M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
6 So when men began to be multiplied upon the Earth, and there were daughters born to them,
2 Then the sons of God saw the daughters of men (that they were fair) and they took wives of all whom they liked.
3 Therefore the LORD said, “My spirit shall not always strive with man, because he is but flesh. And his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.”
4 There were giants on the Earth in those days—and also after that—when the sons of God came into the daughters of men, and children had been borne to them. These were mighty men, who, in old time, were men of renown.
5 When the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the Earth (and all the imaginations of the thoughts of his heart were only evil continually),
6 then it caused the LORD to regret that He had made man on the Earth; and He was sorry in His heart.
7 Therefore the LORD said, “I will destroy the man whom I have created from off the Earth— from man to beast to the creeping thing and to the birds of the heaven — for I regret that I have made them.
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just and upright man in his time. Noah walked with God.
10 And Noah begat three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
11 The Earth was also corrupt before God; for the Earth was filled with cruelty.
12 Then God looked upon the Earth; and behold, it was corrupt. For all flesh had corrupted its way upon the Earth.
13 And God said to Noah, “An end of all flesh has come before Me; for the Earth is filled with cruelty through them. And behold, I will destroy them with the Earth.
14 “Make an Ark of gopher wood. You shall make cabins in the Ark and shall cover it inside and outside with a coating.
15 “And thus shall you make it: the length of the Ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
16 “You shall make a window in the Ark, and you shall finish it above in a cubit; and you shall set the door of the Ark in the side thereof. You shall make it with the low, second, and third room.
17 “And I, behold, I will bring a Flood of waters upon the Earth, to destroy all flesh wherein is the breath of life under Heaven. All that is on the Earth shall perish.
18 But I will establish My covenant with you. And you shall go into the Ark, you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.
19 “And you shall cause two of every sort of every living thing (of all flesh) to come into the Ark, to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.
20 Of the birds after their kind, and of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come to you; so that you may keep them alive.
21 “And take with you all food that is eaten. And you shall gather it; so that it may be food for you and for them.”
22 Therefore, Noah did as God commanded him. So did he.
6 “Be careful that you do not give your alms before men to be seen by them. Or else you shall have no reward from your Father Who is in Heaven.
2 “Therefore, when you give your alms, you shall not make a trumpet to be blown before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
3 “But when you do your alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand does.
4 “so that your alms may be in secret. And your Father, Who sees in secret, He will reward you openly.
5 “And when you pray, do not be as the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues, and in the corners of the streets, because they wish to be seen by man. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
6 “But when you pray, enter into your chamber. And when you have shut your door, pray to your Father Who is in secret. And your Father, Who sees in secret, shall reward you openly.
7 “Also, when you pray, use no meaningless repetitions as the heathen. For they think they are heard for their many words.
8 “Therefore, do not be like them. For your Father knows your needs before you ask Him.
9 “After this manner therefore pray, ‘Our Father Who are in Heaven, hallowed be Your Name.
10 “Your Kingdom come. Your will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
11 “Give us this day our daily bread.
12 “And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
13 “And lead us not into trial. But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory forever. Amen.’
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 “But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, no more will your Father forgive you your trespasses.
16 “Moreover, when you fast, do not look sour as the hypocrites. For they disfigure their faces, to show men that they are fasting. Truly I say to you that they have their reward.
17 “But when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face,
18 “so that you do not fast for man to see, but your Father, Who is in secret. And your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you openly.
19 “Do not lay up treasures for yourselves on the Earth, where the moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves dig through and steal.
20 “But lay up treasures for yourselves in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupts, and where thieves neither dig through nor steal.
21 “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 “The light of the body is the eye. If then your eye is sound, your whole body shall be light.
23 “But if your eye is wicked, then all your body shall be dark. So, if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness?
24 “No man can serve two masters. For either he shall hate the one, and love the other, or else he shall lean to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and riches.
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not be careful for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, what you shall put on. Has not life more worth than food? And the body than clothing?
26 “Behold the birds of the heaven. For they neither sow nor reap, nor carry into the barns. Yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they?
27 “Which of you by worrying is able to add one cubit to his lifespan?
28 “And why do you care for clothes? Learn how the lilies of the field grow. They neither weary nor spin.
29 “Yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 “So, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall He not do much more to you? O you of little faith.
31 “Therefore, take no thought saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘How shall we be clothed?’
32 “For the Gentiles seek after all these things. And your Heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.
