Chronological
6 O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger, nor chastise me in Your wrath.
2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am weak. O LORD, heal me, for my bones are vexed.
3 My soul is also very troubled. But LORD, how long will You delay?
4 Return, O LORD. Deliver my soul. Save me for Your mercy’s sake.
5 For in death there is no remembrance of You. In the grave, who shall praise You?
6 I fainted in my mourning. Every night I cause my bed to swim, and water my couch with my tears.
7 My eye is dimmed for grief, and sunk in because of all my enemies.
8 Away from me all you workers of iniquity. For the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.
9 The LORD has heard my petition. The LORD will receive my prayer.
10 All my enemies shall be confounded and very vexed. They shall be turned back and put to shame suddenly. Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD, concerning the words of Cush, the son of Benjamin.
8 O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your Name in all the world; Who has set Your Glory above the heavens!
2 Out of the mouth of children and infants You have ordained strength, because of Your enemies; that You might cease the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I behold Your heavens, the works of Your fingers; the moon and the stars which You have ordained,
4 what is man that You are mindful of him; and the son of man that You seek him?
5 For You have made him a little lower than God and crowned him with glory and worship.
6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands. You have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen; indeed, and the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the air and the fish of the sea; that which passes through the paths of the seas.
9 O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your Name in all the world! To him who excels upon Muth Labben: A Psalm of David.
9 I will praise the LORD with my whole heart. I will speak of all Your marvelous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in You. I will sing praise to Your Name, O Most High,
3 because my enemies are turned back. They shall fall and perish at Your presence.
4 For You have maintained my right and my cause. You are set on the Throne, and judge righteously.
5 You have rebuked the heathen. You have destroyed the wicked. You have put out their name forever and ever.
6 O enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end. And you have destroyed the cities. Their memorial has perished with them.
7 But the LORD shall sit forever. He has prepared His throne for judgment.
8 For He shall judge the world in righteousness; shall judge the people with equity.
9 The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in time and in affliction.
10 And those who know Your Name will trust in You. For You, LORD, have not failed those who seek You.
11 Sing praises to the LORD, Who dwells in Zion. Show the people His works.
12 For when He enquires after blood, He remembers it; not forgetting the complaint of the poor.
13 Have mercy upon me, O LORD. Consider my trouble from those who hate me, You Who lifts me up from the gates of death,
14 so that I may show all Your praises within the gates of the daughter of Zion and rejoice in Your salvation.
15 The heathen are sunken down in the pit they made. Their foot is taken in the net they have hidden.
16 The LORD is known by executing judgment. The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.
17 The wicked shall return to Hell, and all nations that forget God.
18 For the poor shall not be always forgotten. The hope of the afflicted shall not perish forever.
19 Up LORD! Do not let man prevail! Let the heathen be judged in Your sight.
20 Put them in fear, O LORD, so that the heathen may know that they are but men. Selah.
10 Why do you stand afar off, O LORD, hiding Yourself in time of trouble?
2 With pride, the wicked persecute the poor. Let them be taken in the crafts that they have imagined.
3 For the wicked has boasted of his own heart’s desire; and the covetous blesses himself and despises the LORD.
4 The wicked is so proud that he does not seek. He thinks always, “There is no God.”
5 His ways always prosper. Your judgments are high above his sight. He defies all his enemies.
6 He says in his heart, “I shall never be moved, nor be in danger.”
7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud. Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.
8 He lies in wait in the villages. He murders the innocent in the secret places. His eyes are bent against the poor.
9 He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den. He lies in wait to catch the poor. He catches the poor when he draws him into his net.
10 He crouches and bows. Therefore, heaps of the poor fall by his might.
11 He has said in his heart, “God has forgotten. He hides his face and will never see.”
12 Arise, O LORD God. Lift up Your hand. Do not forget the poor.
13 Why do the wicked despise God? He says in his heart, “You will not see.”
14 Yet You have seen it. For You behold mischief and wrong, so that You may take it into Your hands. The poor commits himself to You. You are the helper of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked and malicious. Search his wickedness until you shall find none.
