38 And at that time, Judah went down from his brothers and visited a man called Hirah, an Adullamite.
2 And there Judah saw a daughter of a man called Shua, a Canaanite. And he took her and went into her.
3 So she conceived and bore a son; and he called his name “Er”.
4 And she conceived again and bore a son; and she called his name “Onan”.
5 Moreover, she bore yet another son whom she called Shelah. And Judah was at Chezib when she bore him.
6 Then Judah took a wife for Er, his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.
7 Now, Er, the firstborn of Judah, was wicked in the sight of the LORD. Therefore, the LORD killed him.
8 And Judah said to Onan, “Go into your brother’s wife and do the office of a kinsman to her; and raise up seed to your brother.”
9 And Onan knew that the seed would not be his. Therefore, when he went in to his brother’s wife, he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.
10 And it was wicked in the eyes of the LORD, that which he did. Therefore He killed him also.
11 Then Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, “Remain a widow in your father’s house until Shelah, my son, grows up (for he thought, “Lest he die, just as his brothers.”) So, Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.
12 And in process of time the daughter of Shua, Judah’s wife, also died. Then Judah, when he had finished mourning, went up to his sheepshearers, to Timnah (he and his neighbor, Hirah the Adullamite).
13 And it was told to Tamar, saying, “Behold, your father-in-law goes up to Timnath, to shear his sheep.
14 Then she took off her widow’s garments and covered herself with a veil and wrapped herself and sat down in Pethah-enam (which is on the way to Timnah) because she saw that Shelah was grown and she was not given to him as wife.
15 When Judah saw her, he judged her to be a whore, for she had covered her face.
16 And he made his way towards her, and said, “Please, come let me lie with you.” For he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. And she answered, “What will you give me, to lie with me?”
17 Then he said, “I will send you a kid from the goats of the flock.” And she said, “If you will give me a pledge until you send it.”
18 Then he said, “What is the pledge that I shall give you?” And she answered, “Your signet and your cloak and your staff that is in your hand.” So, he gave it to her and lay with her; and she was with child by him.
19 Then she rose and went and took off her veil and put on her widow’s raiment.
20 Afterward, Judah sent a kid from the goats by the hand of his neighbor, the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand. But he did not find her.
21 Then he asked the men of the place, saying, “Where is the whore who sat in Enaim, by the wayside?” And they answered, “There was no whore there.”
22 Therefore, he came back to Judah, and said, “I cannot find her. And the men of the place also said, ‘There was no whore there.’”
23 Then Judah said, “Let her take them for herself, lest we be shamed. Behold, I sent this kid, and you have not found her.”
24 Now, after three months, one told Judah, saying, “Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has played the whore; and lo, with playing the whore, she is great with child.” Then Judah said, “Bring her forth and let her be burnt.”
25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “By the man to whom these things pertain, am I with child.” And she also said, “Please determine who’s these are: the seal and the cloak and the staff.”
26 Then Judah knew, and said, “She is more righteous than me. For she has done it because I did not give her to Shelah, my son.” So, he lay with her no more.
27 Now, when the time had come that she should give birth, behold, there were twins in her womb.
28 And when she was in labor, one put out his hand. And the midwife took and bound a red thread around his hand, saying, “This has come out first.”
29 But when he drew his hand back again, lo, his brother came out; and the midwife said, “How have you broken through? A breach is upon you!” And his name was called “Perez”.
30 And afterward, his brother came out (who had the red thread around his hand); and his name was called “Zerah”.
8 In those days, when there was a very great multitude and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and said to them,
2 “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat.
3 “And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they would faint on the way.” For some of them came from far away.
4 Then His disciples answered Him, “How can we give them bread here in the wilderness?”
5 And He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.”
6 Then He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and gave thanks; broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before them. And they set them before the people.
7 They had also a few small fishes. And when He had given thanks, He commanded them also to be set before them.
8 So they ate and were satisfied. And they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left.
9 And those who had eaten were about four thousand. So, He sent them away.
10 And soon, He entered into a ship with His disciples and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
11 And the Pharisees came forth and began to dispute with Him, seeking a sign of Heaven from Him, and tempting Him.
12 Then He sighed deeply in His Spirit, and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly I say to you, a sign shall not be given to this generation.”
13 So He left them and went into the ship again and departed to the other side.
14 And they had forgotten to take bread with them and had only one loaf in the ship with them.
15 And He charged them, saying, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.”
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 And when Jesus knew it, He said to them, “Why do you reason ‘because we have no bread’? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Are your hearts still hardened?
18 “Do you have eyes and not see? And do you have ears and not hear? And do you not remember?
19 “When I broke the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.”
20 “And when I broke seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of leftovers did you take up?” And they said, “Seven.”
21 Then He said to them, “How is it that you do not understand?”
22 And He came to Bethsaida. And they brought a blind man to Him and asked Him to touch him.
23 Then he took the blind by the hand and led him out of the town; and spit in his eyes and put His hands upon him and asked him if he saw anything.
24 And he looked up, and said, “I see men, walking, like trees.”
25 After that, He put his hands upon his eyes again and made him look again. And his sight was restored. And he saw everyone clearly from far way.
