2 Samuel 14

14 Then Joab, the son of Zeruiah, perceived that the king’s heart was toward Absalom.

And Joab sent to Tekoa and brought a cunning woman there, and said to her, “Please pretend to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel. Do not anoint yourself with oil but be as a woman who has now mourned for the dead a long time.

“Go to the king and speak to him in this manner.” For Joab told her what she should say.

Then the woman of Tekoa spoke to the king, and fell down on her face to the ground, and prostrated herself, and said, “Help, O king!”

Then the king said to her, “What is wrong?” And she answered, “I am indeed a widow, and my husband is dead.

“And your handmaid had two sons. And the two struggled together in the field. And there was no one to part them. So, one struck the other and killed him.

“And behold, the whole family arose against your handmaid. And they said, ‘Deliver him who struck his brother, so that we may kill him for the soul of his brother whom he killed, so that we may also destroy the heir.’ So shall they quench my ember which is left and shall not leave to my husband either name or posterity upon the Earth.”

And the king said to the woman, “Go to your house, and I will give you a charge.”

Then the woman of Tekoa said to the king, “My lord, O king! This trespass is on me and on my father’s House. And the king and his throne are guiltless.”

10 And the king said, “Bring him to me, who speaks against you. And he shall no longer touch you.”

11 Then she said, “Please, let the king remember the LORD your God, so that you would not allow revengers of blood to destroy anymore, lest they kill my son.” And he answered, “As the LORD lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the earth.”

12 Then the woman said, “Please, let your handmaid speak a word to my lord the king.” And he said, “Speak.”

13 Then the woman said, “Why, then, have you thought such a thing against the people of God? Or does the king speak as one who is at fault, in that he will not bring back his banished?

14 “For we must die and be as water, spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet does God take away life; but He appoints means by which not to cast the expelled out from Him.

15 “Now, therefore, I have come to speak of this thing to my lord the king because the people have made me afraid. Therefore, your handmaid said, ‘I will now speak to the king. It may be that the king will perform the request of his handmaid.

16 ‘For the king will hear and deliver his handmaid (and also my son) out of the hand of the man who would destroy me from the inheritance of God.’

17 “Therefore, your handmaid said, ‘The word of my lord the king shall now be comforting. For my lord the king is as an angel of God in hearing good and bad. Therefore, the LORD your God be with you.’”

18 Then the king answered, and said to the woman, “Please do not hide from me the thing that I shall ask you.” And the woman said, “Let my lord the king now speak.”

19 And the king said, “Is not the hand of Joab with you in all this?” Then the woman answered, and said, “As your soul lives, my lord the king, I will not turn, to the right or to the left, from anything that my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab commanded me. And he put all these words in the mouth of your handmaid.

20 “For with the intent of changing appearances, your servant Joab has done this thing. But my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to understand all things that are on the Earth.”

21 And the king said to Joab, “Behold, now, I have done this thing. Go, then, and bring the young man Absalom back.”

22 And Joab fell to the ground on his face and bowed himself and thanked the king. Then Joab said, “This day your servant knows that I have found grace in your sight, my lord the king, in that the king has fulfilled the request of his servant.”

23 And Joab arose and went to Geshur and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.

24 And the king said, “Let him turn to his own house, and not see my face.” So, Absalom turned to his own house, and did not see the king’s face.

25 Now in all Israel, there was no one to be praised as much for beauty as Absalom. From the sole of his foot to the top of his head there was no blemish on him.

26 And when he shaved his head (for he shaved it at the end of every year because it was too heavy for him, therefore he shaved it), he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels by the king’s weight.

27 And Absalom had three sons and one daughter, named Tamar, who was a fair woman to look upon.

28 So, Absalom dwelt in Jerusalem for the span of two years and did not see the king’s face.

29 Therefore, Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king. But he would not come to him. And when he sent for him again, he would not come.

30 Therefore, he said to his servants, “Behold, Joab has a field by my place, and has barley in it. Go and set it on fire!” And Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.

31 Then Joab arose and came to Absalom, to his house, and said to him, “Why have your servants burnt my field with fire?”

32 And Absalom answered Joab, “Behold, I sent for you, saying, ‘Come here, and I will send you to the king to say “Why have I come from Geshur? It would have been better for me to have still been there.”’ Now, therefore, let me see the king’s face. And if there is any trespass in me, let him kill me.”

33 Then Joab came to the king and told him. And he called for Absalom, who came to the king and bowed himself to the ground on his face before the king. And the king kissed Absalom.

2 Corinthians 7

Seeing then we have these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of the flesh and spirit, and complete our sanctification in the fear of God.

