Psalm 86-89

To You, O Lord, I Lift Up My Soul

A Prayer of David.

86 (A)Incline Your ear, O Yahweh, and answer me;
For I am (B)afflicted and needy.
(C)Keep my [a]soul, for I am a (D)holy one;
O You my God, save Your slave who (E)trusts in You.
Be (F)gracious to me, O Lord,
For (G)to You I call all day long.
Make glad the soul of Your slave,
For to You, O Lord, (H)I lift up my soul.
For You, Lord, are (I)good, and (J)by nature forgiving,
And (K)abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You.
(L)Give ear, O Yahweh, to my prayer;
And give heed to the voice of my supplications!
In (M)the day of my distress I shall call upon You,
For (N)You will answer me.
There is (O)no one like You among the gods, O Lord,
Nor are there any works (P)like Yours.
(Q)All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord,
And they shall glorify Your name.
10 For You are (R)great and (S)do [b]wondrous deeds;
You alone (T)are God.

11 (U)Teach me Your way, O Yahweh;
I will walk in Your truth;
(V)Unite my heart to fear Your name.
12 I will (W)give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And will glorify Your name forever.
13 For Your lovingkindness toward me is great,
And You have (X)delivered my soul from Sheol below.

14 O God, arrogant men have (Y)risen up against me,
And [c]a band of ruthless men have sought my [d]life,
And they have not set You before them.
15 But You, O Lord, are a God (Z)compassionate and gracious,
Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and [e]truth.
16 (AA)Turn to me, and be gracious to me;
Oh (AB)grant Your strength to Your slave,
And save the (AC)son of Your maidservant.
17 [f](AD)Show me a sign for good,
That those who hate me may (AE)see it and be ashamed,
Because You, O Yahweh, (AF)have helped me and comforted me.

Yahweh Loves the Gates of Zion

Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm. A Song.

87 His (AG)foundation is in the holy mountains.
Yahweh (AH)loves the gates of Zion
More than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
(AI)Glorious things are spoken of you,
O (AJ)city of God. [g]Selah.
“I shall mention [h](AK)Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me;
Behold, Philistia and (AL)Tyre with [i](AM)Ethiopia:
‘This one was born there.’”
But of Zion it shall be said, “This one and that one were born in her”;
And the Most High Himself will (AN)establish her.
Yahweh will count when He (AO)registers the peoples,
“This one was born there.” Selah.
And (AP)singers, just like the (AQ)dancers, will all say,
“All my (AR)springs are in you.”

Incline Your Ear to My Cry

A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. For the choir director. According to Mahalath Leannoth. A [j]Maskil of Heman [k]the Ezrahite.

88 O Yahweh, the (AS)God of my salvation,
I have (AT)cried out by day and throughout the night before You.
Let my prayer (AU)come before You;
(AV)Incline Your ear to my cry of lamentation!
For my (AW)soul has been saturated with calamities,
And (AX)my life has reached Sheol.
I am counted among those who (AY)go down to the pit;
I am like a man (AZ)without strength,
Released (BA)among the dead,
Like the slain who lie in the grave,
Whom You remember no more,
And they are (BB)cut off from Your hand.
You have put me in (BC)the pit far below,
In (BD)dark places, in the (BE)depths.
Your wrath (BF)lies upon me,
And You afflict me with (BG)all Your breaking waves. [l]Selah.
You have removed (BH)my acquaintances far from me;
You have set me as [m]an (BI)abomination to them;
I am (BJ)shut up and cannot go out.
My (BK)eye has wasted away because of affliction;
I have (BL)called upon You every day, O Yahweh;
I have (BM)spread out my [n]hands to You.

10 Will You do wonders for the dead?
Will (BN)the [o]departed spirits rise and praise You? Selah.
11 Will Your lovingkindness be recounted in the grave,
Your faithfulness in [p]Abaddon?
12 Will Your wonders be known in the (BO)darkness?
And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

13 But as for me, O Yahweh, I have cried out (BP)to You for help,
And (BQ)in the morning my prayer comes before You.
14 O Yahweh, why (BR)do You reject my soul?
Why do You (BS)hide Your face from me?
15 I have been afflicted and (BT)about to breathe my last from my youth on;
I bear (BU)Your terrors; I am [q]overcome.
16 Your (BV)burning anger has passed over me;
Your horrors have [r](BW)destroyed me.
17 They have (BX)surrounded me (BY)like water all day long;
They have (BZ)encompassed me altogether.
18 You have removed (CA)lover and friend far from me;
My acquaintances are in darkness.

Sing of the Lovingkindness of Yahweh Forever

A [s]Maskil of [t]Ethan [u]the Ezrahite.

