22 And after these things God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham.” Who answered, “Here I am.”
2 And He said, “Take now your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and get to the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will show you.”
3 Then Abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him and Isaac, his son. And he split wood for the burnt offering and rose up and went to the place which God had told him.
4 Then, the third day, Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from a distance,
5 and said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey. The child and I will go yonder and worship and return to you.”
6 Then Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it upon Isaac, his son. And he took the fire in his hand and the knife. And they both went together.
7 Then Isaac spoke to Abraham, his father, and said, “My father.” And he answered, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
8 Then Abraham answered, “My son, God will provide a lamb for a burnt offering.” So, they both went together.
9 And when they came to the place which God had shown him, Abraham built an altar there. And he arranged the wood and bound Isaac, his son, and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.
10 And Abraham, stretching forth his hand, took the knife to kill his son.
11 But the Angel of the LORD called to him from Heaven, saying, “Abraham! Abraham!” And he answered, “Here I am.”
12 Then he said, “Do not lay your hand upon the child, nor do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not spared your only son for My sake.”
13 And Abraham, lifting up his eyes, looked. And behold, there was a ram behind him, caught by the horns in a bush. Then Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son.
14 And Abraham called the name of that place, Jehovah Jireh (as it is said this day, “On the mount will the LORD be seen.”).
15 And the Angel of the LORD cried to Abraham from Heaven a second time,
16 and said, “I have sworn by Myself (says the LORD) because you have done this thing and have not spared your only son.
17 “Therefore, I will surely bless you, and will greatly multiply your seed, as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is upon the seashore. And your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies.
18 “And in your seed shall all the nations of the Earth be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
19 Then Abraham returned to his servants; and they rose up and went together to Beersheba. And Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
20 And after these things, one told Abraham, saying, “Behold Milcah. She has also born children to your brother, Nahor:
21 Huz, his eldest son, and Buz, his brother, and Kemuel, the father of Aram,
22 And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
23 And Bethuel begat Rebekah. These eight did Milcah bear to Nahor, Abraham’s brother.
24 And his concubine (called Reumah) also bore Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash and Maachah.
21 And when they drew near to Jerusalem, and had come to Bethphage, to the mount of the Olives. Then Jesus sent two disciples,
2 saying to them, “Go into the town in front of you, and soon you shall find a donkey bound, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to Me.
3 “And if anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord has need of them. And immediately he will let them go.”
4 All this was done that what was spoken by the Prophet might be fulfilled, which says,
5 “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King comes to you, meek and sitting upon a donkey; and upon a colt, the foal of a beast of burden’.”
6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus had commanded them;
7 and brought the donkey and the colt, and put their garments on them, and set Him upon it.
8 And a great multitude spread their garments in the way. And others cut down branches from the trees and strew them in the way.
9 Moreover, the people who went before, as well as those who followed, cried, saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord! Hosanna, in the highest!”
10 And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”
11 And the people said, “This is Jesus, that Prophet of Nazareth in Galilee.”
12 And Jesus went into the Temple of God, and cast out all those who sold and bought in the Temple; and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of those who sold doves;
13 and said to them, “It is written! My house shall be called the House of Prayer! But you have made it a den of thieves!”
14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the Temple. And He healed them.
15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonders that He did, and the children crying in the Temple, and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David”, they were angry,
16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what they say?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘By the mouth of children and infants You have made perfect the praise’?”
17 So He left them and went out of the city, to Bethany, and lodged there.
18 And in the morning, as He returned into the city, He was hungry.
19 And seeing a fig tree on the way, He came to it. And finding nothing on it but leaves, He said to it, “May fruit never grow on you again.” And immediately the fig tree withered.
20 And when His disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How quickly that fig tree withered!”
21 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you shall not only do this to the fig tree, but it shall also be done if you say to this mountain, ‘Take yourself away, and cast yourself into the sea’.
22 “And whatever you shall ask in prayer - if you believe - you shall receive it.”
23 And when He had come into the Temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him as He was teaching, and said, “By what authority do You do these things? And who gave You this authority?”
24 Then Jesus answered, and said to them, “I will also ask of you a certain thing which, if you tell me, I will likewise tell you by what authority I do these things.
25 “The baptism of John. From where did it come - from Heaven or from man?” Then they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we shall say, ‘From Heaven’, He will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
26 “And if we say, ‘From man’, we fear the multitude.” For all held John as a Prophet.
