Beginning
96 1 An exhortation both to the Jews and Gentiles to praise God for his mercy. And this specially ought to be referred to the kingdom of Christ.
1 Sing [a]unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord all the earth.
2 Sing unto the Lord, and praise his Name: declare his salvation from day to day.
3 Declare his glory among all nations, and his wonders among all people.
4 For the Lord is [b]great and much to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the people are [c]idols: but the Lord [d]made the heavens.
6 [e]Strength and glory are before him: power and beauty are in his Sanctuary.
7 Give unto the Lord, ye families of the people: give unto the Lord glory and [f]power.
8 Give unto the Lord the glory of his Name: bring [g]an offering, and enter into his courts.
9 Worship the Lord in the glorious Sanctuary: tremble before him all the earth.
10 Say among the [h]Nations, The Lord reigneth: Surely the world shall be stable, and not move, and he shall judge the people [i]in righteousness.
11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad: let the sea roar, and all that therein is.
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it: let all the [j]trees of the wood then rejoice,
13 Before the Lord: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he will judge the world with righteousness, and the people in his truth.
97 1 The Prophet exhorteth all to rejoice for the coming of the kingdom of Christ, 7 dreadful to the rebels and idolaters, 8 and joyful to the just, whom he exhorteth to innocency, 12 to rejoicing and thanksgiving.
1 The [k]Lord reigneth: let the earth rejoice: let the [l]multitude of the Isles be glad.
2 [m]Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the foundation of his throne.
3 There shall go a fire before him, and burn up his enemies round about.
4 His lightnings gave light unto the world: the earth saw it and was [n]afraid.
5 The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.
7 [o]Confounded be all they that serve graven images, and that glory in idols: worship him [p]all ye gods.
8 Zion heard of it, and was glad: and the [q]daughters of Judah rejoiced, because of thy judgments, O Lord.
9 For thou, Lord, art most High above all the earth: thou art much exalted above all gods.
10 Ye that [r]love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his Saints: he will deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
11 [s]Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice ye righteous in the Lord, and give thanks for his holy [t]remembrance.
98 1 An earnest exhortation to all creatures to praise the Lord for his power, mercy and fidelity in his promise by Christ, 10 by whom he hath communicated his salvation to all nations.
A Psalm.
1 Sing [u]unto the Lord a new song: for he hath done marvelous things: (A)his right hand, and his holy [v]arm have gotten him the victory.
2 The Lord declared his [w]salvation: his righteousness hath he revealed in the sight of the nations.
3 He hath [x]remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 All the earth, sing ye loud unto the Lord: cry out and rejoice, and sing praises.
5 Sing praise to the Lord upon the harp, even upon the harp with a singing voice.
6 With [y]shalms and sound of trumpets sing loud before the Lord the king.
7 Let the sea roar, and all that therein is, the world, and they that dwell therein.
8 Let the floods clap their hands, and let the mountains rejoice together,
9 Before the Lord: for he is come to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world: and the people with equity.
99 1 He commendeth the power, equity, and excellency of the kingdom of God by Christ over the Jews and Gentiles, 5 And provoketh them to magnify the same, and to serve the Lord, 6 following the example of the ancient fathers, Moses, Aaron, Samuel, who calling upon God, were heard in their prayers.
1 The Lord reigneth, let the [z]people tremble: he sitteth between the (B)Cherubims, let the earth be moved.
2 The Lord is great in Zion, and he is high above all the people.
3 They shall [aa]praise thy great and fearful Name (for it is holy.)
4 And the King’s power, that loveth judgment: for thou hast prepared equity: thou hast executed judgment and justice in Jacob.
5 Exalt the Lord our God, and fall down before his [ab]footstool: for he is holy.
6 Moses and Aaron were among his Priests, [ac]and Samuel among such as call upon his Name: these called upon the Lord, and he heard them.