Receive us. We have wronged no one. We have corrupted no one. We have defrauded no one.

I speak it not to your condemnation. For I have said before that you are in our hearts, to die and live together.

I use great boldness of speech toward you. I rejoice greatly in you. I am filled with comfort and am exceedingly joyous in all our tribulation.

For when we had come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest. But we were troubled on every side, fightings without, and terrors within.

But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us at the coming of Titus;

and only not by his coming, but also by the consolation with which he was comforted by you, when he told us your great desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me, so that I rejoiced much more.

For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent. Though, I did repent. For I perceive that the same letter made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

I now rejoice, not that you were sorry, but that you sorrowed unto repentance. For you sorrowed in a godly way, so that in nothing were you hurt by us.

10 For godly sorrow causes repentance unto salvation, not to be reconsidered. But the worldly sorrow causes death.

11 For behold, this thing of which you have been godly sorry, what great care it has wrought in you; yea, what acquittal of yourselves; yea, what indignation; yea, what fear; yea, how great desire; yea, what a zeal; yea, what vengeance. In all things, you have shown yourselves to be pure in this matter.

12 Therefore, though I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of the one who had done the wrong, nor the sake of the one who had the injury, but that our care toward you in the sight of God might appear to you.

13 Therefore we were comforted, because you were comforted. But we rejoiced even more at the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

14 For if I have boasted anything to him of you, I have not been ashamed. But as I have spoken to you all things in truth, even so our boasting to Titus was true.

15 And his inward affection is more abundant toward you when he remembers the obedience of you all, and how you received him with fear and trembling.

16 I rejoice that I may put my confidence in you in all things.

Ezekiel 21

21 The Word of the LORD came to me again, saying:

“Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, and drop your Word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel,

“and say to the land of Israel, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Behold, I come against you, and will draw My sword out of its sheath and cut off both the righteous and the wicked from you.

“Seeing then that I will cut off the righteous and wicked from you, therefore My sword shall go out of its sheath against all flesh, from the South to the North,

“so that all flesh may know that I, the LORD, have drawn My sword out of its sheath and it shall not return anymore.

“Sigh, therefore, you son of man, as in the crushing of loins, and sigh bitterly before them.

“And if they say to you, ‘Why do you sigh?’ Then answer, ‘Because of the news. For it comes, and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be weak, and all minds shall faint, and all knees shall fall away, as water. Behold, it comes and shall be done,’ says the Lord GOD.”

Again, the Word of the LORD came to me, saying:

“Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD.’ Say, “A sword, a sword, both sharp and polished.

10 “It is sharpened to make a great slaughter. It is polished so that it may glisten. How shall we rejoice? It despises the rod of My son, as all other trees.

11 “And it has been given to be polished, so that it may be handled. This sword is sharp, and is polished, so that it may be given into the hand of the slayer.

12 “Cry and howl, son of man! For this shall come to My people. It shall come to all the princes of Israel. The terrors of the sword shall be upon My people. Strike, therefore, upon your thigh.

13 “For it is a trial. And what shall this be if the sword despises even the rod? It shall be no more,” says the Lord GOD.

14 “You, therefore, son of man, prophesy and strike your hands together, and let the sword be doubled. Let the sword, which has killed, return a third time. It is the sword of the great slaughter, entering into their private chambers.

15 “I have brought the fear of the sword into all their gates, to make their heart faint, and to multiply their ruins. Ah, it is made bright! It is dressed for a slaughter.

16 Sharpen yourselves in the same direction! Go to the right or to the left, wherever your face is turned.

17 I will also strike My Hands together and cause My wrath to cease. I, the LORD, have said it.”

18 The Word of the LORD came to me again, saying:

19 “Also, you son of man, appoint yourself two ways for the sword of the king of Babel to come. Both of them shall come out of the same land. And make a map at the head of the way of the city,

20 “so that the sword may come to Rabbah of the Ammonites, and to Judah in Jerusalem the strong.”

21 And the king of Babel stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, consulting by divination, and made his arrows swift. He consulted with idols and looked at the liver.

22 At his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem, to appoint captains to open their mouths in the slaughter, and to lift up their voices with shouting, to lay engines of war against the gates, to cast a siege mound, and to build a fortress.

23 And it shall be to them as a false divination in their sight, for the oaths made to them. But he will call their iniquity to remembrance, to the intent that they would be taken.

24 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Because you have made your iniquity be remembered in discovering your rebellion, so that in all your works your sins might appear, because you have come to remembrance, you shall be taken with the hand.