26 And He sent him home to his house, saying, “Do not go into the town. And do not tell of this to anyone in the town.”
27 And Jesus went out with His disciples into the towns of Caesarea Philippi. And along the way He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Whom do men say that I am?”
28 And they answered, “Some say, John Baptist. And some, Elijah. And some, one of the Prophets.”
29 And He said to them, “But whom do you say that I am?” Then Peter answered, and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”
30 And He sharply charged them that they should tell no one about Him.
31 Then He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and would be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes; and be killed; and within three days, rise again.
32 And He spoke that thing boldly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.
33 Then He turned back and looked at His disciples and rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you do not understand the things that are of God, but the things that are of man!”
34 And He called the people to Him, with His disciples, and said to them, “Whoever will follow Me, let him forsake himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
35 “For whoever will save his life, shall lose it. But whoever shall lose his life, for My sake, and the Gospel’s, shall save it.
36 “For what shall it profit a man, though he should win the whole world, if he loses his soul?
37 “Or what shall a man exchange for his soul?
38 “For whoever among this adulterous and sinful generation shall be ashamed of Me and of My words, of him shall the Son of Man also be ashamed when He comes in the Glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
4 Then Eliphaz, the Temanite, answered and said,
2 “If we try to commune with you, will you grow weary? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
3 “Behold, you have taught many, and have strengthened weary hands.
4 “Your words have upheld him who was falling. And you have strengthened weak knees.
5 “But now it has come upon you, and you grow weary. It touches you, and you are troubled.
6 “Is not this your fear, your confidence, your patience and uprightness of your ways?
7 “Please remember, whoever perished being innocent? Or where were the upright destroyed?
8 “As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow wickedness reap the same.
9 “With the blast of God they perish. And with the breath of His Nostrils are they consumed.
10 “The roaring of the Lion, and the voice of the Lioness, and the teeth of the Lion’s whelps are broken.
11 “The Lion perishes for lack of prey. And the Lion’s whelps are scattered.
12 “But a thing was brought to me secretly. And my ear has received a little of it.
13 “In the thoughts of the visions of the night, when sleep falls on men,
14 “fear came upon me, and dread, which made all my bones tremble.
15 “And the wind passed before me, and made the hairs of my flesh stand up.
16 “Then, one stood. And I did not know his face, an image before my eyes. In silence, I heard a voice,
17 “‘Shall man be more just than God? Or shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
18 ‘Behold, he found no steadfastness in his servants, and laid folly upon his angels.
19 ‘How much more in those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which shall be destroyed before the moth?
20 ‘They are destroyed from the morning to the evening. They perish forever, without regard.
21 ‘Does not their excellence go away with them? Do they not die without wisdom?’”
8 Now, then, there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus; who do not walk after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the Law of the Spirit of life, Who is in Christ Jesus, has freed me from the Law of sin and of death.
3 For what the Law could not do (since it was weak because of the flesh) God did; having sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us; who do not walk after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For those who are after the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 For the wisdom of the flesh is death. But the wisdom of the Spirit is life and peace.
7 Because the wisdom of the flesh is hostility toward God. For it is not subject to the Law of God, nor indeed can it be.
8 So, then, those who are in the flesh, cannot please God.
9 Now, you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. Because the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, the same is not His.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin. But the Spirit is life, for righteousness’ sake.
11 But if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He Who raised up Christ from the dead shall also give life to your mortal bodies by His Spirit, Who dwells in you.
12 Therefore brothers, we are debtors; not to the flesh (to live after the flesh),
13 for if you live after the flesh you shall die. But if you mortify the deeds of the body, by the Spirit, you shall live.
14 For, as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage, to fear again. But you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, “Abba, Father!”
16 The same Spirit bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.
17 If we are children, we are also heirs (even the heirs of God, and co-heirs with Christ), if indeed we suffer with Him. So that we also may be glorified with Him.
18 For I consider the afflictions of this present time unworthy of the Glory which shall be shown to us.
19 For the eager expectation of the creation awaits the revealing of the sons of God.
20 Because the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but by reason of Him Who has subdued it, under hope.
21 Because the creation shall also be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the sons of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation also groans with us and suffers birth pains together until now.
23 And not only the creation; but also, we who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we sigh in ourselves (awaiting the adoption, the redemption of our body).
24 For we are saved by hope. But hope that is seen is not hope. For how can one hope for that which he sees?
25 But if we hope for that which we do not see, we await it with patience.
26 Likewise, the Spirit also helps our weakness. For we do not know what to pray as we should. But the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unutterable sighs.
27 But He Who searches the hearts, knows the meaning of the Spirit. For He intercedes for the Saints according to the will of God.
28 But we know that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.
29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brothers.
30 Moreover, those whom He predestined, He also called. And those whom He called, He also justified. And those whom He justified, He also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
32 He Who did not spare His own Son - but gave Him up for us all - how shall He not, with Him, also give us all things?
33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s chosen? God is the One who justifies.
34 Who shall condemn? It is Christ, Who died - indeed, or rather, Who is risen again - and Who is also at the right hand of God, interceding for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ; shall tribulation or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written: “For your sake we are killed all day long. We are counted as sheep for the slaughter.”
37 Nevertheless, in all these things we are more than conquerors, through Him Who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
