (seeing that his life depends on the child’s life),
31 “then (when he shall see that the child has not come) he will die. So shall your servants bring down the gray head of your servant, our father, to the grave with sorrow.
32 “Doubtless, your servant became surety for the child to my father; and, if I do not bring him back to you, then I will bear the blame to my father forever.
33 “Now, therefore, please let me, your servant, stand in for the child (as a servant to my lord) and let the child go up with his brothers.
34 “For how can I go up to my father if the child is not with me, lest I would see the evil that shall come on my father.”
14 And two days before the Feast of the Passover, and of Unleavened Bread, the chief priests and scribes sought how they might take Jesus secretly, and put Him to death.
2 “But,” they said, “Not on the feast day, or else there may be unrest among the people.”
3 And when He was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at table, there came a woman with a box of ointment (of spikenard, very costly). And she broke the box and poured it on His head.
4 Therefore some whispered angrily among themselves, and said, “To what end is this waste of ointment?
5 “For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denari, and the money given to the poor.” And they murmured against her.
6 But Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you trouble yourselves with her? She has done a good work for Me.
7 “For you have the poor with you always. And when you will you may do them good. But Me you shall not have always.
8 “She has done what she could. She came beforehand to anoint My body for the burying.
9 “Truly I say to you, wherever this Gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she has done, shall be spoken of in remembrance of her.”
10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests, to betray Him to them.
11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised that they would give him money. Therefore, he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.
12 Now the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover, His disciples said to Him, “Where will You have us go and prepare, that You may eat the Passover?”
13 Then He sent forth two of His disciples, and said to them, “Go into the city, and there a man shall meet you bearing a pitcher of water. Follow him.
14 “And wherever he goes in, say to the good man of the house, ‘The Master says, “Where is the lodging where I shall eat the Passover with My disciples?”’
15 “And he will show you an upper chamber, which is large, trimmed and prepared. Make it ready for us there.”
16 So His disciples went forth, and came to the city, and found all as He had said to them, and made ready the Passover.
17 And in the evening, He came with the twelve.
18 And as they sat at table and ate, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, that one of you who eats with Me shall betray Me.”
19 Then they began to be sorrowful and to say to Him one by one, “Is it I?” And another, “Is it I?”
20 And He answered and said to them, “It is one of the twelve who dips with Me in the platter.
21 “Truly the Son of Man goes His way, as it is written of Him. But woe be to that man, by whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It had been good for that man if he had never been born.”
22 And as they ate, Jesus took the bread. And when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them and said, “Take. Eat. This is My body.”
23 Also, He took the cup. And when He had given thanks, He gave it to them. And they all drank of it.
24 And He said to them, “This is My blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many.
25 “Truly I say to you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine until that day that I drink it new, in the Kingdom of God.”
26 And when they had sung a Psalm, they went out to the mount of Olives.
27 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you shall desert Me this night. For it is written, ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.’
28 “But after I am risen, I will go into Galilee before you.”
29 And Peter said to Him, “Although all men should desert You, yet would not I!”
30 Then Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, this day, even this night, before the cock crows twice, you shall deny Me three times.”
31 But he said more earnestly, “If I should die with You, I will not deny You!” And so said they all.
32 Afterward, they came into a place named Gethsemane. Then He said to His disciples, “Sit here, till I have prayed.”
33 And He took with him Peter, and James, and John. And He began to be troubled and in great heaviness.
34 And He said to them, “My soul is very heavy, even to the death. Wait here, and watch.”
35 So He went forward a little, and fell down on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible that hour might pass from Him.
36 And He said, “Abba, Father. All things are possible for You. Take away this cup from Me. Nevertheless, not that I will, but that You will, be done.”
37 Then He came, and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon! Asleep? Could you not watch one hour!?
38 “Watch. And pray. So that you do not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is ready, but the flesh is weak.”
39 And again He went away, and prayed, and spoke the same words.
40 And He returned and found them asleep again. For their eyes were heavy, nor did they know what they should answer Him.
41 And He came the third time and said to them, “Sleep on now, and take your rest. It is enough. The hour has come. Behold, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.
42 “Rise up! Let us go! Lo, he who betrays Me is here!”
43 And immediately, while He was still speaking, came Judas (who was one of the twelve) and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs from the chief priests and scribes and elders.
44 And he who betrayed Him had given them a signal, saying, “Whoever I shall kiss, it is He. Take Him and lead Him away safely.”
45 And as soon as he had come, he went immediately to Him, and said, “Hail, Master,” and kissed Him.
46 Then they laid their hands on Him and took Him.
47 And one of them who stood by drew out a sword and struck a servant of the High Priest and cut off his ear.
48 And Jesus answered and said to them, “You’ve come out as against a thief, with swords and with clubs, to take Me.
49 “I was with you daily, teaching in the Temple, and you did not take Me. But this is done so that the Scriptures would be fulfilled.”
50 Then they all deserted Him and fled.
51 And a certain young man followed Him, clothed in linen upon his bare body. And they seized him.
52 But he left his linen cloth and fled from them naked.
53 So they led Jesus away to the High Priest. And all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together to Him.
54 And Peter followed Him at a distance, even into the hall of the High Priest, and sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put Him to death but found none.
56 For many bore false witness against Him. But their testimonies did not agree.
57 Then some of them arose and bore false witness against Him, saying,
58 “We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this Temple made with hands. And within three days I will build another, made without hands.’”
