24 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including all the women, “Hear the word of the Lord, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt.(A) 25 This is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘As for you and your wives, you women have spoken with your mouths, and you men fulfilled it by your deeds, saying, “We will keep our vows that we have made to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings for her.” Go ahead, confirm your vows! Pay your vows!’
26 “Therefore, hear the word of the Lord, all you Judeans who live in the land of Egypt: ‘I have sworn by My great name,(B) says Yahweh, that My name will never again be invoked by anyone of Judah in all the land of Egypt,(C) saying, “As the Lord God lives.” 27 I am watching over them for disaster and not for good,(D) and every man of Judah who is in the land of Egypt will meet his end by sword or famine until they are finished off. 28 Those who escape the sword will return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah only few in number,(E) and the whole remnant of Judah, the ones going to the land of Egypt to live there for a while, will know whose word stands, Mine or theirs! 29 This will be a sign to you’—this is the Lord’s declaration—‘that I am about to punish you in this place, so you may know that My words of disaster concerning you will certainly come to pass.(F) 30 This is what the Lord says: I am about to hand over Pharaoh Hophra,(G) Egypt’s king, to his enemies, to those who want to take his life, just as I handed over Judah’s King Zedekiah(H) to Babylon’s King Nebuchadnezzar, who was his enemy, the one who wanted to take his life.’”
The Lord’s Message to Baruch
45 This is the word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah(I) when he wrote these words on a scroll at Jeremiah’s dictation[a](J) in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah:(K) 2 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch: 3 ‘You have said, “Woe is me, because the Lord has added misery to my pain! I am worn out with[b] groaning and have found no rest.”’(L)
4 “This is what you are to say to him: ‘This is what the Lord says: What I have built I am about to demolish, and what I have planted I am about to uproot(M)—the whole land! 5 But as for you, do you seek great things for yourself? Stop seeking! For I am about to bring disaster on every living creature’—this is the Lord’s declaration—‘but I will grant you your life like the spoils of war(N) wherever you go.’”

Prophecies against Egypt
2 About Egypt and the army of Pharaoh Neco, Egypt’s king,(P) which was defeated at Carchemish(Q) on the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of Judah’s King Jehoiakim son of Josiah:(R)
3 Deploy small shields(S) and large;
draw near for battle!
4 Harness the horses;
mount the steeds;[c]
take your positions with helmets on!
Polish the lances;
put on armor!(T)
5 Why have I seen this?
They are terrified,
they are retreating,
their warriors are crushed,
they flee headlong,
they never look back,
terror is on every side!(U)
This is the Lord’s declaration.
6 The swift cannot flee,
and the warrior cannot escape!
In the north by the bank of the Euphrates River,
they stumble and fall.(V)
7 Who is this, rising like the Nile,(W)
like rivers whose waters churn?
8 Egypt rises like the Nile,
and its waters churn like rivers.
He boasts, “I will go up, I will cover the earth;
I will destroy cities with their residents.”
9 Rise up, you cavalry!
Race furiously, you chariots!
Let the warriors go out—
Cush and Put,(X)
who are able to handle shields,
and the Ludim,(Y)
who are able to handle and string the bow.(Z)
10 That day belongs to the Lord, the God of Hosts,
a day of vengeance to avenge Himself
against His adversaries.
The sword will devour and be satisfied;
it will drink its fill of their blood,
because it will be a sacrifice(AA) to the Lord, the God of Hosts,
in the northern land by the Euphrates River.
11 Go up to Gilead and get balm,(AB)
Virgin Daughter Egypt!
You have multiplied remedies in vain;
there is no healing for you.
12 The nations have heard of your dishonor,(AC)
and your outcry fills the earth,
because warrior stumbles against warrior
and together both of them have fallen.
13 This is the word the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to defeat the land of Egypt:(AD)
14 Announce it in Egypt, and proclaim it in Migdol!(AE)
Proclaim it in Memphis and in Tahpanhes!
Say: Take positions! Prepare yourself,
for the sword devours all around you.(AF)
15 Why have your strong ones been swept away?
Each has not stood,
for the Lord has thrust him down.
16 He continues to stumble.(AG)
Indeed, each falls over the other.
They say, “Get up! Let’s return to our people
and to the land of our birth,
away from the sword that oppresses.”(AH)
17 There they will cry out,
“Pharaoh king of Egypt was all noise;
he let the opportune moment pass.”
18 As I live—
this is the King’s declaration;
Yahweh of Hosts is His name.(AI)
He will come like Tabor among the mountains
and like Carmel by the sea.
19 Get your bags ready for exile,
inhabitant of Daughter Egypt!(AJ)
For Memphis will become a desolation,
uninhabited ruins.
20 Egypt is a beautiful young cow,(AK)
but a horsefly from the north is coming against her.[d](AL)
21 Even her mercenaries among her
are like stall-fed calves.
They too will turn back;
together they will flee;
they will not take their stand,
for the day of their calamity is coming on them,
the time of their punishment.(AM)
22 Egypt will hiss like a slithering snake,[e]
for the enemy will come with an army;
with axes they will come against her
like those who cut trees.(AN)
23 They will cut down her forest—
this is the Lord’s declaration—
though it is dense,
for they are more numerous than locusts;
they cannot be counted.(AO)
24 Daughter Egypt will be put to shame,
handed over to a northern people.(AP)
25 The Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “I am about to punish Amon, god of Thebes,(AQ) along with Pharaoh, Egypt, her gods, and her kings—Pharaoh and those trusting in him. 26 I will hand them over to those who want to take their lives(AR)—to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. But after this,(AS) it will be inhabited again as in ancient times.”
