M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
35 Then God said to Jacob, “Arise. Go up to Bethel and dwell there and make there an altar to God (Who appeared to you when you fled from Esau, your brother).”
2 Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, “Put away the strange gods that are among you; and cleanse yourselves and change your garments.
3 “For we will rise and go up to Bethel. And I will make there an altar to God (Who heard me on the day of my tribulation and was with me on the way which I went).”
4 And they gave to Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hands, and all their earrings which were in their ears. And Jacob hid them under an oak which was by Shechem.
5 Then they went on their journey. And the fear of God was upon the cities that were around them, so that they did not follow after the sons of Jacob.
6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan (the same is Bethel), he and all the people that were with him.
7 And he built an altar there and had called the place “The God of Bethel”, because God appeared to him there when he fled from his brother.
8 But Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died and was buried beneath Bethel, under an oak. And he called the name of it “Allon Bachuth”.
9 Again, God appeared to Jacob after he came to Padan Aram and blessed him.
10 Moreover, God said to him, “Your name is Jacob. No more shall your name be called ‘Jacob’, but ‘Israel’ shall be your name.” And He called his name “Israel”.
11 And God said to him, “I am God All-Sufficient. Grow and multiply. A nation and a multitude of nations shall spring from you; and kings shall come out of your loins.
12 “I will also give you the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac; and I will give that land to your seed after you.”
13 So God ascended from him in the place where he had talked with him.
14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him (a pillar of stone) and poured drink offerings on it. He also poured oil on it.
15 And Jacob called the name of that place where God spoke with him, “Bethel”.
16 Then they departed from Bethel, and when they were about half a day’s journey from Ephrath, Rachel labored; and she was in peril in her labor.
17 And when she was in the pains of her labor, the midwife said to her, “Do not fear. For you shall have this son also.”
18 Then, as she was about to give up the ghost (for she died), she called his name, “Ben-Oni”. But his father called him “Benjamin”.
19 Thus Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
20 And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave. This is the pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day.
21 Then Israel went forward and pitched his tent beyond Migdal Eder.
22 Now, when Israel dwelt in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine. And Israel heard about it. And Jacob had twelve sons.
23 The sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob’s eldest son, and Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulun.
24 The sons of Rachel; Joseph and Benjamin.
25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maid: Dan and Naphtali.
26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s maid: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Padan Aram.
27 Then Jacob came to Isaac, his father, to Mamre, a city of Kirjath Arbah (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac were strangers.
28 And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.
29 And Isaac gave up the ghost and died and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days; and his sons, Esau and Jacob, buried him.
36 Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.
2 Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah, the daughter of Elon (a Hittite) and Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah (the daughter of Zibeon, a Hivite).
3 He also took Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.
4 And Adah bore to Esau, Eliphaz; and Basemath bore Reuel.
5 Also, Aholibamah bore Jeush and Jaalam and Korah. These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.
6 So Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters and all the souls of his house, and his flocks and all his cattle and all his substance which he had gotten in the land of Canaan and went into a different country from his brother Jacob.
7 For their riches were so great that they could not dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not receive them because of their flocks.
8 Therefore, Esau dwelt on Mount Seir. This Esau is Edom.
9 So, these are the generations of Esau, father of Edom, on Mount Seir:
10 These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Adah (the wife of Esau), and Reuel, the son of Basemath, (the wife of Esau).
11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz.
12 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and bore to Eliphaz, Amalek. These are the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife.
13 And these are the sons of Reuel: Nahath and Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These are the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife.
14 And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah (daughter of Zibeon, Esau’s wife). For she bore to Esau, Jeush and Jaalam and Korah.
15 These were Chiefs of the sons of Esau, the sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn of Esau: Chief Teman, Chief Omar, Chief Zepho, Chief Kenaz,
16 Chief Korah, Chief Gatam, and Chief Amalek. These are the Chiefs who came from Eliphaz in the land of Edom. These were the sons of Adah.
17 And these are the sons of Reuel, Esau’s son: Chief Nahath, Chief Zerah, Chief Shammah, Chief Mizzah. These are the Chiefs who came from Reuel, in the land of Edom. These are the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife.
18 Likewise, these were the sons of Aholibamah, Esau’s wife. Chief Jeush, Chief Jaalam, Chief Korah. These Chiefs came from Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah, Esau’s wife.
19 These are the children of Esau; and these are the Chiefs of them. This is Edom.
20 These are the sons of Seir, the Horite, who inhabited the land: Lotan and Shobal and Zibeon and Anah
21 and Dishon and Ezer and Dishan. These are the Chiefs of the Horites, the sons of Seir, in the land of Edom.
22 And the sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
23 And the sons of Shobal were these: Alvan and Manahath and Ebal Shepho and Onam.
24 And these are the sons of Zibeon: both Ajah and Anah (this was Anah who found mules in the wilderness as he fed his father Zibeon’s donkeys).
