1 Kings 12

12 And Rehoboam went to Shechem. For all Israel had come to Shechem, to make him king.

And when Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, heard of it (who was still in Egypt, where Jeroboam had fled from King Solomon and dwelt in Egypt),

they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the Congregation of Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

“Your father made our yoke grievous. Now, therefore, make the grievous servitude of your father and his severe yoke which he put upon us, lighter. And we will serve you.”

And he said to them, “Depart for three days, then come back to me.” And the people departed.

And King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men who had stood before Solomon, his father, while he still lived, and said, “What counsel do you give, so that I may answer this people?”

And they spoke to him, saying, “If you are a servant to this people this day, and serve them, and answer them, and speak kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.”

But he forsook the counsel that the old men had given him, and asked counsel of the young men who had been brought up with him and waited on him.

And he said to them, “What counsel do you give, so that we may answer this people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke which your father has put upon us lighter’?”

10 Then the young men who were brought up with him, spoke to him, saying, “Thus shall you say to this people who have spoken to you, and said, ‘Your father has made our yoke heavy, but you make it lighter to us.’ Thus shall you say to them, ‘My least part shall be bigger than my father’s loins.

11 ‘Now, whereas my father burdened you with a grievous yoke, I will make your yoke heavier still. My father has chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.’”

12 Then Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, “Come back to me on the third day.”

13 And the king answered the people sharply, and left the old men’s counsel that they gave him,

14 and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke grievous, and I will make your yoke more grievous. My father has chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.”

15 And the king did not listen to the people. For it was the Ordinance of the LORD that he might perform his saying which the LORD had spoken by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam, the son of Nebat.

16 So, when all Israel saw that the king did not regard them, the people answered the king thus, saying, “What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now, see to your own House, David!” So, Israel departed to their tents.

17 However, Rehoboam still reigned over the children of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah.

18 Now, King Rehoboam sent Adoram, the receiver of the tribute. And all Israel stoned him to death. Then King Rehoboam hurried to get up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

19 And Israel rebelled against the House of David to this day.

20 And when all Israel had heard that Jeroboam had come back, they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. No one but the tribe of Judah followed the House of David.

21 And when Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he gathered all the House of Judah with the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred eighty thousand chosen men (who were good warriors) to fight against the House of Israel, and to bring the kingdom back to Rehoboam, the son of Solomon.

22 But the Word of God came to Shemaiah, the man of God, saying:

23 “Speak to Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the House of Judah and Benjamin, and the remnant of the people, saying,

24 ‘Thus says the LORD: “You shall not go up or fight against your brethren, the children of Israel. Every man return to his house. For this thing is done by Me.”’” Therefore, they obeyed the Word of the LORD and returned and departed, according to the Word of the LORD.

25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem on Mount Ephraim and dwelt in it and went from there and built Penuel.

26 And Jeroboam thought in his heart, “Now shall the kingdom return to the House of David.

27 “If this people goes up and does sacrifice in the House of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the hearts of this people turn back to their lord, to Rehoboam, king of Judah. So shall they kill me and go back to Rehoboam, king of Judah.”

28 Upon which the king took counsel and made two calves of gold, and said to them, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Behold, O Israel, your gods which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”

29 And he set one in Bethel. And the other he set in Dan.

30 And this thing turned to sin. For the people went (because of the one) as far as Dan.

31 Also, he made a house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.

32 And Jeroboam made a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the Feast that is in Judah, and offered on the altar. So he did in Bethel, and offered to the calves that he had made. And he placed the priests of the high places which he had made in Bethel.

33 And he offered upon the altar, which he had made in Bethel, on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, (in the month which he had forged of his own heart) and made a solemn feast to the children of Israel. And he went up to the altar, to burn incense.

Philippians 3

Moreover, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord! It does not trouble me to write the same things to you. And for you it is certain.

Beware of dogs. Beware of evil workers. Beware of the concision.

For we are the circumcision. We worship God in the Spirit and rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh,

though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks that he might have confidence in the flesh, more so I—

circumcised the eighth day; of the kindred of Israel; of the tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew of Hebrews; by the Law, a Pharisee.

Concerning zeal, I persecuted the Church. According to righteousness (which is in the Law), I had become blameless.

But whatever things that were gain to me, the same I have counted as loss for Christ’s sake.

Indeed, also, I count all things but loss for the sake of the surpassing knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for Whom I have counted all things loss and judge them to be garbage, so that I may gain Christ

and be found in Him—that is, not having my own righteousness (which is of the Law) but that which is through faith in Christ (the righteousness which is from God by faith) —

10 so that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering and be conformed to His death

11 (if by any means I might attain to the resurrection from the dead).

12 Not that I have already attained to it or been perfected. But I follow so that I may seize that for which I also was seized by Christ Jesus.

