¹³ Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” because God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. ¹⁴ But each person is tempted when he is dragged away and enticed by his own desire. ¹⁵ Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin. And sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death.

¹⁶ Do not be deceived, my dear brothers. ¹⁷ Every good act of giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the lights, who does not change or shift like a shadow.^{[a] 18} Just as he planned, he gave us birth by the word of truth so that we would be a kind of firstfruits of his creations.
