Elijah Predicts Drought

17 Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of ^[a](A)the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “^(B)As the Lord, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, surely ^(C)there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.” ² The word of the Lord came to him, saying, ³ “Go away from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is ^[b]east of the Jordan. ⁴ It shall be that you will drink of the brook, and ^(D)I have commanded the ravens to provide for you there.” ⁵ So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and lived by the brook Cherith, which is ^[c]east of the Jordan. ⁶ The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he would drink from the brook. ⁷ It happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

⁸ Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, ⁹ “Arise, go to ^(E)Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there; behold, ^(F)I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” ¹⁰ So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and ^(G)he called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a ^[d]jar, that I may drink.” ¹¹ As she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand.” ¹² But she said, “^(H)As the Lord your God lives, ^(I)I have no ^[e]bread, only a handful of flour in the ^[f]bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering ^[g]a few sticks that I may go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat it and ^(J)die.” ¹³ Then Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go, do as you have said, but make me a little bread cake from ^[h]it first and bring it out to me, and afterward you may make one for yourself and for your son. ¹⁴ For thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘The ^[i]bowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oil ^[j]be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain on the face of the earth.’” ¹⁵ So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for many days. ¹⁶ The ^[k]bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil ^[l]become empty, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke through Elijah.

Elijah Raises the Widow’s Son

¹⁷ Now it came about after these things that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became sick; and his sickness was so severe that there was no breath left in him. ¹⁸ So she said to Elijah, “^(K)What do I have to do with you, O ^(L)man of God? ^[m]You have come to me to bring my iniquity to remembrance and to put my son to death!” ¹⁹ He said to her, “Give me your son.” Then he took him from her bosom and carried him up to the upper room where he was living, and laid him on his own bed. ²⁰ He called to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, have You also brought calamity to the widow with whom I am ^[n]staying, by causing her son to die?” ^21 (M)Then he stretched himself upon the child three times, and called to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, I pray You, let this child’s life return ^[o]to him.” ²² The Lord heard the voice of Elijah, ^(N)and the life of the child returned ^[p]to him and he revived. ²³ Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house and gave him to his mother; and Elijah said, “See, your son is alive.” ²⁴ Then the woman said to Elijah, “^(O)Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth.”

Fellow Workers

4 Masters, grant to your slaves justice and fairness, ^(A)knowing that you too have a Master in heaven.

^2 (B)Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; ³ praying at the same time ^(C)for us as well, that God will open up to us a ^(D)door for ^(E)the word, so that we may speak forth ^(F)the mystery of Christ, for which I have also ^(G)been imprisoned; ⁴ that I may make it clear ^(H)in the way I ought to speak.

^7 (O)As to all my affairs, ^(P)Tychicus, our ^(Q)beloved brother and faithful servant and fellow bond-servant in the Lord, will bring you information. ^8 (R)For I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know about our circumstances and that he may ^(S)encourage your hearts; ^9 [d]and with him ^(T)Onesimus, our faithful and ^(U)beloved brother, ^(V)who is one of your number. They will inform you about the whole situation here.

^10 (W)Aristarchus, my ^(X)fellow prisoner, sends you his greetings; and also ^(Y)Barnabas’s cousin Mark (about whom you received ^[e]instructions; ^(Z)if he comes to you, welcome him); ¹¹ and also Jesus who is called Justus; these are the only ^(AA)fellow workers for the kingdom of God ^(AB)who are from the circumcision, and they have proved to be an encouragement to me. ^12 (AC)Epaphras, ^(AD)who is one of your number, a bondslave of Jesus Christ, sends you his greetings, always ^(AE)laboring earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may ^[f]stand ^[g](AF)perfect and ^[h]fully assured in all the will of God. ¹³ For I testify for him that he has ^[i]a deep concern for you and for those who are in ^(AG)Laodicea and Hierapolis. ^14 (AH)Luke, the beloved physician, sends you his greetings, and also ^(AI)Demas. ¹⁵ Greet the brethren who are in ^(AJ)Laodicea and also ^[j]Nympha and ^(AK)the church that is in ^[k]her house. ^16 (AL)When ^[l]this letter is read among you, have it also read in the church of the Laodiceans; and you, for your part ^(AM)read ^[m]my letter that is coming from ^(AN)Laodicea. ¹⁷ Say to ^(AO)Archippus, “Take heed to the ^(AP)ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may ^[n]fulfill it.”

