M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
Jacob and His Family Go to Egypt
46 So Israel traveled with all he had to Beersheba. There he gave gifts to the God of his father Isaac. 2 God spoke to Israel in special dreams in the night, saying, “Jacob, Jacob.” And Jacob answered, “Here I am.” 3 He said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go to Egypt. For I will make you a great nation there. 4 I will go with you to Egypt. I will bring you out again. And Joseph’s hand will close your eyes.”
5 Then Jacob left Beersheba. The sons of Israel carried their father Jacob, their little ones and their wives in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. 6 They took their animals and all the things they owned from the land of Canaan. And they came to Egypt, Jacob and all his children with him, 7 his sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters. He brought all his children with him to Egypt.
8 These are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, 9 and Reuben’s sons Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
10 The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman. 11 The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath and Merari. 12 The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. 13 The sons of Issachar were Tola, Puvvah, Iob, and Shimron. 14 The sons of Zebulun were Sered, Elon and Jahleel. 15 These are the sons who were born to Leah and Jacob in Paddan-aram, with his daughter Dinah. He had thirty-three sons and daughters.
16 The sons of Gad were Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli. 17 The sons of Asher were Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and their sister Serah. The sons of Beriah were Heber and Malchiel. 18 These are the sons of Jacob and Zilpah, the woman whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah. She gave birth to sixteen of Jacob’s children.
19 The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin. 20 The sons of Joseph in the land of Egypt were Manasseh and Ephraim. Their mother was Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, the religious leader of On. 21 The sons of Benjamin were Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. 22 These are the sons of Jacob and Rachel, fourteen sons in all. 23 Dan’s son was Hushim. 24 The sons of Naphtali were Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem. 25 These are the sons of Jacob and Bilhah, the woman whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel. There were seven sons in all.
26 All the people who came to Egypt with Jacob, the children of his own body, were sixty-six people in all. Added to this were the wives of Jacob’s sons. 27 Two sons were born to Joseph in Egypt. So all the people of Jacob’s family when he came to Egypt were seventy.
Jacob Lives in Goshen
28 Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to learn the way to Goshen. And they came to the land of Goshen. 29 Then Joseph made his wagon ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. When he came to him, they put their arms around each other and cried for a long time. 30 Then Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face and know that you are still alive.”
31 Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s family, “I will go and tell Pharaoh, ‘My brothers and my father’s family have come to me from the land of Canaan. 32 And the men are shepherds, for they have taken care of animals. They have brought their flocks and cattle and all they have.’ 33 When Pharaoh calls you and says, ‘What is your work?’ 34 you answer, ‘Your servants have taken care of cattle since we were young, both we and our fathers.’ Then he will let you live in the land of Goshen. For the Egyptians look down upon every shepherd.”
Jesus Is Raised from the Dead (A)
16 The Day of Rest was over. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices. They wanted to put the spices on Jesus’ body. 2 Very early in the morning on the first day of the week, they came to the grave. The sun had come up. 3 They said to themselves, “Who will roll the stone away from the door of the grave for us?” 4 But when they looked, they saw the very large stone had been rolled away.
5 They went into the grave. There they saw a young man with a long white coat sitting on the right side. They were afraid. 6 He said, “Do not be afraid. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth Who was nailed to a cross. He is risen! He is not here! See, here is the place where they laid Him. 7 Go and tell His followers and Peter that He is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see Him there as He told you.” 8 They ran from the grave shaking and were surprised. They did not say anything to anyone because they were afraid.
The Followers of Jesus Do Not Believe He Was Raised from the Dead (B)
9 (*It was early on the first day of the week when Jesus was raised from the dead. Mary Magdalene saw Him first. He had put seven demons out of her. 10 She went and told His followers. They were crying because of much sorrow. 11 But they did not believe her when she said she had seen Him alive.
12 After that He was seen again by two of His followers as they walked into the country. He did not look like He had looked before to these two people. 13 They went and told it to the others. The others did not believe them.
14 Later He was seen by the eleven followers as they were eating. He spoke to them with sharp words because they did not believe and their hearts were hard. And they did not believe the others who had seen Him since He had been raised from the dead.
Jesus Sends His Followers to Preach (C)
15 He said to them, “You are to go to all the world and preach the Good News to every person. 16 He who puts his trust in Me and is baptized will be saved from the punishment of sin. But he who does not put his trust in Me is guilty and will be punished forever. 17 These special powerful works will be done by those who have put their trust in Me. In My name they will put out demons. They will speak with languages they have never learned. 18 They will pick up snakes. If they drink any poison, it will not hurt them. They will put their hands on the sick and they will be healed.”
