M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
The Seventh Day—a Holy Day
35 Then Moses gathered together all the people of Israel, saying, “These are the things that the Lord has told you to do. 2 Work may be done for six days. But the seventh day will be a holy day for you, a Day of Rest to the Lord. Whoever does any work on this day will be put to death. 3 Do not make a fire in any of your tents on the Day of Rest.”
Gifts for the Meeting Tent
4 Moses said to all the people of Israel, “This is what the Lord has told you to do. 5 Take from among you a gift to the Lord. Whoever has a willing heart, let him bring the Lord’s gift: gold, silver and brass, 6 and blue, purple and red cloth, fine linen, cloth made from goat hair, 7 rams’ skins made red, badgers’ skins and acacia wood, 8 lamp oil, spices for the oil for holy use and for the sweet-smelling perfume, 9 onyx stones and stones to be set for the linen vest and the breast-piece.
Parts of the Meeting Tent
10 “Let every able workman among you come and make all that the Lord has told us to make: 11 the meeting tent, its tent and its covering, its hooks, its wood pieces, its cross-pieces, its pillars and their bases, 12 the special box of the agreement and the long pieces of wood for carrying it, the mercy-seat, the curtain to hang in front of it, 13 the table and the long pieces of wood for carrying it, all its objects, and the holy bread to set before the Lord. 14 Also the able workmen are to make: the lamp-stand for the light, and its lamps and oil for the light, 15 the altar of special perfume and the long pieces of wood for carrying it, the oil for holy use, the sweet-smelling perfume, and the curtain for the door of the meeting tent. 16 Also they are to make: the altar of burnt gifts with its brass net and long pieces of wood for carrying it, all its objects, the washing pot and its base, 17 the curtains of the open space, its pillars and its bases, and the curtain for the gate of the open space. 18 Also the able workmen are to make: the nails of the meeting tent and the nails of the open space and their ropes, 19 the well-made clothing for working in the holy place, the holy clothing for Aaron the religious leader, and the clothing for his sons as they work as religious leaders.”
People Bring Their Gifts
20 Then all the people of Israel went away from Moses. 21 And every one whose heart or spirit moved him brought the Lord’s gift to be used for the meeting tent, for all its work, and for the holy clothing. 22 Then all the men and women who wanted to give brought objects of gold that had been worn on their clothing, ears, fingers and arms. Every man gave a gift of gold to the Lord. 23 And every one who had blue, purple and red cloth, fine linen, cloth made from goats’ hair, rams’ skins made red, and badgers’ skins, brought them. 24 Every one who could give a gift of silver or brass brought it as a gift to the Lord. Every one who had acacia wood to be used for the work, brought it. 25 All the able women made cloth with their hands. They brought the blue, purple and red cloth and fine linen they had made. 26 All the able women whose hearts moved them made cloth from goat hair. 27 The leaders brought the onyx stones and the stones to be set for the linen vest and the breast-piece, 28 and the spice and the oil for the light, and the oil for holy use, and for the sweet-smelling perfume. 29 The people of Israel who wanted to brought gifts to the Lord. Every man and woman, whose heart moved them, brought what the Lord had told them through Moses.
Workmen Called by God
30 Then Moses said to the people of Israel, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the family of Judah. 31 The Lord has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, understanding, much learning, and in all work. 32 So he can make plans for working in gold, silver and brass, 33 and cut stones to be set, cut wood, and do good work of every kind. 34 The Lord has given him the power to teach also, both he and Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the family of Dan. 35 He has made them able to do every work: writing words in stone, gold, silver and brass, planning, sewing beautiful work on blue, purple and red cloth and fine linen, making cloth, and all kinds of work done by able workmen.
Jesus Comforts His Followers
14 “Do not let your heart be troubled. You have put your trust in God, put your trust in Me also. 2 There are many rooms in My Father’s house. If it were not so, I would have told you. I am going away to make a place for you. 3 After I go and make a place for you, I will come back and take you with Me. Then you may be where I am. 4 You know where I am going and you know how to get there.”