27 Then they answered Jesus, and said, “We cannot tell.” And He said to them, “Nor will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and came to the elder, and said, ‘Son, go and work today in my vineyard.’
29 “But he answered, and said, ‘I will not.’ But later he changed his mind and went.
30 “Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered, and said, ‘I will, sir.’ But he did not go.
31 “Which of the two did the will of the father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes go before you into the Kingdom of God.
32 “For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him. But the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And you, though you saw it, were not moved with repentance afterward, so that you might believe him.
33 “Hear another parable. There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and fenced it in. And he made a winepress therein, and built a tower, and let it out to tenant farmers, and went away to a strange country.
34 “And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers to receive the fruits thereof.
35 “And the farmers took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.
36 “Again, he sent other servants (more than the first) and they did likewise to them.
37 “But last of all he sent his own son to them, saying, ‘They will revere my son’.
38 “But when the farmers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him. And let us take his inheritance.’
39 “So they took him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
40 “Therefore, when the Lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do to those farmers?”
41 They said to Him, “He will cruelly destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard to other farmers who shall deliver the fruits to him in their seasons.”
42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures, ‘The stone which the builders refused, the same is made the Cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?
43 “Therefore I say to you the Kingdom of God shall be taken from you and shall be given to a nation which shall bring forth the fruits thereof.
44 “And the one who shall fall on this stone, shall be broken. But on whomever it shall fall, it will grind to powder.
45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard His parables, they perceived that He spoke of them.
46 And they, seeking to lay hands on Him, feared the people. Because they took Him as a Prophet.
11 And the rulers of the people dwelt in Jerusalem. Also, the other people cast lots to bring one out of ten to dwell in Jerusalem, the holy city. And nine-tenths were to dwell in other cities.
2 And the people blessed all the men who were willing to dwell in Jerusalem.
3 These, now, are the chief of the province who dwelt in Jerusalem. But in the cities of Judah, everyone dwelt in his own possession (in their cities of Israel, the priests, the Levites, the Nethinim, and the sons of Solomon’s servants).
4 And some of the children of Judah and of Benjamin dwelt in Jerusalem. Of the sons of Judah were Athaiah the son of Uziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel. Of the sons of Perez were
5 Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Col-Hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni.
6 All the sons of Perez who dwelt in Jerusalem were four hundred sixty-eight valiant men.
7 These also are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah.
8 And after them were Gabbai and Sallai (nine hundred twenty-eight).
9 And Joel the son of Zichri was governor over them. And Judah, the son of Senuah, was the second over the city.
10 Of the priests were Jedaiah, the son of Joiarib, Jachin,
11 Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok and the son of Meraioth. The son of Ahitub was chief of the House of God.
12 And their brethren who did the work in the Temple were eight hundred twenty-two. Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchijah,
13 and his brethren, were chief of the fathers (two hundred forty-two) with Amashsai the son of Azarel, the son of Ahazai, the son of Meshilemoth, the son of Immer,
14 and their brethren, valiant men (one hundred twenty-eight). And their overseer was Zabdiel the son of Haggedolim.
15 And of the Levites were Shemaiah the son of Hashub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni.
16 And Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chief of the Levites, were over the works of the House of God outside.
17 And Mattaniah, the son of Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph was the chief to begin the thanksgiving and prayer. And Bakbukiah (the second of his brethren) and Abda, the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.
18 All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred eighty-four.
19 And the gatekeepers — Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren who kept the [h]gates — were one hundred twenty-two.
20 And the remnant of Israel, of the priests and of the Levites, dwelt in all the cities of Judah, everyone in his inheritance.
21 And the Nethinim dwelt in the fortress. And Ziha and Gispa were over the Nethinim.
22 And the overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi, the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha. Of the sons of Asaph, singers were over the work of the House of God.
23 For it was the king’s commandment concerning them that faithful provision should be made for the singers every day.
24 And Pethahiah, the son of Meshezabel, of the sons of Zerah, the son of Judah, was at the king’s hand in all matters concerning the people.
25 And in the villages in their lands, some of the children of Judah dwelt in Kirjath Arba, and in its villages, and in Dibon, and in its villages, and in Jekabzeel, and in its villages,
26 and in Jeshua, and in Moladah, and in Beth Pelet,
27 and in Hazar Shual, and in Beersheba, and in its villages,
28 and in Ziklag, and in Mekonah, and in its villages,
29 and in En Rimmon, and in Zorah, and in Jarmuth,
30 Zanoah, Adullam, and in their villages, in Lachish, and in its fields, at Azekah, and in its villages. And they dwelt from Beersheba to the Valley of Hinnom.