89 I will (CB)sing of the lovingkindnesses of Yahweh forever;
From generation to generation I will (CC)make known Your (CD)faithfulness with my mouth.
For I have said, “(CE)Lovingkindness will be built up forever;
In the heavens You will establish Your (CF)faithfulness.”
“I have cut a covenant with (CG)My chosen;
I have (CH)sworn to David My [v]servant,
I will establish your (CI)seed forever
And build up your (CJ)throne from generation to generation.” [w]Selah.

The (CK)heavens will praise Your wonders, O Yahweh;
Your faithfulness also (CL)in the assembly of the (CM)holy ones.
For (CN)who in the sky is comparable to Yahweh?
Who among the [x](CO)sons of the mighty is like Yahweh,
A God (CP)greatly dreaded in the council of the (CQ)holy ones,
And [y](CR)fearsome above all those who are around Him?
O Yahweh God of hosts, (CS)who is like You, O mighty Yah?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
You rule the swelling of the sea;
When its waves rise, You (CT)still them.
10 You Yourself crushed [z](CU)Rahab like one who is slain;
You (CV)scattered Your enemies with Your strong arm.

11 The (CW)heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours;
The (CX)world and its fullness, You have founded them.
12 The (CY)north and the south, You have created them;
(CZ)Tabor and (DA)Hermon (DB)sing with joy at Your name.
13 You have a mighty arm;
Your hand is strong, Your (DC)right hand is exalted.
14 (DD)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
(DE)Lovingkindness and [aa]truth go before You.
15 How blessed are the people who know the (DF)loud shout of joy!
O Yahweh, they walk in the (DG)light of Your face.
16 In (DH)Your name they rejoice all the day,
And by Your righteousness they are exalted.
17 For You are the beauty of (DI)their strength,
And by Your favor [ab]our (DJ)horn is exalted.
18 For our (DK)shield belongs to Yahweh,
[ac]And our king to the (DL)Holy One of Israel.

19 Formerly You spoke in vision to Your [ad]holy [ae]ones,
And said, “I have bestowed help to a (DM)mighty one;
I have exalted one (DN)chosen from the people.
20 I have (DO)found David My [af]servant;
With My holy (DP)oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom (DQ)My hand will be established;
My arm also will (DR)strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not [ag]deceive him,
Nor the [ah](DS)son of unrighteousness afflict him.
23 But I shall (DT)crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 My (DU)faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him,
And in My name his (DV)horn will be exalted.
25 I shall also set his hand (DW)on the sea
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are (DX)my Father,
My God, and the (DY)rock of my salvation.’
27 I also shall make him My (DZ)firstborn,
The (EA)highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My (EB)lovingkindness I will keep for him forever,
And My (EC)covenant shall be confirmed to him.
29 So I will set up his (ED)seed to endure forever
And his (EE)throne (EF)as the days of heaven.

30 “If his sons (EG)forsake My law
And do not walk in My judgments,
31 If they profane My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
32 Then I will punish their transgression with the (EH)rod
And their iniquity with striking.
33 But I will not break off (EI)My lovingkindness from him,
Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34 My (EJ)covenant I will not profane,
Nor will I (EK)alter what comes forth from My lips.
35 [ai]Once I have (EL)sworn by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36 His (EM)seed shall endure forever
And his (EN)throne (EO)as the sun before Me.
37 It shall be established forever (EP)like the moon,
And the (EQ)witness in the sky is faithful.” [aj]Selah.

38 But You have (ER)cast off and (ES)rejected,
You have been full of wrath [ak]against Your (ET)anointed.
39 You have (EU)spurned the covenant of Your [al]slave;
You have (EV)profaned (EW)his crown to the ground.
40 You have (EX)broken down all his walls;
You have (EY)beset his strongholds with ruin.
41 (EZ)All who pass along the way plunder him;
He has become a (FA)reproach to his neighbors.
42 You have (FB)exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
You have (FC)made all his enemies be glad.
43 You also turn back the edge of his sword
And have (FD)not made him arise in battle.
44 You have made his [am](FE)splendor to cease
And cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have (FF)shortened the days of his youth;
You have (FG)wrapped him up with shame. Selah.

46 (FH)How long, O Yahweh?
Will You hide Yourself forever?
Will Your (FI)wrath burn like fire?
47 (FJ)Remember [an]what my span of life is;
For what (FK)vanity [ao]You have created all the sons of men!
48 What man can live and not (FL)see death?
Can he (FM)provide his soul escape from the [ap]power of Sheol? Selah.

49 Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, O Lord,
Which You (FN)swore to David in Your faithfulness?
50 Remember, O Lord, the (FO)reproach of Your [aq]slaves;
[ar]How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,
51 With which (FP)Your enemies have reproached, O Yahweh,
With which they have reproached the footsteps of (FQ)Your anointed.

52 (FR)Blessed be Yahweh forever!
Amen and Amen.