5 Thomas said to Jesus, “Lord, we do not know where You are going. How can we know the way to get there?” 6 Jesus said, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one can go to the Father except by Me. 7 If you had known Me, you would know My Father also. From now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
Jesus and His Father Are One
8 Philip said to Jesus, “Lord, show us the Father. That is all we ask.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time and you do not know Me yet? Whoever has seen Me, has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and that the Father is in Me? What I say to you, I do not say by My own power. The Father Who lives in Me does His work through Me.
11 “Believe Me that I am in the Father and that the Father is in Me. Or else believe Me because of the things I do. 12 For sure, I tell you, whoever puts his trust in Me can do the things I am doing. He will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it so the shining-greatness of the Father may be seen in the Son. 14 Yes, if you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
Jesus Promises to Give the Holy Spirit
15 “If you love Me, you will do what I say. 16 Then I will ask My Father and He will give you another Helper. He will be with you forever. 17 He is the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot receive Him. It does not see Him or know Him. You know Him because He lives with you and will be in you.
Jesus Tells of His Death
18 “I will not leave you without help as children without parents. I will come to you. 19 In a little while the world will see Me no more. You will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 When that day comes, you will know that I am in My Father. You will know that you are in Me. You will know that I am in you. 21 The one who loves Me is the one who has My teaching and obeys it. My Father will love whoever loves Me. I will love him and will show Myself to him.”
22 The other Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Why is it You are going to show Yourself to us followers and not to the world?” 23 Jesus said, “The one who loves Me will obey My teaching. My Father will love him. We will come to him and live with him. 24 The one who does not love Me does not obey My teaching. The teaching you are now hearing is not My teaching but it is from My Father Who sent Me.
25 “I have told you these things while I am still with you. 26 The Helper is the Holy Spirit. The Father will send Him in My place. He will teach you everything and help you remember everything I have told you.
Jesus Gives His Followers Peace
27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give peace to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. 28 You heard Me say that I am going away. But I am coming back to you. If you love Me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father. The Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you this before it happens. Then when it does happen, you will believe.
30 “I will not talk much more with you. The leader of this world is coming. He has no power over Me. 31 I am doing what the Father told Me to do so the world may know I love the Father. Come, let us be on our way.
11 The Lord hates a false weight, but a true weight is His joy.
2 When pride comes, then comes shame, but wisdom is with those who have no pride.
3 The honor of good people will lead them, but those who hurt others will be destroyed by their own false ways.
4 Riches are of no use in the day of God’s anger, but being right with God saves from death.
5 Those right with God, who are without blame, make a straight way for themselves, but the sinful will fall by their own wrong-doing.
6 Being right with God will save the honest man, but those who hurt others will be trapped by their wrong desires.
7 When a sinful man dies, his hope dies with him, and all his power comes to nothing.
8 The one who is right with God is kept from trouble, but the sinful get into trouble instead.
9 The sinful man destroys his neighbor with his mouth, but those who are fair will be saved through knowing God.
10 The city is glad when everything goes well with those who are right with God, and there are shouts of joy when the sinful are destroyed.
11 A city is honored by the good things that come to the faithful, but it is torn down by the mouth of the sinful.
12 He who hates his neighbor does not think well, but a man of understanding keeps quiet.
13 He who is always telling stories makes secrets known, but he who can be trusted keeps a thing hidden.
14 A nation falls where there is no wise leading, but it is safe where there are many wise men who know what to do.
15 He who puts himself as trust for what a stranger owes to another will suffer for it, but he who hates to be trusted for what another owes is safe.
16 A kind woman gets honor, and bad men get riches.
17 The man who shows loving-kindness does himself good, but the man without pity hurts himself.
18 The sinful man earns false pay, but he who spreads what is right and good gets pay that is sure.
19 He who will not be moved from being right with God will live, but he who goes for what is bad will bring about his own death.
20 The Lord hates those who are sinful in heart, but those who walk without blame are His joy.
21 Know for sure that the sinful man will not go without being punished, but the children of those who are right with God will be saved.
