Exodus 38

Making the Altar for Burnt Gifts

38 Then he made the altar for burnt gifts of acacia wood. It was as long and as wide as three steps, and as tall as a man’s chest. He made horns on its four corners of one piece with it and covered it with brass. He made all the objects of the altar, its pails, its tools for picking up the ashes, its pots, meat-hooks and fire-holders of brass. He made a net for it of brass. It was put under the altar and it came up half-way. He put four rings of brass at the four corners of the net to hold the long pieces of wood. He made the long pieces of wood out of acacia wood and covered them with brass. He put the long pieces of wood through the rings on each side of the altar for carrying it. He made the altar with pieces of wood so it was empty inside.

Making the Pot of Brass for Washing

He made the pot for washing and its base of brass. They were made from the mirrors of the women servants who worked at the door of the meeting tent. Then he made the open space for the holy tent. On the south side were curtains for the open space. They were made of fine linen, as long as fifty long steps. 10 They hung from twenty pillars with twenty brass bases. The hooks of the pillar and their rings were made of silver. 11 And on the north side there were curtains as long as fifty long steps, and twenty pillars with twenty brass bases. The hooks of the pillars and their rings were made of silver. 12 On the west side there were curtains as long as twenty-five long steps. They had ten pillars with ten bases. The hooks of the pillars and their rings were made of silver. 13 The east side was as wide as twenty-five long steps. 14 The curtains for one side of the gate were as long as seven steps. They had three pillars with three bases. 15 And on the other side there were curtains as long as seven steps, with three pillars and three bases. 16 All the curtains around the open space were made of fine linen. 17 The bases for the pillars were made of brass. The hooks of the pillars and their rings were made of silver. Their tops were covered with silver. And the pillars were joined with silver. 18 The curtain for the gate of the open space was the work of an able workman. It was made of blue, purple and red cloth and fine linen. It was as long as ten long steps, and as high as a man raises his hand, to go with the curtains around the open space. 19 Its four pillars and their bases were made of brass. Their hooks and rings were made of silver. And their tops were covered with silver. 20 All the nails of the meeting tent and the open space were made of brass.

The Parts Are Weighed

21 This is the number of the things for the meeting tent, the meeting tent of the Law, as they were given by the mouth of Moses, for the work of the Levites, under the leading of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the religious leader. 22 Bezalel, the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the family of Judah, made all that the Lord had told Moses. 23 With him was Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the family of Dan. He was an able workman who cut words in stone, gold or silver, and in sewing blue, purple and red cloth and fine linen.

24 All the gold used for the work of the holy tent, the gold given as a gift in worship, weighed as much as twelve men. 25 The silver given by the people weighed as much as forty men. 26 Each one of the men who were twenty years old and older, added up to 603,550 men, gave only a small weight of silver. 27 One hundred heavy weights of silver were used for making the bases for the holy tent and for the curtain in front of the most holy place. One hundred bases were made from the heavy weights of silver. 28 And from the heavy weights of silver he made hooks and joining parts for the pillars, and also covered their tops. 29 The brass that was given weighed as much as thirty men. 30 With it he made the base for the door of the meeting tent, the brass altar and its brass net, and all the objects of the altar. 31 He also made bases all around the open space and the base for the gate of the open space, and all the nails of the meeting tent and all around the open space.

John 17

Jesus Prays for Himself

17 When Jesus had said these things, He looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the time has come! Honor Your Son so Your Son may honor You. You have given Him power over all men. He is to give life that lasts forever to all You have given to Him. This is life that lasts forever. It is to know You, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ Whom You have sent. I honored You on earth. I did the work You gave Me to do. Now, Father, honor Me with the honor I had with You before the world was made.

Jesus Prays for His Followers

“I have made Your name known to the people You have given Me from the world. They were Yours but You gave them to Me. They have obeyed Your Word. Now they know that everything You have given Me came from You. I gave them the Word which You gave Me. They received it. They know I came from You and they believe You sent Me.

“I pray for them. I do not pray for the world. I pray for those You gave Me. They are Yours. 10 All that is Mine is Yours. All that is Yours is Mine. I have been honored through them. 11 I am no longer in the world. I am coming to You. But these are still in the world. Holy Father, keep those You have given to Me in the power of Your name. Then they will be one, even as We are One. 12 While I have been with them in the world, I have kept them in the power of Your name. I have kept watch over those You gave Me. Not one of them has been lost except the one who is going to be destroyed, which is the son of death. The Holy Writings said it would happen. (A) 13 But now I come to You, Father. I say these things while I am in the world. In this way, My followers may have My joy in their hearts.

14 “I have given Your Word to My followers. The world hated them because they do not belong to the world, even as I do not belong to the world. 15 I do not ask You to take them out of the world. I ask You to keep them from the devil. 16 My followers do not belong to the world just as I do not belong to the world. 17 Make them holy for Yourself by the truth. Your Word is truth.

18 “As You sent Me into the world so I have sent them into the world also. 19 I set Myself apart to be holy for them. Then they may be made holy by the truth.

Jesus Prays for All Christians

20 “I do not pray for these followers only. I pray for those who will put their trust in Me through the teaching they have heard. 21 May they all be as one, Father, as You are in Me and I am in You. May they belong to Us. Then the world will believe that You sent Me. 22 I gave them the honor You gave Me that they may be one as We are One. 23 I am in them and You are in Me so they may be one and be made perfect. Then the world may know that You sent Me and that You love them as You love Me.

24 “Father, I want My followers You gave Me to be with Me where I am. Then they may see My shining-greatness which You gave Me because You loved Me before the world was made. 25 Holy Father, the world has not known You. I have known You. These have known You sent Me. 26 I have made Your name known to them and will make it known. So then the love You have for Me may be in them and I may be in them.”

