2 Kings 3

Moab Rebels Against Israel

Now Jehoram the son of Ahab became king over Israel at Samaria (A)in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years. And he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, though not like his father and his mother; and (B)he took away the sacred pillar of Baal (C)which his father had made. Nevertheless, (D)he clung to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, (E)which he made Israel sin; he did not turn away from them.

Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder and (F)used to pay the king of Israel 100,000 lambs and the wool of 100,000 rams. But it happened that (G)when Ahab died, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel. And King Jehoram went out of Samaria [a]at that time and mustered all Israel. Then he went and sent word to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?” And he said, “I will go up; (H)I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.” And he said, “Which way shall we go up?” And he [b]answered, “The way of the wilderness of Edom.”

So (I)the king of Israel went with (J)the king of Judah and (K)the king of Edom; and they went around on a seven days’ journey, and there was no water for the camp or for the cattle that [c]followed them. 10 Then the king of Israel said, “Alas! For Yahweh has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.” 11 But Jehoshaphat said, “(L)Is there not a prophet of Yahweh here, that we may inquire of Yahweh by him?” And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, “(M)Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, (N)who used to pour water on the hands of Elijah.” 12 And Jehoshaphat said, “The word of Yahweh is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

13 Now Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What do I have to do with you? (O)Go to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother.” And the king of Israel said to him, “No, for Yahweh has called these three kings together to give them into the hand of Moab.” 14 And Elisha said, “(P)As Yahweh of hosts lives, before whom I stand, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look at you nor see you. 15 So now (Q)bring me a musician.” And it came about, when the musician played, that (R)the hand of Yahweh came upon him. 16 And he said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’ 17 For thus says Yahweh, ‘You shall not see wind nor shall you see rain; yet that valley (S)shall be filled with water, so that you shall drink, both you and your livestock and your cattle. 18 And this is but a (T)light thing in the sight of Yahweh; He will also give the Moabites into your hand. 19 (U)Then you shall strike every fortified city and every choice city, and fell every good tree and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.’” 20 Then it happened in the morning (V)about the time of offering the sacrifice, that behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

21 Now all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them. And they summoned all who were able to [d]put on armor and older, and they stood on the border. 22 Then they rose early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water opposite them as red as blood. 23 Then they said, “This is blood; the kings have surely fought together, and they have struck down one another. So now, Moab, to the spoil!” 24 So they came to the camp of Israel. And the Israelites arose and struck the Moabites. So they fled before them; and they went forward [e]into the land, striking down the Moabites. 25 (W)Thus they [f]tore down the cities; and each one threw a stone on every piece of good land and filled it. And they stopped all the springs of water and felled all the good trees, until in (X)Kir-hareseth they let its stones remain; however, the slingers went about it and struck it. 26 Then the king of Moab saw that the battle was too strong for him, so he took with him 700 men who drew swords, to break through to the king of Edom; but they could not. 27 So he took his oldest son, who was to reign in his place, and (Y)offered him as a burnt offering on the wall. And there came great wrath against Israel, and they set out from him and returned to their own land.

2 Thessalonians 3

Disobedient Brothers

(A)Finally, brothers, (B)pray for us that (C)the word of the Lord will [a]spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you; and that we will be (D)rescued from [b]perverse and evil men, for not all have [c]faith. But (E)the Lord is faithful, who will strengthen and guard you [d]from (F)the evil one. And we have (G)confidence in the Lord about you, that you (H)are doing and will continue to do what we command. And may the Lord (I)direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.

Now we command you, brothers, (J)in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you [e](K)keep away from every brother who walks in an [f](L)unruly manner and not according to (M)the tradition which [g]they received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to (N)imitate us, because we did not act in an unruly manner among you, nor did we (O)eat [h]anyone’s bread [i]without paying for it, but with (P)labor and hardship we kept (Q)working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you; not because we do not have (R)the authority, but in order to offer ourselves (S)as a model for you, so that you would imitate us. 10 For even (T)when we were with you, we used to command this to you: (U)if anyone is not willing to work, neither let him eat. 11 For we hear that some among you are (V)walking in an unruly manner, doing no work at all, but acting like (W)busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and (X)exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that (Y)working with quietness, they eat their own bread. 13 But as for you, (Z)brothers, (AA)do not lose heart in doing good.

14 And if anyone does not obey our word [j](AB)in this letter, take special note of that person (AC)to not associate with him, so that he will be (AD)put to shame. 15 And yet (AE)do not regard him as an enemy, but [k](AF)admonish him as a (AG)brother.

16 Now (AH)may the Lord of peace (AI)Himself continually give you peace in every [l]circumstance. (AJ)The Lord be with you all!

17 The greeting (AK)is in my own hand—[m]Paul, which is a distinguishing mark in every letter; this is the way I write. 18 (AL)The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Daniel 7

The Vision of the Four Beasts

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel saw a (A)dream and visions in his head as he lay on his bed; then he (B)wrote the dream down and said the [a]following summary of the matter. Daniel answered and said, “I was (C)looking in my vision by night, and behold, the (D)four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea. And four great (E)beasts were coming up from the sea, different from one another. The first was (F)like a lion and had the wings of an eagle. I kept looking until its wings were plucked, and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a man; and a heart of a man was given to it. And behold, another beast, a second one in the likeness of a bear. And it was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth; and thus they said to it, ‘Arise, devour much meat!’ After this I kept looking, and behold, another one, (G)like a leopard, which had on its [b]back four wings of a bird; the beast also had (H)four heads, and [c]dominion was given to it. After this I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, a (I)fourth beast, fearsome and terrifying and extraordinarily strong; and it had large iron teeth. It devoured and crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had (J)ten horns. While I was contemplating the horns, behold, (K)another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, [d]this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and (L)a mouth speaking great boasts.