25 And the children of Anah were these: Dishon and Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah.
26 Also, these are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan and Eshban and Ithran and Cheran.
27 The sons of Ezer are these: Bilhan and Zaavan and Akan.
28 The sons of Dishan are these: Uz and Aran.
29 These are the Chiefs of the Horites: Chief Lotan, Chief Shobal, Chief Zibeon, Chief Anah,
30 Chief Dishon, Chief Ezer, Chief Dishan. These are the Chiefs of the Horites, after their Chiefdoms, in the land of Seir.
31 And these are the Kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any King over the children of Israel.
32 Then Bela, the son of Beor, reigned in Edom; and the name of his city was Dinhabah.
33 And when Bela died, Jobab (the son of Zerah, of Bozrah) reigned in his place.
34 When Jobab also died, Husham, of the land of Temani, reigned in his place.
35 And after the death of Husham, Hadad, the son of Bedad (who killed Midian in the field of Moab), reigned in his place; and the name of his city was Avith.
36 When Hadad died, then Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place.
37 When Samlah died Saul of Rehoboth (by the river), reigned in his place.
38 When Saul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, reigned in his place.
39 And after the death of Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, Hadar reigned in his place; and the name of his city was Pau. And his wife’s name was Mehetabel (the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab).
40 These, then, are the names of the Chiefs of Esau, according to their families, their places, by their names: Chief Timnah, Chief Alvah, Chief Jetheth.
41 Chief Aholibamah, Chief Elah, Chief Pinon,
42 Chief Kenaz, Chief Teman, Chief Mibzar,
43 Chief Magdiel, Chief Iram. These are the Chiefs of Edom, according to their dwellings, in the land of their inheritance. This Esau is the father of Edom.
6 And He departed from there and came into His own country. And His disciples followed Him.
2 And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many who heard Him were astonished, and said, “From where has this Man received these things? And what wisdom is this that is given to Him, that even such great works are done by His hands?
3 “Is not this that carpenter, Mary’s son, the brother of James and Joses, and of Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they were offended by Him.
4 And Jesus said to them, “A Prophet is not without honor, except in his own country and among his own kindred and in his own house.”
5 And He could do no great works there, except to lay His hands upon a few sick folk and heal them.
6 And He marveled at their unbelief, and went around the towns on every side, teaching.
7 And He called to Him the twelve and began to send them forth two by two and gave them power over unclean spirits.
8 And He commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey except a staff only, neither bag nor bread nor money in their belts.
9 But that they should wear sandals and that they should not put on two coats.
10 And He said to them, “Wherever you shall enter into a house, stay there till you depart that place.
11 “And whoever shall neither receive you nor hear you, shake off the dust that is under your feet when you depart from there, for a witness to them. Truly I say to you, it shall be easier for Sodom or Gomorrah at the Day of Judgment than for that city.”
12 And they went out and preached repentance.
13 And they cast out many demons. And they anointed many who were sick with oil, and healed them.
14 Then King Herod heard of Him (for His Name was now well-known) and said, “John Baptist has risen again from the dead, and therefore great works are done by him.”
15 Others said, “It is Elijah,” and some said, “It is a Prophet like one of those Prophets.”
16 So when Herod heard it, he said, “It is John, whom I beheaded. He is risen from the dead.”
17 For Herod himself had taken John and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, who was his brother Philip’s wife. Because he had married her.
18 For John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
19 Therefore Herodias conspired against him and would have killed him, but she could not.
20 For Herod feared John (knowing that he was a just and holy man) and respected him. And when he heard him, he did so gladly.
21 But the opportunity came when Herod, on his birthday, made a banquet to his princes and captains and chief leaders of Galilee.
22 And the daughter of that same Herodias came in and danced, and pleased Herod, and those who sat at table together. And the King said to the maid, “Ask of me what you will and I will give it you.”
23 And he swore to her, “Whatever you shall ask of me I will give it to you, even up to the half of my kingdom.”
24 So she went forth and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” And she said, “John Baptist’s head.”
25 Then she quickly returned to the King and asked, saying, “I would that you should give me, even now, on a platter, the head of John Baptist.”
26 Then the King was very sorry. Yet for his oath’s sake and for their sakes of those who sat at table with him, he would not refuse her.
27 And immediately the king sent the hangman and gave charge that John Baptist’s head should be brought in. So, he went and beheaded him in the prison,
28 And brought his head on a platter and gave it to the maid. And the maid gave it to her mother.
29 And when his disciples heard it, they came and took up his body and put it in a tomb.
30 And the Apostles gathered themselves together to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught.
31 And He said to them, “Come away into the wilderness, and rest a while.” For there were many comers and goers, that they had not had a chance to eat.
32 So they went by ship out of the way into a desert place.
33 But the people saw them when they departed and many knew Him and ran after them, out of all cities, and got to the desert place before them.
34 Then Jesus went out and saw a great multitude and had compassion on them, because they were like sheep which had no shepherd. And He began to teach them many things.
