Beginning
70 O, God, hasten to deliver me! Hasten to help me, O LORD!
2 Let those who seek my soul be confounded and put to shame. Let those who desire my hurt be turned backward and put to rebuke.
3 Let those who say, “Aha! Aha!” be turned back for a reward of their shame.
4 Let all those who seek You be joyful and glad in You; and let all who love Your salvation, say always, “God be praised!”
5 Now I am poor and needy. O, God, hasten to me. You are my Helper and my Deliverer: O LORD, do not delay.
71 In You, O LORD, I trust. Let me never be ashamed.
2 Rescue me and deliver me in Your righteousness. Incline Your ear to me and save me.
3 Be my Strong Rock, whereto I may always resort. You have given Commandment to save me; for You are my Rock, and my Fortress.
4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the evil and cruel man.
5 For You are my Hope, O LORD God; my Trust from my youth.
6 I have been upheld by You from the womb. You are He Who took me out of my mother’s core. My praise shall be of You always.
7 I have become, as it were, a monster to many; but You are my sure Trust.
8 Let my mouth be filled with Your praise, with Your Glory, every day.
9 Do not cast me off in the time of old age. Do not forsake me when my strength fails.
10 For my enemies speak of me; and those who lay in wait for my soul take their counsel together,
11 saying, “God has forsaken him. Pursue and take him, for there is no one to deliver him.”
12 Do not go far from me, O God. My God, hasten to help me!
13 Let those who are against my soul be confounded and consumed. Let those who seek my hurt be covered with reproach and confusion.
14 But I will wait continually and will praise You more and more.
15 My mouth shall daily rehearse Your righteousness and Your salvation; for I do not know the number.
16 I will go forward in the strength of the LORD God. I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only.
17 O God, You have taught me from my youth even until now. I will tell of Your wondrous works;
18 Indeed, even to my old age and gray head, O God, do not forsake me until I have declared Your arm to this generation, and Your power to all those who shall come.
19 And Your righteousness, O God, I will exalt on High; for You have done great things. O God, who is like You!
20 You have shown me great troubles and adversities, but You will return and revive me; and will come again and take me up from the depth of the Earth.
21 You will increase my honor; and return and comfort me.
22 Therefore, I will praise You for Your faithfulness, O God, upon instrument and viol. To You I will sing upon the harp, O Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will rejoice when I sing to You; and my soul, which You have delivered.
24 Also, my tongue shall daily talk of Your righteousness; for those who seek my hurt are confounded and brought to shame. A Psalm of Solomon
72 Give Your judgments to the King, O God, and Your righteousness to the King’s Son.
2 He shall judge Your people in righteousness, and Your poor with equity.
3 The mountains and the hills shall bring peace to the people by justice.
4 He shall judge the poor of the people. He shall save the children of the needy and shall subdue the oppressor.
5 They shall fear You as long as the Sun and Moon endure, from generation to generation.
6 He shall come down like the rain upon the mown grass, as the showers that water the Earth.
7 In His days shall the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace shall be so long as the Moon endures.
8 Also, His dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the land.
9 Those who dwell in the wilderness shall kneel before Him; and His enemies shall lick the dust.
10 The kings of Tarshish, and of the isles, shall bring presents. The kings of Sheba, and Seba, shall bring gifts.
11 Indeed, all kings shall worship Him. All nations shall serve Him.
12 For He shall deliver the poor when He cries, the needy also, and he who has no helper.
13 He shall be merciful to the poor and needy and shall preserve the souls of the poor.
14 He shall redeem their souls from deceit and violence, and their blood shall be dear in His sight.
15 Indeed, He shall live; and to Him shall they give of the gold of Sheba. Also, they shall pray for Him continually and daily bless Him.
16 A handful of grain shall be sown in the Earth, in the top of the mountains. The fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon; and the children out of the city shall flourish like the grass of the Earth.
17 His name shall be forever. His name shall endure as long as the Sun. All nations shall bless Him and be blessed in Him.
18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things.
19 And blessed be His glorious Name forever. And let all the Earth be filled with His Glory. So be it, even so be it.
20 Here ends the prayers of David, the son of Jesse. A Psalm committed to Asaph
73 Truly, God is good to Israel, to the pure in heart!
2 As for me, my feet were almost gone. My steps had very nearly slipped.
3 For I envied the boastful when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no pains in their death; but they are lusty and strong.
5 They are not in trouble as other men, nor are they plagued like other men.
6 Therefore, pride is as a necklace to them, and cruelty covers them as a garment.
7 Their eyes bulge with fatness. They have more than heart can wish.
8 They mock and wickedly speak of oppression. They talk presumptuously.
9 They set their mouth against Heaven, and their tongue walks through the Earth.
10 Therefore, his people return here; for waters of abundance are drained by them,
11 and they say, “How does God know it?” or “Is there knowledge in the Most High?”
12 Lo, these are the wicked; yet they always prosper and increase in riches.
13 Certainly, I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence.
14 For I have been punished daily and chastened every morning.
15 If I say, “I will judge like this,” behold, I have trespassed the generation of Your children.
16 When I tried to understand this, it was too painful for me,
17 Then I went into the Sanctuary of God, and I understood their end.
18 Surely, You have set them in slippery places, and cast them down into desolation.
19 How suddenly they are destroyed, ended and horribly consumed,
20 As a dream when one awakes, O LORD, shall You make their image despised when You raise us up.
21 Certainly, my heart was grieved; and I was pricked in my core.
22 So foolish was I and ignorant! I was a beast before You!
23 Yet, I was always with You. You have held my right hand.
24 You will guide me by Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
25 Whom do I have in Heaven but You? And, I have desired nothing on the Earth besides You.
26 My flesh fails and my heart also. God is the strength of my heart and my portion, forever.
27 For lo, those who withdraw themselves from You shall perish. You destroy all those who are unfaithful to You.
28 As for me, it is good for me to draw near to God. I have put my trust in the LORD God, so that I may declare all Your works. A Psalm to give instruction, committed to Asaph