33 “But seek first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
34 “Care not then for tomorrow. For tomorrow shall care for itself. The day has enough with its own grief.”
6 Then King Darius gave commandment. And they searched in the library of the treasures which were laid up there in Babel.
2 And a volume was found in a coffer (in the palace that was in the province of the Medes). And a memorial was written in it:
3 “IN THE FIRST year of King Cyrus, King Cyrus made a decree for the House of God in Jerusalem: ‘Let the House be built, the place where they offered Sacrifices. And let its walls be joined together. Let its height be sixty cubits, and its width sixty cubits,
4 ‘with three rows of great stones, and one row of timber. And let the expenses be given from the king’s house.
5 ‘And also let them render the vessels of the House of God (from gold and silver which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the Temple which was in Jerusalem and brought to Babel). And let each go to the Temple in Jerusalem to its place and put it in the House of God.’
6 “Therefore Tattenai, captain beyond the river, and Shethar-Boznai, (and their companions, Apharsecai, who are beyond the River) stay far from there.
7 “Allow the work of this House of God, so that the captain of the Jews and the elders of the Jews may build this House of God in its place.
8 “For I have given a commandment as to what you shall do for the elders of these Jews for the building of this House of God: that the revenue of the king which is from the tribute beyond the River shall immediately be given for these men’s expenses, so that they do not cease.
9 “And that which they shall have need of, let it be given to them day by day, whether it be young bulls, or rams, or lambs for the Burnt Offerings of the God of Heaven, or wheat, salt, wine and oil, according to the appointment of the priests who are in Jerusalem, without fail,
10 “so that they may have sweet odors to offer to the God of Heaven, and pray for the king’s life and for his sons.
11 “And I have made a decree that whoever shall alter this edict shall have the wood pulled down from his house. And it shall be set up, and he shall be hanged on it. And his house shall be made a dunghill for this.
12 “And may the God Who has caused His Name to dwell there destroy all kings and people who make it their intention to alter and to destroy this House of God, which is in Jerusalem. I, Darius, have made a decree. Let it be done with speed.”
13 Then Tattenai, the captain beyond the River, and Shethar-Boznai and their companions, did according to that which Darius had sent, speedily.
14 So the elders of the Jews built. And they prospered by the prophesying of Haggai the Prophet, and Zechariah, the son of Iddo. And they built and finished it, by the appointment of the God of Israel, and by the commandment of Cyrus and Darius and Artaxerxes, king of Persia.
15 And this House was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.
16 And the children of Israel, the priests and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity kept the dedication of this House of God with joy,
17 and offered one hundred bulls at the dedication of this House of God, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, and twelve goats, for the sin of all Israel, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.
18 And they set the priests in their order, and the Levites in their divisions, over the service of God in Jerusalem, as it is written in the Book of Moses.
19 And the children of the captivity kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month,
20 for the priests and the Levites were purified altogether. And they killed the Passover for all the children of the captivity, and for their brethren, the priests, and for themselves.
21 So, the children of Israel who had come back out of captivity, and all such as had separated themselves to them from the filthiness of the heathen of the land to seek the LORD God of Israel, ate.
22 And they kept the Feast of Unleavened Bread for seven days with joy. For the LORD had made them glad and turned the heart of the king of Assyria to them, to encourage them in the work of the House of God, the God of Israel.
6 And in those days, as the number of the disciples grew, there arose murmuring of the Hellenists toward the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily ministry.
2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples together, and said, “It is not acceptable that we should leave the Word of God to serve the tables.
3 “Therefore brothers, select from among you seven men of good report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint to this business.
4 “And we will give ourselves constantly to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”
5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen (a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost), and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas (a proselyte from Antioch),
6 whom they set before the Apostles. And they prayed and laid their hands on them.
7 And the Word of God increased. And the number of the disciples was multiplied in Jerusalem greatly. And a great number of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 Now Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
9 Then there arose certain ones out of the synagogue who are called ‘Freedmen’ – as well as Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and ones from Cilicia and Asia - and disputed with Stephen.
10 But they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.
11 Then they incited men, who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God!”
12 Thus they moved the people and the elders, and the scribes. And running after him, caught him, and brought him to the Council.
13 And they set forth false witnesses, who said, “This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the Law!
14 “For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place and shall change the ordinances which Moses gave us!”
15 And as all who sat in the Council looked steadfastly at him, they saw his face as the face of an angel.