35 And when the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a desert place and now the day is old.
36 “Let them depart, so that they may go into the country and towns nearby and buy bread. For they have nothing to eat.”
37 But He answered, and said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred pennies worth of bread and give them that to eat?”
38 Then He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and look.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fishes.”
39 So He commanded them to make them all sit down by groups upon the green grass.
40 Then they sat down by rows, by hundreds and by fifties.
41 And He took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looked up to Heaven and gave thanks and broke the loaves and gave them to His disciples to set before them. And He divided the two fishes among them all.
42 So they all ate and were satisfied.
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments and of the fishes.
44 And those who had eaten were about five thousand men.
45 And immediately He had His disciples get into the ship and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida. While He sent away the people.
46 Then as soon as He had sent them away, He departed into a mountain to pray.
47 And when evening came, the ship was in the midst of the sea and He was alone on the land.
48 And He saw them troubled in rowing (for the wind was against them). And about the fourth watch of the night, He came to them, walking upon the sea; and would have passed by them.
49 And when they saw Him walking upon the sea, they thought it was a spirit and cried out.
50 For they all saw Him and were very afraid. But He talked with them and said to them, “Be of good comfort! It is I! Do not be afraid!”
51 Then He went up to them into the ship. And the wind ceased. And they were much more amazed and marveled.
52 For they had not understood the matter of the loaves, because their hearts were hardened.
53 And they came over and went into the land of Gennesaret, and arrived.
54 So when they had come out of the ship, immediately everyone knew it,
55 and ran around throughout all that region, carrying all who were sick to Him in couches, wherever they heard that He was.
56 And wherever He entered into towns or cities or villages, they laid their sick in the streets and asked Him if they might at least touch the edge of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made whole.
2 And one day, the children of God came and stood before the LORD. And Satan also came among them and stood before the LORD.
2 Then the LORD said to Satan, “From where have you come?” And Satan answered the LORD, and said, “From going to and fro on the Earth, and from walking in it.”
3 And the LORD said to Satan, “Have you not considered My servant, Job, how no one is like him on the Earth, an upright and just man, one who fears God and turns away from evil? For he still continues in his uprightness, although you moved Me against him, to destroy him without cause.”
4 And Satan answered the LORD, and said, “Skin for skin! And all that a man has, he will give for his life.
5 “But now, stretch out Your Hand and touch his bones and his flesh, to see if he will not blaspheme You to Your Face.”
6 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Lo, he is in your hand. But preserve his life.”
7 So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful boils, from the sole of his foot to the top of his head.
8 And he took a potsherd to scrape himself. And he sat down among the ashes.
9 Then his wife said to him, “Do you still continue in your uprightness? Blaspheme God and die!”
10 But he said to her, “You speak like a foolish woman. What? Shall we receive good from the Hand of God, and not receive misery?” In all this, Job did not sin with his lips.
11 Now, when Job’s three friends heard of all this calamity that had come upon him, they came, everyone from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite. For they had agreed together to come to lament with him, and to comfort him.
12 So, when they lifted up their eyes from far off, they did not know him. Therefore, they lifted up their voices and wept. And every one of them tore his garment and sprinkled dust upon his head, toward the sky.
13 So they sat by him, upon the ground, for seven days and seven nights. And no one spoke a word to him. For they saw that the grief was very great.
6 What, then, shall we say? Shall we continue in sin, so that grace may abound? Absolutely not!
2 How shall we, who are dead to sin, still live in it?
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Jesus Christ have been baptized into his death?
4 We are then buried with Him, through baptism, into His death; so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead, to the glory of the Father, we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we are united with Him in the likeness of His death, we shall also be so in the likeness of His resurrection,
6 knowing this: that our old man was crucified with Him, so that the body of sin might be made useless and that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For whoever has died is freed from sin.
8 Therefore, if we are dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,
9 knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death has no more dominion over Him.
10 For, in that He died, He died once to sin. But in that He lives, He lives to God.
11 Likewise, you also consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God, in Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey its lusts;
13 nor give the parts of your body to sin, as weapons of unrighteousness. But give yourselves to God, as those who are alive from the dead. And give the parts of your body to God, as weapons of righteousness.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you. For you are not under the Law, but under grace.
15 What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the Law, but under grace? Absolutely not!
16 Do you not know that to whomever you give yourselves as servants, to obey, you are his servants whom you obey; whether it be of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 Thanks be to God that, although you had been the servants of sin, you have obeyed (from the heart) the type of doctrine by which you were delivered.
18 Being then made free from sin, you are made the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak as a man, because of the weakness of your flesh. For as you have given the parts of your body over as servants to impurity and lawlessness, to commit lawlessness, so now give the parts of your body over as servants to righteousness in holiness.
20 For when you were the servants of sin, you were freed from righteousness.
21 What fruit did you then have in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
22 But now, being freed from sin, and made servants to God, you have your fruit in holiness; and in the end, everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
