M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
19 Now Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “The gods do so to me and more also if I do not make your life like one of their lives by tomorrow at this time.”
3 When he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and came to Beersheba (which is in Judah) and left his servant there.
4 But he went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a Juniper tree, and desired that he might die, and said, “It is now enough! O LORD, take my soul. For I am no better than my fathers.”
5 And as he lay, and slept under the Juniper tree, behold, now, an Angel touched him, and said to him, “Up. Eat.”
6 And when he looked around, behold, there was a cake, baked on the coals, and a pot of water, by his head. So he ate and drank and returned and slept.
7 And the Angel of the LORD came again a second time, and touched him, and said, “Up. Eat. For you have a great journey.”
8 Then he arose and ate and drank and walked in the strength of that food for forty days and forty nights, to Horeb, the Mount of God.
9 And he entered into a cave there and lodged there. And behold, the LORD spoke to him, and said to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
10 And he answered, “I have been very jealous for the LORD God of Hosts. For the children of Israel have forsaken Your Covenant, broken down Your Altars, and killed Your Prophets with the sword. And I alone am left. And they seek my life, to take it away.”
11 And He said, “Come out and stand upon the Mount, before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD went by. And a mighty, strong wind tore the mountains and broke the rocks before the LORD. The LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind came an earthquake. The LORD was not in the earthquake.
12 And after the earthquake came fire. The LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a still and soft voice.
13 And when Elijah heard it, he covered his face with his cloak and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
14 And he answered, “I have been very jealous for the LORD God of Hosts, because the children of Israel have forsaken Your Covenant, cast down Your Altars, and killed Your Prophets with the sword. And I alone am left. And they seek my life, to take it away.”
15 And the LORD said to him, “Go. Return by the wilderness to Damascus. And when you come, anoint Hazael king over Aram.
16 “And Jehu, the son of Nimshi, shall you anoint king over Israel. And Elisha, the son of Shaphat, of Abel Meholah, shall you anoint to be Prophet in your room.
17 “And he who escapes from the sword of Hazael, shall Jehu kill. And he who escapes from the sword of Jehu, shall Elisha kill.
18 “Still, I will leave seven thousand in Israel: all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.”
19 So he departed from there and found Elisha, the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yokes of oxen in front of him and was with the twelfth. And Elijah went towards him and cast his cloak upon him.
20 And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” Who answered him, “Go back. For what have I done to you?”
21 And when he went back from him again, he took a couple of oxen and killed them and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen and gave to the people and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and ministered to him.
2 For you yourselves know, brothers, that our coming to you was not in vain.
2 But even after we had suffered before (and were insulted at Philippi, as you know) we were emboldened by God to speak the Gospel of God to you with much struggle.
3 For our encouragement was not in error, nor of impurity, nor by deceit.
4 But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Gospel, so we speak - not as those who please man, but God, Who examines our hearts.
5 Nor did we ever at any time use flattering words (as you know), nor cloaked covetousness. God is our witness.
6 Nor did we seek the praise of man - either by you or by others - when we might have imposed on you as the Apostles of Christ.
7 But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherishes her children.
8 Having this affection toward you, it was our pleasure to have shared with you not only the Gospel of God, but also our own souls, because you were dear to us.
9 For you remember, brothers, our labor and travail. For we labored day and night (so that we would not be a burden to any of you) and preached to you the Gospel of God.
10 You and God are witnesses of how holily, and justly, and unblameably we behaved among you who believe.
11 As you know how we exhorted and comforted and testified to every one of you (as a father to his children).
12 So that you would walk worthy of God, Who has called you to His kingdom, and Glory.
13 For this reason also, we thank God unceasingly that when you received the Word of God (which you heard from us) you did not receive it as the word of man, but as it really is - the Word of God - which also works in you who believe.
14 For brothers, you have become followers of the churches of God (which in Judea are in Christ Jesus) because you have also suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they have from the Judeans,
15 who both killed the Lord Jesus and their own Prophets and have driven us out. And they do not please God and are contrary to all mankind
16 and forbid us to preach to the Gentiles (so that they might be saved), always fulfilling their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the utmost.
17 But since, brothers, we were kept from you for a season (as far as sight, but not in the heart), we were eager to see your face with great desire.
18 Therefore, we would have come to you (I Paul, at least once or twice) but Satan hindered us.
19 For what is our hope or joy or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?
20 Yes! You are our glory and joy!
1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, came Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babel, to Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim, king of Judah, into his hand with part of the vessels of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god. And he brought the vessels into his god’s treasury.
