2 Samuel 12

12 Then the LORD sent Nathan to David, who came to him and said to him, “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor.

“The rich man had exceedingly many sheep and oxen.

“But the poor had none at all, except one little sheep which he had bought and nourished. And it grew up with him and with his children also, and ate of his own morsels and drank of his own cup and slept in his bosom and was to him as his daughter.

“Now a stranger came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own sheep and from his own oxen to prepare for the stranger who had come to him. But he took the poor man’s sheep and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”

Then David was exceedingly angry with the man, and said to Nathan, “As the LORD lives, the man who has done this thing shall surely die!

“And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing and had no pity!”

Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man. Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and delivered you out of the hand of Saul,

‘and gave you your lord’s house, and your lord’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah, and would moreover (if that had been too little) have given you such and such things.

‘Why have you despised the Commandment of the LORD, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

10 ‘Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’

11 “Thus said the LORD: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor. And he shall lie with your wives in the sight of his sin.

12 ‘For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the Sun.’”

13 Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” And Nathan said to David, “The LORD has also put away your sin. You shall not die.

14 “However, because, by this deed, you have caused the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child who is born to you shall surely die.”

15 So Nathan departed to his house. And the LORD struck the child whom Uriah’s wife bore to David. And it was sick.

16 David, therefore, sought God for the child and fasted and went in and lay all night upon the earth.

17 Then the elders of his house arose to come to him, and to cause him to rise from the ground. But he would not. Nor did he eat food with them.

18 So, on the seventh day, the child died. And the servants of David were afraid to tell him that the child was dead. For they said, “Behold, while the child was alive, we spoke to him. And he would not listen to our voice. How, then, shall we say to him, ‘The child is dead,’ and upset him more?”

19 But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead. Therefore, David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” And they said, “He is dead.”

20 Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his apparel and came into the House of the LORD and worshipped. And afterward, he came to his own house and requested that they set bread before him. And he ate.

21 Then his servants said to him, “What thing is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while it was alive. But when the child was dead, you rose up and ate food.”

22 And he said, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. For I said, ‘Who can tell whether God will have mercy on me, so that the child may live?’

23 “But now, being dead, why should I now fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”

24 And David comforted Bathsheba, his wife, and went into her, and lay with her. And she bore a son. And he called his name, Solomon. Also, the LORD loved him.

25 For He had sent Word by Nathan the Prophet. Therefore, he called his name, Jedidiah, because of the LORD.

26 Then Joab fought against Rabbah, of the children of Ammon, and took the city of the kingdom.

27 Therefore, Joab sent messengers to David, saying, “I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.

28 “Now, therefore, gather the rest of the people together and besiege the city, so that you may take it, lest the victory be attributed to me.”

29 So, David gathered all the people together and went against Rabbah and besieged it and took it.

30 And he took their king’s crown from his head (which weighed a talent of gold, with precious stones). And it was set on David’s head. And he brought away the spoil of the city in exceedingly great abundance.

31 And he carried away the people who were there, and put them under saws, and under iron hoes, and under axes of iron, and cast them into the brick kiln. He did thus with all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

2 Corinthians 5

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle is destroyed, we have a building given by God; that is, a house, made not with hands, but eternal, in the heavens.

For therefore we sigh, desiring to be clothed with our house, which is from Heaven.

Because if we are clothed, we shall not be found naked.

For indeed, we who are in this tabernacle sigh and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but clothed; so that mortality might be swallowed up in life.

And He Who has created us for this thing, is God; Who also has given us the earnest portion of the Spirit.

Therefore we are always bold; although we know that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.

For we walk by faith, and not by sight.

Nevertheless, we are bold, and are well-pleased rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.

Therefore also, we desire eagerly, whether present or absent, to be acceptable to Him.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that everyone may receive the things done through the body, according to what he has done, whether good or evil.

11 Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade man and are made manifest to God. And I trust also that we are made manifest in your consciences.

12 For we do not commend ourselves to you again but give you an occasion to exult on our behalf, so that you may have an answer toward those who rejoice in appearance, and not in the heart.