25 “And you, prince of Israel, polluted, wicked, whose day has come in the iniquity of the end,

26 “thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Take away the turban and take off the crown. This shall no longer be the same. I will exalt the humble and will abase him who is high.

27 “I will overturn, overturn, overturn it! And it shall no longer be until He comes Whose right it is. And I will give it Him.’

28 “And you, son of man, prophesy, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD to the children of Ammon and to their blasphemy:’ and say, “The sword! The sword is drawn forth, polished for the slaughter, to consume, because of the lightning,

29 “while they saw empty visions for you, and prophesied a lie to you, to bring you upon the necks of the wicked who are slain, whose day has come in the iniquity of the end.

30 “Shall I cause it to return into its sheath? I will judge you in the place where you were created, in the land of your habitation.

31 “And I will pour out My indignation upon you and will blow against you in the fire of My wrath, and deliver you into the hand of beastly men, skillful to destroy.

32 “You shall be in the fire, to be devoured. Your blood shall be in the midst of the land. You shall be remembered no more.” For I, the LORD, have spoken it.’”

Psalm 68

68 God will arise. His enemies shall be scattered. Also, those who hate Him shall flee before Him.

As the smoke vanishes, so shall You drive them away. As wax melts before the fire, so shall the wicked perish at the presence of God.

But the righteous shall be glad and rejoice before God. Indeed, they shall leap for joy.

Sing to God! Sing praises to His Name! Exalt Him Who rides upon the heavens (by his Name, YAH) and rejoice before him!

He is a Father of the fatherless and a Judge of the widows: God in His Holy Habitation.

God makes the solitary dwell in families and delivers those who were held captive. But the rebellious shall dwell in a parched land.

O God, when You went forth before Your people, when You went through the wilderness (Selah),

the Earth shook, and the heavens dropped at the presence of this God. Sinai was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

You, O God, sent a gracious rain upon Your inheritance; and You refreshed it when it was weary.

10 Your Congregation dwelled therein. You, O God, have, by Your goodness, prepared it for the poor.

11 The LORD commanded: the women shall tell of the great army.

12 Kings of the armies fled. They fled, and she who remained in the house divided the spoil.

13 Though you have lain among pots, you shall be as the wings of a dove that are covered with silver, and whose feathers are like yellow gold.

14 When the Almighty scattered kings in it, it was white as the snow in Zalmon.

15 The Mountain of God is like the mountain of Bashan. It is a high mountain, as mount Bashan.

16 Why do you leap, you high mountains? As for this Mountain, God delights to dwell in it. Indeed, the LORD will dwell in it forever.

17 The chariots of God are twenty thousand thousand angels. The LORD is among them, as in the Sanctuary of Sinai.

18 You have gone up on high. You have led captives into captivity and received gifts for men. Indeed, even the rebellious You have led, so that the LORD God might dwell there.

19 Praised be the LORD, the God of our salvation, Who daily bears our burden. Selah.

20 This is our God, the God Who saves; and to the LORD God belongs the escapes from death.

21 Surely God will wound the head of His enemies, and the hairy scalp of him who walks in his sins.

22 The LORD has said, “I will bring My people again from Bashan. I will bring them again from the depths of the sea,

23 “so that your foot may be dipped in blood and the tongue of your dogs in the blood of your enemies; yes, your enemies.”

24 They have seen, O God, Your goings; the goings of my God and my King, Who is in the Sanctuary.

25 The singers went before, the players of instruments after. In the midst, the maids were playing with timbrels.

26 Praise God in the assemblies, and the LORD, you who are of the fountain of Israel!

27 There was little Benjamin with their ruler, the princes of Judah with their assembly, the princes of Zebulun, and the princes of Naphtali.

28 Your GOD has appointed your strength. Establish, O God, that which You first wrought in us.

29 Out of Your Temple upon Jerusalem, kings shall bring presents to You.

30 Destroy the company of the spearmen who tread pieces of silver under foot, along with the multitude of the mighty bulls and the calves of the people. Scatter the people who delight in war.

31 Then shall the princes come out of Egypt. Ethiopia shall hasten to stretch her hands to God.

32 Sing to God, O you kingdoms of the Earth! Sing praise to the LORD (Selah),

33 to him who rides upon the Most High Heavens, Who was from the beginning. Behold, He will send out, by His voice, a mighty sound!

34 Ascribe the power to God! His majesty is upon Israel and His strength is in the clouds!

35 O God, You are awesome out of Your Holy places! The God of Israel is He Who gives strength and power to the people! Praise God! To him who excels upon Shoshannim: A Psalm of David
