Deuteronomy 25

Various Laws

25 This is what you must do whenever two people have a disagreement that is brought into court. The judges will hear the case and decide who’s right and who’s wrong. If the person who’s in the wrong deserves to be beaten, the judge will order him to lie down. Then the judge will have him beaten with as many lashes as the crime deserves. Forty lashes may be given, but no more. If an Israelite were given more than that, he would be publicly humiliated.

Never muzzle an ox when it’s threshing[a] grain.

When brothers live together and one of them dies without having a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother must marry her and sleep with her. He must do his duty as her brother-in-law. Then the first son she has will carry the dead brother’s name so that his name won’t die out in Israel.

But if the man doesn’t want to marry his brother’s widow, she must go to the leaders of the city at the city gate. She must say, “My brother-in-law refuses to let his brother’s name continue in Israel. He doesn’t want to do his duty as my brother-in-law.” Then the leaders of the city must summon him and talk to him. If he persists in saying that he doesn’t want to marry her, his brother’s widow must go up to him in the presence of the leaders. She must take off one of his sandals and spit in his face. She must make this formal statement: “This is what happens to a man who refuses to continue his brother’s family line.” 10 Then in Israel his family will be called the Family of the Man Without a Sandal.

11 This is what you must do when two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from the man who is beating him. If she tries to stop the fight by grabbing the other man’s genitals, 12 cut off her hand. Have no pity on her.

13 Never carry two sets of weights, a heavier one and a lighter one. 14 Never have two kinds of measures in your house, a larger one and a smaller one. 15 Use accurate and honest weights and measures. Then you will live for a long time in the land that Yahweh your Elohim is giving you. 16 Everyone who uses dishonest weights and measures is disgusting to Yahweh your Elohim.

17 Remember what the Amalekites did to you on your trip from Egypt. 18 They attacked you when you were tired and exhausted and killed all those who were lagging behind. They weren’t afraid of Elohim. 19 So when Yahweh your Elohim gives you peace from all your enemies around you in the land that he is giving you as your own property, don’t forget to erase every memory of the Amalekites from the earth.

Psalm 116

Psalm 116

I love Yahweh because he hears my voice, my pleas for mercy.
I will call on him as long as I live
because he turns his ear toward me.
The ropes of death became tangled around me.
The horrors of the grave took hold of me.
        I experienced pain and agony.
But I kept calling on the name of Yahweh:
    “Please, Yahweh, rescue me!”

Yahweh is merciful and righteous.
    Our Elohim is compassionate.
Yahweh protects defenseless people.
When I was weak, he saved me.
Be at peace again, my soul,
because Yahweh has been good to you.

You saved me from death.
You saved my eyes from tears and my feet from stumbling.
I will walk in Yahweh’s presence in this world of the living.
10 I kept my faith even when I said,
    “I am suffering terribly.”
11 I also said when I was panic-stricken,
    “Everyone is undependable.”
12 How can I repay Yahweh
for all the good that he has done for me?
13 I will take the cup of salvation
and call on the name of Yahweh.
14 I will keep my vows to Yahweh
in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of Yahweh
is the death of his faithful ones.
16 O Yahweh, I am indeed your servant.
    I am your servant,
the son of your female servant.
You have freed me from my chains.
17 I will bring a song of thanksgiving to you as a sacrifice.
I will call on the name of Yahweh.
18 I will keep my vows to Yahweh
in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courtyards of Yahweh’s house,
    in the middle of Jerusalem.

Hallelujah!

Isaiah 52

Wake Up, Zion

52 Wake up! Wake up! Clothe yourself with strength, Zion!
Put on your beautiful clothes, holy city of Jerusalem.
Godless and evil people will no longer come to you.
Shake the dust from yourselves.
    Get up, captive Jerusalem.
Free yourself from the chains around your neck, captive people of Zion.

This is what Yahweh says: You were sold, but no price was paid. You will be bought back, but without money.

This is what Adonay Yahweh says: In the beginning my people went to Egypt to live there as foreigners. Later the Assyrians oppressed them for no reason. So what do I find here? asks Yahweh. My people are taken away for no reason. Their rulers are screaming, declares Yahweh. And my name is cursed all day long. Now my people will know my name. When that day comes, they will know that I am the one who says, “Here I am!”

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger
who announces the good news, “All is well.”
        He brings the good news,
            announces salvation,
and tells Zion that its Elohim rules as king.
Listen! Your watchmen raise their voices
    and shout together joyfully.
        When Yahweh brings Zion back,
they will see it with their own eyes.
Break out into shouts of joy, ruins of Jerusalem.
    Yahweh will comfort his people.
        He will reclaim Jerusalem.
10 Yahweh will show his holy power to all the nations.
All the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our Elohim.

11 Run away! Run away!
    Get away from there!
    Do not touch anything unclean.[a]
    Get away from it!
    Make yourselves pure,
you Levites who carry the utensils for Yahweh’s temple.

12 You will not go away in a hurry,
nor will you go away quickly.
Yahweh will go ahead of you.
The Elohim of Israel will guard you from behind.

The Suffering Servant

13 My servant will be successful.
He will be respected, praised, and highly honored.
14 Many will be shocked by him.[b]
His appearance will be so disfigured
that he won’t look like any other man.
His looks will be so disfigured
that he will hardly look like a human.
15 He will cleanse many nations with his blood.
Kings will shut their mouths because of him.
They will see things that they had never been told.
They will understand things that they had never heard.

Revelation 22

22 The angel showed me a river filled with the water of life, as clear as crystal. It was flowing from the throne of God and the lamb. Between the street of the city and the river there was a tree of life visible from both sides. It produced 12 kinds of fruit. Each month had its own fruit. The leaves of the tree will heal the nations. There will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and the lamb will be in the city. His servants will worship him and see his face. His name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night, and they will not need any light from lamps or the sun because the Lord God will shine on them. They will rule as kings forever and ever.

Jesus Says: I’m Coming Soon

He said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord God of the spirits of the prophets has sent his angel to show his servants the things that must happen soon. I’m coming soon! Blessed is the one who follows the words of the prophecy in this book.”

I, John, heard and saw these things. When I had heard and seen them, I bowed to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing me these things. He told me, “Don’t do that! I am your coworker. I work with other Christians, the prophets, and those who follow the words in this book. Worship God!”

10 Then the angel said to me, “Don’t seal up the words of the prophecy in this book because the time is near. 11 Let those who don’t have God’s approval go without it, and let filthy people continue to be filthy. Let those who have God’s approval continue to have it, and let holy people continue to be holy.”

12 “I’m coming soon! I will bring my reward with me to pay all people based on what they have done. 13 I am the A and the Z,[a] the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are dogs, sorcerers, sexual sinners, murderers, idolaters, and all who lie in what they say and what they do.

16 “I, Yeshua, have sent my angel to give this testimony to you for the churches. I am the root and descendant of David. I am the bright morning star.”

17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let those who hear this say, “Come!” Let those who are thirsty come! Let those who want the water of life take it as a gift.

18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy in this book: If anyone adds anything to this, God will strike him with the plagues that are written in this book. 19 If anyone takes away any words from this book of prophecy, God will take away his portion of the tree of life and the holy city that are described in this book.

20 The one who is testifying to these things says, “Yes, I’m coming soon!”

Amen! Come, Lord Yeshua!

21 The good will[b] of the Lord Yeshua be with all of you. Amen!
