M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
4 Afterward, the man knew Eve, his wife. Who conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have obtained a man by the LORD.”
2 And again, she brought forth his brother, Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep; and Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time, it happened that Cain brought an oblation to the LORD from the fruit of the ground.
4 And Abel also brought one from the firstfruits of his sheep (and from the fat of them). And the LORD had respect toward Abel, and to his offering.
5 But to Cain and to his offering He had no regard. Therefore, Cain was exceedingly angry; and his face was cast down.
6 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why is your face cast down?
7 “If you do well, shall you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. Also, his desire shall be subject to you; and you shall rule over him.”
8 Then Cain spoke to Abel, his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him.
9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is Abel, your brother?” He answered, “I cannot tell. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
10 Again He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the earth.
11 “Therefore, you are now cursed from the earth, which has opened her mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
12 “From now on, when you shall till the ground, it shall not yield her strength to you. A vagabond and a fugitive shall you be on the Earth.”
13 Then Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 “Behold, You have cast me out from the Earth today. And I shall be hidden from Your face and shall be a vagabond and a fugitive on the Earth. And whoever finds me shall kill me.”
15 Then the LORD said to him, “Doubtless, whoever kills Cain, he shall be punished sevenfold.” And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any man finding him should kill him.
16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod, toward the east side of Eden.
17 Cain also knew his wife, who conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city and called the name of the city by the name of his son, Enoch.
18 And to Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begat Mehujael; and Mehujael begat Methushael; and Methushael begat Lamech.
19 ¶ And Lamech took to him two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 And Adah bore Jabal, who was the father of those who dwell in the tents, and of those who have cattle.
21 And his brother’s name was Jubal, who was the father of all who play on the harp and organs.
22 And Zillah also bore Tubal-Cain, who wrought cunningly every craft of brass and of iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
23 Then Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Zillah, “Hear my voice, you wives of Lamech. Listen my speech. For I would kill a man for wounding me, and a young man who hurts me.
24 “If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy times sevenfold.”
25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son. And she called his name Seth. “For God,” said she, “has appointed another seed to me, to replace Abel, because Cain killed him.”
26 And to the same Seth there was also born a son. And he called his name “Enosh”. Then men began to call upon the Name of the LORD.
4 Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the devil.
2 And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was hungry.
3 Then the tempter came to Him, and said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.”
4 But He, answering, said, “It is written, man shall not live by bread only, but by every Word that proceeds out of the Mouth of God.”
5 Then the devil took Him up into the Holy City and set Him on a pinnacle of the Temple,
6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, cast Yourself down. For it is written that ‘He will give His angels charge over you. And they shall lift you up with their hands, lest at any time you should dash your foot against a stone.’”
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”
8 Again, the devil took Him up into an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them,
9 and said to Him, “All these I will give You, if You will fall down, and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Get away, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, And Him only shall you serve.’”
11 Then the devil left Him. And behold, the angels came and ministered to Him.
12 And when Jesus had heard that John was committed to prison, he returned into Galilee.
13 And leaving Nazareth, He went and dwelt in Capernaum, which is near the sea, on the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali.
14 So that that which was spoken by Isaiah the Prophet might be fulfilled, which says,
15 “The land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali – by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan - Galilee of the Gentiles:
16 The people who sat in darkness, saw great light. And to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is risen up.”
17 From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, “Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”
18 And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers - Simon (who was called Peter) and Andrew his brother - casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen.)
19 And He said to them, “Follow Me. And I will make you fishers of men.”
20 And immediately, having left the nets, they followed Him.
21 And when He had gone forth from there, He saw two other brothers - James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother - in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And He called them.
22 And without hesitation, they (leaving the ship and their father) followed Him.
23 So Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
24 And His fame spread throughout all Syria. And they brought to Him all sick people who were taken with diverse diseases and torments, and those who were possessed with demons, and lunatics, and those who had the palsy. And He healed them.
25 And great multitudes followed Him out of Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond Jordan.
4 Now the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity built the Temple to the LORD God of Israel.
2 And they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief fathers, and said to them, “We will build with you. For we seek the LORD your God like you; and we have sacrificed to Him since the time of Esarhaddon, king of Assyria, who brought us up here.”
3 Then Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the chief fathers of Israel said to them, “It is not for you but for us to build the House to our God. For we ourselves together will build it to the LORD God of Israel, as King Cyrus, the king of Persia, has commanded us.”
4 Therefore, the people of the land discouraged the people of Judah, and troubled them in building.
5 And they hired counselors against them to hinder their plans all the days of Cyrus, king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius, king of Persia.
6 And in the reign of Ahasuerus (in the beginning of his reign) they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
7 And in the days of Artachshashta, when it was peace, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions wrote to Artaxerxes, king of Persia. And the writing of the letter was in the Aramites’ writing. And the thing declared was in the language of the Aramites.
8 Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, wrote a letter of this type to Artaxerxes the king, against Jerusalem.
9 Then, Rehum the chancellor wrote, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions Dinai and Apharsathcai, Tarpelai, Persia, Archevai, Bablai, Shushanchai, Dehave, Elamai,
10 and the rest of the people whom the great and noble Osnapper brought over and set in the cities of Samaria, and others who are beyond the River and Cheeneth.