19 After Jesus had talked to them, He was taken up into heaven. He sat down on the right side of God.
20 The followers went from there and preached everywhere. The Lord worked with them. The Lord showed that the Word of God was true by the special works they had power to do.)
Job Talks
12 Then Job answered, 2 “No doubt you are the people, and wisdom will die with you. 3 But I have understanding as well as you. I am not less than you. Who does not know such things as these? 4 Even my friends laugh at me. The man who called on God, and God answered him, the man who is right and without blame is laughed at. 5 He who lives in comfort laughs at one who has trouble and whose feet are slipping. 6 The tents of those who destroy have much. Those who make God angry are safe and have their god in their own hands.
7 “But ask the wild animals, and they will teach you. Ask the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you. 8 Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you. Let the fish of the sea make it known to you. 9 Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? 10 In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all men. 11 Does not the ear test words as the mouth tastes food? 12 Wisdom is with old men, and understanding with long life.
13 “With God are wisdom and strength. Wise words and understanding belong to Him. 14 See, He tears down, and it cannot be built again. He puts a man in prison, and no one can free him. 15 See, He stops the waters and they dry up. He sends them out, and they cover the earth. 16 Strength and wisdom are with Him. Both the fool and the one who fools him belong to God. 17 He takes wisdom away from leaders and makes fools of judges. 18 He takes off chains put on by kings, and holds back the power of kings. 19 He makes religious leaders walk without pride, and takes the power away from those who think they are safe. 20 He stops the trusted ones from speaking and takes away the wisdom of the leaders. 21 He pours anger on rulers, and takes away the strength of the strong. 22 He makes known hidden truth from the darkness, and brings deep darkness to light. 23 He makes the nations great, and then destroys them. He helps nations to become large, then leads them away. 24 He takes away understanding from the leaders of the people of the earth, and makes them travel in a waste-land with no path. 25 They feel their way in darkness with no light. And He makes them walk from side to side like a drunk man.
16 I want to let you know about our Christian sister Phoebe. She is a helper in the church in the city of Cenchrea. 2 The Christians should receive her as a sister who belongs to the Lord. Help her any way you can. She has helped many people and has helped me also.
3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila. They worked with me for Christ. 4 They almost died for me. I am thankful for them. All the churches that were started among the people who are not Jews are thankful for them also. 5 Greet the church that worships in their house. Greet Epaenetus, my much-loved friend. He was the first Christian in the countries of Asia. 6 Greet Mary. She worked hard for you. 7 Greet Andronicus and Junias. They are from my family and were in prison with me. They put their trust in Christ before I did. They have been respected missionaries. 8 Greet Ampliatus. He is a much-loved Christian brother. 9 Greet Urbanus. He worked with us for Christ. Greet Stachys, my much-loved friend. 10 Greet Apelles. He proved he was faithful to Christ. Greet all the family of Aristobulus. 11 Greet Herodian. He is one of my family. Greet the Christians in the family of Narcissus. 12 Greet Tryphaena and Tryphosa and Persis. They are all much-loved workmen for the Lord. 13 Greet Rufus and his mother. She was like a mother to me. Rufus is a good Christian. 14 Greet Asyncritus and Phlegon and Hermes and Patrobas and Hermas and all the Christians with them. 15 Greet Philologus and Julia and Nereus and his sister and Olympas and all the Christians with them.
16 Greet each other with a kiss of holy love. All the churches here greet you.
17 I ask you, Christian brothers, watch out for those who make trouble and start fights. Keep your eye on those who work against the teaching you received. Keep away from them. 18 Men like that are not working for our Lord Jesus Christ. They are chained to their own desires. With soft words they say things people want to hear. People are fooled by them. 19 Everyone knows you have obeyed the teaching you received. I am happy with you because of this. But I want you to be wise about good things and pure about sinful things. 20 God, Who is our peace, will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the loving-favor of our Lord Jesus be yours. 21 Timothy, my helper, greets you. Lucius and Jason and Sosipater from my family say hello also. 22 I, Tertius, who am writing this letter for Paul, greet you as a Christian brother. 23 Gaius is the man taking care of me. The church meets here in his house. He greets you. Erastus, the man who takes care of the money for the city, says hello and Quartus does also. He is a Christian brother. 24 *May you have loving-favor from our Lord Jesus Christ. Let it be so.
25 We give honor to God. He is able to make you strong as I preach from the Holy Writings about Jesus Christ. It was a secret hidden from the beginning of the world. 26 But now it is for us to know. The early preachers wrote about it. God says it is to be preached to all the people of the world so men can put their trust in God and obey Him.
27 May God, Who only is wise, be honored forever through our Lord Jesus Christ. Let it be so.