59 But their testimonies did not agree.
60 Then the High Priest stood up amongst them and asked Jesus, saying, “Answer You nothing? Why should these bear witness against You?”
61 But He kept silent and answered nothing. Again, the High Priest asked Him and said to Him, “Are you the Christ; the Son of the Blessed?”
62 And Jesus said, “I am He. And you shall see the Son of Man sit at the right hand of power, coming in the clouds of Heaven.”
63 Then the High Priest tore his clothes, and said, “What have we anymore need of witnesses?!
64 You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think!?” And they all condemned Him to be worthy of death.
65 And some began to spit at Him, and to cover His face, and to beat Him with fists, and to say to Him, “Prophesy!” And the sergeants slapped Him.
66 And as Peter was beneath in the hall, one of the maids of the High Priest came.
67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him, and said, “You were also with Jesus of Nazareth.”
68 But he denied it, saying, “I do not know Him. Nor do I understand what you say.” Then he went out onto the porch. And the cock crew.
69 Then another maid saw him and began to say to those who stood by, “This is one of them.”
70 But he denied it again. And soon after, those who stood by said to Peter again, “Surely you are one of them! For you are of Galilee! And your speech is similar!”
71 And he began to curse, and swear, saying, “I do not know this Man of Whom you speak!”
72 Then the cock crew the second time. And Peter remembered the Word that Jesus had said to him, ‘Before the cock crows twice, you shall deny Me three times.’ And feeling the weight of that, he wept.
10 “My soul loathes my life. I will leave my complaint upon myself and will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
2 “I will say to God, “Do not condemn me. Show me why You contend with me.
3 “Do You think it good to oppress me and to cast off the labor of Your hands, and to favor the counsel of the wicked?
4 “Have You carnal eyes? Or do You see as man sees?
5 “Are Your days as man’s days or Your years as the time of man,
6 “that You inquire of my iniquity and search out my sin?
7 “You know that I cannot do wickedly. For no one can deliver me out of Your Hand.
8 “Your Hands have made me and fashioned me, wholly, all around. And will You destroy me?
9 “Please remember that You have made me as the clay. And will You bring me to dust again?
10 “Have You not poured me out as milk and turned me to curds like cheese?
11 “You have clothed me with skin and flesh and joined me together with bones and sinews.
12 “You have given me life and grace. And the visitation has preserved my spirit.
13 “Though You have hidden these things in Your Heart, I know that it is so with You.
14 “If I have sinned, then You will mark me and will not hold me guiltless of my iniquity.
15 “If I have done wickedly, woe to me. If I have done righteously, I will not lift up my head, being full of dishonor because I see my affliction.
16 “But let it increase. Hunt me as a lion. Return and show Yourself marvelous upon me.
17 “You renew Your plagues against me. And You increase Your wrath against me. Changes and armies are against me.
18 “Why, then, have You brought me out of the womb? Oh, that I had perished, and that no eye had seen me,
19 “that I were as I had not been, brought from the womb to the grave!
20 “Are not my days few? Let him cease. Let me be, so that I may take a little comfort
21 “before I go and do not return, to the land of darkness and shadow of death,
22 “into a land dark as darkness itself, into the shadow of death, where is no order, but the light as darkness.”
14 Receive the one who is weak in the faith, but not for passing judgment on his reasoning.
2 One believes that he may eat all things. And another, who is weak, eats only vegetables.
3 Do not let the one who eats treat the one who does not eat with contempt. And do not let the one who does not eat judge the one who eats. For God has received him.
4 Who are you to judge another man’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he shall be upheld. For God is able to make him stand.
5 One esteems one day above another day, and another counts every day alike. Let everyone be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 Whoever observes the day, observes it to the Lord. And whoever does not observe the day, does not observe it to the Lord. Whoever eats, eats to the Lord. For he gives God thanks. And whoever does not eat, does not eat to the Lord, and gives God thanks.
7 For none of us lives to himself. Nor does anyone die to himself.
8 For if we live, we live to the Lord. Or if we die, we die to the Lord: Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.
9 For to this end Christ died and rose again, and revived, so that He might be Lord, both of the dead and the living.
10 But why do you condemn your brother? Or why do you contemn your brother? For we shall all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 For it is written, “I live, says the Lord. And every knee shall bow to Me. And all tongues shall confess unto God”.
12 So then everyone of us shall give accounts of himself to God.
13 Therefore, let us not judge one another anymore. But rather, determine to do this: that no one put a stumbling block, or an occasion to fall, before his brother.
14 I know, and am persuaded through the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean in itself. But to the one who judges something to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
15 But if your brother is distressed because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food someone for whom Christ died.
16 Therefore, do not let your good be spoken of as evil.
17 For the kingdom of God is not food or drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
18 For whoever serves Christ in these things, is well-pleasing to God, and is approved by man.
19 Let us then follow those things which concern peace, and with which one may edify another.
20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. Indeed, all things are clean, but evil for the man who eats in offense.
21 It is not good to eat flesh or to drink wine or to do anything whereby your brother stumbles or is offended or made weak.
22 Do you have faith? Have your own before God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself in that thing which he allows.
23 For the one who doubts is condemned if he eats because he does not eat of faith. And whatever is not of faith is sin.