The Ancient of Days

“I kept looking
Until (M)thrones were set up,
And the Ancient of Days was seated;
His (N)clothing was like white snow
And the (O)hair of His head like pure wool.
His (P)throne was [e]ablaze with fire,
Its (Q)wheels were a burning fire.
10 A river of (R)fire was flowing
And coming out from before Him;
(S)Thousands upon thousands were attending Him,
And myriads upon myriads were standing before Him;
The (T)court sat,
And (U)the books were opened.

11 Then I kept looking because of the sound of the great boastful words which the horn was speaking; I kept looking until the beast was killed, and its body was destroyed and given to the (V)burning [f]fire. 12 As for the rest of the beasts, their [g]dominion was taken away, but an extension of life was given to them for an appointed season of time.

The Son of Man

13 “I kept looking in the night visions,
And behold, with the clouds of heaven
One like a (W)Son of Man was coming,
And He came up to the Ancient of Days
And came near before Him.
14 And to Him was given [h](X)dominion,
Glory, and (Y)a kingdom,
(Z)That all the peoples, nations, and men of every tongue
Might serve Him.
(AA)His [i]dominion is an everlasting [j]dominion
Which will not be taken away;
(AB)And His kingdom is one
Which will not be destroyed.

The Vision Interpreted

15 “As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed [k]within me, and the (AC)visions of my head kept (AD)alarming me. 16 I came near to one of those who were (AE)standing by and began seeking out from him the [l]exact meaning of all this. So he (AF)said it to me and made known to me the interpretation of these things: 17 ‘These great beasts, which are four in number, are four kings who will arise from the earth. 18 But the [m](AG)saints of the Highest One will (AH)receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, [n]for all ages to come.’

19 “Then I desired to know the [o]exact meaning of the (AI)fourth beast, which was different from all [p]the others, extraordinarily fearsome, with its teeth of iron and its claws of bronze, and which devoured, crushed, and trampled down the remainder with its feet, 20 and the meaning of the ten horns that were on its head and the other horn which came up and before which three of them fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth speaking great boasts and [q]which was larger in appearance than its associates. 21 I kept looking, and that horn was (AJ)waging war with the saints and overcoming them 22 until the Ancient of Days came and (AK)judgment was given in favor of the saints of the Highest One, and the season arrived when the saints took possession of the kingdom.

23 “Thus he said: ‘The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth and tread it down and crush it. 24 As for the (AL)ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will make low three kings. 25 He will (AM)speak words against the (AN)Most High and (AO)wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make (AP)changes in seasons and in law; and [r]they will be given into his hand for a [s](AQ)time, [t]times, and half a [u]time. 26 But the court will sit for judgment, and his dominion will be (AR)taken away, [v]annihilated and destroyed [w]forever. 27 Then the [x](AS)reign, the dominion, and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Highest One; His kingdom will be an (AT)everlasting kingdom, and all the dominions will (AU)serve and obey Him.’

28 [y]At this point the matter of this revelation ended. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts were (AV)greatly alarming me, and the [z]splendor of my face changed, but I (AW)kept the matter in my heart.”

Psalm 114-115

When Israel Went Out from Egypt

114 When Israel went out (A)from Egypt,
The house of Jacob from a people of (B)strange language,
Judah became (C)His sanctuary,
Israel, (D)His dominion.

The (E)sea looked and fled;
The (F)Jordan turned back.
The mountains (G)skipped like rams,
The hills, like lambs.
What (H)disturbs you, O sea, that you flee?
O Jordan, that you turn back?
O mountains, that you skip like rams?
O hills, like lambs?

(I)Tremble, O earth, before the Lord,
Before the God of Jacob,
Who (J)turned the rock into a (K)pool of water,
The (L)flint into a spring of water.

To Yahweh’s Name Give Glory

115 (M)Not to us, O Yahweh, not to us,
But (N)to Your name give glory
Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your [a]truth.
(O)Why should the nations say,
(P)Where, now, is their God?”
But our (Q)God is in the heavens;
He (R)does whatever He pleases.
Their (S)idols are silver and gold,
The (T)work of man’s hands.
They have mouths, but they (U)do not speak;
They have eyes, but they do not see;
They have ears, but they do not hear;
They have noses, but they do not smell;
As for their hands, they do not feel;
As for their feet, they do not walk;
They do not make a sound with their throat.
(V)Those who make them [b]will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.

O (W)Israel, (X)trust in Yahweh;
He is their (Y)help and their shield.
10 O house of (Z)Aaron, trust in Yahweh;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who [c](AA)fear Yahweh, trust in Yahweh;
He is their help and their shield.
12 Yahweh (AB)remembered us; He will bless!
He will bless the house of Israel.
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will (AC)bless those who [d]fear Yahweh,
(AD)The small together with the great.
14 May Yahweh (AE)give you increase,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of Yahweh,
(AF)Who made heaven and earth.

16 The heavens are (AG)the heavens of Yahweh,
But (AH)the earth He has given to the sons of men.
17 It is not the (AI)dead that praise Yah,
And it is none of those who go down to (AJ)silence;
18 But as for us, we will (AK)bless Yah
From now until forever.
[e]Praise Yah!