^18 [o]I, Paul, ^(AQ)write this greeting with my own hand. ^(AR)Remember my ^[p](AS)imprisonment. ^(AT)Grace be with you.

Water from the Temple

47 Then he brought me back to the ^(A)door of the house; and behold, ^(B)water was flowing from under the threshold of the house toward the east, for the house faced east. And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar. ² He brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around ^[a]on the outside to the outer gate by way of the gate that faces east. And behold, water was trickling from the south side.

³ When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water reaching the ankles. ⁴ Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the knees. Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the loins. ⁵ Again he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not ford, for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a ^(C)river that could not be forded. ⁶ He said to me, “Son of man, have you ^(D)seen this?” Then he brought me ^[b]back to the bank of the river. ⁷ Now when I had returned, behold, on the bank of the river there were very many ^(E)trees on the one side and on the other. ⁸ Then he said to me, “These waters go out toward the eastern region and go down into the ^(F)Arabah; then they go toward the sea, being made to flow into the ^(G)sea, and the waters of the sea become ^[c]fresh. ⁹ It will come about that every living creature which swarms in every place where the ^[d]river goes, will live. And there will be very many fish, for these waters go there and the others ^[e]become fresh; so ^(H)everything will live where the river goes. ¹⁰ And it will come about that ^(I)fishermen will stand beside it; from ^(J)Engedi to Eneglaim there will be a place for the ^(K)spreading of nets. Their fish will be according to their kinds, like the fish of the ^(L)Great Sea, ^(M)very many. ¹¹ But its swamps and marshes will not become ^[f]fresh; they will be ^[g]left for ^(N)salt. ^12 (O)By the river on its bank, on one side and on the other, will grow all kinds of ^(P)trees for food. Their ^(Q)leaves will not wither and their fruit will not fail. They will bear every month because their water flows from the sanctuary, and their fruit will be for food and their ^(R)leaves for healing.”

Boundaries and Division of the Land

¹³ Thus says the Lord ^[h]God, “This shall be the ^(S)boundary by which you shall divide the land for an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel; Joseph shall have two ^(T)portions. ¹⁴ You shall divide it for an inheritance, each one ^[i]equally with the other; for I ^[j](U)swore to give it to your forefathers, and this land shall fall to you ^[k]as an inheritance.

¹⁵ “This shall be the boundary of the land: on the ^(V)north side, from the Great Sea by the way of Hethlon, to the entrance of ^[l](W)Zedad; ^16 [m](X)Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of ^(Y)Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazer-hatticon, which is by the border of Hauran. ¹⁷ The boundary shall ^[n]extend from the sea to ^(Z)Hazar-enan at the border of Damascus, and on the north toward the north is the border of Hamath. This is the north side.

¹⁸ “The ^(AA)east side, from between Hauran, Damascus, ^(AB)Gilead and the land of Israel, shall be the ^(AC)Jordan; from the north border to the eastern sea you shall measure. This is the east side.

¹⁹ “The ^(AD)south side toward the south shall extend from ^(AE)Tamar as far as the waters of ^(AF)Meribath-kadesh, to the ^(AG)brook of Egypt and to the ^(AH)Great Sea. This is the south side toward the south.

²⁰ “The ^(AI)west side shall be the Great Sea, from the south border to a point opposite ^[o](AJ)Lebo-hamath. This is the west side.

²¹ “So you shall divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel. ²² You shall divide it by ^(AK)lot for an inheritance among yourselves and among the ^(AL)aliens who stay in your midst, who bring forth sons in your midst. And they shall be to you as the native-born among the sons of Israel; they shall be allotted an ^(AM)inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel. ²³ And in the tribe with which the alien stays, there you shall give him his inheritance,” declares the Lord God.