31 And the sons of Benjamin from Geba were in Michmash and Aija and Bethel and in its villages,
32 and Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,
33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,
34 Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,
35 Lod and Ono and in the Carpenters Valley.
36 And of the Levites were divisions in Judah and in Benjamin.
21 And as we launched forth, and had left them, we set a straight course to Cos, and the next day to Rhodes, and from there to Patara.
2 And we found a ship that went over to Phoenicia, and went aboard, and set forth.
3 And when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left side, and sailed toward Syria, and arrived at Tyre. For there the ship unloaded its cargo.
4 And when we had found disciples, we remained there for seven days. And through the Spirit, they told Paul that he should not go up to Jerusalem.
5 But when those days had ended, we departed and went our way. And they all, with their wives and children, accompanied us until we were out of the city. And we kneeled down on the shore and prayed.
6 Then, after we had embraced one another, we boarded the ship. And they returned home.
7 And when we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais, and greeted the brothers, and stayed with them for one day.
8 And the next day, Paul (and we who were with him) left and came to Caesarea. And we entered into the house of Philip the Evangelist (who was one of the seven) and stayed with him.
9 Now he had four virgin daughters who prophesied.
10 And as we remained there many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came from Judea.
11 And when he had come to us, he took Paul’s belt, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, “Thus says the Holy Ghost, ‘So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owns this belt, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’”
12 And when we had heard these things, both we and the residents there begged him not to go up to Jerusalem.
13 Then Paul answered, and said, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready, not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the Name of the Lord Jesus.”
14 So when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, “The will of the Lord be done.”
15 And after those days, we made ourselves ready and went up to Jerusalem.
16 Some of the disciples of Caesarea also went with us, and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple with whom we were to lodge.
17 And when we had come to Jerusalem, the brothers received us gladly.
18 And the next day Paul went in with us to James. And all the elders were assembled there.
19 And after he had embraced them, he told in order all things that God had worked among the Gentiles through his ministry.
20 So when they heard it, they glorified God, and said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousand Jews there are who believe. And they are all zealous for the Law.
21 “Now they are informed that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their sons, nor to live after the customs.
22 What then? The multitude must certainly come together. For they shall hear that you have come.
23 Therefore, do what we tell you. We have four men who have made a vow.
24 Take them. And purify yourself with them. And contribute with them, so that they may shave their heads. And all shall know that those things about which they have been informed concerning you, are nothing. And that you yourself also walk and keep the Law.
25 As for the Gentiles who believe, we have written and determined that they should observe no such thing, except that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from that which is strangled, and from fornication.
26 Then the next day Paul took the men, and having been purified with them, entered into the Temple and declared the completion of the days of the purification and that an offering would be offered for each one of them.
27 And when the seven days had almost ended, the Asian Jews (when they saw him in the Temple) incited all the people, and laid hands on him,
28 crying, “Men of Israel! Help! This is the man who teaches against the people, and the Law, and this place - to everyone, everywhere! Moreover, he has brought Greeks into the Temple, and has polluted this holy place!”
29 For they had seen Trophimus (an Ephesian) with him in the city before, whom they assumed that Paul had brought into the Temple.
30 Then all the city was moved, and the people ran together. And they took Paul, and dragged him out of the Temple, and immediately the doors were shut.
31 But as they were seeking to kill him, word came to the chief captain of the band that all Jerusalem was in an uproar;
32 who immediately took soldiers and Centurions and ran down to them. And when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.
33 Then the chief captain came near and took him, and commanded that he be bound with two chains, and asked who he was and what he had done.
34 And one cried this, and another that, among the people. So, when he could not discern the veracity because of the uproar, he commanded him to be led into the castle.
35 And when he came to the stairs, it happened that he was carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the people.
36 For the multitude of the people followed them, crying, “Away with him!”
37 And as Paul was being been led into the castle, he said to the chief captain, “May I speak to you?” Who said, “Can you speak Greek?
38 “Are you not the Egyptian who previously led a revolt, and led four thousand assassins out into the wilderness?”
39 Then Paul said, “Doubtless, I am a Jew, and a citizen of Tarsus, (a famous city of Cilicia). And I beg you, allow me to speak to the people.”
40 And when he had let him, Paul stood on the stairs and beckoned with the hand to the people. And when there was a great silence, he spoke to them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,