16 The LORD is King forever and ever. The heathen are destroyed from His land.
17 LORD, You have heard the desire of the oppressed. You prepare their heart. You bend Your ear
18 to vindicate the fatherless and oppressed, so that earthly man causes no more fear. To him who excels: A Psalm of David.
14 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They have corrupted; and done an abominable work. There is no one who does good.
2 The LORD looked down from Heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any who would understand, and seek God.
3 All have gone out of the way. They are all corrupt. There is no one who does good; no, not one.
4 Do not all the workers of iniquity know that they eat up my people as they eat bread? They do not call upon the LORD.
5 There they shall be taken with fear, because God is in the generation of the just.
6 You have shamed the counsel of the poor. But the LORD is his refuge.
7 Oh, give salvation to Israel out of Zion. When the LORD turns the captivity of His people, Jacob shall rejoice and Israel shall be glad. Note that Psalm 14:5-7, which are put into the common translation (and may seem to some to be left out here) are not in the same Psalm in the Hebrew text. Rather, they are put in more fully to express the manners of the wicked. They are gathered out of Psalms 5, 10, 36, 140, and Isaiah 59. They are alleged by Saint Paul and placed together in Romans 3. A Psalm of David.
16 Preserve me, O God. For in You do I trust.
2 O my soul, you have said to the LORD, “You are my LORD. My goodness is not, but for You.”
3 To the saints who are on the Earth, and to the excellent, all my delight is in them.
4 The sorrows of those who offer to another god shall be multiplied. Their offerings of blood I will not offer; nor make mention of their names with my lips.
5 The LORD is the portion of my inheritance, and of my cup. You shall maintain my lot.
6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Indeed, I have a fair heritage.
7 I will praise the LORD Who has given me counsel. My core also teaches me in the nights.
8 I have set the LORD always before me. For He is at my right hand. Therefore, I shall not slide.
9 Therefore, my heart is glad. And my tongue rejoices. My flesh, also, rests in hope.
10 For You will not leave my soul in the grave. Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
11 You will show me the path of life. In Your presence is the fullness of joy. And at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore. The prayer of David.
19 The heavens declare the Glory of God, and the firmament shows the work of His Hands.
2 Day unto day utters the same, and night unto night teaches knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line has gone forth through all the earth; and their words into the ends of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the Sun,
5 which comes forth as a bridegroom out of his chamber, and rejoices like a mighty man to run his race.
6 His going out is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit is to the ends of the same, and nothing is hidden from the heat thereof.
7 The Law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul. The testimony of the LORD is sure and gives wisdom to the simple.
8 The Statutes of the LORD are right and rejoice the heart. The Commandment of the LORD is pure and gives light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is clean and endures forever. The judgments of the LORD are truth. They are righteous altogether,
10 and more to be desired than gold—yea, than much fine gold—sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them your servant is made circumspect, and in the keeping of them there is great reward.
12 Who can understand his faults? Cleanse me from secret faults.
13 Keep your servant from presumptuous sins, also. Do not let them reign over me. So, shall I be upright and made clean from much wickedness.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD my strength, and my redeemer. To him who excels. A Psalm of David.
21 The king shall rejoice in Your strength, O LORD. Indeed, how greatly shall he rejoice in Your salvation!
2 You have given him his heart’s desire and have not denied the request of his lips. Selah.
3 For You meet him with liberal blessings and set a crown of pure gold upon his head.
4 He asked life of You, and You gave him a long life forever and ever.
5 His glory is great in Your salvation. Dignity and honor You have laid upon him.
6 For You have set him as most blessed forever. You have made him glad with the joy of Your countenance.
7 Because the king trusts in the LORD, and in the mercy of the Most High, he shall not slide.
8 Your hand shall find out all Your enemies. And Your right hand shall find out those who hate You.
9 You shall make them like a fiery oven in time of Your anger. The LORD shall destroy them in His wrath. And the fire shall devour them.
10 You shall destroy their fruit from the Earth, and their seed from the children of men.
11 For they intended evil against You and imagined mischief. But they shall not prevail.
12 Therefore, You shall make them turn their back. And You shall make ready the strings of Your bow against their faces.
13 Be exalted, O LORD, in Your strength. So, will we sing and praise Your power. To him who excels upon Aijeleth Hashahar: A Psalm of David.
