15 A prophecy against Moab.
1 The [a]burden of Moab. Surely [b]Ar of Moab was destroyed, and brought to silence in a night: surely Kir of Moab was destroyed, and brought to silence in a night.
2 [c]He shall go up to the Temple, and to Dibon to the high places to weep: for [d]Nebo and for Medeba shall Moab howl: upon all [e]their heads shall be baldness, and every beard shaven.
3 In their streets shall they be girded with sackcloth: on the tops of their houses, and in their streets everyone shall howl, and come down with weeping.
4 And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard unto Jahaz: therefore the warriors of Moab shall shout: the soul of everyone shall lament in himself.
5 Mine [f]heart shall cry for Moab: his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, [g]an heifer of three years old: for they shall go up with weeping by the mounting up of Luhith: and by the way of Horonaim they [h]shall raise up a cry of destruction.
6 For the waters of Nimrim shall be dried up: therefore the grass is withered, the herbs consumed, and there was no green herb.
7 Therefore what every man hath left, and their substance shall they bear to the [i]brook of the willows.
8 For the cry went round about the borders of Moab, and the howling thereof unto Eglaim, and the skriking thereof unto Beer Elim,
9 Because the waters of Dimon shall be full [j]of blood: for I will bring more upon Dimon, even lions [k]upon him that escapeth of Moab, and to the remnant of the land.
16 The causes wherefore the Moabites are destroyed.
1 Send [l]ye a lamb to the ruler of the world from the rock of the wilderness, unto the mountain of the daughter Zion.
2 For it shall be as a bird that [m]flieth, and a nest forsaken: the daughters of Moab shall be at the fords of Arnon.
3 Gather a counsel, execute judgment, [n]make thy shadow as the night in the midday: hide them that are chased out: bewray not him that is fled.
4 Let my banished dwell with thee: Moab, be thou their covert from the face of the destroyer: for the extortioner [o]shall end: the destroyer shall be consumed, and the oppressor shall cease out of the land.
5 And in mercy shall the throne be prepared, [p]and he shall sit upon it in steadfastness, in the tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking judgment, and hasting justice.
6 We have heard of the pride of Moab (he is very proud) even his pride, and his arrogancy, and his indignation, but his [q]lies shall not be so.
7 Therefore shall Moab howl unto Moab, everyone shall howl: for the foundations of Kir Hareseth shall ye mourn, yet they shall be [r]stricken.
8 For the vineyards of Heshbon are cut down, and the vine of Sibmah: [s]the lords of the heathen have broken the principal vines thereof: they are come unto [t]Jazer: they wandered in the wilderness: her goodly branches stretched out themselves, and went over the sea.
9 Therefore will [u]I weep with the weeping of Jazer, and of the vine of Sibmah, O Heshbon: and Elealeh, I will make thee drunk with my tears, because upon thy summer fruits, and upon thy harvest [v]a shouting is fallen.
10 And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field: and in the vineyards shall be no singing nor shouting for joy: the treader shall not tread wine in the wine presses: I have caused the rejoicing to cease.
11 Wherefore, my [w]bowels shall sound like an harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kir Heres.
12 And when it shall appear that Moab shall be weary of his high places, then shall he come to his [x]temple to pray, but he shall not prevail.
13 This is the word that the Lord hath spoken against Moab since that time.
14 And now the Lord hath spoken, saying, [y]In three years as the years of an [z]hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be contemned in all the great multitude, and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.
17 1 A prophecy of the destruction of Damascus and Ephraim, 7 calamity moveth to repentance.
1 The [aa]burden of [ab]Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, for it shall be a ruinous heap.
2 The cities of [ac]Aroer shall be forsaken: they shall be for the flocks: for they shall lie there, and none shall make them afraid.
3 The munition also shall cease from [ad]Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Aram shall be as the [ae]glory of the children of Israel, saith the Lord of hosts.
4 And in that day the glory of [af]Jacob shall be made clean.
5 And it shall be as when the harvest man gathereth [ag]the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm, and he shall be as he that gathereth the ears in the valley of [ah]Rephaim.
6 Yet a gathering of grapes shall [ai]be left in it: as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries are in the top of the upmost boughs, and four or five in the high branches of the fruit thereof, saith the Lord God of Israel.
7 At that day shall a man look to his [aj]maker, and his eyes shall look to the holy one of Israel.
8 And he shall not look to the altars, the works of his own hands, neither shall he look to those things which his own fingers have made, as groves and images.
9 In that day shall the cities of their strength be as the forsaking of boughs and branches, which [ak]they did forsake, because of the children of Israel, and there shall be desolation.
10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not remembered the God of thy strength, therefore shalt thou set pleasant plants, and shalt graft strange [al]vine branches.
11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be gone in the day [am]of possession, and there shall be desperate sorrow.
12 [an]Ah, the multitude of many people, they shall make a sound like the noise of the sea: for the noise of the people shall make a sound like the noise of mighty waters.