13 For if we are out of our wits, we are so to God: or if we are in our right minds, we are so to you.

14 For the love of Christ constrains us,

15 because we thus judge: that if One is dead for all, then were all dead. And He died for all, so that those who live, should henceforth no longer live for themselves, but for Him Who died for them and rose again.

16 Therefore, henceforth we consider no one according to the flesh. Yea, even though we had known Christ according to the flesh, we do so no more.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

18 And all things are of God, Who has reconciled us unto Himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation.

19 For God was in Christ, and reconciled the world to Himself, not imputing their sins unto them; and has committed the Word of reconciliation to us.

20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God is exhorting you through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God!

21 For He has made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we should be made the righteousness of God in Him.

Ezekiel 19

19 “Also, take up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,

“and say, ‘Why did your mother, a lioness, lay down among the lions? She nourished her young ones among the lion’s whelps.

‘And she brought up one of her whelps, and it became a lion. It learned to catch the prey, and it devoured men.

‘The nations also heard of him. He was taken in their nets, and they brought him to the land of Egypt in chains.

‘Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, she took another of her whelps and made him a lion.

‘which went among the lions, and became a lion, and learned to catch prey. He devoured men,

‘and he knew their widows, and he destroyed their cities, and the land was wasted, and all that was in it, by the noise of his roaring.

‘Then the nations set against him on every side of the countries and laid their nets for him. So, he was taken in their pit.

‘And they put him in prison, in chains, and brought him to the king of Babel. They put him in a stronghold, so that his voice would no longer be heard upon the mountains of Israel.

10 ‘Your mother is like a vine in your blood, planted by the waters. She brought forth fruit and branches by the abundant waters,

11 ‘and she had strong rods for the scepters of those who bear rule. And her stature was exalted among the branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches.

12 ‘But she was plucked up in wrath. She was cast down to the ground, and the East wind dried up her fruit. Her branches were broken and withered. The fire consumed the rod of her strength.

13 ‘And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground.

14 ‘And fire has gone out of a rod of her branches, which has devoured her fruit, so that she has no strong rod, no ruling scepter.’” This is a lamentation and shall be a lamentation.

Psalm 64-65

64 Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer. Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the rage of the works of iniquity

which have whet their tongue like a sword and shot bitter words for their arrows,

to shoot at the upright in secret. They shoot at him suddenly and do not fear.

They encourage themselves in a wicked purpose. They commune together to lay snares privately, saying, “Who shall see them?”

They have sought out iniquities and have accomplished that which they sought. Everyone’s inward thoughts and depth of heart are both deep.

But God will shoot an arrow at them suddenly. Their strokes shall be sudden.

They shall cause them to fall upon their own tongue. Whoever shall see them shall flee away.

And all men shall see it and declare the work of God; and they shall understand what He has wrought.

10 But the righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and trust in Him; and all who are upright in heart shall rejoice. To him who excels: A psalm or song of David

65 O God, praise waits for You in Zion; and to You shall the vow be performed.

O, You Who hear prayer, to You shall all flesh come!

Wicked deeds have prevailed against me. But You will be merciful to our transgressions.

Blessed is he whom You choose and cause to come. He shall dwell in Your courts. We shall be satisfied with the pleasures of Your House, and of Your Holy Temple.

O God of our salvation, You will answer us with fearful signs in Your righteousness. You are the hope of all the ends of the Earth, and of those who are far off in the sea.

He establishes the mountains by His power, being clothed with strength.

He appeases the noise of the seas, and the noise of the waves thereof, and the tumults of the people.

Also, those who dwell in the uttermost parts shall be afraid of Your signs. You shall make the outgoings of the morning and the evening rejoice.

You visit the Earth and water it. You make it very rich. The river of God is full of water. You prepare their grain, for so You have appointed it.

10 You water the furrows thereof abundantly. You cause the rain to descend into the valleys thereof. You make it soft with showers and bless the bud thereof.

11 You crown the year with Your goodness; and Your steps drop fatness.

12 They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness; and the hills shall be surrounded with gladness.

13 The pastures are clad with sheep. The valleys, also, shall be covered with grain. They shout for joy and sing. To him who excels: A song or psalm