7 He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the Law that he gave them.
8 Thou heardest them, O Lord our God: thou wast a favorable God unto them, though thou didst take vengeance for [ad]their inventions.
9 Exalt the Lord our God and fall down before his holy Mountain: for the Lord our God is holy.
100 1 He exhorteth all to serve the Lord, 3 who hath chosen us, and preserved us, 4 and to enter into his assemblies to praise his Name.
A Psalm of praise.
1 Sing [ae]ye loud unto the Lord, all the earth.
2 Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyfulness.
3 Know ye that even the Lord is God; he hath [af]made us, and not we ourselves: we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 [ag]Enter into his gates with praise, and into his courts with rejoicing: praise him and bless his Name.
5 For the Lord is good: his mercy is [ah]everlasting, and his truth is from generation to generation.
101 1 David describeth what government he will observe in his house and kingdom. 5 He will punish and correct, by rooting forth the wicked, 6 and cherishing the godly persons.
A Psalm of David.
1 I will [ai]sing mercy and judgment: unto thee, O Lord, will I sing.
2 I will do wisely in the perfect way, [aj]till thou comest to me, I will walk in the uprightness of mine heart in the midst of my house.
3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate [ak]the work of them that fall away: it shall not cleave unto me.
4 A froward heart shall depart from me; I will know none evil.
5 Him that privily [al]slandereth his neighbor, will I destroy: him that hath a proud look and high heart, I cannot suffer.
6 Mine eyes shall be unto the [am]faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.
7 There shall no deceitful person dwell within my house: he that telleth lies, shall not remain in my sight.
8 [an]Betimes will I destroy all the wicked of the land that I may cut off all the workers of iniquity from the City of the Lord.
102 1 It seemeth that this prayer was appointeth to the faithful to pray in the captivity of Babylon. 16 A consolation for the building of the Church: 18 whereof followeth the praise of God to be published unto all posterity. 22 The conversion of the Gentiles, 28 and the stability of the Church.
A prayer [ao]of the afflicted, when he shall be in distress, and pour forth his meditation before the Lord.
1 O Lord hear my prayer, and let my [ap]cry come unto thee.
2 Hide not thy face from me in the time of my trouble: incline thine ears unto me, when I call, make haste to hear me.
3 For my days are [aq]consumed like smoke, and my bones are burnt like an hearth.
4 Mine heart is smitten, and withered like grass, because I forgat [ar]to eat my bread.
5 For the voice of my groaning, my bones do cleave to my skin.
6 I am like a [as]pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the deserts.
7 I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.
8 Mine enemies revile me daily, and they that rage against me, have [at]sworn against me.
9 Surely I have [au]eaten ashes as bread, and mingled my drink with weeping,
10 Because of thine [av]indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast heaved me up, and cast me down.
11 My days are like a shadow that fadeth, and I am withered like grass.
12 But thou, O Lord, dost [aw]remain forever, and thy remembrance from generation to generation.
13 Thou wilt arise and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to have mercy thereon, for the [ax]appointed time is come.
14 For thy servants delight in the [ay]stones thereof, and have pity on the dust thereof.
15 Then the heathen shall fear the Name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory,
16 When the Lord shall build up Zion, and shall appear [az]in his glory,
17 And shall turn unto the prayer of the desolate, and not despise their prayer.
18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be [ba]created, shall praise the Lord.
19 For he hath looked down from the height of his Sanctuary: out of the heaven did the Lord behold the earth,
20 That he might hear the mourning of the prisoner, and deliver the [bb]children of death.
21 That they may declare the Name of the Lord in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem,
22 When the people shall be gathered [bc]together, and the kingdoms to serve the Lord.
23 He [bd]abated my strength in the way, and shortened my days.
24 And I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years endure from generation to generation.
25 Thou hast aforetime laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of thine hands.
26 [be]They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: even they all shall wax old as doth a garment: as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed.
27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
28 The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall stand [bf]fast in thy sight.