13 The people shall make a sound like the noise of many waters: but God shall [ao]rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and as a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
14 And lo, in the evening there is [ap]trouble: but afore the morning it is gone. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.
18 1 Of the enemies of the Church. 7 And of the vocation of the Gentiles.
1 Oh, the [aq]land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia,
2 Sending ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of [ar]reeds upon the waters, saying, [as]Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation that is scattered abroad, and spoiled, unto a terrible [at]people from their beginning even hitherto: a nation by little and little even trodden under foot: whose land the [au]floods have spoiled.
3 All ye the inhabitants of the world, and dwellers in the earth, shall see when [av]he setteth up a sign in the mountains, and when he bloweth the trumpet, ye shall hear.
4 For so the Lord said unto me, I will [aw]rest and behold in my tabernacle, as [ax]the heat drying up the rain, and as a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.
5 For afore the harvest, when the flour is finished, and the fruit is ripening in the flour, then he shall cut down the branches with hooks, and shall take away, and cut off the boughs:
6 They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains, and to the [ay]beasts of the earth: for the fowl shall summer upon it, and every beast of the earth shall winter upon it.
7 At that time shall a [az]present be brought unto the Lord of hosts (a people that is scattered abroad, and spoiled, and of a terrible people from their beginning hitherto, a nation by little and little even trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled) to the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, even the mount Zion.
The Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Galatians
1 1 Straight after the salutation, 6 He reprehendeth the Galatians for revolting, 9 from his Gospel, 15 which he received from God, 17 before he had communicated with any of the Apostles.
1 Paul [a]an Apostle (not [b]of men, neither by [c]man, (A)but by [d]Jesus Christ, and God the Father which hath raised him from the dead.)
2 And all the brethren which are with me unto the Churches of Galatia:
3 Grace be with you, and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
4 [e]Which gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us (B)from this present evil [f]world according to the will of God even our Father,
5 To whom be glory forever and ever, Amen.
6 [g]I marvel that ye are so soon [h]removed away unto another Gospel, from him that had called you in the grace of Christ,
7 [i]Which is not another Gospel, save that there be some which trouble you, and intend to [j]pervert the Gospel of Christ.
8 But though that we, or an Angel from heaven preach unto you otherwise than that which we have preached unto you, let him be [k]accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach unto you otherwise than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 [l]For now preach I [m]man’s doctrine, or God’s? or go I about to please men? for if I should yet please men, I were not the servant of Christ.
11 (C)[n]Now I certify you, brethren, that the Gospel which was preached of me, was not after man.
12 For neither received I it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the [o]revelation of Jesus Christ.
13 [p]For ye have heard of my conversation in time past, in the Jewish religion, how that (D)I persecuted the Church of God extremely, and wasted it,
14 And profited in the Jewish religion above many of my companions of mine own nation, and was much more zealous of the [q]traditions of my fathers.
15 But when it pleased God (which had [r]separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace.)
16 To reveal his Son [s]in me, that I should preach him (E)among the Gentiles immediately, [t]I communicated not with [u]flesh and blood:
17 Neither came I again to Jerusalem to them which were Apostles before me, but I went into Arabia, and turned again unto Damascus.
18 Then after three years I came again to Jerusalem, to visit Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
19 And none other of the Apostles saw I, save James the Lord’s brother.
20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, I witness [v]before God, that I lie not.
21 After that, I went into the coasts of Syria and Cilicia: for I was unknown by face unto the Churches of Judea which were in Christ.
22 But they had heard only some say, He which persecuted us in time past, now preacheth the [w]faith which before he destroyed.
23 And they glorified God for me.
58 1 He describeth the malice of his enemies, the flatterers of Saul, who both secretly and openly sought his destruction, from whom he appealeth to God’s judgment, 10 Showing that the just shall rejoice, when they see the punishment of the wicked to the glory of God.
To him that excelleth. Destroy not. A Psalm of David on Michtam.
1 Is it true? O [a]congregation, speak ye justly? O sons of men judge ye uprightly?
2 Yea, rather ye imagine mischief in your heart: [b]your hands execute cruelty upon the earth.
3 The wicked [c]are strangers from the womb: even from the belly have they erred, and speak lies.
4 Their poison is even like the poison of a serpent; like the deaf [d]adder that stoppeth his ear.
5 Which heareth not the voice of the enchanter, though he be most expert in charming.
6 Break their [e]teeth, O God, in their mouths: break the jaws of the young lions, O Lord.
7 Let them [f]melt like the waters, let them pass away; when he shooteth his arrows, let them be as broken.
8 Let them consume like a snail that melteth, and like the untimely fruit of a woman, that hath not seen the sun.
9 [g]As raw flesh before your pots feel the fire of thorns: so let them carry them away as with a whirlwind in his wrath.
10 The righteous shall [h]rejoice when he seeth the vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the [i]blood of the wicked.
11 And men shall say, [j]Verily there is fruit for the righteous; doubtless there is a God that judgeth in the earth.
