Genesis 39

39 Now Joseph was brought down into Egypt. And Potiphar, a eunuch of Pharaoh’s (chief steward, an Egyptian), bought him from the hand of the Ishmaelites who had brought him there.

And the LORD was with Joseph; and he was a man who prospered and was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.

And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did prosper in his hand.

So Joseph found favor in his sight and served him. And he made him ruler of his house and put all that he had in his hand.

And from the time that he had made him ruler over his house and over all that he had, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house, for Joseph’s sake. And the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

Therefore, he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and took account of nothing with him, except the bread which he ate. And Joseph was a fair person, and well-favored.

Now therefore, after these things, his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and said, “Lie with me!”

But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, my master does not know what is in the house with me; but has committed all that he has to my hand.

“There is no man greater in this house than me. Nor has he kept anything from me, except you, because you are his wife. How, then, can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?”

10 And she still spoke to Joseph every day; but he did not listen to her (to lie with her or to be in her company).

11 Then, on a certain day, Joseph entered into the house to do his business. And there was no man of the household in the house.

12 Therefore, she caught him by his garment, saying, “Sleep with me!” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out.

13 Now, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had fled,

14 she called to the men of her house, and told them, saying, “Behold, he has brought in a Hebrew to us, to mock us; who came in to me, to sleep with me! But I cried with a loud voice.

15 “And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garments with me, and fled away, and got out!”

16 So she laid his garment next to her until her lord came home.

17 Then she told him these words, saying, “The Hebrew servant, which you have brought to us, came in to me, to mock me!

18 “But as soon as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment with me, and fled!”

19 Then, when his master heard the words of his wife which she told him, saying, “Your servant did this to me,” his anger was kindled.

20 And Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, in the place where the king’s prisoners lay bound. And there he was in prison.

21 But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and got him favor in the sight of the master of the prison.

22 And the keeper of the prison committed all the prisoners that were in the prison to Joseph’s hand. And whatever they did there, that he did.

23 And the keeper of the prison inspected nothing that was under his hand, seeing that the LORD was with him. For whatever he did, the LORD made it prosper.

Mark 9

And He said to them, “Truly I say to you that there are some of those who stand here who shall not taste of death till they have seen the Kingdom of God come with power.”

And six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter, and James, and John, and brought them up into a high mountain, out of the way, alone. And His shape was changed before them.

And His clothing shined, and was very white, as snow; whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.

And Elijah appeared to them, with Moses. And they were talking with Jesus.

Then Peter answered, and said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three tabernacles; one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

Yet he did not know what he said. For they were afraid.

And there was a cloud that shadowed them. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him.”

And suddenly they looked around and saw no one, except Jesus.

And as they came down from the mountain, He instructed them to tell no one what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead again.

10 So they kept that matter to themselves and asked each another what the ‘rising from the dead again’ might mean.

11 Also they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

12 And He answered, and said to them, “Elijah truly shall come first, and restore all things. And as it is written of the Son of Man, He must suffer many things and be rejected.

13 “But I say to you, that Elijah has come. And they have done to him whatever they would, as it is written of him.”

14 And when He came to His disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and the scribes disputing with them.

15 And immediately all the people, when they saw Him, were amazed and ran to Him and greeted Him.

16 Then He asked the scribes, “What are you disputing among yourselves?”

17 And one of the crowd answered, and said, “Master, I have brought my son to You, who has a mute spirit!

18 And wherever I have taken him, the spirit has seized him. And he foams and gnashes his teeth and pines away. And I asked Your disciples to cast him out and they could not.”

19 Then Jesus answered him, and said, “O faithless generation! How long now shall I be with you? How long now shall I put up with you?! Bring him to Me.”

20 So they brought him to Jesus. And as soon as the spirit saw Him, he seized the child. And he fell down on the ground wallowing and foaming.

21 Then He asked his father, “How long has he been this way?” And he said, “His whole childhood.

22 “And often he casts him into the fire, or into the water, to destroy him. But if You can do anything, help us and have compassion upon us.”

23 And Jesus said to him, “If you can believe it, all things are possible to the one who believes.”

24 And immediately the father of the child, crying with tears, said, “Lord, I believe! Help my unbelief!”

25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, “You dumb and deaf spirit, I command you come out of him! And enter into him no more!”

26 Then the spirit cried, and seized the child again, and came out. And the child was as one dead; so much so that many said, “He is dead.”

27 But Jesus took his hand and lifted him up. And he arose.

28 And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him secretly, “Why couldn’t we cast him out?”

29 And He said to them, “This kind can come forth by no other means but prayer and fasting.”

30 And they left there and went together through Galilee. And He would not allow them to tell anyone.

31 For He taught His disciples, and said to them, “The Son of Man shall be delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill Him. But after He is killed, He shall rise again the third day.”

32 But they did not understand that saying and were afraid to ask Him.

33 After that, He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house, He asked them, “What were you disputing among you on the way?”

34 And they kept silent. For along the way they had debated who should be first among them.

35 And He sat down and called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant to all.”

36 And He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And He took him in His arms and said to them,

37 “Whoever shall receive one of these little children in My Name, receives Me. And whoever receives Me, receives not Me, but He Who sent Me.”

38 Then John answered Him, saying, “Master, we saw one casting out demons by Your Name who does not follow us. And we forbade him because he does not follow us.”

39 But Jesus said, “Do no forbid him. For there is no one who can do a miracle by My Name who can lightly speak evil of Me.

40 “For whoever is not against us, is on our side.

41 “And whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink for My Name’s sake (because you belong to Christ), truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.