22 A beautiful woman who does not think well is like a gold ring in the nose of a pig.
23 The desire of those who are right with God is only good, but the hope of the sinful is anger.
24 There is one who is free in giving, and yet he grows richer. And there is one who keeps what he should give, but he ends up needing more.
25 The man who gives much will have much, and he who helps others will be helped himself.
26 The people curse him who keeps grain for himself, but good comes to him who sells it.
27 He who looks for good finds favor, but he who looks for wrong-doing will have bad come to him.
28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, but those who are right with God will grow like a green leaf.
29 He who troubles his own house will be given the wind, and the foolish will serve those with a wise heart.
30 The fruit of those who are right with God is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.
31 If those who are right with God will be paid on earth, how much more the sinful and the wrong-doer!
Full-Grown Christians
4 I am being held in prison because of working for the Lord. I ask you from my heart to live and work the way the Lord expected you to live and work. 2 Live and work without pride. Be gentle and kind. Do not be hard on others. Let love keep you from doing that. 3 Work hard to live together as one by the help of the Holy Spirit. Then there will be peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit. There is one hope in which you were called. 5 There is one Lord and one faith and one baptism. 6 There is one God. He is the Father of us all. He is over us all. He is the One working through us all. He is the One living in us all.
7 Loving-favor has been given to each one of us. We can see how great it is by the gift of Christ. 8 The Holy Writings say, “When Christ went up to heaven, He took those who were held with Him. He gave gifts to men.” (A) 9 When they say, “He went up,” what does it mean but that He had first gone down to the deep parts of the earth? 10 Christ Who went down into the deep also went up far above the heavens. He did this to fill all the world with Himself.
11 Christ gave gifts to men. He gave to some the gift to be missionaries, some to be preachers, others to be preachers who go from town to town. He gave others the gift to be church leaders and teachers. 12 These gifts help His people work well for Him. And then the church which is the body of Christ will be made strong. 13 All of us are to be as one in the faith and in knowing the Son of God. We are to be full-grown Christians standing as high and complete as Christ is Himself. 14 Then we will not be as children any longer. Children are like boats thrown up and down on big waves. They are blown with the wind. False teaching is like the wind. False teachers try everything possible to make people believe a lie, 15 but we are to hold to the truth with love in our hearts. We are to grow up and be more like Christ. He is the leader of the church. 16 Christ has put each part of the church in its right place. Each part helps other parts. This is what is needed to keep the whole body together. In this way, the whole body grows strong in love.
The Old and the New Life
17 I tell you this in the name of the Lord: You must not live any longer like the people of the world who do not know God. Their thoughts are foolish. 18 Their minds are in darkness. They are strangers to the life of God. This is because they have closed their minds to Him and have turned their hearts away from Him. 19 They do not care anymore about what is right or wrong. They have turned themselves over to the sinful ways of the world and are always wanting to do every kind of sinful act they can think of.
20 But you did not learn anything like this from Christ. 21 If you have heard of Him and have learned from Him, 22 put away the old person you used to be. Have nothing to do with your old sinful life. It was sinful because of being fooled into following bad desires. 23 Let your minds and hearts be made new. 24 You must become a new person and be God-like. Then you will be made right with God and have a true holy life.
25 So stop lying to each other. Tell the truth to your neighbor. We all belong to the same body. 26 If you are angry, do not let it become sin. Get over your anger before the day is finished. 27 Do not let the devil start working in your life. 28 Anyone who steals must stop it! He must work with his hands so he will have what he needs and can give to those who need help. 29 Watch your talk! No bad words should be coming from your mouth. Say what is good. Your words should help others grow as Christians. 30 Do not make God’s Holy Spirit have sorrow for the way you live. The Holy Spirit has put a mark on you for the day you will be set free. 31 Put out of your life all these things: bad feelings about other people, anger, temper, loud talk, bad talk which hurts other people, and bad feelings which hurt other people. 32 You must be kind to each other. Think of the other person. Forgive other people just as God forgave you because of Christ’s death on the cross.