Proverbs 14

14 The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.

He who walks in honor fears the Lord, but he who is sinful in his ways hates Him.

A foolish man’s talk brings a stick to his back, but the lips of the wise will keep them safe.

There is no grain where there are no oxen, but much grain comes by the strength of the ox.

A faithful man who tells what he knows will not lie, but the man who is not faithful will lie.

One who laughs at the truth looks for wisdom and does not find it, but much learning is easy to him who has understanding.

Go away from a foolish man, for you will not find words of much learning.

The wisdom of the wise man is to understand what to do, but lying is the foolish way of fools.

Fools laugh at sin, but the favor of God is among the faithful.

10 The heart knows when it is bitter, and a stranger cannot share its joy.

11 The house of the sinful will be destroyed, but all will go well in the tent of the faithful.

12 There is a way which looks right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

13 Even while laughing the heart may be in pain, and the end of joy may be sorrow.

14 The man who has gone back into sin will get the fruit of his ways, and a good man will get the fruit of what he does.

15 The one who is easy to fool believes everything, but the wise man looks where he goes.

16 A wise man fears God and turns away from what is sinful, but a fool is full of pride and is not careful.

17 He who has a quick temper acts in a foolish way, and a man who makes sinful plans is hated.

18 Those who are easy to fool are foolish, but the wise have much learning.

19 Sinful men will bow in front of the good, and at the gates of those who are right with God.

20 The poor man is hated even by his neighbor, but the rich man has many friends.

21 He who hates his neighbor sins, but happy is he who shows loving-favor to the poor.

22 Do not those who make sinful plans go the wrong way? Kindness and truth are for those who plan good.

23 Some good comes from all work. Nothing but talk leads only to being poor.

24 What the wise receive is their riches, but fools are known by their foolish ways.

25 A faithful man who tells what he knows saves lives, but he who tells lies hurts others.

26 There is strong trust in the fear of the Lord, and His children will have a safe place.

27 The fear of the Lord is a well of life. Its waters keep a man from death.

28 The shining-greatness of a king is in many people, but without people a prince has nothing.

29 He who is slow to get angry has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper makes his foolish way look right.

30 A heart that has peace is life to the body, but wrong desires are like the wasting away of the bones.

31 He who makes it hard for the poor brings shame to his Maker, but he who shows loving-favor to those in need honors Him.

32 The sinful is thrown down by his wrong-doing, but the man who is right with God has a safe place when he dies.

33 Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding, but what is in the heart of fools is made known.

34 Being right with God makes a nation great, but sin is a shame to any people.

35 The king’s favor is toward a wise servant, but his anger is toward the one who brings shame by what he does.

Philippians 1

This letter is from Paul and Timothy. We are servants owned by Jesus Christ. This letter is to all who belong to Christ Jesus who are living in the city of Philippi and to the church leaders and their helpers also. May you have loving-favor and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul Gives Thanks For the True Christians

I thank God for you whenever I think of you. I always have joy as I pray for all of you. It is because you have told others the Good News from the first day you heard it until now. I am sure that God Who began the good work in you will keep on working in you until the day Jesus Christ comes again. It is right for me to feel like this about all of you. It is because you are very dear to me. While I was in prison and when I was proving that the Good News is true, you all shared God’s loving-favor with me. God knows what I am saying. He knows how much I love you all with a love that comes from Jesus Christ. And this is my prayer: I pray that your love will grow more and more. I pray that you will have better understanding and be wise in all things. 10 I pray that you will know what is the very best. I pray that you will be true and without blame until the day Christ comes again. 11 And I pray that you will be filled with the fruits of right living. These come from Jesus Christ, with honor and thanks to God.

Paul’s Being in Prison Has Turned Out to Be a Good Thing

12 Christian brothers, I want you to know that what has happened to me has helped spread the Good News. 13 Everyone around here knows why I am in prison. It is because I preached about Jesus Christ. All the soldiers who work for the leader of the country know why I am here. 14 Because of this, most of my Christian brothers have had their faith in the Lord made stronger. They have more power to preach the Word of God without fear.

15 Some are preaching because they are jealous and want to make trouble. Others are doing it for the right reason. 16 These do it because of love. They know that I am put here to prove the Good News is true. 17 The others preach about Christ for what they get out of it. Their hearts are not right. They want to make me suffer while I am in prison. 18 What difference does it make if they pretend or if they are true? I am happy, yes, and I will keep on being happy that Christ is preached.

19 Because of your prayers and the help the Holy Spirit gives me, all of this will turn out for good. 20 I hope very much that I will have no reason to be ashamed. I hope to honor Christ with my body if it be by my life or by my death. I want to honor Him without fear, now and always. 21 To me, living means having Christ. To die means that I would have more of Him. 22 If I keep on living here in this body, it means that I can lead more people to Christ. I do not know which is better. 23 There is a strong pull from both sides. I have a desire to leave this world to be with Christ, which is much better. 24 But it is more important for you that I stay. 25 I am sure I will live to help you grow and be happy in your faith. 26 This will give you reason to give more thanks to Christ Jesus when I come to visit you again.

Fight for the Faith

27 Live your lives as the Good News of Christ says you should. If I come to you or not, I want to hear that you are standing true as one. I want to hear that you are working together as one, preaching the Good News. 28 Do not be afraid of those who hate you. Their hate for you proves they will be destroyed. It proves you have life from God that lasts forever. 29 You are not only to put your trust in Him, but you are to suffer for Him also. 30 You know what the fight is like. Now it is time for you to have a part in it as I have.