13 Brothers, I do not count myself as having seized it. But one thing I do: I forget that which is behind and stretch forward toward that which is ahead;

14 and follow hard toward the mark, for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Let us, therefore (as many as are mature) be thus-minded. And if you are otherwise-minded, even this God shall reveal to you.

16 Nevertheless, to that which we have already attained, let us walk by one rule and be of the same mind.

17 Brothers, be imitators of me and observe those who also walk thus (as you have us for an example).

18 For many walk of whom I have often told you (and tell you now, weeping) who are the enemies of the cross of Christ;

19 whose end is destruction; whose God is their belly; and whose glory is in their knowledge of earthly things, to their shame.

20 But our citizenship is in Heaven, from where we also look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

21 He shall transform our humiliated body into a body conformed to His Glory, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

Ezekiel 42

42 Then he brought me into the outer court by the way toward the North; and he brought me into the chamber that was opposite the separate place, and which was in front of the building toward the North.

Along the length (of a hundred cubits) was the North door, fifty cubits wide.

Opposite the twenty cubits which were for the inner court, and opposite the pavement which was for the outer court, was gallery after gallery in three stories.

And in front of the chambers was a gallery of ten cubits wide, with a one-cubit path inside. And their doors were toward the North.

Now, the chambers above were narrower. For the galleries seemed to eat up these more than the lower and those that were in the midst of the building.

For they were in three stories but did not have pillars as the pillars of the court. Therefore, there was a difference from the ground between those beneath and in the middle and those above.

And the wall that was outside, opposite the chambers, toward the outer court, on the front of the chambers, was fifty cubits long.

For the length of the chambers that were in the outer court was fifty cubits. And lo, in front of the Temple were a hundred cubits.

And under these chambers was the entry, on the East side, as one goes into them from the outer court.

10 The chambers were in the thickness of the wall of the court, toward the East, opposite the separate place, and opposite the building.

11 And the way in front of them was the same as that of the chambers which were toward the North, as long and as wide as they were. And all their entries were alike, both according to their fashions and according to their doors.

12 And according to the doors of the chambers that were toward the South, was a door in the corner of the way, the way directly in front of the wall toward the East, as one enters.

13 Then he said to me, “The North chambers and the South chambers which are before the separate place, they are holy chambers in which the Priests who approach the LORD shall eat the Most Holy things. There they shall lay the Most Holy things, and the Meat Offering, and the Sin Offering, and the Trespass Offering, for the place is holy.

14 “When the Priests enter in, they shall not go out of the Holy Place into the outer court, but they shall lay their garments there where they minister, for they are holy. And they shall put on other garments, and then shall approach those things which are for the people.”

15 Now when he had finished measuring the inner House, he brought me forth toward the gate which faced toward the East and measured it all around.

16 He measured the east side with the measuring rod, five hundred reeds with the measuring reed, all around.

17 He measured the north side, five hundred reeds with the measuring reed all around.

18 And he measured the south side, five hundred reeds with the measuring reed.

19 He turned around to the west side and measured five hundred reeds with the measuring reed.

20 He measured it on the four sides. It had a wall all around, five hundred long and five hundred wide, to make a separation between the Sanctuary and the profane place.

Psalm 94

94 O LORD God, the Avenger! O God, the Avenger, show Yourself clearly!

Exalt Yourself, O Judge of the World, and render a reward to the proud.

LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?

They babble on and speak fiercely. All the workers of iniquity boast of themselves.

They strike down Your people, O LORD, and trouble Your heritage.

They slay the widow and the stranger and murder the fatherless.

Yet they say, “The LORD shall not see; nor will the God of Jacob regard it.”

Understand, you unwise among the people and you fools. When will you be wise?

He Who planted the ear, shall He not hear? Or, He Who formed the eye, shall He not see?

10 Or, He Who chastises the nations, shall He not correct? He Who teaches man knowledge, shall He not know?

11 The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

12 Blessed is the man whom You chastise, O LORD, and teach in Your Law,

13 so that You may give him rest from the days of evil while the pit is dug for the wicked.

14 Surely, the LORD will neither fail His people nor forsake His inheritance.

15 For judgment shall return to justice; and all the upright in heart shall follow after it.

16 Who will rise up with me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

17 If the LORD had not helped me, my soul would have almost dwelt in silence.

18 When I say, “My foot slides.” Your mercy, O LORD, upholds me.

19 In the multitude of my thoughts, in my heart, Your comforts have rejoiced my soul.

20 Does the throne of iniquity, which forges wrong for a law, have fellowship with You?

21 They gather together against the soul of the righteous and condemn the innocent blood.

22 But the LORD is my refuge; and my God is the Rock of my hope.

23 And He will recompense their wickedness and destroy them in their own malice. The LORD our God shall destroy them.