11 This is the copy of the letter that they sent to King Artaxerxes, “THY SERVANTS, the men beyond the River and Cheeneth:
12 “Be it known to the king that the Jews who came up from you to us have come to Jerusalem (a rebellious and wicked city). And they build and lay the foundations of the walls and have joined the foundations.
13 “Be it known now to the king that if this city is built, and the foundations of the walls laid, they will give neither toll, tribute nor custom. So shall they hinder the king’s tribute.
14 “Now therefore, since we have been brought up in the palace, it was not right for us to see the king’s dishonor. For this reason, we have sent and informed the king,
15 “so that one may search in the Book of the Chronicles of your fathers, and you shall find in the Book of the Chronicles and perceive that this city is rebellious and noisome to kings and provinces, and that they have incited sedition in former times, for which reason this city was destroyed.
16 “We inform the king that if this city is built, and the foundation of the walls laid, by this means the portion beyond the River shall not be yours.”
17 The king sent an answer to Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe and to the rest of their companions who dwelt in Samaria, and to the others beyond the River (Shelam and Cheeth).
18 “The letter which you sent to us has been openly read before me.
19 “And I have commanded, and they have searched, and found, that this city has made insurrection against kings in former times and has rebelled. And rebellion has been committed in it.
20 “Also, there have been mighty kings over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all beyond the River. And toll, tribute and custom were given to them.
21 “Now make a decree that those men may cease, and that the city not be built until I have given commandment.
22 “Be careful now that you do not fail to do this. Why should damage grow to hurt the king?”
23 When the copy of King Artaxerxes’s letter was read before Rehum and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up quickly to Jerusalem, to the Jews, and made them cease by force and power.
24 Then the work of the House of God which was in Jerusalem ceased. And it ceased until the second year of Darius, king of Persia.
4 And as they spoke to the people, the priests and the Captain of the Temple and the Sadducees came upon them,
2 annoyed that they taught the people and preached the resurrection from the dead in Jesus’ Name.
3 And they laid hands on them and put them in custody until the next day. For it was now evening.
4 However, many of those who heard the Word, believed. And the number of the men was about five thousand.
5 And on the next day it so happened that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, were gathered together at Jerusalem;
6 and Annas, the High Priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were in the family of the High Priest.
7 And when they had set them before them, they asked, “By what power, or in what Name, have you done this?”
8 Then Peter, full of the Holy Ghost, said to them, “Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel!
9 “If we are being examined today regarding the good deed done to the impotent man (or, by what means he is made whole),
10 “be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth - Whom you have crucified, Whom God raised again from the dead - by Him does this man stand here before you, whole.
11 “This is the Stone cast aside by you builders, which has become the Cornerstone.
12 “Nor is there salvation in any other. For among men there is given no other Name under heaven whereby we must be saved.”
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and understood that they were unlearned men and without knowledge, they marveled. And they recognized them, that they had been with Jesus.
14 And seeing also the man who was healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against it.
15 Then they commanded them to go aside, out of the council, and conferred among themselves,
16 saying, “What shall we do to these men? For surely a known sign is done by them, which is apparent to all those who dwell in Jerusalem. And we cannot deny it.
17 “But so that it goes no further among the people, let us threaten and charge them, so that they speak no more in this Name to any man.”
18 So they called them, and commanded them, that they should never speak or teach in the Name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John answered them, and said, “Whether it is right in the sight of God - to obey you rather than God - you be the judge.
20 “For we can only speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
21 So they threatened them and let them go. And they found no way to punish them, because of the people. For they all praised God for what was done.
22 For the man upon whom this miracle of healing was shown was over forty years old.
23 Then, as soon as they were let go, they came home, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.
24 And when they heard it, they lifted up their voices in unison to God, and said, “O Lord, You are the God Who has made the heaven, and the Earth, the sea, and all things that are in them;
25 “Who, by the mouth of Your servant David, has said, ‘Why did the Gentiles rage, and the people imagine empty things?
26 ‘The kings of the Earth assembled, and the rulers came together against the Lord, and against His Christ.’
27 “For doubtless, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, gathered themselves together against Your Holy Son Jesus - Whom You have anointed -
28 “to do whatever Your hand and Your counsel had determined beforehand to be done.
29 “And now, O Lord, behold their threats. And grant to Your servants to speak Your Word with all boldness,
30 “by stretching forth Your hand. So that healing and signs and wonders may be done by the Name of Your Holy Son, Jesus.”
31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost. And they spoke the Word of God boldly.
32 And the multitude of those who believed were of one heart, and of one soul. Nor did any of them say that any possession was his own. But they shared everything.
33 And the Apostles witnessed the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with great power. And great grace was upon them all.
34 Nor were there any among them in need. For as many as possessed lands or houses sold them, and brought the price of the things that were sold,
35 and laid it down at the Apostles’ feet. And it was distributed to each according to his need.
36 Also Joses, who was called ‘Barnabas’ by the Apostles (which means ‘son of encouragement’), a Levite from the country of Cyprus,
37 sold a field which he owned. And he brought the money and laid it down at the Apostles’ feet.