3 And the king spoke to Ashpenaz, the master of his Eunuchs, and told him to bring some of the children of Israel, some of the king’s seed, and some of the princes;
4 Children in whom there was no blemish, but were well favored; and who were instructed in all wisdom, and well-versed in knowledge; and able to utter knowledge; and such as were able to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
5 And the king appointed provisions for them every day from a portion of the king’s meat, and from the wine which he drank, thus nourishing them for three years. That at the end thereof, they might still stand before the king.
6 Now among these were some of the children of Judah - Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,
7 To whom the chief of the Eunuchs gave other names. For he called Daniel, “Belteshazzar”, and Hananiah, “Shadrach”, and Mishael, “Meshach”, and Azariah, “Abednego”.
8 But Daniel had determined in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank. Therefore he required the chief of the Eunuchs not to defile himself.
9 (Now God had brought Daniel into favor and compassion with the chief of the Eunuchs.)
10 And the chief of the Eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord, the king; who has appointed your meat and your drink. For if he sees your faces looking worse than other youths of your age, then you shall make me lose my head to the king.”
11 Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the chief of the Eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 “Please, test your servants for ten days. And let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink.
13 Then let our faces be looked upon before you, and the faces of those who eat of the portion of the king’s meat. And as you see fit, deal with your servants.”
14 So he consented to them in this matter, an watched them for ten days.
15 And at the end of ten days, their faces appeared fairer, and looked better, than all the others who ate the king’s meat.
16 Thus, Melzar took away their meat, and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.
17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge, and understanding in all learning, and wisdom. Also, he gave Daniel understanding of all visions and dreams.
18 Now when the time had come for the king to bring them in, the chief of the Eunuchs brought them before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 And the king spoke with them. And among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore, they stood before the king.
20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the enchanters and astrologers in his realm.
21 And Daniel was there until the first year of King Cyrus.
105 Praise the LORD! Call upon His Name! Declare His works among the people!
2 Sing to Him! Sing praise to Him! Talk of all His wondrous works!
3 Rejoice in His Holy Name! Let the heart of those who seek the LORD, rejoice!
4 Seek the LORD and His strength. Seek His face continually.
5 Remember His marvelous works that He has done, His wonders and the judgments of His mouth
6 you seed of Abraham His servant, you children of Jacob who are His Elect.
7 He is the LORD our God. His judgments are through all the Earth.
8 He has always remembered His Covenant promise that He made to a thousand generations
9 (which he made with Abraham) and his oath to Isaac.
10 And He has since confirmed it to Jacob for a Law, and to Israel for an everlasting Covenant,
11 saying, “To You I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance,”
12 when they were few in number (indeed, very few) and strangers in the land
13 and walked about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people.
14 Still, He allowed no man to do them wrong, but rebuked kings for their sakes, saying,
15 “Do not touch My anointed, nor do my Prophets harm.”
16 Moreover, He called a famine upon the land, and utterly broke the staff of bread.
17 But, He sent a man before them. Joseph was sold for a slave.
18 They held his feet in the stocks; and he was laid in irons
19 until his appointed time came, and the counsel of the LORD had tried him.
20 The King sent and released him. The ruler of the people delivered him.
21 He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance,
22 so that he could bind his princes to his will and teach his ancients wisdom.
23 Then Israel came to Egypt, and Jacob was a stranger in the land of Ham.
24 And He increased His people exceedingly and made them stronger than their oppressors.
25 He turned their heart to hate His people, and to deal craftily with His servants.
26 He sent Moses, His servant, and Aaron, whom He had chosen.
27 They showed the message of His signs among them and wonders in the land of Ham.
28 He sent darkness and made it dark. And they were not disobedient to His commission.
29 He turned their waters into blood and killed their fish.
30 Their land brought forth frogs, even in their king’s chambers.
31 He spoke, and there came swarms of flies and lice in all their quarters.
32 He gave them hail for rain, and flames of fire in their land.
33 He also struck their vines and their fig trees and broke down the trees on their coasts.
34 He spoke, and the grasshoppers came, and innumerable caterpillars,
35 and ate up all the grass in their land and devoured the fruit of their ground.
36 He also struck all the firstborn in their land, even the beginning of all their strength.
37 He also brought them forth with silver and gold, and there was no one feeble among their tribes.
38 Egypt was glad at their departing, for the fear of them had fallen upon them.
39 He spread a cloud to be a covering, and fire to give light in the night.
40 They asked, and He brought quails; and He filled them with the bread of Heaven.
41 He opened the rock and the water flowed out and ran like a river in the dry places.
42 For He remembered His Holy Promise to Abraham, His servant.
43 And He brought forth His people with joy and his chosen with gladness,
44 and gave them the lands of the heathen. And they took the labors of the people in possession,
45 so that they might keep His statutes and observe His Laws. Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD
