Chronological
The Lord Praised for His Goodness.
111 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
I (A)will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the (B)company of the upright and in the assembly.
2 (C)Great are the works of the Lord;
They are [c](D)studied by all who delight in them.
3 [d](E)Splendid and majestic is His work,
And (F)His righteousness endures forever.
4 He has made His [e]wonders [f]to be remembered;
The Lord is (G)gracious and compassionate.
5 He has (H)given [g]food to those who [h]fear Him;
He will (I)remember His covenant forever.
6 He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.
7 The works of His hands are [i](J)truth and justice;
All His precepts (K)are [j]sure.
8 They are (L)upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in [k](M)truth and uprightness.
9 He has sent (N)redemption to His people;
He has [l]ordained His covenant forever;
(O)Holy and [m]awesome is His name.
10 The [n](P)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A (Q)good understanding have all those who [o]do His commandments;
His (R)praise endures forever.
Prosperity of the One Who Fears the Lord.
112 [p]Praise [q]the Lord!
How (S)blessed is the man who [r]fears the Lord,
Who greatly (T)delights in His commandments.
2 His [s](U)descendants will be mighty [t]on earth;
The generation of the (V)upright will be blessed.
3 (W)Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light arises in the darkness (X)for the upright;
He is (Y)gracious and compassionate and righteous.
5 It is well with the man who (Z)is gracious and lends;
He will [u]maintain his cause in judgment.
6 For he will (AA)never be shaken;
The (AB)righteous will be [v]remembered forever.
7 He will not fear (AC)evil tidings;
His (AD)heart is steadfast, (AE)trusting in the Lord.
8 His (AF)heart is upheld, he (AG)will not fear,
Until he (AH)looks with satisfaction on his adversaries.
9 [w]He (AI)has given freely to the poor,
His righteousness endures forever;
His (AJ)horn will be exalted in honor.
10 The (AK)wicked will see it and be [x]vexed,
He will (AL)gnash his teeth and (AM)melt away;
The (AN)desire of the wicked will perish.
The Lord Exalts the Humble.
113 [y]Praise [z]the Lord!
(AO)Praise, O (AP)servants of the Lord,
Praise the name of the Lord.
2 (AQ)Blessed be the name of the Lord
From this time forth and forever.
3 (AR)From the rising of the sun to its setting
The (AS)name of the Lord is to be praised.
4 The Lord is (AT)high above all nations;
His (AU)glory is above the heavens.
5 (AV)Who is like the Lord our God,
Who (AW)is enthroned on high,
6 Who [aa](AX)humbles Himself to behold
The things that are in heaven and in the earth?
7 He (AY)raises the poor from the dust
And lifts the needy from the ash heap,
8 To make them (AZ)sit with [ab]princes,
With the [ac]princes of His people.
9 He (BA)makes the barren woman abide in the house
As a joyful mother of children.
[ad]Praise [ae]the Lord!
God’s Deliverance of Israel from Egypt.
114 When Israel went forth (BB)from Egypt,
The house of Jacob from a people of (BC)strange language,
2 Judah became (BD)His sanctuary,
Israel, (BE)His dominion.
3 The (BF)sea looked and fled;
The (BG)Jordan turned back.
4 The mountains (BH)skipped like rams,
The hills, like lambs.
5 What (BI)ails you, O sea, that you flee?
O Jordan, that you turn back?
6 O mountains, that you skip like rams?
O hills, like lambs?
7 (BJ)Tremble, O earth, before the Lord,
Before the God of Jacob,
8 Who (BK)turned the rock into a (BL)pool of water,
The (BM)flint into a fountain of water.
Heathen Idols Contrasted with the Lord.
115 (BN)Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
But (BO)to Your name give glory
Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your [af]truth.
2 (BP)Why should the nations say,
“(BQ)Where, now, is their God?”
3 But our (BR)God is in the heavens;
He (BS)does whatever He pleases.
4 Their (BT)idols are silver and gold,
The (BU)work of man’s hands.
5 They have mouths, but they (BV)cannot speak;
They have eyes, but they cannot see;
6 They have ears, but they cannot hear;
They have noses, but they cannot smell;
7 [ag]They have hands, but they cannot feel;
[ah]They have feet, but they cannot walk;
They cannot make a sound with their throat.
8 (BW)Those who make them [ai]will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.
9 O (BX)Israel, (BY)trust in the Lord;
He is their (BZ)help and their shield.
10 O house of (CA)Aaron, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who [aj](CB)fear the Lord, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord (CC)has been mindful of us; He will bless us;
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will (CD)bless those who [ak]fear the Lord,
(CE)The small together with the great.
14 May the Lord (CF)give you increase,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of the Lord,
(CG)Maker of heaven and earth.
16 The heavens are (CH)the heavens of the Lord,
But (CI)the earth He has given to the sons of men.
17 The (CJ)dead do not praise [al]the Lord,
Nor do any who go down into (CK)silence;
18 But as for us, we will (CL)bless [am]the Lord
From this time forth and forever.
[an]Praise [ao]the Lord!
Thanksgiving for Deliverance from Death.
116 (CM)I love the Lord, because He (CN)hears
My voice and my supplications.
2 Because He has (CO)inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live.
3 The (CP)cords of death encompassed me
And the [ap]terrors of [aq]Sheol [ar]came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
4 Then (CQ)I called upon the name of the Lord:
“O Lord, I beseech You, [as](CR)save my life!”
5 (CS)Gracious is the Lord, and (CT)righteous;
Yes, our God is (CU)compassionate.
6 The Lord preserves (CV)the simple;
I was (CW)brought low, and He saved me.
7 Return to your (CX)rest, O my soul,
For the Lord has (CY)dealt bountifully with you.
8 For You have (CZ)rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
My feet from stumbling.
9 I shall walk before the Lord
In the [at](DA)land of the living.
10 I (DB)believed when I said,
“I am (DC)greatly afflicted.”
11 I (DD)said in my alarm,
“(DE)All men are liars.”
12 What shall I (DF)render to the Lord
For all His (DG)benefits [au]toward me?
13 I shall lift up the (DH)cup of salvation
And (DI)call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I shall (DJ)pay my vows to the Lord,
Oh may it be (DK)in the presence of all His people.
15 (DL)Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His godly ones.
16 O Lord, [av]surely I am (DM)Your servant,
I am Your servant, the (DN)son of Your handmaid,
You have (DO)loosed my bonds.
17 To You I shall offer (DP)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (DQ)call upon the name of the Lord.
18 I shall (DR)pay my vows to the Lord,
Oh may it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (DS)courts of the Lord’s house,
In the midst of you, O (DT)Jerusalem.
[aw]Praise [ax]the Lord!
A Psalm of Praise.
117 (DU)Praise the Lord, all nations;
Laud Him, all peoples!
2 For His (DV)lovingkindness [ay]is great toward us,
And the [az](DW)truth of the Lord is everlasting.
[ba]Praise [bb]the Lord!
Thanksgiving for the Lord’s Saving Goodness.
118 (DX)Give thanks to the Lord, for (DY)He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
2 Oh let (DZ)Israel say,
“His lovingkindness is everlasting.”
3 Oh let the (EA)house of Aaron say,
“His lovingkindness is everlasting.”
4 Oh let those (EB)who [bc]fear the Lord say,
“His lovingkindness is everlasting.”
5 From my (EC)distress I called upon [bd]the Lord;
[be]The Lord answered me and (ED)set me in a large place.
6 The Lord is (EE)for me; I will (EF)not fear;
(EG)What can man do to me?
7 The Lord is for me (EH)among those who help me;
Therefore I will (EI)look with satisfaction on those who hate me.
8 It is (EJ)better to take refuge in the Lord
Than to trust in man.
9 It is (EK)better to take refuge in the Lord
Than to trust in princes.
10 All nations (EL)surrounded me;
In the name of the Lord I will surely (EM)cut them off.
11 They (EN)surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me;
In the name of the Lord I will surely cut them off.
12 They surrounded me (EO)like bees;
They were extinguished as a (EP)fire of thorns;
In the name of the Lord I will surely cut them off.
13 You (EQ)pushed me violently so that I [bf]was falling,
But the Lord (ER)helped me.
14 [bg](ES)The Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become (ET)my salvation.
15 The sound of (EU)joyful shouting and salvation is in the tents of the righteous;
The (EV)right hand of the Lord does valiantly.
16 The (EW)right hand of the Lord is exalted;
The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.
17 I (EX)will not die, but live,
And (EY)tell of the works of [bh]the Lord.
18 [bi]The Lord has (EZ)disciplined me severely,
But He has (FA)not given me over to death.
19 (FB)Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to [bj]the Lord.
20 This is the gate of the Lord;
The (FC)righteous will enter through it.
21 I shall give thanks to You, for You have (FD)answered me,
And You have (FE)become my salvation.
22 The (FF)stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief corner stone.
23 This is [bk]the Lord’s doing;
It is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the Lord has made;
Let us (FG)rejoice and be glad in it.
25 O Lord, (FH)do save, we beseech You;
O Lord, we beseech You, do send (FI)prosperity!
26 (FJ)Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord;
We have (FK)blessed you from the house of the Lord.
27 (FL)The Lord is God, and He has given us (FM)light;
Bind the festival sacrifice with cords [bl]to the (FN)horns of the altar.
28 (FO)You are my God, and I give thanks to You;
You are my God, (FP)I extol You.
29 (FQ)Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