This is the Lord’s declaration.
Reassurance for Israel
27 But you, My servant Jacob, do not be afraid,(AT)
and do not be discouraged, Israel,
for without fail I will save you from far away
and your descendants, from the land of their captivity!
Jacob will return and have calm and quiet
with no one to frighten him.
28 And you, My servant Jacob, do not be afraid—
this is the Lord’s declaration—
for I will be with you.(AU)
I will bring destruction on all the nations
where I have banished you,
but I will not bring destruction on you.
I will discipline you with justice,
and I will by no means leave you unpunished.(AV)
Prophecies against the Philistines
47 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet about the Philistines(AW) before Pharaoh defeated Gaza.(AX) 2 This is what the Lord says:
Look, waters are rising from the north
and becoming an overflowing wadi.
They will overflow the land and everything in it,(AY)
the cities and their inhabitants.
The people will cry out,
and every inhabitant of the land will wail.
3 At the sound of the stomping hooves of his stallions,(AZ)
the rumbling of his chariots,
and the clatter of their wheels,(BA)
fathers will not turn back for their sons,
because they will be utterly helpless[f]
4 on account of the day that is coming
to destroy all the Philistines,
to cut off from Tyre and Sidon
every remaining ally.(BB)
Indeed, the Lord is about to destroy the Philistines,
the remnant of the islands of Caphtor.[g](BC)
5 Baldness is coming to Gaza.(BD)
Ashkelon will become silent,(BE)
a remnant of their valley.
How long will you gash yourself?
22 Flee(A) from youthful passions, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace,(B) along with those who call on the Lord(C) from a pure heart. 23 But reject foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they breed quarrels. 24 The Lord’s(D) slave must not quarrel,(E) but must be gentle to everyone, able to teach,[a] and patient, 25 instructing his opponents with gentleness.(F) Perhaps God will grant them repentance(G) leading them to the knowledge of the truth. 26 Then they may come to their senses and escape the Devil’s trap,(H) having been captured by him to do his will.(I)
Difficult Times Ahead
3 But know this: Difficult times will come in the last days.(J) 2 For people will be lovers of self,(K) lovers of money,(L) boastful, proud,(M) blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,(N) 3 unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers,(O) without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,(P) 4 traitors,(Q) reckless,(R) conceited,(S) lovers of pleasure(T) rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to the form of godliness but denying its power.(U) Avoid these people!(V)
6 For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions,(W) 7 always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.(X) 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres(Y) resisted Moses,(Z) so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind,(AA) worthless(AB) in regard to the faith. 9 But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs[b] was also.
Struggles in the Christian Life
10 But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose,(AC) faith, patience, love,(AD) and endurance, 11 along with the persecutions and sufferings(AE) that came to me in Antioch,(AF) Iconium,(AG) and Lystra.(AH) What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all. 12 In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.(AI) 13 Evil people and impostors will become worse, deceiving(AJ) and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you,(AK) 15 and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures,(AL) which are able to give you wisdom for salvation(AM) through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God[c](AN) and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.(AO)
Psalm 94
The Just Judge
1 Lord, God of vengeance—
God of vengeance, appear.(A)
2 Rise up, Judge of the earth;
repay the proud what they deserve.(B)
3 Lord, how long will the wicked—
how long will the wicked gloat?(C)
4 They pour out arrogant words;
all the evildoers boast.(D)
5 Lord, they crush Your people;
they afflict Your heritage.(E)
6 They kill the widow and the foreigner
and murder the fatherless.(F)
7 They say, “The Lord doesn’t see it.
The God of Jacob doesn’t pay attention.”(G)
8 Pay attention, you stupid people!
Fools, when will you be wise?(H)
9 Can the One who shaped the ear not hear,
the One who formed the eye not see?(I)
10 The One who instructs nations,
the One who teaches man knowledge—
does He not discipline?(J)
11 The Lord knows man’s thoughts;
they are meaningless.(K)
12 Lord, happy is the man You discipline
and teach from Your law(L)
13 to give him relief from troubled times
until a pit is dug for the wicked.(M)
14 The Lord will not forsake His people
or abandon His heritage,(N)
15 for justice will again be righteous,
and all the upright in heart will follow[a] it.(O)
16 Who stands up for me against the wicked?
Who takes a stand for me against evildoers?(P)
17 If the Lord had not been my helper,
I would soon rest in the silence of death.(Q)
18 If I say, “My foot is slipping,”
Your faithful love will support me, Lord.(R)
19 When I am filled with cares,
Your comfort brings me joy.(S)
20 Can a corrupt throne—
one that creates trouble by law—
become Your ally?(T)
21 They band together against the life of the righteous
and condemn the innocent to death.(U)
22 But the Lord is my refuge;
my God is the rock of my protection.(V)
23 He will pay them back for their sins
and destroy them for their evil.
The Lord our God will destroy them.(W)
