Psalm 108-114

108 This Psalm is composed of two other Psalms before the seven and fiftieth and the sixtieth.  The matter here contained is, 1 That David giveth himself with heart and voice to praise the Lord, 7 and assureth himself of the promise of God concerning his kingdom over Israel, and his power against other nations: 11 Who though he seem to forsake us for a time, yet he alone will in the end cast down our enemies.

A song or Psalm of David.

O God, mine heart is [a]prepared, so is [b]my tongue: I will sing and give praise.

Awake viol and harp, I will awake early.

I will praise thee, O Lord, among the [c]people, and I will sing unto thee among the nations.

For thy mercy is great above the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.

[d]Exalt thyself, O God, above the heavens, and let thy glory be upon all the earth,

That thy beloved may be delivered: [e]help with thy right hand and hear me.

God hath spoken in his [f]holiness: therefore I will rejoice, I shall divide Shechem and measure the valley of Succoth.

Gilead shall be mine, and Manasseh shall be mine: Ephraim also shall be the strength of mine head: Judah is my lawgiver.

(A)Moab shall be my washpot: over Edom will I cast out my shoe: upon Palestine will I triumph.

10 Who will lead me into the strong city? who will bring me unto Edom?

11 [g]Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst forsaken us, and didst not go forth, O God, with our armies?

12 Give us help against trouble: for vain is the help of man.

13 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he shall tread down our enemies.

109 1 David being falsely accused by flatterers unto Saul, prayeth God to help him, and to destroy his enemies. 8 And under them he speaketh of Judas the traitor unto Jesus Christ, and of all the like enemies of the children of God:  27 And desireth so to be delivered, that his enemies may know the work to be of God. 30 Then doth he promise to give praise unto God.

To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.

Hold not thy tongue, O God of my [h]praise.

For the mouth of the wicked, and the mouth full of deceit are opened upon me: they have spoken to me with a lying tongue.

They compassed me about also with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause.

For my friendship they were my adversaries, [i]but I gave myself to prayer.

And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship.

[j]Set thou the wicked over him, and let the adversary stand at his right hand.

When he shall be judged, let him be condemned, and let his [k]prayer be turned into sin.

Let his days be few, and let another take his [l]charge.

Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10 Let his children be vagabonds, and beg and seek bread, coming out of their places destroyed.

11 Let [m]the extortioner catch all that he hath, and let the strangers spoil his labor.

12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to show mercy upon his fatherless children.

13 Let his posterity be destroyed, and in the generation following, let their name be put out.

14 [n]Let the iniquity of his fathers be had in remembrance with the Lord: and let not the sin of his mother be done away.

15 But let them always be before the Lord, that he may cut off their memorial from the earth.

16 Because [o]he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the afflicted and poor man, and the sorrowful hearted to slay him.

17 As he loved cursing, [p]so shall it come unto him, and as he loved not blessing, so shall it be far from him.

18 As he clothed himself with cursing like a raiment, so shall it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

19 Let it be unto him as a garment to cover him, and for a girdle, wherewith he shall be always girded.

20 Let this be the reward of mine adversary [q]from the Lord, and of them that speak evil against my soul.

21 But thou, O Lord my God, deal with me according unto thy [r]Name: deliver me, (for thy mercy is good)

22 Because I am poor and needy, and mine heart is wounded within me.

23 I depart like the shadow that declineth, and am shaken off as the [s]grasshopper.

24 My knees are weak through fasting, and my flesh [t]hath lost all fatness.

25 I became also a rebuke unto them: they that looked upon me, shaked their heads.

26 Help me, O Lord my God: [u]save me according to thy mercy.

27 And they shall know that this is thine hand, and that thou, Lord, hast done it.

28 Though [v]they curse, yet thou wilt bless: they shall arise and be confounded, but thy servant shall rejoice.

29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their confusion as with a cloak.