42 “And whoever shall cause one of these little ones who believes in Me to stumble, it were better for him if a millstone were hanged around his neck and that he were cast into the sea.

43 “So if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed, than to have two hands and go into Hell; into the fire that never shall be quenched,

44 ‘Where their worm dies not, and the fire never goes out.’

45 “Likewise, if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, than to have two feet and be cast into Hell; into the fire that never shall be quenched,

46 ‘Where their worm dies not, and the fire never goes out.’

47 “And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to go into the Kingdom of God with one eye, than to have two eyes and be cast into Hell fire,

48 ‘Where their worm dies not, and the fire never goes out.’

49 “For everyone shall be salted with fire. And every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

50 “Salt is good, but if the salt is tasteless, with what shall it be seasoned? Have salt in yourselves and have peace one with another.”

Job 5

“Call out now, if any will answer you. And to which of the saints will you turn?

“Doubtless, anger kills the foolish and envy slays the idiot.

“I have seen the foolish well-rooted. And suddenly I cursed his habitation.

“His children shall be far from salvation. And they shall be destroyed in the gate. And no one shall deliver them.

“The hungry shall eat up his harvest. Indeed, they shall take it from among the thorns. And the thirsty shall drink up their wealth.

“For misery does not come forth from the dust. Nor does affliction spring out of the earth.

“But man is born to toil, as the sparks fly upward.

“But I would inquire of God, and turn my talk to God,

“Who does great things, and unsearchable, marvelous things without number.

10 “He gives rain upon the earth, and pours water upon the streets,

11 “and sets those who are low up on high, so that the sorrowful may be exalted to salvation.

12 “He scatters the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot accomplish that which they undertake.

13 “He takes the wise in their craftiness. And the counsel of the wicked is made foolish.

14 “They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope at noon as in the night.

15 “But He saves the poor from the sword, from their mouth and from the hand of the violent man,

16 “so that the poor has hope. But iniquity shall shut her mouth.

17 “Behold, blessed is the man whom God corrects. Therefore, do not refuse the discipline of the Almighty.

18 “For He makes the wound and binds it up. He strikes, and His Hands make whole.

19 “He shall deliver you in six troubles. And in the seventh, misery shall not touch you.

20 “In famine He shall deliver you from death, and in battle from the power of the sword.

21 “You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue. And you shall not be afraid of destruction when it comes.

22 “You shall laugh at destruction and dearth, and shalt not be afraid of the beast of the Earth.

23 “For the stones of the field shall be in league with you. And the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.

24 “And you shall know that peace is in your tent. And you shall visit your habitation, and shall not sin.

25 “You shall also perceive that your seed shall be great, and your posterity as the grass of the earth.

26 “You shall go to your grave at a full age, as a stack of grain comes in due season.

27 “Lo, thus have we examined it. And so it is. Hear this and know it for yourself.”

Romans 9

I say the truth in Christ. I do not lie; my conscience bearing me witness in the holy Ghost,

so that I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

For I could wish myself to be accursed, to be separated from Christ, for my brothers who are my kinsmen according to the flesh,

(who are the Israelites), to whom pertains the adoption, and the glory, and the Covenants, and the giving of the Law, and the service of God, and the promises;

from whom are the Fathers, and from whom, concerning the flesh, Christ - Who is God over all, blessed forever – came. Amen.

Notwithstanding, it cannot be that the Word of God should take no effect. For not all are Israel who are of Israel.

Nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham. But: “In Isaac shall your seed be called.”

That is, those who are the children of the flesh are not the children of God. But the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

For this is a Word of Promise: “At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son”;

10 and not only her, but Rebecca also, when she had conceived by one, even by our Father, Isaac.

11 For before the children were born - and when they had done neither good nor evil (so that the purpose of God might remain according to election; not by works, but by Him Who calls) -

12 it was said to her: “The Elder shall serve the younger.”

13 As it is written: “I have loved Jacob and have hated Esau.”

14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Absolutely not!

15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy and will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”

16 So then it is not in him who wills, nor in him who runs, but in God, Who shows mercy.

17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “For this same purpose I have raised you up, so that I might show My power in you; and that My Name might be declared throughout all the Earth.”

18 Therefore, He has mercy on whom He will. And whom He will, He hardens.

19 You will then say to me: “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?”

20 But who are you, O man, to contradict God? Shall the thing formed say to Him Who formed it, “Why have you made me this way”?

21 Does not indeed the potter have authority over the clay to make, from the same lump, one vessel unto honor and another unto dishonor?

22 What if God – though willing to show His wrath, and to make His power known - endured with much patience the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction?

23 That in so doing, He might declare the riches of His Glory upon the vessels of mercy, which He has prepared unto Glory -

24 even we whom He has called - not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles.

25 As He also says in Hosea: “I will call them ‘My people’ who were not my people; and her ‘Beloved’ who was not beloved.

26 “And it shall be in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people’. There they shall be called ‘The sons of the living God’.”

27 Also, Isaiah cries concerning Israel: “Though the number of the sons of Israel were as the sand of the sea, the remnant shall be saved.

28 “For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, because the Lord will make a short work upon the Earth.”

29 And as Isaiah said before: “Except that the Lord of hosts had left us a seed, we had been made as Sodom, and had been like Gomorrah.”

30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who did not follow righteousness, have attained righteousness, even the righteousness that is by faith;

31 but Israel, which followed the Law of righteousness, could not attain the Law of righteousness.

32 Why? Because they did not not seek it by faith, but by the works of the Law. For they have stumbled at the stumbling stone.

33 As it is written: “Behold, I lay a stumbling stone in Zion; an ensnaring rock. And everyone who believes in Him, shall not be ashamed.”