30 I will give thanks unto the Lord greatly with my [w]mouth, and praise him among the multitude.

31 For he will stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from them that would [x]condemn his soul.

110 1 David prophesieth of the power and everlasting kingdom given to Christ,  4 and of his Priesthood, which should put an end to the Priesthood of Levi.

A Psalm of David.

The [y]Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

The Lord shall send the rod of thy power out of [z]Zion: be thou ruler in the midst of thine enemies.

Thy people shall come willingly at the time of assembling [aa]thine army in holy beauty: the youth of thy womb shall be as the morning dew.

The Lord sware, and will not repent, Thou art a Priest forever, after the order of [ab]Melchizedek.

The Lord that is at thy right hand, shall wound kings in the day of his wrath.

He shall be judge among the heathen: he shall fill all with dead bodies, and smite the [ac]head over great countries.

He shall [ad]drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up his head.

111 1 He giveth thanks to the Lord for his merciful works toward his Church, 10 and declareth wherein true wisdom and right knowledge consisteth.

Praise ye the Lord.

I will [ae]praise the Lord with my whole heart in the assembly and the congregation of the just.

The works of the Lord are [af]great, and ought to be sought out of all them that love them.

His work is beautiful and glorious, and his righteousness endureth forever.

He hath made his wonderful works to be had in remembrance: the Lord is merciful and full of compassion.

He hath given [ag]a [ah]portion unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.

He hath showed to his people the power of his works, in giving unto them the heritage of the heathen.

The [ai]works of his hands are truth and judgment: all his statutes are true.

They are established forever and ever, and are done in truth and equity.

He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant forever: holy and fearful is his Name.

10 [aj]The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord: all they that observe [ak]them, have good understanding: his praise endureth forever.

112 1 He praiseth the felicity of them that fear God, 10 and condemneth the cursed state of the contemners of God.

Praise ye the Lord.

Blessed is the man that [al]feareth the Lord, and delighteth greatly in his commandments.

His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the righteous shall be blessed.

[am]Riches and treasures shall be in his house, and his righteousness endureth forever.

Unto the [an]righteous ariseth light in darkness: he is merciful and full of compassion and righteous.

A good man is merciful, and [ao]lendeth, and will measure his affairs by judgment.

Surely he shall never be moved: but the righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance.

He will not be afraid of evil tidings: for his heart is fixed, and believeth in the Lord.

His heart is established: therefore he will not fear, until he see his desire upon his enemies.

He hath [ap]distributed and given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth forever: his [aq]horn shall be exalted with glory.

10 The wicked shall see it, and be angry: he shall gnash with his teeth, and [ar]consume away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

113 1 An exhortation to praise the Lord for his providence 7 in that that contrary to the course of nature he worketh in his Church.

Praise ye the Lord.

Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, [as]praise the Name of the Lord.

Blessed be the Name of the Lord from henceforth and forever.

The Lord’s Name is praised from the rising of the sun, unto the going down of the same.

The Lord is high above all [at]nations, and his glory above the heavens.

Who is like unto the Lord our God, that hath his dwelling on high.

Who abaseth himself to behold things in the heavens and in the earth!

He raiseth the needy out of the dust, and lifteth up the [au]poor out of the dung,

That he may set him with the princes, even with the princes of his people.

He maketh the barren woman to dwell with a family, and a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.

114 1 How the Israelites were delivered forth of Egypt, and of the wonderful miracles that God wrought at that time. Which put us in remembrance of God’s great mercy toward his Church, who when the course of nature faileth, preserveth his miraculously.

When (B)Israel went out of Egypt, and the house of Jacob from the [av]barbarous people,

Judah was his [aw]sanctification, and Israel his dominion.

The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was turned back.

The [ax]mountains leaped like rams, and the hills as lambs!

What ailed thee, O sea, that thou fleddest? O Jordan, why wast thou turned back?

Ye mountains why leaped ye like rams, and ye hills as lambs?

The [ay]earth trembled at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

Which [az]turneth the rock into waterpools, and the flint into a fountain of water.
